Re: Satellite L40 - what is faster - AHCI or compatible?

Who is the best drive HARD in AHCI or IDE with Intel Matrix Console manager?

Hello!

What laptop you have exactly?

However, I think with native IDE you mean compatibility mode?
AHCI mode is faster than the compatible mode, but so you need the Intel Storage Manager.

I hope I could help you.

Good bye

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L40, model number PSL4CL - 001 with 80 GB HDD (SATA) 00C. I need to buy a new bigger hard drive, but I don't know the maximum size that I can use my laptop?

Can I get a new one with 500 GB or I shouldn't buy one more 250 or 320 GB?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can buy each HARD drive you want. Your laptop is equipped with a SATA interface for HARD disk and there is no limit of capacity as on the old IDE interface. So, a 500 GB model should work correctly on your laptop.

If you buy a new one make sure that it s a portable 2.5 HARD drive with SATA interface. All that s! :)

    I hope I could help a bit.

  • Satellite 320CDT: what slim burner could be compatible?

    Hello!

I use a laptop Toshiba Satellite 320CDT. It is not a new machine, a few years ago, but this is not the point. I only use it to run my favorite Delphi environment while I'm away from my desktop pc (320CDT offers me more than 3 hours of battery life).

Lately, I disassembled my laptop because I traded the 'mouse' rubber buttons ('old' was almost nothing). I discovered that CD mounted in this notebook is "slim" (12,7 mm) standard drive and its connector is also standard. Now my question is: is this laptop a capable cd writer?
I mean if I buy standard burner slim and mount it will work?

This laptop comes with two standard IDE/ESDI controllers and slim drives are also standardized.
I should expect some problems, for example. problems with the firmware?

  • Re: What is Satellite L40-15B has supported audio CD?

    Hello.

I use linux on my Toshiba Satellite L40-15 b and there is no sound from an audio CD.
I spoke with the ALSA community and all the settings of the software seems to be ok. So I have here, I would like to question the material.

On this Toshiba - cdrom is connected to the sound card?
It plays audio CDs under Windows? He plays games that use audio cd, said Total Annihilation, under Windows? (unfortunately impossible to verify myself that Windows is long gone from my laptop)

Would be happy to get an answer, so that I can know for sure if this is a problem with the ALSA Linux drivers or with the hardware of the laptop.

    Andrei.

Of course, you can listen to the CD on this Satellite L40.
You can use it as a CD player.

But you need to start the Windows OS. Without running OS you will not be able to listen to the audio CD

  • What card Firewire works with Satellite L40-139?

I have Satellite L40-139 under Vista Home Premium.
The laptop doesn't have a Firewire interface. He has a 54mm Express card slot. I would like to add a Firewire interface, so I can import video from a camcorder. If I understand correctly, it should be possible to install an Express card (34mm or 54mm will fit) which will provide the Firewire inputs.

Although there are a lot of these cards on the market, there are also many stories of them does not not with Vista or some Toshiba laptops.

Can someone advise please a card that is known to work with the L-series and with Vista?

    Thank you in advance.

    This is right.
Satellite L40-139 supports ExpressCard location and so you can use an Express which has been equipped with a firewire interface card.

You should google a bit, there are a lot of offers on the internet

    For example something like this:

  • Vista and satellite L40

A year that I have Satellite L40 for this year only one problem.

Who has guessed to low machine Vista I have a configuration of equipment, I see that it is calculated on XP System I reorganize once a week in talk, all goes well with the iron. Probably to reorganize Win XP on mine?

Upon receipt of the update, I can't load system, only black screen. I am very satisfied with your product and support. We won't have the data that appear on your site.
Letters unanswered. A bad product with poor support.

    Hello

I read your ad three times and I still didn't understand what you mean. If you're ready to write discussion please a bit more of your reviews. To be honest I didn t understand what data on the Toshiba site, you mean. You wrote about the specification of the laptop?

A friend of mine has Satellite L40 too and it works well. The fact is that Toshiba offers several models of different laptops with different hardware specifications. When compare you them in the store the first thing you see is the price. So, if you compare L40 Satellite and Satellite A300, you will see the difference.
It is logical that a notebook of budget with basic configuration that your L40, do not have the same hardware as a laptop that costs more than 400 euros.
L40 with this basic hardware platform can be used with Vista, but you can not expect some fabulous performances. What you need is RAM upgrade and configuration of the operating system right and you will see the difference.

Older L10 and L20 were also not laptops more faster with Windows XP Home edition. Two of them were also provided with the minimum of RAM but acceptable for Windows XP Home edition.

So if you want to discuss a little more on your laptop, please let us know what problems you have. Maybe we can help and see what you can do to make it better.

    Good luck!

  • Cannot start XP installation on Vista Home Premium preinstalled Satellite L40-139

    Here's the problem:

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L40-139 in Austria and comes preinstalled Vista. OK, Vista is in German, and I don't know German. But I made a choice to learn German and to start using a Vista. After a month Vista drives me crazy (no language, just for Vista) and I want to just install XP. I didn't need something more.
I spent more then five days trying to archive this, but without success and I am disappointed, much.

I put aside all types of teaching and I did a lot of things, but none of them helped me.
So the problem is like this:
I made the partition for XP, so I have two partitions as: Vista (C), (D) XP and Datas (G) and my CD/DVD (E :).
I activated just boot from the CD/DVD, but when I insert the CD and start the installation of Vista it tells me something like this:
Press any key to boot from CD...
When I do that, I get a message, which is very fast where it says something like that, (I'm not quiet sure what it says because it's fast):
    Checking your configuration...
After that, nothing happens, don't know why, I just get black monitor and CD/DVD does not work anymore?

