Recently upgraded to El Capitan, I had that problem for Mail stop unexpectedly when I saw some posts.  I followed the steps and was able to remove the trouble messages.   Now I can't restore the mail window message viewer component.  When I try to catch the separator bar to go back to the left, only half of the small arrow icon and line appears, and it cannot be moved.   Can open the message by double clicking a message viewer.

    Hi there, alicefrompa!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. From your post, I understand that you do not see the Message Viewer box which allows you to read your e-mails; only see you the Inbox that includes a brief overview of the message and are unable to restore access using the separator bars. I have had this happen to my own Mail app and am happy to let you know how I could fix!

You are really on the right track - you want to roll your mouse over the divider between the Inbox and sections Message Viewer (which should now be on the extreme right edge of your mail window) and drag it to the left.  When you click on the receipt/Message Viewer box, the cursor turns into a line continuous black with a single arrow pointing to the left. When you see the cursor change, click with the left button of the mouse and (while holding down the mouse button in) drag the combination line / arrow to the left. You may need to drag a little further than before to get it. I had to hang mine almost completely in the middle of my Mail app before the display of the message box appeared.

From there, you should be able to adjust the boxes to your widths you want as expected.

If you are still not able to get the display of the messages visible after have try this, here are a few more things that you can do.

    1. Press command + O on your keyboard.
    2. Exit the Mail application, and then press on and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard while reopening.
    3. Restart your Mac by selecting the menu  Apple in the upper right of your screen restart from the menu drop down.

    See you soon!

  • All applications "quit unexpectedly" - recently upgraded to El Capitan.

I'm at a complete loss for what to do about my Macbook. I can't identify when the problem started or what caused it, but my guess is it started after my upgrade to El Captian a good a few weeks ago.

You see, I mainly use my iPad and iPhone on the day the day. My Macbook (mid 2010 model ' Macbook' white), just sitting in our living room and is only opened and connected to our TV to stream Netflix on Safari a few nights a week. For the whole of this year, which was its only use, so I can't comment on exactly when the apps doesn't work anymore, because I have not used in a very long while to.
I got a notification of El Capitan upgrade a few months ago, so I did and my Macbook left overnight. It is only a day or two after that I went back to it to find the 'Welcome' screen and the new update in place. I completely forgot I have to perform an update. I then went on Safari as usual to stream a movie on Netflix and nothing could spread to alI. I gave up and closed my Macbook and watched on my iPad instead.

It wasn't while a few days later I thought id try and solve the problem of streaming media. I tried Flash Player in the Finder to check updates, but after typing a single character, all the Finder window disappeared - it has not been seen all that. I tried to access their website but Safari was incredibly slow. I thought about my recent update of El Capitan has then tried to open the App Store for a possible new updated, but I was given message the completely unexpected "App Store." I tried from other applications to find many others gives me the same message, pictures won't work, Mail, Text Edit, and nor will the simple application 'Preview' among many others. However, iTunes opens, and Safari works very slowly. It is so selective with what will be or will not work.

Most of the bugs I find necessarily need access to the App Store, but it won't work. I am looking for fixes for the App Store but I tried a lot of those, and they will not work either. This has been a problem for a good month or so now, but after trying and patches failed, eventually I give up and close my Macbook for a few more weeks before deciding to try again...

What happens on earth I can do to try to solve this problem?

Please read this message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It is unlikely to solve your problem. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The test is intended to determine if the problem is caused by a third-party software that loads automatically at startup or logon, by a device, by a police conflict or corruption of system files or some system caches.

Disconnect all devices wired except those required to test and remove all the expansion cards from secondary market, as appropriate. Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you usually connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

Test in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and make sure you always have the problem. View the results of the test.

  • I've recently upgraded to El Capitan of Lion.  My iPhoto library is also transformed into Photos.  In iPhoto, I used Photoshop as my editor in Chief of "standard / default.  I can't do that to work with Photos, all I can't get is the photo editor.

I've recently updated to Lion at El Capitan and my library of more than 40 000 iPhoto was also improved (?) photo.  He ran all night.  I used Photoshop as my editor of "standard/default" in iPhoto, but now I can't seem to appear in the photo is the photo editor, which is not enough for my purposes.  I have found a workaround that requires images to export], edited and then re-imported to the Photos, but I lose all the original images.  Can I have Photoshop become my default editor for Photos, as if it was in iPhoto?

3rd party editing application must be updated to work with the new structure of the El Capitan and Photos before they will be able to work seamlessly with Photos.

