Read-Only File System after update OSX

I've just updated my 10.11.4, iMac OSX and now my FCPX project on an external drive keeps getting a message "read-only file system!  Does anyone else have this problem?  I was wondering if I should reduce my OS to the previous version, where I had no problem to access my library...

Advice?

  • Backup error ReadyNas DUO - «read only file system»

    Hello community,

I hope you can help me with a problem I'm having with my ReadyNAS Duo (v1) running Raidiator 4.1.14. At night, it is running a backup job that copies a file from a computer on the local network to the NAS itself. What often happens is after a reboot for a while, things work sometimes days, sometimes weeks. But then I get e-mails warning that contains journal like entries:

CP: cannot create the file ' / backup/projecten/./CAM_strip/01_v0.1.JPG': read-only file system

Usually this warning is given for each file (which means thousands) so that emails are big enough. And obviously the backup has not been made. I tried to solve this problem and sought similar questions on this forum and on the web, but nothing helped. I can't identify what is the cause.

Maybe you could help me the grace to some of the run settings, I can tinker too. I guess it has something to do with the ownership and rights to access these files and folders.

    Thank you!

    Hello Miss,

Aside from trying StephenB and JennCs suggestions, if you create a test share, can you tell us if you will experience the same behavior in read-only?

    Forward to your response.

  • Cannot change attributes read-only files, by updating the drivers help Driver Whiz from HP.

    Original title: change file attributes

I'm updating some drivers help Driver Whiz from HP.  The new drivers download but will not be installed.  Apparently, I need to remove the read-only file attributes, but no matter what I do it continues to change the next time I have access to the file to read-only.  Any ideas?

    Hi keuller,

You can read the following article and check if it helps:

You cannot view or change the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326549

    Hope this information is useful.

  • How can I change the attributes read-only or system files?

How can I change the attributes read-only or system files?

To view or to remove the read-only or system attributes, use the Attrib command at a command prompt:

    1. click the Start button, type cmd in the search box and press ENTER.

    2. to view the syntax for the Attrib command, Type attrib------? at the command prompt.

WARNING: If you remove the read-only or a file system attribute, it may seem like a regular folder and some customizations may be lost. For example, Windows customizes the Fonts folder and provides a special folder view that allows you to hide variations, such as bold and italics. It also allows you to change the display settings of the file in a way that is specific to fonts. If you remove the read-only attributes and the Fonts folder system, these custom display settings not available. For folders that you have customized by using the tab, customize the folder properties dialog box, the folder icon and other other customizations may be lost when you remove the read-only attribute.

If a program cannot save files to a folder with read-only, such as My Documents, change the read-only to the system attribute by using the Attrib command at a command prompt.

To remove the read-only attribute and to set the system attribute, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s drive:------------.

For example, to remove the read-only attribute and set the attribute to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command: attrib - r + s c:\test

Be aware that some programs may not work correctly with folders for which the read-only attribute and the system attribute are granted. You can use the following command to remove these attributes:

    attrib - r-s c:\test

  • Photos appear as read only files

cannot remove the read-only my vista jointsdans.

I can't remove the read-only my files (at least in the photos).  It is provided with a solid box, not a check mark and I can't remove it.  I need to edit and print photos, and I don't know what to do.  The only software I have installed is a HP printer wireless on my home network.

    Hi HeatherSt,

-Have you noticed this change after you install HP printer software?
-Were you able to edit photos without any problems before?
Is there another account administrator user on your computer?

Note: It is possible that change a read-only file can cause a program that relies on the file to stop working properly, so be sure that it's okay to change a read-only file before you proceed.

Cannot change files read-only, but they can be copied, moved, renamed, or deleted. Therefore, try to Rename the file or perform one of these operations and check if that helps.

If you can't always change read-only, follow the steps in the link below:
  • Cannot modify READ ONLY file attributes using the administrator account

I tried the windows Explorer and a custom program called Directory Opus. I tried to create several administrator accounts, but not luck.

I can't work with this existing problem.

