Really fundamental questions of work plan

I recently got PS - CC, and playing around, I discovered work plans.  After you set the preferences correctly, creation of work plan is very easy, but there are a few things I don't understand.  WHY would I want a work plan?  What is its use?  What I do with it?

In Photoshop, this is a technique of organization. For app designers and Web designers, it is really convenient to use work plans to create web designs and application for different devices or screen sizes in a single file.

  • Work plans: selection of the artboard and unlock automatic disabling shapes in the work plans - possible?

    Hello

I easily through the General work plan, and I saw immediately, so I thought I'd put it out there. Here are my two questions:

    1. is there a way to disable the ability to move a work plan while working in it? Essentially, to block the plan in place, but not the items it contains? If you use the automatic selection and slightly approach the edge of the plateau, then swipes the entire Board rather than just a few layers / items you want.

2 is there a way to auto unlock all layers, including forms? It can be really frustrating for fish through the layers to find the form locked in order to remove a work plan. Command + / has not worked for me when I closed a single object manually.

Thank you very much! I hope that these are not repeated questions.

    1. Yes. Use 'Position Lock' on the layer of the artboard properly said.

    2. Yes. Select the parent group or the artboard. While holding down the alt/option key, choose "Lock all layers in artboard...» "in the drop-down menu Layers Palette.

This should unlock all layers inside this group or the artboard.

(Probably, the fact that the menu does not change when you hold down the alt key is a bug, but it does not)

  • Command of the keyboard to switch between work plans?

I was unable to find a shortcut - or a menu/button option - to change the display between work plans (like turning pages in InDesign). If there is not one, I hope it's in the works for the next update. Double click right on the artboard in the layers panel displays its parameters and Ctrl + 0 by default to "adapt (all work plans) on the screen.

So far my solution is to Ctrl + 0 to 'hold the artboard on screen. ' I can, click once on a work plan in the layer panel, then press the shortcut and it will be re-center/size on the newly selected artboard. But this involves several steps and you may need to scroll down in the layer panel. A simple 'page' high-low shortcut would be nice.

Thanks to all the people who have comments!

What a great question, but no, we don't have navigation plan work in Photoshop as we do in Illustrator, or page navigation as in InDesign. You can put in your request here: feature request/Bug Report Form .

  • My file has plenty of empty space 'outside' of the work plan that I can't get rid of? How to crop the file to the artboard size real?

Above is my plan of work and space to work, but when I try to resize the image (or save it in jpeg format to show the problem I have) there is a ton of white space outside the artboard and the crop tool and two work plan tool say that my file is not as large as the size above , but its been as big as the screenshot below.

    Screen Shot 2016-02-12 at 1.05.57 PM.png

I can't find anyone else having this problem. Am I the only one? How can I solve this problem? It is to be a huge problem for web design. And he did it for all of my projects as web design he updated to have work plans.

    Hi Nicole,.

I'm sure that it is a problem that we followed. We have not addressed it yet, but it's on our list of things to fix.

Plan of work documents have a canvas in auto-expand; This is part of the user experience, which gives a feeling of infinite to the document; You can place things anywhere in the view, and they should remain visible no matter where you drag. In order to maintain this illusion, paint us the entire surface to mate with the same color outside work plans.

Hide us this canvas from you, even if it's still there. You can see how big it is at any time by choosing "Image > canvas... size. ». That size will change as things move around, getting bigger and smaller than necessary. The hidden canvas size will break to the next more or less 'limit of diamonds", which is nominally in increments of 1024 pixels. This is done for performance.

The problem is that the export code is really not updated as the work plans can develop and reduce the canvas. When you export a document of work plan, it looks at the current size of the Web and uses only. That's why you get that extra white space. This extra space problem happens also for other things, like thumbnails of document. We agree it's pretty boring, and as I said, it's on our list to fix.

    Try this workaround:

    1. download your ready to export document.

    2. in the work plan tool, select the gear icon (top tool bar, far right) and uncheck auto-size canvas

    3. Select the Rectangle tool and cover the artboard from edge to edge. (Snap allows here)

    4. Select the crop option. This can reduce the canvas to just the boundaries of the artboard.

5 export under..., choose your format, for example PNG. and export.

    6. don't check any extra white space.

Note that "Web auto-size" is a property of document-sticky and is saved with the document.

  • Creation of work plans that begin in the upper left corner of the canvas

    Hello world.

I was wondering if it is possible...

I would like to create a series of work plans that begin in the upper left corner of my canvas. Right now, all arboards are created the dead center.

I can't find an option for this, but is there a way to do it without having to move manually work plans that I create? It's a lot of time if I want to do a lot at once.