In the meantime we must export the original file in the office using the menu option file ➙ export Original unmodified for 1 Photo and edit the file there.

  • Recently upgraded to El Capitan, now Mail to automatically synchronize each account?

There are two Macs that run my business (for my father & I, then we can exchange emails), when we recently moved our Parallels and the operating system, we have encountered many problems with our old email accounts.  They were all set up as accounts pop.  We have been informed of all our POP accounts change in IMAP, so we did.  Now, every email that comes in is synchronized between the two computers.  Whenever he receives an email on his e-mail account, it appears both our computers as a new email.  Should he read it in his computer, it automatically gets "read" on my computer.  We are also two other accounts that are more universal for our society, that many of our customers will initially write us to inquire information.  The same problem also happens with these accounts.

Is there a way to reverse the trend?   Do we need to reroute other accounts to get sent to MY email?

    Any advice would be helpful.

What you describe is exactly the operation when using IMAP accounts and that is what most people prefer.

To reverse the trend, switch to the use of POP to access email accounts.

  • iCal freezes after upgrade to El Capitan

I've recently upgraded to El Capitan on my iMac and am now having problems with my iCal.  Whenever I run the application, iCal will freeze with a message "Retrieving data from the server", and then say it can not ("make sure that you are connected to the Internet") and asks if I want to try again, or try again later.  Most of the time it freezes just at the point of data recovery and I have to force quit out of iCal.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Jon

    Jon,

If you use iCloud, backup your calendars to iCloudand disconnect from the internet.

    Force quit calendar.

Then paste this ~/Library text in the Menu Finder > go > go to folder... window and select 'go '. This will open the folder library users.

Open the calendars folder that is located in the library folder and move all the files with "Cache" in the field of name on your desktop.

Then open the Preferences folder in the same library folder and move the file com.apple.iCal.plist on the desktop.

Open an outbound/inbound session or restart and open the calendar.

  • After the upgrade to El Capitan, my iMac is very slow.

I've recently upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.3 on my iMac (Mid2011). I have a cyber-security ESET Pro installed 6.1.12.0. After the upgrade I have trouble with the speed of the m/c and the startup takes a lot of time. I can't use my Photos and export pictures to google reader. I tried to disable the antivirus change, not much. Thanks in advance for any help.

Better to uninstall completely any anti-virus protection and all the apps 'cleaner '.

most people here will agree that there is no need of these

also make sure you have enough RAM 4 GB is really minimal.

and look for updates for third-party applications that you have installed.

  • Are older OS is available for download to be able to upgrade to El Capitan?

I'm selling my MacBook Pro for mid-2009 originally shipped with Lion. Years, I bought the discs for Snow Leopard, but they are in my home country (I'm an expat). I will be to reformat the hard drive, but if I reinstall the OS using the original disks of Lion it won't do any good buyer if they want something more recent, such as El Capitan (I upgraded the RAM to 8 GB and 1 TB hard drive.)

I think that Snow Leopard is available for purchase on disc, not for download. There is no official presence of Apple in the developing/third-world country where I live. I don't know if Apple will be available here, how much it would cost, or how long it would take.

Is it possible to buy a download of Lion or Lion MTN. in order to have a basis on which the buyer with their own Apple ID can be upgraded to El Capitan?

The base OS only that they need is Snow Leopard, which is only available on DVD; It is not possible for a pre-2010 Mac Internet Apple system recovery, so they would need to have a physical installation disc where the drive goes down.

It is also not possible to transfer a Lion or Lion of the mountains to them in this way. If you buy a download code for each operating system, you will not be able to a thumbdrive installation of them without make up the code in your Apple ID, preventing him being transferred to them.

I've recently updated to El Capitan 10.11.5. Since then, my Mac is running very slowly. Help!

    Hello

Much easier to troubleshoot why your Mac is slow so after upgrading of the El Capitan if you download and run EtreCheck

Then copy and paste the results in your response.

NO personal data is shared in the report.

This should give us an idea of what is causing the problem.

  • My photos got mixed after upgrade to El Capitan

Yesterday, I downloaded pictures from my camera to my iMac.  They added automatically the photos I had taken on my iPhone (through the cloud) today, I upgraded to El Capitan, in order to take advantage of the improved editing capabilities.  Today, some of my uploaded photos are only in all the photos in the album section and disappeared into the photos section.   In addition, all photos in albums are all mixed and cannot be reordered by date (ie: old photographs are mixed in the pictures I just took) I took more than 1000 pictures on this recent trip.  I can't imagine having to go through both of these sections to understand which photos are in one folder but not the other.  I wanted to make an album for the trip, now I can't figure out how to get all my recent photos in there.  I tried to reload the camera, and they say they are already loaded.  Help, please.  Obviously, I'm a novice user; Sorry if this makes no sense.