    I need a solution.

I have exactly the same problem.  Following the steps above did not work, folders/subfolders unchangeable rest.  I am the owner of the folder and subfolders.  I don't know yet how they became Read-Only to start.  Read-only on the individual files setting works correctly.  Changing the settings of file does not work.

    IMPORTANT EDIT:

According to a message from the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
You cannot view or change the read-only or system attributes
To summarize, Windows does not include system or read-only folders settings (he was aware of these properties on the FILES however).  Individual applications that you use cannot ignore the State of read-only on a folder and can give an error.  In my situation, an application was trying to create a new file in a folder that has been marked read-only and honored the RO parameter and refuses to try to create the new file.

To actually change these attributes, properties menu will not work.  The KB source:

    • If you click apply changes to this folder only , the read-only attribute is changed for all files in the folder. However, the read-only attribute is not changed for the folder, its subfolders or files in its subfolders. If you click apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files , the read-only attribute is changed for all files in the folder and all files in the subfolders. However, the read-only attribute is not changed for the folder or its subfolders.

To change these properties, the user must start a Terminal command line and execute the changes by hand, for example, this command:

    • attrib - r + s c:\test

.. What will remove the READ ONLY parameter and apply the SYSTEM setting in the folder.  Once more, change the properties of files (including files in subfolders) works as expected with the right click - Properties-> Security menu.

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

There is no such an indicator, read only files is visible by opening it, is not any icon seprate for read only files. There might be some third party tools that can help do that, however, microsoft does not recommend.

    Hope this information was useful.

  • I can't change the read only files on my NAS unit.

I have a promise SmartStore MS4300n Network Attached Storage system that I have used for more than two years. I can access it from my Windows Xp and my 64 bit Windows 7 computer. Yesterday, I tried to move some files from my Win 7 to the NAS and I find that I can't copy on it. I can move my Win 7 7 NAS files. When I look at the properties of the files on the NAS, they all are now READ ONLY. When I try to change it tells me I don't have permission. I am the only user and I am logged in as admin. Yet once it has started here yesterday.
If I access the NAS since my XP I can copy data to the NAS even if properties files are READ only.

The problem is clearly with WINDOWS 7, how to fix it, it work well before and I need to use this device to check my belongings.

    Thank you
    Dennis

OK, looks like I fixed it. I found that even though I have my computer set up to run all updates automatically I checked windows update and found five that had not been installed. After that I ran the update now can I copy files to my SIN again.

  • USB key - read only files

    Hello

After the update of some files on my USB stick and re - mount, everything has been spotted in read-only.

If I right click on properties and uncheck the read-only box, it goes through the motions but doesn't change anything.

I also tried to use attrib to the command prompt with no joy.

someone has any ideas who to make them again in read/write.

Short copy on my stick and reformat, I am at a loss what to try.

  • Read-only files

I work in a company as a junior web developer framework. Of the organization that I work a large site that is run by my team, but we also employees in the different divisions (KC) update their own sections of the site.

Since I started working here, we were faced with a problem of our files being changed to 'Read only' after their verification using Dreamweaver. Since we have cuts of KC also updated the site, they send me several times a week asking me to change the permissions of the file they would like to work. I looked everywhere for a solution to this but have had no luck. I hope that someone else has had this problem before or would be able to point me in the right direction.

  • Virtual XP MACHINE all read-only files

I installed Fusion 2.0.2 on OSX 10.5.6 and built a virtual machine with XP SP3.  All files are marked read-only as for the most part (not a full audit, but shaded box).  When I change to not be RO in the properties of the folder and propagate this change through the directory, change is not licensed. Immediately reopening the folder properties shows the same status.  This is true for all folders.  Applications of the virtual machine behave inccorectly without the ability to create/edit files.  There is only one account - administrator.  I don't see a reason XP for this Act.  How to prevent evolution to RO on files?

This has nothing to do with VMware Fusion and is strictly a matter of Microsoft Windows.

Look: you can not view or change the read-only or the system attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows Vista
