Hello

What anti-virus software is installed on your computer?

You can reset all folders & restore by default. Subsequently, check if the problem persists:

    Original title: Signature Collision?

I'm having hard to the installation of a second external drive. I use Windows 7 Ultimate RC. There was a WD 1 TB drive My Book already installed - healthy and works very well. The problem occurred after installing a second WD 1 TB my book reader. I followed all the instructions, pluuging the drive to a USB hub. Windows found the disk, installed drivers and reported the new drive ready for use.

Windows Explorer does not see the new drive. Devices and printers shows 2 external drives from WD. Disk Management shows as 2 drives, but the second disk is offline because of a 'Signature' Collision

Each player works very well if it's the only drive plugged in. "Eject My Book" does not work because a program (or more) are to use the player in the background (Windows or Norton).

I installed the latest firmware and I'm still having this problem. I've been emailing WD with this problem and they are running out of ideas.

    Can anyone help?
    Thank you

    Hello Comatose13,

There is an old article of KB in Windows XP that has been recently updated with additional measures to solve this kind of problem. The KB covers Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 with step by step methods. See if that helps.

What you can do is to do a search, right-click on any column heading (for example name, folder, etc.), and then click "Folder path" from the list that appears.  You can also click to turn off the folder.  The next time you're looking for in this area, this column of path of the folder should appear.  You can drag the columns in a different order also.

    Hello Androidipous,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

Scrolling occurs if you double-click the item that you are expanding. If you click on the arrow to the left of the file that you expand the list will stay where it is and lay them down.

The parchment you see Windows Explorer tries to display the full path to the parent records to existing records, but according to the list of the programs/size of the screen, the result can be that the folder is scroll to the bottom.

Hope that helps, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • By double clicking on a file in Windows Explorer it only starts the program it does not open the actual file.

By double clicking on a file in Windows Explorer it only starts the program it does not open the actual file.  1 program, all the others still work ok.

This option is used to work, I installed a viewer of this program option (it's a based CAD program) and after that I uninstalled the viewer that he would not even start the program, he was trying to launch the viewr.  I noticed that the file association was still for the Viewer so I changed it back, but he now throws only program.  Under right click, properties, file Type: it is said the extension only where it used to say the name of the program.

    Thank you

  • Windows Explorer expands inappropriate files, the folder that develop you to the bottom of the jump navigation pane

When you use a left-hand Navigation pane, if there is enough of folders in the navigation pane as you have a vertical scroll bar, if you click on a folder with the mouse (to see supported in the right pane), and then expand the folder (either by clicking on the symbol + or with the arrow key) , then the left pane automatically scrolls upward as far as possible such as the folder you expanded is yet in sight at the bottom of the pane. This command deletes the folder under the mouse, where it should stay.

This is certainly a bug, as it only happens the first time you try to extend a record of the way. After having done it once, you can scroll the navigation (left) pane so that the file in question is back in the middle of the pane, and it will expand and contract as expected, remaining under the mouse.

Because many people seem interested in this question, I'll post some info about my recent contact with Microsoft about this issue.

It seems that everywhere where this issue has been spoken, all someone would get to a Microsoft employee was a response to "Thank you for your comments" mat. Never the validity of the issue has been discussed or even acknowledged. I decided to write an e-mail to the responsible man, Steve Ballmer, clearly the problem with links to a procedure step by step problem, this discussion and report bug with 220 votes (at the time). I realized that Steve would never read himself, but I thought that his email should get automatically transferred to a person who can actually read.
Two days later I received an email from a specialist in defense of Microsoft saying a "case of grace" was created and the escalation of Windows team should get in touch with me. The next day, an engineer of the climbing sent ask when would be the right time to talk about issues on the phone. So it would be quite clear with what I was talking about, I've recorded a screencast walking through that was precisely the problem.
Edit: I made a video more condensed showing the "record jump bug", see here.
This has resulted in our discussions:
    1. engineers are aware of this problem.
    2. they may, or may not provide a fix for it.
Nothing revolutionary, but it's a little more push in the right direction. In my opinion, post in this thread on the problem has practically no value. I suggest you:
1 vote upward and commenting on the bug here:
He said that the site is being monitored by the dev team.
    2. writing intelligent and without rudeness complaints that mention how the bug affects negatively your workflow file management every day. Send these to the top of the food chain of Microsoft until you get an answer. You are a paying customer and you deserve to be heard.
I'm tired of dealing with him, so now use XYplorer when you perform heavy file management. It stings to have to pay for a decent file manager, but that's life. If this question bothers you at all, please comment and vote on the bugand write an email.
13/09/11 PATCH: Bug is still present in Windows 8 Developer Preview, see here.
01/30/12 UPDATE: Finally, we have a public recognition that this is actually a bug that needs to be addressed, and it will be apparently fixed in Windows 8 beta coming. It's good news, but I know I'll use Win7 for at least a year or two, as will be much, much more. We deserve a patch for this problem in Win7. Until that happens, keep Microsoft listening to this topic.
FINAL THOUGHTS: It is a real bug with 645
! votes on their feedback page, however MS didn't intend to fix for Windows 7 users. The bug is fixed in Windows 8, which means nothing to many of us who do not intend to upgrade. If this bug really gets under the skin, I suggest to install the classic interface, which has been recommended several times in this thread. You can choose to install only the feature "Classic Explorer" which corrects this bug among others and even remember the old UI for copy of file which is so nice to have in return. I used it for many months now without worries.
In addition, for those of you who think that they find a solution to this problem by changing just a few parameters options somewhere... Thank you for your desire to help each of us, but you do not have the same problem and please do not post here your 'solution '. If you read some of the 29 pages of this thread, you will see that all the imaginable solutions has been suggested. There is a bug in the browser itself. If you are using Windows 7 and plan to continue using it, your options are 1) use the classic interface, or 2) use a third-party files, such as XYplorermanagement tool. If you stumble across this thread because you noticed this bug, please vote for the bugand make 1 or 2.
  • Windows Explorer memory increases during the night

