Reading while writing on SSD vs HDD

So, I've always heard that read and write to a drive HARD are not good, because it slows down the whole process (it's in the video rendering for Premiere Pro).

So, I know that SSDS are quite a bit different.  I am assuming that the reading and writing that takes place on 1 SSD during rendering won't be nearly as much of a problem that might happen on HDD 1.  However, I am not sure about that.  Am I correct in my assumption?  If this is not the case, what kind of performance degradation can occur, it would be interesting, and how comparable would be that of a HARD drive?

Yes, and more... regular high quality SATA III SSD which have the best controllers in them for video editing, (such as the M550 Crucial, or, the most expensive Samsung 850pro), will not suffer from "complete degradation"... lose performance as readers become more complete. In addition, the RELIABILITY... especially on the Samsung 850 Pro... is WAY higher for SSDS, as mechanical spinning disks... allowing these quality SSD to consider for RAID 0 using a much lower risk.

What you get is the nature of the interface SATA itself... it is a "half-duplex" interface, which means that he cannot write everything by READING... and vice versa. It's like an old radio walkie... When you press the button to talk and transmit... you cannot RECEIVE anything until you release the button. So, YES, that "half-duplex" disability is always there... BUT SSD reduce its effect with their reading MUCH faster and write speed AND their "" significantly lower latency, as Eric has said.

There ARE places to connect to devices of storage, particularly on new motherboards Haswell E X 99, which are "full duplex"... which allows to read and write at the SAME TIME.  However, to take advantage of this higher speed storage devices and connecting full duplex currently are much more expensive than the SATA devices. Peripheral PCI card storage, 'Express' SATA and M.2, can be used... but, currently, high costs and limited capacity.

With X 99... one option is to take advantage of the huge amount of SATA! ports on motherboard and just NVRAIDMAN to create RAID 0 with SSDS for storage... or well, using cheaper hard drives, with a large 7200 rpm "enterprise level" HARD drive to SAVE the RAID0 HDD!

I had a similar problem where After Effects, Premiere and Sony Vegas could not create QT files on some readers. After a lot of forum search I finally found a solution thanks to a tip from Rob Maybury on CreativeCow.net

It seems that QT will write only to readers with a unique name. My volumes have been implemented as follows (to search in Windows Explorer)

    • Local disc (c :))
    • New Volume (e :))
    • New Volume (g)
    • New Volume (h :))

I could create files in C: and F:, but not in G: and H:. After changing the Volume names so they were all unique:

    • Local disc (c :))
    • Volume (e :)) SSD
    • Master volume (g)
    • New Volume (h :))

I could now create files on any drive.

To change the name of the Volume, right-click on the drive and select "Rename" or display the Properties window and rename here.

  • The distribution of applications and data between the disk SSD and HDD

I recently installed an SSD in my Macbook Pro (late 2011) instead of the DVD player. I want to install OS X on it, by replacing the current OS X on the original hard disk, I will continue to use for storing files. How should I allocate its use in car? OS X and applications on the data files on the hard disk of 500 GB and SSD?

The first series of instructions will partition and format the newly installed SSD disk then install OS X on it. The second block will help you configure OS X on the SSD with your data on the HARD drive.

Clean Install of El Capitan on a new disc

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime, press Command + Option + R until a globe appears.
    2. The Utility Menu appears in 5 to 20 minutes. Be patient.
    3. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
    4. When loading disk utility, select the drive (generally, the entry Out-bumpy) in the list aside.
    5. Click the Partition tab in the main window of disk utility. A panel will fall.
    6. Set the GUID partition scheme.
    7. Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).
    8. Click on the apply button, then click the fact when it is active.
    9. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
    10. Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

How to use an SSD with your HARD drive

If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do.

After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume.

Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown. When the computer starts, it will now use the home located on the HARD drive folder.

Another more technical method involving the Terminal and the alias is discussed in depth here: using OS X with a SSD and HDD - Matt Gemmell configuration. It's my preferred approach because I can choose which records of the House, I want to on the HARD drive and I don't want to. For example, I like to keep Documents and library files on the SSD because I frequently access their content.

Make sure that you keep the bootable system entirely on your HARD drive where you need it.

