Portege R200 - re - install Windows XP

We just took delivery of a Toshiba Portege R200 as an assessment
Especially the small size Toshiba laptops. We bought from another manufacturer
laptops in the past, but these come (strangely) with PCMCIA slots so that we cannot use
Vodafone 3 G/GPRS cards.

Anyway, this isn't the point. As seems to be the case with modern
manufacturers, the laptop is loaded to the top with all kinds of garbage (sorry useful)
utilities) which we certainly do not want! So we want to re - install plain
Windows XP Pro vanilla and from there - we have our own build
Configuration.

Apart from the laptop doesn't come only not with a CD/DVD drive.
It came only with a "recovery CD". What is this recovery
Contain CDs? What is a Windows XP Pro installation CD or an image of the laptop with
all the useful stuff already installed. So late, how should we do
get a CD-ROM of relocation? I guess it's an OEM Windows XP Pro
license there.

Thank you, Rob.

Hi Rob

Recovery image contains the operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba designed tools and utilities (;)) very useful utilities and some applications such as WinDVD or even antivir program.) If you use recovery media that you will have factory settings as after the first start.

In my opinion, you should preinstall unit with media recovery because on this path, all hardware components will be perfect set up. After that, you can remove all the stuff that you n t want.

Otherwise, you can install your own operating system by using the Microsoft full version CD, and then install all the drivers only. You have them on CD tools & utilities, or you can download them from the download page of Toshiba. All that s!

If you have any other questions, please write again.

Good bye

  • Portege M400 - cannot install Windows XP on the new HARD drive

    Hello here is my problem,

I bought an older Portegre M400 E, without a HARD drive. So I buy a new Samsung 400 GB. I looked in the Bios (ACPI BIOS Version 3.40) and it is ok. He shows me the HARD drive with built in Assign LD - 0 status ONLINE, 400 GB size so it seems to be nice. Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0
So, I want to boot from the Windows XP CD, not recovering my own.

Windows open to the top and after a short period, the installation ends with the message that it is not any HARD drive. This I try sometimes :-( Hope someone can help me.
Do not forget that I didn't have any HARD disk with the dates of the laptop.

    > Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0

I don't know much about your model, but I think that something wrong with the raid in the Bios settings. What other options are available in the Bios for the State of the hard drive? I found the RAID driver on the Toshiba driver page. It is possible, that you can integrate in with a program called nlite Windows installation disc or install Windows as in compatibility mode, and install the Raid driver. then

    Hello friends :)

I have a problem with the installation of Windows 2000 on Portege 3440.
I was running Windows 2000 with the FDD USBB (with driver for PCMCIA of CD-ROM) installation and CD-ROM PCMCIA. "Everything was ok at the moment when I came for winnt ' q.

When installing without partition on the HARD drive was appeared on blue background information: "could not find a place for a swap file. What should I do to install this system? (Same users do not have these releases)

    Thanks for help
    Adrian

    Hello

1 don't forget to prepare your hard disk with fdisk (a bootable partition) and format it with the Fat32 file system

    2. start by a MSDos saved in your floppy drive-drive with drivers for your PCMCIA CDrom drive (Freecom)

    3. copy the entire i386 to the W2K installation CD directory your HD, be sure to have loaded smartdrive, otherwise it will take ages!

4 start again with the saved, go to the i386 directory and start Windows NT

You can look here for more information about freecom pilots and the bootdisks: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
On your 3440 it should be easier than with the R100 because of normal 2.5 "HD 6 GB, but the problem is basically the same

  • Portege M400: Cannot install windows XP

    Hello

My friend gave me his Toshiba Portege M400 (PPM40E) at the table of settings windows XP (HHD is already formatted copmletely).

Before that I've never worked with SATA controller

So, when installing RAID drivers are required for any HDD lying.
I bought the USB floopy and downloaded some drivers from Intel.

Having suffered a bit, I found requireded (as I thought), hard disk drivers detected (even the license agreement I signed) but that pilots still needed to proceed with the installation.

IF someone faced this problem can you send me on my e-mail ([email protected]) required drivers or give me an exact link?
    Looking forward to your advice.

    Thank you for understanding,
    Best regards from Russia

    Hello

Maybe a stupid question but why you do not use supplied recovery media for the installation of the OS? As much as I know Portege M400 (PPM40E) comes with Windows XP edition PC of Table (teacher WXP).

