Records re: ASM

Hello world!!

I want to just migrate data from 2003 to 2008 server(11gR2) windows server(10gR2) and the Server 2003 has no ASM and Server 2008 ASM has. I've got five records in 2003 for example: C, D, E, F, G and each disc contains the specific task for example car C contains ORALCE_HOME, D containd datafiles, H contains Backup etc...

My question is: is it possible to set up similar kind ASM disks in 2008 (of course with the same size) and import the data as it is (I mean the data of the c drive in a single disc, given d ' training in a different disk in the Server 2008 etc...)

I think that it is not possible as ASM manages the storage, but I just want to confirm that.

Thanks in advance...

Why would you store the ORACLE_HOME in ASM?

The use of ASM in this way means defining a system of ASM files that can be used via a file system driver (as a NTFS or FAT32 file system). This is usually done in ASM on clusters for the creation of a cluster filesystem (called ACFS), where each server in the cluster can see the same file system and the same files - access and use the file system at the same time.

Regarding backups - if you use ASM then there is no need a file system. RMAN can back up directly to an ASM diskgroup.

There are also performance factors. ASM automatically stripes data of a diskgroup on all disks in the group. If you set a diskgroup by physical disk, you will not earn any show interleaving. If you have 2 physical disks in a diskgroup, there are now 2 sets of disk controllers for reading and writing, through interlacing. If there are 3 drives in the diskgroup, then 3 sets of disk controllers. This approach scales i/o performance.

ASM support also the 2 and 3 way mirroring (or any mirroring if no redundancy in ASM must be configured).

So if you expect to see improved IO performance and better management and more flexible storage layer, you must look at what ASM provides and how this can be exploited in your environment. Don't look at how you can force your ASM storage, to look exactly like storage using ASM.

If your goal is to make storage in ASM exactly look the same as your current layout - why then bother using ASM?

  • ASM will support Extern and up at the same time?

I'm confused.  If we have a group of redundant San who maintain the ASM disk group and our type is set to Extern, we put our confidence in snapshots, replication, and so on in the hands of the SAN.

Can you have Extern and high?  You can have ASM diskgroup that lies on the SAN but too high?

If you can not, then if you raised, and these starts on the SAN, what's the difference?  Are not often required database on a San with a server on the front-end server?

ASM diskgroup redundancy and redundancy SAN are not the same and work completely different. You cannot use extern ASM and redundancy high at the same time.

A San doesn't know anything about Oracle database files and redundancy is usually accomplished in RAID. ASM is not RAID and does not duplicate complete records. ASM data redundancy is based on failure of disk groups and file extensions. ASM knows by the way of the Oracle database files and automatically adjusts the deletion of data, which does not have a SAN. ASM has also the advantage of the storage size can be adjusted dynamically when the storage is online, without having to rebuild your storage devices. Rebuild or expand a SAN solution based RAID usually means to reset the storage.

Beware of the features of snapshot and SAN replication because they cannot provide full backup or redundancy if you lose the full storage.

    Hi gurus,
I plan to upgrade my Database 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 that is in a CCR on HP - UX environment. OCR, the voting record and ASM are in the RAW file system. I need to take backup of these (OCR, voting disk, ASM). Can you please share how to take backup of these before upgrading?

  • I can drop discs asm online?

    Hi all

I would like to change my diskgroup by adding new disks and the removal of some other old records.
The reason main is that the former created administrator of disks of different sizes and I would like to have all the disks in the same, small size.

I use a single asm diskgroup with external redundancy for everything (OCR, voting, data, archivelog)

I know that I can add the new disks online.
Can I also put online the old records? ASM will automagically migrate extended on the remaining when removing discs disks while the database is still ongoing?
I have not found a clear statemente in the docs.

    Thank you
    Andrea

    Yes - looks very good.

  • How to obtain the crs access ocr vote of asm 11 GR 2

    Hello

11 g R2, we are placing OCR & ASM disks and no support more devices GROSS to VOTE.

Here my question is that how the CRS access OCR & voting records from ASM while CRS start?.
I hope ASM start after the start of CRS. I'm wrong? If Yes, then the CRS start ASM is downstairs and OCR & VOTING records on ASM.

Also ask you all to provide the right guide so that I can learn new 11 GR 2 new features.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

There are 2 simple solutions for this:
records of voting has.) No ASM file, but are found in the headers of records of the ASM disks. This position is directly accessible by Oracle, it is useless to start ASM to access voting records.
    (b) OCR (and ASM spfile btw) is slightly different. These are normal files in ASM and must be accessible before ASM is started. How this is done?
Well the minimum information to start the stack and ASM are kept in a filled called CSR (Oracle repository Local) and traders (grid Plug-and - Play profile).
With these 2 information Oracle may start ASM and then directly access OCR (and ASM Spfile).

PS: The RSC can be maintained using ocrconfig-local

    Hello
It reminds me of a mistake that I've met.
In the addnode.sh script Oracle included cluvfy (-pre nodeadd), who with 11.2.0.2 also a shared device checks.

Unfortunately this check of the aircraft (sometimes) will fail, since shared cluvfy device control does not always work correctly.
A lot of other ppl. here probably already recognized installation 11.2.0.2 often will tell you that the sharedness of devices is not OK. You can ignore the installation, but not for addnode.

So if you are sure, that your devices are shared (which seems OK after your release), you will need to disable the precheck required in the addnode.sh.

