rebuild the virtual Center Server

Hi all

I upgraded my server VC 2.02 to 2.5 and I'm having all kinds of weird questions. My question is, I would rather rebuild downtown VC from scratch. I currently have a 4 host cluster (3.02). Should I break the cluster? disconnect hosts from the VC? rebuild VC, reconfigure the license server, and then re-create the cluster?

  • Installation of SQL Server for the virtual Center Server

    Hi all

We bought 16 x 2 for ESX server CPU licenses.  So, I will prepare a database of virtual server of the Management Center 16 guests. As SQL Server 2005 Express is installed during installation of Virtual Center Server but VMware is recommended for use only for 5 guests.

So I would like to prepare a database of SQL for VC server, please help me how to make the database to the virtual Center Server. Are there special tables, configuration, permissions. I have no experience with databases then how should I go with it. Is there a guide for it. The ESX Server installation guide explains only create ODBC connections.

Please help me with this I would be very obliged.

I know that the procedure is restrited 2 steps (1 and 2) on page 68, but you need to install and configure SQL Server for your business standard (I guess asking the C: or D: and data/newspapers on E :). I'm not going to explain better how to install SQL Server on a server. For the SQL Server database:

    • Step 1: you create a database storing the files on the right disk (with at least 30 GB) with a default database size to the size defined by the "Calculator" (value of + 15% on the line of your choice statistical level).

    • Step 2: On your Microsoft SQL Server, create a user of SQL Server database with the database rights of operator (DBO). The default database for the DBO User is that you defined in step 1. Make sure the database user has a role of sysadmin server or the role of database db_ownerfixed on the VirtualCenter database and the MSDB database. The role db_owner on the MSDB database is required for the installation and upgradeonly. This role can be removed after installation or upgrade process iscompleted.

The user must be created for your standard business as service account (password never expires) with a long and complex password.

Other steps in the document are for the ODBC connection.

Creating the tables is made during the installation of VC. Nothing to do. A characteristic is not to stop the SQL Server agent because some tasks are scheduled in the database to 'compact' statistics.

For the record, the database is upgraded when installing patches VC creating of new tables, updating of data type or...

  • NATing between an ESX server and the Virtual Center Server.

We strive to set up a server to VirtualCenter 2.5 inside a firewall and put servers ESX 3.5 within each of our customer networks. The problem is that within each client network, the IP address must be coordinated. Support of ESX 3.5 originating server, and if so, how do I set up? If not, how VMware plans to support this?

    I think I am confused?

    It is on this link?

Supported for VirtualCenter 2.0 only NAT

This version supports for the connection from ESX Server 2.5 and VirtualCenter 3.0 hosts using NAT (NAT). To configure ESX Server to connect to a VirtualCenter server is configured behind a NAT, you must add the following in vpxd.cfg configuration setting:

    < vpxd >

    ...

    < managedip >ipAddress< / managedip >

    ...

    < / vpxd >

When the IP address is the address of the host ESX Server uses to communicate with the VirtualCenter server.

See KB 2195771 "Manually setting Cluster IP address for Clustered VirtualCenter Server" for more information on the manual configuration of the IP address in the file vpxd.cfg.

Also note that the NAT must be configured to allow packets UDP Port 902 of this IP address.

  • Installation of the SQL Server Agent on the Virtual Center Server

    Hello everyone

I installed VC2.5 on a PowerEdge 1950 server.  The SQL VC database will reside on a different server, of course, I understand that you need to create a system DSN.  But he also stated that the "SQL Server Agent" must run on the VC server.  How to install SQL Server agent?  It is installed from the SQL installation CD?

    Thank you!!!

SQL Agent is part of the SQL Server installation and only would be located on the database server.

Would you lose all the virtual machines on the server at this point in time?

    Thank you

No, you won't lose all the virtual machines.

    Is ' VMware-VMimporter - 2.0.0 - 30557 "is the software through which I can solve my problem?

You need to browse each data store, go to the folder of the virtual machine, right-click on the *.vmx file and add it to your inventory.