Anyway, check it please this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316401/en-us
Maybe it will help you understand the problem.

  • Portege 2000, cannot install windows, ide errors

    Any help much appreciated...

former owner deleted the 20 GB hard drive. Have the Toshiba pcmcia reader. Flashed the latest bios. It will boot xp or 2000 cd without problem, however the two OSs stop initially with bsod (2000 gives inacessible_boot peripheral).

Tried with ME, but the cdrom driver is not the right one (does not load the cdrom drive). In a situation like this, normally, I remove the drive and install (with hard drive adapter) on a pc to format and copy the OS files and then reinstall the drive and start the installation from the hard drive but it has a 1.8 drive "and I have no adapter.

    Help!

    Mick

    Hey Tyson,

Sorry, but I'm a little confused about your explanation. If I understand you right, you bought used protégé 200 with Toshiba external CD-ROM device (PCMCIA) and you try to reinstall?

    I understand you correctly?

As much as I know in original Toshiba Recovery CD there is driver for external "TOSHIBA CD-ROM" (PCMCIA/CARDBUS) and it will be loaded at the beginning of the recovery procedure. If it works with no Toshiba devices is unknown to me. If you want to reinstall the OS without the original CD from Toshiba, you must start the laptop using the startup disk with the right driver for external device.

As you said that the best solution is to start the installation of the HARD disk. You need a Google around and I'm sure you can find one for you. Please visit this site
http://www.Addonics.com/products/Saturn/aesed.ASP. He is described as the optional kit 2.5 "converter can be used for the 2.5" or 1.8 "IDE HDD.

  • Portege 3490CT - how to install Windows XP?

I have a portege 3490CT and I want to install Windows xp, but the laptop cannot boot from my external USB cdrom drive. I tried to install Windows on the hard disk on another computer (it works), but if I put the disk in the laptop it does not start.

So, how can I install windows?

    Please write back.
    Thank you.

    Hi michaelnachname,

Here you can already find a thread on installation of Windows XP Portege 3490CT:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-euro...D=16411䀛

As you can read, you must format the HARD drive and copy the folder the XP disc on HARD drive i386. Then, you can start Setup from the HARD drive without a CD player. :)

  • Portege 2000 - how to install Windows XP without ODD and FDD?

I have this Toshiba Portege 2000 old OS crashed a few days ago. This laptop is not an optical drive and a floppy drive.

The first thing is mind is to purchase an external optical drive which I did, but it does not seem to boot from it. I have trouble to install Windows XP but nothing helped.
Can you guys please help me?

The last option I have in mind would be to install Windows XP on a network. The portege 2000 is able to boot from PXE, the thing is that I don't know how to do it! Can someone tell me how to boot from PXE?

    Thank you very much.

I don't know Mr. but as far as I know if copy you the Windows XP CD to HARD disk and then you start from external floppy drive (it should work) you can start the installation.
Copy the XP CD to your HARD drive with a drive enclosure external DRIVE on another computer, create a boot floppy XP and start from it.
Go to the I386 folder and start the WINNT. EXE

Or you use the CD/DVD drive from another computer with the netbootdisk. I found this with Google:

  • Install Windows 8 on Portege R500

    Hello

Is it possible to install Windows 8 on a Portégé R500? I've tried and failed. I think that the reason is that Windows 8 not use a GPT and MBR disk.

Y at - it an update of the BIOS to treat the GPT disks?

    Thank you

As much as I know this old Portege is not supported for Win8 and Toshiba didn't offer not any what Win8 driver tool or utility, especially not a BIOS version that is designed to help with the installation of Win8.

  • Portege R200 - Display driver for Windows 7

I upgrades the operating system on my Toshiba Portege R200 to Windows 7

TThe BONE determined my monitor as generic, it does not allow more than display settings. I think I need to replace the driver. Toshiba has no update driver for this model

Is there any equivalent elsewhere, or with toshiba under other models?

    Hey,.

I agree with you, santhi_G. I checked the site Web of Toshiba Portege R200 drivers and there is no available drivers for Windows 7 or Vista same. Only XP and Windows 2000 is supported. :(

I discovered that the Portege R200 Intel graphics so probably has that you can find a driver directly on the Intel Web site. It's worth a try ;)

  • Portege R700 - install Windows 7 via Windows Deployment Services - error

    Hello

I have a set of 8 Portege R700 PT310-E computer laptop on which I need to install Windows 7 Professional. I want to do this by using our company Windows deployment server (using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to generate the image). While it is loading all software, our company uses.

