Readers compatible recovery/Bootable with Portege R200

Hello

I am looking for a for a R200 bootable recovery disk. After contacting Toshiba, told me that the only recovery disks they know of and support for the R200 at the moment are the readers of Toshiba official marks. I know that on some Toshiba models Targus readers are also supported but are not necessarily supported on the R200. What I want to know is if anyone knows of other external optical drives that can be used for the external optical drives toshiba recovery disc are extremely expensive.

Personally, I tried a samsung DVD-Rs (TS-552U) in an external enclosure 5.25 inches (appears as a USB mass storage device in Windows XP) and it takes to the extent where the options of recovery, but cannot go further (i.e. you choose what desired recovery option, it reboots the machine, and then asking you to wait (, and then gives a warning message that the CD/DVD drive is not found).

I also tried a Sharp CDRom PCMCIA (CE-CD01) it's 16-bit with Cardbus (I already used this cover my Portege R100 successfully) but it gave me the same problem as above.

I also followed the instructions here:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=5994&TSTART=15
However when I start first at one of my two CDRom above it detects the CDRom and starts on the recovery CD and gets the recovery of three options. After selecting one of the three options, it restarts the computer, and then asking you to wait. And then it displays a warning message that it cannot detect any CD/DVD drive. Therefore, this set of instructions does not work for me. I know it has nothing to do with my recovery disks because I had to take my computer to a service center in the reconstituted BONE, and they have been able to do successfully.

I also searched a document like this (http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5100S70004R01.htm) for the R200 nothing helps.

Note also that my computer is an Australian R200 (PPR20A - 01 K 003) is that it makes a difference?

It would be greatly appreciated if I could get your entry! Thank you!

Gene

Hello

As you have said about your only Toshiba drivers are supported to use the recovery procedure.
The Portege M200 supports the recovery through the BIOS (by pressing 'C') with the USB 2.0 card and PCMCIA (16-bit and Cardbus).

Readers and following (USB, PCMCIA) controllers have been tested successfully:

one) Toshiba, PA3352E-SCD2, CD-RW/DVD-Rom USB 2.0 drive
(b) Toshiba PA3402E-1DV2, Rev.501, USB 2.0 DVD Super Multi drive, SN: 5362870112
(c) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
with a PC Card (16 bit) card, cable II, PCMCIA, Rev.043.242, SN: 18496 043 3999 0343 01093
(d) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
with a CardBus cable II, MAP of BUS, Rev.136, SN: 16693 136 3999 0149 06122

Sorry I put t see any other possibility of recovering your unit. You need the reader compatible recovery.

Good bye

  • Portege R200 recovery CD recovery problem

I tried to recover with different portege R200 from the recovery disks. The two models are identical, and both models have the same problem. I boot with the recovery disk 1, I get the choice of 1, 2 and 3.

I choose number 1 to retrieve the machine (a recommended) hard disk, and then restarts gives me another set of choices. As soon as I make a choice and confirm it, I get an error message saying that my cd/dvd drive is not connected. The CD/DVD drive is a USB which I've tried two different brands with the same result. All I can think is that I have to do something wrong.

    Hello

I studied a bit in this forum and found this interesting thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=32612罤

There is a list of the compatible and tested external CD/DVD drives.

    one) Toshiba, PA3352E-SCD2, CD-RW/DVD-Rom USB 2.0 drive

Is that not all external drives are compatible and updated day and in my opinion, this could be the reason why your laptop starts properly since the external hard drive.

    Hello

The same situation here. I have Tecra M1 and I turn it on manually every time because the portable store the last known configuration. On the new laptops it is much simpler because there is new option when you use the FN + F5 key combination and you can quickly switch between the different views.

Please start Toshiba Mobile Extension tool and display services tab change and test it with internal/external image display different profile. I tested it with my laptop and it works perfectly.

  • Cannot connect Portege R200 with desktop PC on wireless network

    Hello

I'm happy with newly acquired Tosh Portege R200.
Successfully connected to the router and the internet, wifi.
Changed the name of r200 and define your work group name so that the other PC will be detected - be they - and Tosh arise also under my network places, it does.

So all hunky dory... until I tried to access the laptop on the desk, at which point WinXP threw a password request.
And here's my question: since no password have been defined on the Portege (XP clean re-install) for all users or administrators what IS THE PASSWORD?

Yours in hope and waiting oh great sage over there...

    Hello

I have no idea what password you need, but usually, you have to set the right permission on the folder that you want to share on the network.
I connected my two computers (both with Win XP) with a crossover network cable.
Then I put the same name of working group on both computers and manually assigned IP address; IE: 192.168.50.1 and 192.168.50.2
Then, I selected the folder-> properties-> sharing tab.
Here you can set the permissions.

Using the WiFi network, you must set the option for * Ad-hoc network.
This allows you to use a connection from computer to computer.