Don't know what you see but

All pictures and Photos are just two different views of the same library and unless you have corruption library each photo in one is in the other--noting that you can hide the pictures in Photos but they show in pictures

To check hidden photos look in the album "hidden".

To find pictures in Photos (years/Collections/Moments), select one from all the Photos and do a right-click - Select 'Show in the times' and the pictures will open in moments - usually, you'll see why you do not find it once you see where the on - is open moments but your selected photo isn't not to repair your database - backup the library of Photos and press the command and option keys while launching Photos and repair the database (note this will trigger a new download of ICPL for check the database is correctly synchronized)

Albums of the user can be sorted by ascending or descending date or by title - right click on the selection of the album option

And notice that picture contains a bug (or perhaps poor design) and that photos taken in a zone schedule and imported in a time zone different get Wonky kinds of photos with time information GPS that is different from the time zone of the system - if it's what you report to Apple because they certainly face this and more reports faster solution is likely to appear - http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

  • iCloud issues after upgrade to El Capitan

I thank everyone in advance for the contribution to this issue.  I have an old MacBook Pro (13, 2.5 GHz Intel i5, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3)) and I recently upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan (10.11.4).  I went to open my iTunes application and when I did, he said that "your music library iCloud session has expired' and asked my Apple ID and password.  I have entered the information and click OK.  The icon turns thought appears and at this time there nothing happens.  I work with other programs, but nothing ever changes with iTunes.  I finished by force he quit smoking (even if it does not does not stop not in the menu to force).  I restarted the computer, search for the updates and tried again with the same results.

I went online and tried to login to iCloud via a browser and it worked perfectly.  My other devices (iPhone and iPad) both work very well, so I don't think it's a problem with log in information.

I then went into system preferences to try to connect to the iCloud thanks to this icon.  When I click the iCloud icon in system preferences, I got the small multicolored wheel and again once it froze the program.  Some menus don't ever popped up.  When I had to force quit systems of preferences, he said that the application did not.

I would like to be able to get for my music, podcasts and device management.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Patch T.

Try each in order to test your system after each see if it is back to normal:

    1. a. reset the PRAM and NVRAM on your Mac.

    b. Macs with Intel processors: reset of the controller (SMC) system management

    2. restart the computer in Safe Mode, restart again, normally. If this does not help, then:

Boot to HD recovery: restart the computer after the ring, press in and hold the

COMMAND and R keys until it appears the Utilities menu screen.

3 repair the hard disk and permissions:

When the Utility Menu appears, select disk utility. After disk utility charges select the disk out-bumpy entry (usually, mfgr. ID) of the list on the left.  In the disk utility status area, you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is faulty or has failed. (S.M.A.R.T. status is not reported on external drives Firewire or USB). If the disc is "verified", then select your OS X volume in the list on the left (entry indented under the entry for the drive), click the first aid tab, then click the repair disk button. If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then again run repair disc until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions . Wait until the operation is complete, then quit disk utility. Select restart from the Apple menu.

4 reinstall the 10.10.4 update: OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Combo Update.

5 restart from HD recovery. Select reinstall OS X in the Utility menu, then click on the button continue .

  • Finder shows do not all files after upgrade to El Capitan

I've recently upgraded the OS on my iMac to Snow Leopard to El Capitan version 10.11.4.

Since the upgrade Finder shows all records.

I used to have a folder called 'Music', containing a large number of MP3 and WMA files, I had transferred my collection of CD so I could listen to them on my Sonos system. These files are still there, I can see them in "My files", but the record they were in shows no more, so the Sonos software cannot find them.

Finder displays 'Favorites', but not records such as users (understand me and the under 'Music' folder) no longer appear.

If I right click on a music file and select 'get info', I see that the old structure of the file is still there, but the Finder does not systematically.

How can I make Finder show all folders on the hard drive?

    System information:

    iMac (21.5 inch, late 2009)

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor

    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory

    Boot hard drive Macintosh disk

NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB graphics card

Open Finder > Preferences and click on the button of the sidebar. Add checks for folders and drives that you want to appear on the sidebar of the Finder.