It's driving crazy me and I can't install XP.
It seems that does not recognize the CD/DVD, and I tried with several XP bootable CD/s and they work on my desk.

Can someone help, please, because I'm going crazy?

If you have installed XP on this notebook L40 Vista you need a BIOS update to the XP version. All that s

  • Performance issues with Vista on Satellite L40 - 14N

I just signed up to your forum, it's really nice, how it works.
I bought 3 months ago, a satellite L40-14N, with Vista Home Premium pre-installed, but I'm starting to get tired of the delays.
I also have a problem, always Walker I want to open some windows, such as control panel or my computer and all my icons on the desktop disappear after some time will be displayed again, but not the application open before (Panel configuration or my computer).

I wanted to ask all of you, what may be the problem, in fact I think to get rid of Vista and install XP, do you think it would be a good idea?
If so, what kind of xp (sp2, sp3, etc.)? And, what I would have in return when I install xp, as what drivers need me for my laptop works properly again?

Thank you very much... good day

    Hello

He knows that the Vista operating system is in need of more resources as a Microsoft OS at the beginning of s.
I have a Vista on the L30 and I get a really slow performance.
In addition many services and processes running in the background of the operating system. It also decreases performance.
But all background processes are needed if you want to use all the features of notebooks such as the FN keys or buttons to Toshiba for example.

However, I've installed XP on the L30 without any additional driver for the FN keys, control buttons etc and it was amazing to see how fast the laptop can be.

So generally it s not a bad idea to install XP on the L40.
But note; If you want to install XP on the L40 you must install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager first. Without this driver SATA XP does not recognize the HARD drive.

  • Satellite L40 - 16 d: update CPU & PC card question

    Hello

I have Satellite L40 - 16 d PSL48-E and I want to know who is the fastest processor I can put on?

In the upper right corner, I have a dummy card. What can I put on this decision?

    THX

Don t think you could improve the laptop with a faster processor due to overheating problems. A faster CPU produces more heat, and this leads to overheating.
But as I know the Dual-Core CPU T2310 1.46GHz was installed on this notebook.
Theoretically, an another Dual-Core CPU could be inserted but practically it of desirable and in most cases the wouldn t stable performance specifications.
Last but not least, you will lose the warranty!

    With regard to the issue of card slot;
Well, some Web sites said that this laptop runs the Express card. That is why it s an ExpressCard slot ;)

have shearched other threads and found answer but seems that doen't work. I have a USB flash drive. My flash is considered to be a boot and I can install windows on it for :).
Help pls to install Windows Xp (to see the HARD drive) and pls if can tell links to all the programs that I have to download and what to do the passing noobis :)

Installing a version commercial (street copy) of Windows XP on a Toshiba Vista laptop.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the laptop is a separate version of BIOS for XP and Vista, download and Flash the BIOS on the Vista BIOS XP.

If the installation of XP does not detect the SATA hard drive, simply turn compatibility SATA Mode in BIOS if this option is available.

If this option is not available, you must use the SATA drivers diskette during installation of XP. Follow these steps:

    (1) Download driver Windows XP SATA F6 on the site of Toshiba Support/downloads.
If an individual F6 driver is unavailable, download and uncompress the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver package must contain some files under the folder "F6flpy". For example: database ICH7M_32bit for an ICH7 chipset during installation of Windows XP 32-bit.

    (2) copy the files from the driver F6 (iastor.inf, etc.) on a blank diskette. The files must reside in the root directory of the floppy disk. For example, A:\iastor.inf, A:\iaahci.inf, etc...

    (3) use a Toshiba USB floppy drive with the Toshiba laptop. (some non - Toshiba USB Floppy Drives may not work correctly during the installation of XP)

    (4) (4) demarrer start from the Windows XP CD, start the installation and make sure that the disk is inserted in the floppy USB drive.

    (5) for the XP installation invites you to press F6 to install a storage driver, immediately press F6.

    (6) for installing XP you invites to select a SATA driver, select the appropriate driver and continue. For example: ICH7M Intel(r) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller, Intel(r) ICH8M 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller

    (7) keep the attached floppy drive and floppy disk inserted XP has not completed its installation. Do not partition or format the hard drive during the installation of XP. The diskette SATA drivers are copied and stored on the hard drive during the installation of XP.

  • Satellite L40-139 - supportΘes CPU?

    Hello!

Help with replacement of the processor.

Laptop Toshiba Satellite L40-139 model: PSL40E-02R02GRU

What he took in charge processors? What a power outlet? I'm on the site could not find the right information.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

Generally, the upgrade of the CPU is not so easy as on desktop PC.
There are many reasons why CPU upgrade would not be recommended.

    (1) the faster CPU creates more heat dissipation, which leads to a higher temperature and this may affect the functionality of the laptop
    (2) the BIOS has not been configured for another CPU and there may be a compatibility issue.
    (3) computer laptop disassembly is not easy very difficult for someone who has never taken apart a laptop.
    (4) you will not see performance boosts after upgrade CPU.

But if you want to know which processor is compatible so check what CPU is supported by chipset in Notepad
    The Chipset is INTEL 943GML.

    Welcome them
