reclassification of 10.6.8 to Yosemite or El Capitan?

I want to upgrade my Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) to El Capitan, Yosemite or mainly so I can install Dragon Voice to the Word program.  Upgrade is recommended for this use and other global features?  Have 4 GB of memory... is that enough?

Since Yosemite is no longer available after the release of El Capitan, El Capitan is now your only choice now.

  • Can I have both Yosemite and El Capitan, installed on separate partitions on my Macbook Pro?

I want to upgrade my Macbook Pro (Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) to El Capitan. However, I have an important piece of the software - Avid Pro Tools HD 11 - which runs on Yosemite, but not on El Capitan. Can I create two partitions, each containing one of these two operating systems and then choose to start the partition of Yosemite, when I need to use Pro Tools? If so, how should I do this? Is there a support article, I can read to help me? Can you Yosemite partition contain only the BONES of Yosemite, and the rest are on the other partition? Thank you.

Yes, you can run them both. I guess the process is similar to this:

    http://osxdaily.com/2011/03/12/how-to-install-dual-boot-Mac-OS-x-10-7-Lion-and-1 0-6-snow-leopard.

Having two OSs on separate partitions is like owning two computers, they are completely separate. You want to see in the two places will have to literally be in two places. Copy the files from one OS to another will be facilitated by a USB stick as if it were two separate machines, for example.

  • Yosemite to El Capitan on old MacPro (early 2008)

I use an old MacPro (early 2008) on Yosemite with 20 GB of RAM. Is it safe to upgrade to El Capitan? I am afraid that it might slow down and I can't afford to work be slower. I know that I have to update my system, but until I can afford, I want to be careful on what updates, I have install. I run for most of the photographic applications like CC PhotoShop, Lightroom, Capture One, and the usual complement of productivity tools. I had to pretty much quit Lightroom because it runs too slowly.

I don't think any of the applications you mentioned that everything would go faster in El Capitan, in view of your computer.

  • import the library of photos of Yosemite to El Capitan

I'm doing a fresh installation of the El Capitan after I made backup of operating system existing Yosemite on external drive, so I need to import the library of Photos of Yosemite El Capitan.

How can I do? Suggestions please?

New facility means fade and clean install? If you have a backup or Yosemite is located on the external hard drive, then go in the user folder/photos Yosemite and restore the iPhoto for the El Capitan record/photos user library. Open iPhoto (or Photos), then set the location of the user folder/photo library.

  • Restoration of Yosemite on El Capitan

    Hello

I would like to restore from my MAC MINI running to a new MAC PRO running El Capitan Yosemite.  Can I do this?

I'm not worried about the user data on the new MAC PRO, because all my data on external drives.

Can I use TIME MACHINE from the MAC MINI and restore to the MAC PRO using the COMMAND R?

    Thank you

    Art

You computer is a Macbook Pro or Mac Pro? One is one laptop on the other, a desktop computer.  If the Mac Pro comes with El Capitan. I don't know if it is compatible back - word in Yosemite. If you use restore to install time machine backup, that he may try to go to Yosemite. On the other part with the backup time machine or Mac Mini use Migration assistant to transfer to the new computer.  https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT204350

  • File restore from Time Machine Yosemite to El Capitan

I need to restore a single file from a Time Machine backup of Yosemite to my new iMac El Capitan.  The file in question has been saved from a Mac Pro from 2008 to a Time Capsule.  I put Time Machine in the dock and right clicked on it, so I could navigate "Other Time Machine disks" and I am able to see the Mac Pro to backup, then select it.  However when loading the backup, it's for my new iMac and not for the Mac Pro.

How can I solve this problem?

    Hi jt

To be honest, the easiest is to go through the Finder. Navigate to the document you want and copy. Then simply paste it where you want.

The finder will allow you to see all of the back-ups no matter the OS at the time.

    Hope this helps, Greg