  • Scripting languages and numbering of work plans

    Hello fellow Scripting Guys,.

    First Question:

I know the Java scripts and I remember supporting Basic but what other languages I can script in?  Can I have the largest part of the Java script then have parts in SQL?

    Second Question:

I know how to do a script writing text to a layer and using the position (x, y) location, but if I have several Art cards? I need to do the following:

Look for the number total of //Some art cards files have 2 other 3 and very few will be 4.

Take the advice number, not name art and print it lower-left (1.1) from the bottom.

I would need to run this batch on a folder that contains subfolders of subfolders.  They are all the .ai or .pdf files and there is about 2 k files.  I have about 2-3 months to do this, but I wanted to write the script now so that I can have it done, this way I can run on pieces of files at once.

I've never done a batch script, and I've never had to write a script that changes between the boards of the art.  I need to know how to tell Illustrator to choose a Council of art, I can create the loop cycling through all the art advice and then I can say to save, but how can I say to get the next file in the folder and repetition?

to print the text of each work plan, you can use the function below. I have just set a variable to the text to be printed, it can so easily be changed if need be.

    I hope it's useful.

    function printToArtboards(){
        var docRef = app.activeDocument;
        var artboards = docRef.artboards;
        var layers = docRef.layers;
        app.coordinateSystem = CoordinateSystem.ARTBOARDCOORDINATESYSTEM;

  • All work in work plan was gone! Help!

I don't know what I've done, but all the work in my work plan disappeared. I see that everything is still in my menu layers, but I don't see anything on my work. This is just a big blank white space. Also if I move my mouse on the artboard, it turns into a pencil with a crossed circle. My layers are not locked or hidden that I can say, so I don't know what the problem is. I did my best to review it before posting, but I can't find anything on this problem. I use elsewhere on Adobe Illustrator CS6.  I thank all in advance for any advice, you can give!

  • Why the my canvas size is bigger than my work plan?

    Hello

I'm working on a larger project, where I have mulitple PSDs linked in a single document. The individual DSP that have all plans of work that are the same size, but in inspection of the size of the canvas on these documents vary considerably in size.

This causes me some discomfort because:

-When you place the PSD files in the main document, the bounding box of the PSD is much larger than the graphics I want to place.

-Second, if I want to resize the size of the canvas on the current related DSP, I am trying, it shrinks the chart down much more that what I would actually. This causes me to have to change the size of each graphical element, which sometimes can be quite tedious.

In my view, that the size of the canvas should be able to resize the artboard size I'm working on, if only when I have a single work plan I'm working on (which is currently the case).

Is there a way to adjust PS for the canvas size will correspond to the size of the artboard? Whereas if I adjust the length of the arboard, the size of the canvas reflects the change in size?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, it is still an open question in our backlog of work.

The following workaround solution is clumsy, but should work:

    1. choose the tool work plan.

2 Unger, the gear icon, deselect auto size canvas. This setting affects only the current document.

    3. adjust the size of your canvas as needed using the Image-> canvas size command. It will remain at that size until you change it again manually.

Work plan documents do not show the extent of the Web, but there are ways to see: layers of filling (with disabled auto-nid) under all work plans, for example.

  • Why cannot export a work plan at 200% scale exceed past high 10000px

I have a 320 x 9357 mobile design. To support the devices in the retina, I am trying to export and to scale my design of 200%, so the final dimensions must be 640 x 18714. When I right click the layer of the artboard and export... the result is an image to 354 x 10357. I have tested the same work plan, but reduced the height to 5000px. The result came out perfect, 640 x 10000. To check this case, I created a work plan of the same design but to 640 x 18714, he exported, but it did not apply to 200%. The result is out, true to size, 640 x 18714. Can I deduce that it is a bug with the function "export as" for work plans at the measurement of 200% at the same time? For some reason I can't change any export 200% if the final result exceeds high 10000px.

Yes, there is a limitation to export; It is not really because of 200% or actual dimensions, but more on the size and complexity of the exported document.

    We work to improve it.

  • Layer mask groups converted from work plans to the size of the artboard in older versions of Photoshop

I wanted to start this post as an idea, but I couldn't choose communities (it wouldn't let me), so here it is posted...

    ----

Just came across this with a customer...

I use for a mobile design project work plans, and I just got a screenshot with some texts asking why among work plans were really great. Way bigger than a phone. (I'm under NDA and cannot post the screenshot, but imagine there are a lot of iPhone size work plans and two of them seem to be at a right angle)

I opened the file and on my end, everything is the right size. Remembering the weeks ago to tell the customer that they need to update their version of Photoshop for all this work correctly, I have take a look at the screenshot and see that they are on CC2014 - none of the work plans.