I have been using the version 32 bit Windows 7 and do a PXE boot from the server. The problem I encountered is that when the laptop starts the installation of the server image. It loads successfully, but does not because it can't find the network device.

What I find strange that I loaded all R700 network drivers in the boot.wim file. I also tried to download all Windows 7 Pro LAN drivers remaining on the Intel site and load those as well as the pilot on the Toshiba site, but it has also generated the same error.

Someone at - it experience to install via WDS on the R700 model? Is there a fix for this, because we are very impressed by these laptops, but being only unable to install via WDS is more annoying.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Dominic :-)

    Hello

What exact version of R700 do you use? Also what version of BIOS is installed?

  • Can not install Windows on Portege M200

    Hello
I bought a Portege M200 opportunity. I discovered that the HARD drive was broken, so I bought a new one, plus a (160 GB)
I know the problems Porteges can do when triing to install the OS on them, so I used this tutorial for installation of the network:
    [http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/02/01/how-to-boot-from-the-network-pxe-boot-with-tftp-and-windows-pe/ | http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/02/01/how-to-boot-from-the-network-pxe-boot-with-tftp-and-windows-pe/]

everything worked well. then, my xp installation 'button' was grey, so I went with this tutorial:
    http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/07/30/option-to-install-Windows-is-grayed-out-when-running-network-install/

that worked well, too. The installer kopies some files and the desire to do a restart. So he brought me to Windows PE, I typed 'wpeutil reboot' as described in the second tutorial. My PC has started again and then nothing happens.
I chossed "boot from HDD" and all I can see is a black screen with a small flashing underscore white top.

IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING. I also tried another method, for example the back of things (like I got [my R100 to work | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=120473]), with the same result.

Thanks a lot for your help!

You have a smaller HARD drive you can try?

The M200 may be limited to 120 GB HDD due to the LBA48 137 GB limit. More info here: http://www.48bitlba.com/

Ultimately, you must use the original Toshiba Portege M200 recovery disk to reinstall Windows. You can order from Toshiba https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • How to install Windows XP on a new shaped 2010 Portege

Hello, I have my friends Toshiba Portege 2010 Notebook. He got no internal floppy or a CD player. The hard drive has been formatted with the BACK and there is no recovery of the product disc. So there is nothing on the laptop with the exception of the BIOS. I have an external floppy drive that can be used. I also have an external USB CD drive, but can't find the laptop. I managed to copy command.com and some USB drivers on the hard drive with the floppy drive and a Windows startup disk. But the CD drive is not recognized.
We thought to copy the files to install Windows on the hard drive via LAN. The router is able to recognize the laptop, but we cannot access the other PC...

Someone had similar experiemces with Portege laptops... Can anyone help please?

    > Has anyone at - he had similar experiences with the Portege laptops?
Yes, of course and it s a simple solution. You need an external drive of compatible pcmcia cards if you want to boot from the CD!
If you want the LAN as a source of startup, you will need to install the RIS on a second PC server. Then you might be able to boot from LAN.

Another tip use the advanced search of this forum and you will get several discussions on the installation of the operating system on laptop computers Portege

  • Portege 3490, to install new HDD with windows xp ready?

My hard drive failed recently on my portege 3490. I bought a 20 GB seagate replacement hard drive. I installed Windows XP pro by connecting the drive (via adapter) to my office and ran the installation cd.

I thought that I could then just mount the drive in the Portege and be good to go. However when I turn right away on the system asks me to insert the disc system.

I don't have a floppy drive and my single cd is a USB and I can't use it to start.

Someone at - it any ideas how I can get this working?

I plugged my other laptop (Toshiba no) with the same drive and it booed immediately. Thanks for your help

    Hello

Unfortunately I have no drivers list, but on the download from Toshiba site you will find about 18 different drivers for your device using BONE of W2000. Check it on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

As far as I know, it won't be easy to do something without floppy drive. I have no much experience with the Portege series but you can try to make two partitions on the second, you can copy the OS disk and start the installation of this partition. Even if you do this, you must start the unit with the startup disk.