  • Portege R200 - PXE - E61: media test failure - insert system disk

My Portege R200 PPR21E-00K00QEN computer means the usual stuff of toshiba: IE

PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable of
PXE - MOF outgoing PXE ROM

    Insert system disk in drive

Now my model isn't a hard drive and I bought second hand, so I have no recovery disks.
I checked the HARD drive and its seems connected properly.

Would I need to buy an external drive and try a system disk or is there anything else I could try.

    Any suggestions or advice?

PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable message appears because the laptop has attempted to boot from LAN.
    Why?
Because it could not start the HARD drive, or another source like CD/DVD drive.
Usually this happens because of faulty HARD drive.

    So how to fix?

I think first of all you will need to replace the HARD drive.

Since the Portégé R200 doesn't support CD/DVD drive, you must install the system using bootable flash USB stick memory or you would need to buy an external CD-ROM USB drive that would be compatible with protégé R200

  • Start - option from menu on Portege R200

The Toshiba Portege R200 has a boot menu option? I tried F12 and C and nothing happens. The only way I've found is to change the boot priority in the BIOS.

    Thank you, Rob.

    Hello Rob

If you use CD or bootable DVD (supplied recovery media), you can use the C button and on this path, you must be available to boot from the CD/DVD (Toshiba drives).

I have no experience with this model of Portege, but if you can see small symbols at the beginning upward under close to the HOME screen left or right-arrow and you will be able to choose which drive you want to start.

  • Portege R200 - video corruption in XP SP2

    Hello

I have a 'master' XP SP2 build that I adapt to the Toshiba Portege R200 laptop. It's the first Tosh, I have worked with (normally HP). I installed all the Tosh and tools software and downloaded/installed the latest drivers on the tosh site.

Intermittently, I get the video corruption on the desktop in XP. Some parts of the screen or the menus and buttons display black and white trash.

Has anyone other saw this and have any ideas how to fix? Is there an older video driver, that I can try?

    Thank you.

  • Portege R200 - how to replace the HARD drive

Fundamental questions about the Toshiba Portege R200 (purchased model birthday Thailand August 2005) are:
    (1) Please provide instructions to remove the hard drive (non-functional) (illustrations if possible)
    (2) model has enough space inside for hard drive 2.5 inch? (Impossible to locate 1.8 inches and below, to get the results of [expensive] calls to Toshiba - of interest only)

    Background:
    (1) while 3 years warranty in force I trecked (expensive) of Malaysia in Bangok (where to buy) at the headquarters of Toshiba (if you know Bangkok taxi drivers, you'll know what a test or going around in circles and the nonsense in the fire that was)... Toshiba agreed HD vibrating but reported would take 3 to 10 weeks to get the HD replacement (!?)
    (2) I was a few weeks later to the r - u (to tie)... They told me they couldn't help; I "should contact my provider...". This is an Asian model, in Europe, we cannot... etc etc.
    (3) a week later the HD has no
    (4) I contacted Toshiba but they told me the warranty expired 7 days before...
    (5) since this time I phoned and was put on hold for Toshiba in the region of London (several times), Singapore (3 times), Thailand (well, if you know how it goes, say-no more, shots of elbow-boost)...

I got nowhere. But were invited by the media to bring it to the headquarters of Thai (yet)... It's all right, I'll book a flight and hotel etc now, shouldn't cost all that much more than the computer cost me initially...

Oh, another thing, not very important: to help out me, I bought a lighter machine at Toys R us... 300 quid... for the love of antiquity I always want to get the old dog to this shiny Silver Anniversary edition slim R200 works again...
I have a 2.5 "HD available (recond and costs all 9 quid in Brummagem) but before I destroy the old R200 dog by ineptitude... (and lost to carefree annoyance no assistance of Toshiba)... and/or on how to remove HD, please?

    Hello

I have seen words about your question.
AFAIK the R200 was equipped with the utility of the HARD disk protection. It is a feature to reduce the risk of damage to the HARD disk.
Using the acceleration sensor built into the computer drive HARD protection detect vibrations, shocks and sings in the computer and automatically moves the HDD Head somewhere course, in order to reduce the risk of damage.
But this function does not ensure that the HARD drive will not damage! It reduces the risk of damage!

However, the HARD drive can be removed very easily.
At the bottom of the unit, you will find the HARD drive Bay. It s close to the battery (on the left).
You need to remove two screws to get access to the HARD disk 1.8.

PS: You can use disks hard only 1.8. The 2.5 hard drives are not compatible.
    I discovered that you can use a TOSHIBA 60GB 4,200 rpm 1.8 HDD HDD1544BZK01

  • Portege R200 - re - install Windows XP

We just took delivery of a Toshiba Portege R200 as an assessment
Especially the small size Toshiba laptops. We bought from another manufacturer
laptops in the past, but these come (strangely) with PCMCIA slots so that we cannot use
    Vodafone 3 G/GPRS cards.