What I'm asking here, is that, since we have data, plans of work are objects of a defined size and 'alive', why not just use these data to hide layer groups at the opening of the PSD / PSB (PSB in my case) in older versions of Photoshop?

It could save you a TON of hassle and confusion.

    Hi Zack,

High level to your query response is: no, there is no conduct business case for a general solution to what you are suggesting. So I don't see what is happening.

I say that as someone who likes to give back and forth and backward compatibility.

There are two parts of the problem that you raise. They are related and somewhat intertwined.

    1. Having the version previous (2014) do something reasonable with the data from the version the most recent (2015). Either the old version should be taught on the most recent data so it can make a decision about what to do, or the newer version must put additional data in the file format for consumption by the older version.
    2. Back and forth between versions. As you say, a much more difficult problem. In fact, we do a good job of that today. But we must be sure that whatever we do for (1) not to damage and back the wrong way.

Let's be very clear: 2014 will not be touched, except for critical bugs, absolutely. And even before 2015 is released, it would have not been corrected to make it behave better with work plans. There is no way that I could see what is happening. So all we have done for better backward compatibility had to be entirely done within 2015.

For the round trip, the general problem is something like this: we want to 2014 to read an object that has properties of 2015, he does not understand. While we might learn ch to keep these properties as opaque property, must also have rules for when these properties are not valid and thrown on the floor. Probably, if the object is changed. But not always. And sometimes when another object parent is changed. And so on. Right now, we destroy them unknown content from their reading in the old version. Make us and record what we understand. As a user, you receive an alert telling you that we are do this. It's the safest thing to do.

There are special cases where a developer can see an opportunity to preserve a level of backward compatibility and back and forth. We try to do if we believe that it is safe. But this scenario happens only occasionally.

In the case of work plans, made us really think about this: If we added a mask to the group for backward compatibility, it should do something with this mask reading around 2015. And what would happen if the user edited this mask in 2014 and opened upward in 2015 - and who edited mask do not align with the structures of the artboard? Things started to get dark quickly. We started to see traps. The workflow together to sheath special round trip had to be tested and verified. The cost was rising and this expense must be filtered through a cost/value trade-off. And then what happens when we add a new property to the structure of work plan? At these efforts for nothing?

So we compromised with what you have today. Work plans become groups in 2014. The Group and the layer structure remains intact. Doesn't secretly add us and remove masks for the round trip. You can safely change the groups to your heart's content. When return you this document in 2015, you redo the work plans of the groups. Was not clear and safe way to do more than that given the time that we had.

Take a step back and think about your problem, it doesn't seem to be a value to a script that converts group work plans + layer masks for your workflow to have your documents that is consumed by the customers of 2014. This would be carried out in 2015 because she would need understand the work plans. And maybe vice versa from 2014 to 2015, assuming that the documents were not published in a hostile way. We're not likely to write such a script as a generic tool, but someone competent with script might be able to do this.

More that I intend to write, but hopefully, it gives you additional insight in the compromises that we have faced.

  • Is it possible to export the layers of work plans?

I was so happy when Adobe introduced plans to work in Photoshop. And was impatient to try it on the practice. And earlier I finished Web site design that has by page 3 work plans. And a lot of layer comps on every page.

And it turned into a nightmare...

I can't export all the layers automatically. I have to manually put in each layer comp, click on "export as...". ». In the same file names are the same (called as a work plan). So I have to rename the exported images before the switch then layer comp and export it.

If I use the command "export > Layer Comps to files...". ', it exports all work plans in 1 file for each layer comp. But the worst thing is that these files look like this:layouts.jpg

-with huge space empty around work plans.

I spent a lot of time designing the site and now I even can't show the client!

    So my question is:

Is there a way to export the layers of each work separately plan with corresponding file names? (as it works for the old "Layer Comps to files... ("without work plans).

But if there is no solution I think it's a major issue in usability.

  • Updated to the new Photoshop CC 2015: work plan and the background are both white I can't see any outline. Will not change when I try to get a different background color.

This seems almost elementary but I tried everything literally, the only thing I can think is that this is a bug.

When I'm working on work plans, they are white and the background is white, so I don't quite see the outline. I tried to change the background color to dark gray or any other color, but nothing works. I restarted my computer, the software, everything. Nothing works. It only happens to me, everyone in my company isn't the problem. We checked out the contrast on my computer and it's all good. I had two different designers tinker around with it and they say it must be a bug because they have tried everything they can and I also.

Now I simply add a grey box dark to my work plans so I can see the sketch, but it's really annoying, I have to do, especially since I work with Photoshop 4 hours per day.

You must set your GPU options in preferences to something other than "Bacic."