    Simply follow these steps:

    Export IGNORE_PREADDNODE_CHECKS = Y

    before calling the addNode.

  • ASM / ME Smart Copy - preventing the backup memory on Linux VM disk?

    Hello

I have a cluster of two servers to Windows Server 2012 Standard edition running Hyper-V, with a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV), who lives on a SAN EqualLogic PS6500E network.  I have configured the EqualLogic HIT / tools ME 4.5 on servers and can perform a regular Smart Copies of a collection consisting of all the virtual machines on the CSV file.  There are eight virtual machines now, of which five are Scientific Linux 6.3 or 6.4, and the other three are different versions of Windows.

When I make a copy of Smart, Windows VMS are aware of the VSS application, they tell their applications to pause a snapshot and fortunately continues to run throughout the active copy.  However, the Linux virtual machines (which are not aware of VSS) this is impossible, so they save their RAM disk and enter a "Saved" State paused.  Each server VM puts its VM Linux sleep one at a time, depending on whether virtual machines are spread on both servers, or focuses on a single server, it ends up taking up to four minutes to perform the entire Smart copy, including recovery of the saved state.

Linux VMS are inaccessible on the network during almost the whole duration.  All SSH connections for these VMs may expire if the TCP Keep Alive packets are used, which is usually the default in most SSH clients.  Even if I disable Keep Alive, the session expires always and firm happens to me trying to type while the window of Smart Copy.

We have people from everywhere in the world connected to the server at a given time, it is so hard to find a better time to perform snapshots that minimize disconnects.  I would prefer not to have to explain to people that they need to disable Keep Alive just for these servers, or for tools like screen to keep a removable session (if it is a wonderful tool).

Is it possible to disable recording of the RAM of the VM disk and the suspension of these virtual machines?  I think that the ASM/VE version has this ability, but I can't find it in ASM / me.

    Thank you!

You have opened a folder with Dell?

For starters I suggest move Linux virtual machines to different volumes CSV and do not include those in ASM / ME snapshots.  You could line them up the table for the moment.

    Kind regards

  • 12 c grid rhel6 iscsi asm Storage Infrastructure

I'm working on the construction of my 12 c Grid Infrastructure database by using the following:

    • RHEL 6.6
      • node rac1
      • node rac2
    • I use Synology NAS storage Oracle Clusterware RAC shared storage.  The following objectives were discovered by node rac1 and rac2. (/ dev/sda/dev/sdb/dev/sdc)
      • LUN/iSCSI shared CRS 10 g
      • LUN/iSCSI shared DATA 400 G
      • LUN/iSCSI shared FRA 400 G

    My question is?

How do these iSCSI disks for ASM 12 c?

Should I format each drive on each node and then oracleasm create discs?

    Please notify.

BECAUSE two-node Oracle 12 c Grid Infrastructure installed on RHEL6

Shared Storage for laboratory: Synology NAS which I created three LUNS/iSCSI devices:

    1 for the CRS

    1 for DATA

    1 for FRA

Each node (initiator) discovered and connect on the objectives, the DATA and FRA

    I then used fdisk/dev/sda and/dev/sdb, / dev/sdc, which created

    / dev/sda1

    / dev/sdb1

    / dev/sdc1

Initialized oracleasm on both RAC nodes and created the CBC records using the oracleasm createdisk CRS/dev/sda1

    Then oracleasm scandisk

    Then oracleasm listdisks

And CBC, DATA and FRA discs seem to be working now.

  • Resync ASM disk in 12 c

    Hello

Please can someone tell what is the difference between ASM resynchronization and consolidation of disk drive?

Are they different? If so, what is re-synchronization happens and when to rebalance?

    Thank you

Fast ASM disk Resync is used to recovery failure a failure to make temporarily unavailable group is considered transient failures.

As the disconnection of the cable, controller failures or interruptions of supply disk or host bus adapter current.

You just put a time (duration) where ASM Diskgroup will be to track all the changes up to recover this failure. If records are retrieved using the last State when, down disc Resync then update all the blocks on the disk recovered from survive failgroup.

If drive failure is not picked up within the window of time, records are automatically removed from the diskgroup.

The process of adding these drive broke diskgroup start the rebalancing process.

Resynchronization occurs when updating the out-of-sync disk track.

Rebalancing occurs when data are not balanced or when to add new disc on diskgroup.

  • Adding a device to ASM disk using asmtool

    Hello

    I create ASM disks.

Background: Oracle enterprise linux 6. I'd partition the shared disks (SCSi) during the installation of Linux (don't know what to do, I just did).

Now if I run oracleasm createdisk, it is said that the devices are busy. No, I removed the mounts of the devices in/etc/fstab. Now createdisk said that "the device is not a partition. Now I use asmtool command instead:

    / usr/sbin/asmtool - c-l/dev/oracleasm n OCRVOTE s/dev/sdc - a force = yes

That works fine, but I need to add more then one device to drive OCRVOTE. If I do

    / usr/sbin/asmtool - c-l/dev/oracleasm n OCRVOTE s/dev/sdd - force = yes

It is said: asmtool: unable to create 'OCRVOTE' ASM disk: file exists

    Hello

You're basically labelling records at the level of the BONE.

    This name must be unique.

You must give the label name different labelling while.

    / usr/sbin/asmtool - c-l/dev/oracleasm - n OCRVOTE1 s/dev/SDS - a force = yes

Then use ASM diskgroup in the future.

    Kind regards

    Loriette
