  I suggest you take Thunderbird into offline mode and access your messages moved. Since you have already cancelled the account if it syncs with the server your messages may disappear. That's why you do this BEFORE you cancel your service with the provider.

  I run Windows Mail through Vista on a Dell desktop computer and a HP laptop. On the Dell that I had problems with dozens of Messages recovered files that appear. All are empty. I have them removed permanently but they always reappear. Once again, it is on the Dell only. I followed some instructions found on forums dating back to 2009.

  2 months when I opened my Windows Mail, download hundreds and hundreds of messages for years. I have deleted patientely hours. It happened yesterday again and now all my folders & its contents disappeared. Now, I want to stop my account and close Windows Mail completely and go with Windows Live Mail and Gmail. My provider ISP, AT & T, is also linked to this account and never worked with all my email accounts, so perhaps I need to turn off that also. I don't know how or if I should leave it and do not use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Simply go to tools | Accounts and delete the account. If it's an old address with AT & T you use is no longer, the connection to its Web site and delete the account, or call them and have remove them. Bruce Hagen

How "reactivate" my old account, "My Name", to restore all its parameters, hopefully including record of applications, etc. ? Thank you.