  • HP pavillion x 360 13-a020nr: is is possible to install m.2 ssd and hdd simultaneously in hp pavillion 360 13-a020nr x?

Is is possible to install the m.2 ssd and hdd simultaneously in hp pavillion 360 13-a020nr x or I'll have to remove the hard disk to install the ssd?

    @VBenedichuk

Most of the time in the manual it looks like there are limits.

Example if SATA and M.2 settled m2 must be the bootable disc.

Example, if m2 is installed, then the other drive should be an SSD.

For yours, I see no limitation.

For w10pro c: / recommend reinstall to ssd or migrate ssd or even is...?

SSDS all have sons the same size and holes threaded on the bottom and sides.  They all use the same fine metric threads live short (short, so they don't lower).  These screws must come with the adapter, and I live in general using the lateral holes.  Parts of the adapter have threaded, 3 holes and you will use the back ahead and away from those for channels of the drive Bay.  If you look at each side of a standard 3.5 "HDD, you will see the same same spacing holes.

Some jobs need the SSD to shift to the left so the orientation of the SSD SATA power and data ports match exactly where they would be if the current drive was a 3.5 "HARD drive clutter.  An example is the drive in a Z620 of drawers which accept 3.5 form factor devices "and slides of drawers in the deep part of the case and automatically mesh with ports of power/data SATA back inside.

Jobs that fuel just a loose cable and the data cable for the SSD is really doesn't matter much if the SSD is an adapter which keeps it more centered or offset to the left.  I've seen cases where a disk HARD 3.5 "given in the lower Bay and a centered SSD is in the upper drive Bay and there was nearly not enough cable length to reach easily shifted left for drives staggered in the Center.  You can see in the photo below that the Garland of feeding on the HARD drive has two unused SATA power below connectors, and there is not a lot of room between them.

The card you chose seems good... solid metal.  For the HP 8200 Elite CMT I have access to screws 4 total special 6-32 UNC silver HP threaded screw threaded back ahead and away from the screw holes on both sides of the adapter, and then you use the extraordinary end threads metric short screws mentioned above to fix the SSD to the adapter, as shown in the pictures of Amazon.  These HP silver screw 6-32 no metric I'm talking using Torx or flat screwdriver and their leaders are trained to slip into the channels of the drive Bay.

There are also other designs which are designed specifically for some HP workstations that include mounts insulation rubber with the sliding mechanism.  I don't think you have that... Here is a picture of eBay one of the 8200 Desktop Elite CMT demonstrating the existence of space on the left for 8 of these silver screw to store, which 4 are missing and used on 3.5 "single drive, you see there.  Don't throw those... they are not something, you can go to Ace hardware and buy.

  • simultaneous reading and writing on a PDM file

I found similar discussions on here, but none that satisfied my problem. I'm running several loops within a vi, which writes data in a permanently .tdms file. Another loop to finish its task from the start in a test, and I want to transition this loop so that it accesses the file writing and started writing on a network. It also enables me to check that the data is being stored in the file and that it is corrupt.

I started with just the basics, but when I pass the second loop to read the file that is is always written off mistakes, saying that she met at the end of the file. It does if I put the count 1, -1 or anything in between. It illuminates, however, the end of the file output.

I have the entry in the file tdms on PDM read wired to a local variable, just as I do writing PDM, they all have both read the same thing and I get an iterations of a data value of the reading, so, apparently, file access is no problem. And I have to someone who cringed to local variables, ensure that reading and writing are not activated until the local variable is updated.

Try to set the "group name" entry on «TDMS read» If you write more than one group, you can use "View the contents of the DDHN" in order to get a list of groups.

  • simultaneous reading and writing files TDMS

A customer had a program written in 8.6; the programmer is no longer available and I'm looking to debug intermittent problems.

N - channels of data is acquired and streamed to a PDM file. The operator can select a channel to view data in real time, but the display is one scope table displaying 15 seconds worth of data and when switching of channels the program "returns" display with the last 15 seconds of a data value of the new string (barrier data extracted from the TDMS file).