Anyway, this isn't the point. As seems to be the case with modern
manufacturers, the laptop is loaded to the top with all kinds of garbage (sorry useful)
utilities) which we certainly do not want! So we want to re - install plain
Windows XP Pro vanilla and from there - we have our own build
    Configuration.

Apart from the laptop doesn't come only not with a CD/DVD drive.
It came only with a "recovery CD". What is this recovery
Contain CDs? What is a Windows XP Pro installation CD or an image of the laptop with
all the useful stuff already installed. So late, how should we do
get a CD-ROM of relocation? I guess it's an OEM Windows XP Pro
    license there.

    Thank you, Rob.

[Edited by: admin on 1st June 06 21:31]

    Hi Rob

Recovery image contains the operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba designed tools and utilities (;)) very useful utilities and some applications such as WinDVD or even antivir program.) If you use recovery media that you will have factory settings as after the first start.

In my opinion, you should preinstall unit with media recovery because on this path, all hardware components will be perfect set up. After that, you can remove all the stuff that you n t want.

Otherwise, you can install your own operating system by using the Microsoft full version CD, and then install all the drivers only. You have them on CD tools & utilities, or you can download them from the download page of Toshiba. All that s!

If you have any other questions, please write again.

  • Portege R200 Win2k drivers?

Our company OS is Win2k SP4 so this installed on Portege R200 PPR21E but has 2 unknown devices, showing in DM in Intel 82801FBM LPC I / f suite and system compatible ACPI Microsoft and also 'Ethernet controller' even if the Yukon LAN device is installed and running so I guess it must be the Wlan a, although Ive tried what it points to all the drivers wlan for this model to no joy. Ive tried all the drivers from the Tosh site but some installation for XP usually not w2k. Ive tried the Intel Chipset utility to no joy. Anyone got any ideas? It is possible that this model is not compatible W2K?

    Hello

The Portégé R200 is designed for Windows XP, so it is fair to assume that some problems may occur when you run W2K. However, if you are looking for drivers for version PPR20 of the R200 downloads Web site, you will find the drivers and utilities for W2K. It might be interesting to try some of these forums that you have problems with the devices.

Also, did you follow the order of installation of drivers properly? Some weird issues can occur if this is not the case. Yet once, order for W2K is listed when you are looking for the version of PPR20 (classified "Instructions of Installation").

  • PCMCIA question on portege R200

PPR20A Portege R200 - recently went to Toshiba service for problem with network LAN card, came back LAN network card works fine now (lost packets previously). Running XP Professional SP2.

Now have a problem with installing an Aircard card in the PCMCIA slot - before taken in charge worked well, but since then have not been able to install properly. Have consulted widely with the seller, the drivers updated and the device firmware (camera works very well in other laptops). Restored the operating system and recovery applications.

The Manager of active devices and shows that the pcmcia adapter is generic type (for example, Microsoft). Uninstalled the generic driver, downloaded and installed the drivers from toshiba but install is not to recognize the new drivers and Hardware Wizard adds a driver credits back.

    What Miss me?

Have updated the BIOS to V1.6, verified status all drivers and all are up-to-date.

    It does not compute...

    Someone has an idea?

    Hey Buddy,

If you have already done everything to make this thing work, then you should contact the service center where you sent your machine before and tell them that your pcmcia/cardbus is working properly.
    But before that, try this:
Download linux live-cd like knoppix, boot your computer with the cd and check if the same problem under linux. I mean if the card is not properly recognized. Usually, the card must be recognized and you should be able to use your wireless card (I guess Aircard means wireless card)

If the card works then backup all your data on your hard drive and recover you your machine. After recovery, everything should work again.

  • Question about the feature keys FN on Portege R200

Hello! My laptop is a Portege R200

I cleaned up my HARD drive and installing WXP Pro

I downloaded all the drivers for the Toshiba site R200

Now the problem is that there are two kinds a change of the device driver display

I installed the first called TDspBtn and now I am able to get the LCD, LCD + CRT or CRT by pressing Fn + F5. I do not like this feature because theres no icon displayed as brightness oder speaker power.

The other is TFnF5. If I click on it, nothing happens and the function FN + F5 is still the TDspBtn.

    ------------------------

My next prob is the FN + F8 combination. I installed the driver from wirlesshotkey and nothing happens if I press FN + F8
Normally using this utility you can switch of Bluetooth for wireless connection by pressing Fn + F8. If Bluetooth is not available, it will turn on and outside wireless lan.

    Please help me!

    Greetings from the Germany

    Hello

It is not easy to give you the right answer because this FN feature does not depend on a tool only. The fact is that several separate components must be installed correctly.
On the Toshiba download page, I saw that there are two different models of the Portege R200. I don't know which you have, but for each of them you will find the document Instructions facilities with the exact order of installations.

So what you need to do is to install all the drivers, tools and utilities following this order of installations.
If all the components must be installed correctly. After doing this, all these processes are running in the background and you can use all the functions FN.

The same situation is for the FN + F8.