  • Migration of the Virtual Center of SQL2005 database to a new server running SQL2008

    Virtual Center 2.5 Build 147633

    ESX hosts 3.5.0 143128

Separate server database running SQL 2005

We replace our SQL2005 server with a server SQL2008. We will migrate the database of VC on him. What are the steps on the side of Virtual Center. My plan is to:

    1. Backup the database

    2. Stopping VMWare services

    3. Migrate the database to SQL2008

    4. Change the Virtual Center ODBC connector to point to the new database server

    5. Restart the VMWare services.

Is there anything, I'm missing or should be cautious?

just note that, as of today, SQL 2008, is not a database supported for vCenter

  • Stuck to the configuration of the license server to the virtual Center

    Hi all

I tried to configure VI3 on my laptop and did almost all the configurations below

I created as a result of VM on my laptop on Vmware workstation 6.5

    -2 Esx 3.5 Server

    -1 open run VM SAN

    -Center Virtual Win2k3 VM

Everything is going well so far the esx servers start in 5 minutes and SAN targets are visible. But I don't see the Vmotion option on my virtual Center Server (probably because I n, t configured license server).

I try to add the file licesnse to the file licsencse on the server of VMware, but still no help. I din, t get any mail from vmware with licenses in so attachment.

anyidea what can be done here?

    Thanks in advance

    Anuj

    Hello

Okay, I think that the license server is already there.

    is how to enable vmotion

in each of your esx hosts

go to the tab slot-> choose the networking-> click Properties of the vSwitch that is connected to your network vmotion (it must be a network of vmkernal)-> select the vmotion network in the new window and click on edit-> click on the box where it says enable vmotion.

    do this for both servers.

  • Update ESXi with a Virtual Center Server

    Hello

I've updated a Standalone ESXi server using this guide

    http://www.vmadmin.co.UK/VMware/35-esxserver/262-esxvihostupdate

It works the same way during the updating of the ESXi servers that are under a virtual Center Server?

    Thank you

as part of the upgrade, using Crossover, a new vCenter agent is pushed. So, no, you don't break anything.

  • Virtual Center Server not joined to a domain

The environment is ESX 3.5 update 5 and Virtual Center Server 2.5 update 5.

My question is; Virtual Center Server 2.5 can be installed on a W2003 server that is not joined to a domain?

If the installation is possible what are the disadvantages and consequences?

At a later date, the server can be attached to a field and Virtual Center updated accordingly? Thanks,-Jeff

My question is; Virtual Center Server 2.5 can be installed on a W2003 server that is not joined to a domain?

    Yes.

If the installation is possible what are the disadvantages and consequences?

Depends on if you are using ad groups / users to connect to vcenter.  Otherwise, you must use local accounts for vCenter to provide user access to your vCenter cluster.  Adding the vCenter in the field would facilitate this in the future add / secure users.

and Yes, you can join vCenter to the domain at any time, but it requires a reboot...

  • Migrate the Virtual Center databases

I'll be moving on my DB Manager Update VM DB, composer DB VM and VM DB license to a new SQL 2005 server, virtual Center. Is it OK just to stop the services on the Virtual Center and DB SQL Server and then migrate the DBs to the new server? And then then recreate ODBC connections?

Yes, I stopped services.  Also, see this KB, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/7960893 , it may be useful

  • Virtual Center Server

    Hello

I would just like to double check that we plan to do the following:

We want to upgrade to vsphere 4 and the first thing we will do is virtual Center upgraded version 2.5.0 in the virtual center of vphere.  After that, it may be a month or two before upgrade us the hosts.  Is there a problem to do this way?  The virtual centre of vsphere 4 will work without any problem with esx 3.5 hosts.  Users will be able to use the new vi client and connect, manage and make existing tasks with the guests of 3.5.

The existing virtual server is the license server.  I guess all I have to do is update the virtual center with the new license?

    Thank you

The license server will not disappear, so you just need to keep it around your 3.5 hosts, once they are gone you will add the key code in the vCenter for your other hosts, under settings-> licenses vCenter.  After the upgrade you will need the license for vCenter but not so much for ESX4 until you move in this way, then you can add them in.