What I notice here, aside from using sloppy cluster error, is that both references are open in the file - one for writing data and the other for recovery data. Is this a good practice? is it necessary or one reference supports the reading and writing? Is this a possible source of problems?

    thanx

    lmd2

You can do the same thing with a single file reference.

The issue of not being able to see the data that was written after the reading of reference has been opened is known for having refnums to open in two different processes, but not in the same executable or VI.

  • HP probook 4540 s: dual boot 4540 with SSD and HDD

    Hello world

Recently, I replaced my HDD with a SSD on my HP probook 4540 s

Using a HARD drive enclosure, I installed the SSD on the slot of the hard drive and the HARD drive on the DVD drive SATA connector

the two hard drives have win 7 professional 64 bit

When I turn on the laptop, the OS on the SSD starts and I see the HARD drive as a storage drive

Thus, from a material point of view, everything works fine

now, I would like to use two hard drives with the ability to use win 7 times of SSD and HDD

to boot from the HARD drive, I tried to change the boot order put the DVDrom before the hard drive, but it did not work

any suggestion\software tool which may help?

    Thank you very much

    Giuseppe

    @Giuseppe1:

To do this, you must choose a single installation as the default and change the BCD in this one to include starting in the installation of other.

Installing Win7 on the internal HARD disk is the best choice because he will always be there.

That change, download and install EasyBCD from Neosmart Technologies.  It is a tool on the menu to change the BCD.  It is safe to download and use, as I use it all the time.

    Once installed, follow these steps:

    (1) run EasyBCD

    2) click on the button Add a new entrance on the left

    (3) in the section on the right operating system, click the Windows tab, and then select the drive that contains the OTHER Windows startup

    4) click the button Add an entry

Now when you reboot your machine, you should see a menu with two entries - one for each version of the windows OS.

    Good luck

    Hi out there,.

I constantly get this error: hearing has encountered an error reading or writing, etc. as mentioned above, recommend save etc and restart. It does not help.

I recorded some local gospel singers and mix just by a few beats for them, etc.  I had this error before.  any ideas on how to solve this problem?  I hate losing so much work.

Thank you and asante sana, greetings from Tanzania

    ryclark,

Well, just my hard drive, then tried externally, just a mac at home.  Thanks for the idea...

I have 200 GB free... in any case, I tried earlier and it worked without problem.  Maybe it was just a glitch that close and restart corrected.  Sometimes, you get so deep in the work that you have forgotten that a glitch is sometimes just a small problem.

  • Reading and writing data XML of BC4J

    Hello!

I try to reproduce "27.7 reading and writing XML data" chapter of 'Developer Framework of developing applications for forms/4GL developers's Guide. "
Our intention is to read and write at first only XML.
However, it seems that we need this chapter a database connection.
To shorten this assessment - is it possible to adf bc only with xml?

    Kind regards
    Torsten

The solution is described in "27.8 Using programmatic view objects from other Sources of data" in the doc you mentioned. If you use programmatic EO/VO you can do almost what you what to store data. We use xml for some data (but always store in the DB) and read it.

  • Portege R30 does not SSD start after upgrade SSD and HDD

    Hello

I have improved my Portege R30 - A to add a second SSD (Crucial M550) replace the optical with the new SSD drive with caddy.

But now the system does not start automatically from the original SSD.

I could press F12 while turning on my laptop and make it appear the start guide. Here I can see my original SSD and I can boot from it properly.

In order to boot in the BIOS, I see only the HDD/SSD, USB, ODD memory... It doesn't gives me the possibility to choose between SSDS.

In any case when I boot in this way than getting blue screens after awhile in win7.

I tried to install a HARD drive as the second drive instead os SSD and her resut is the same.

Is that what I can do to solve this, now I have to use the second drive as an external USB drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

This ODD of SSD/HDD replacement is not always possible and in many cases, the BIOS will not handle and will not recognize the new HARD disk correctly.

That I can remember some old laptops Toshiba Tecra and Portege that supported the functionality of Slim Select Bay were able to manage the 2nd HARD drive instead of driving WEIRD, but this was not possible due to the available selection slim Bay.

In your case it looks like the laptop so that the BIOS does not support this function and, therefore, the additional SSD/HDD isn't recognised correctly.