    Hi all

I had a problem with Explorer windows for 3-4 weeks.  I don't have any problems during the day when I am on my PC, but the problem starts in the night (at any time after 01:00). Particularly explorer.exe in my task manager would eat more than 250 MB! While this may not seem catastrophic in terms of severity, 250 MBs is still a lot of memory, a task must use. In the morning that exploring is more than 250 MB, I try to open the files .doc, .xls files, IE 7 browser windows just to see if the RAM would be released. However explore is constantly using over 250 MB. The only way to solve this (very inefficient way) is by typing ctrl-alt-del, ending explorer.exe, then 'restart' Explorer by clicking on "New task" in the Task Manager and typing explorer.exe. This works that explorer.exe loads again with the memory of charges and remains around 20-35 MBs all day (after 01:00 again!).

I tried troubleshooting with respect to viruses, malware, Trojans and rootkits, by contacting my AV tech. I am using Trend Micro Titanium + and the tech support agent told me to do these tests:

    (1) run Malwarebytes and do a scan complete (the scan came out clean)
    (2) run Trend Micro Housecall (the scan came out clean)
    (3) run Trend Micro HiJackthis and send in the analysis logs (agent tech analyzed newspapers and answered in 2 days and stressed that there is nothing to 'dangerous' to worry)
    (4) tool of SIC (system information Collector) and see if there are any 'suspects' process slows down explore dope

After the end of step 4, the agent tech told me there was nothing really at their end, they could do (all troubleshooting tools mentioned in steps 2-4 out literally own and didn't report any malware or suspicious processes) and recommended to contact Microsoft.

So now I'm here and want to find a way around this problem! Again the main issue is that every night (after 01:00) of explorer.exe in Task Manager uses over 250 MB of memory. This product every day when I leave the pc for the night and I discovered that explorer.exe use over 250 MB in the morning. Also here are my pc specs:

    -Pentium D 3.2 Ghz
    -2 GB OF RAM
    -Nvidia Geforce GT 430 graphics
-XP Pro with SP3 and latest windows updates (as of June 16/11)

I'm not an expert in their use, but I think you should be able to get to the bottom of this help Process Explorer and/or Process Monitor.  If you find it difficult to know how to use these tools, see the Forums of Sysinternals.

  • HP Pavilion Elite HPE: Windows Explorer can't see the folders/files

My computer seems to have nuts. I have several times & suddenly (in minutes) began to receive messages "Windows Explorer is not responding", with choices such as "search solution and restart the program", "stop program", "wait." Also, it happened several times for Firefox.

Right click on a folder on the desktop will block. In fact, who seemed to start the problem. I wanted to do a right-click & Delete a folder on the desktop.

Can I use desktop shortcuts & open Office files, but I can't see the contents of the C drive, etc. Looks like it is filling when I click on "Computer", which will display all of the subfolders... a green bar moved from left to right at the top for more than an hour, but still no folders/files are displayed.

It is now after midnight. I'll leave it as; non-stop. If all goes well, he rebuilds "pointers" or other & will be done by morning.

    Your computer is clean.

  • Question from Windows Explorer/view - images from the image file can be displayed instead of simply as an icon?

Under Windows Explorer/view when I click on a folder of images I got a list of icons with jpg file name. It is difficult to imagine what is in the photo with DSC0526, or IMG7322, or NB67388. I thought that it would be much more convenient if images are displayed instead of simply as an icon. Is there a way to do this?

  • How to get Windows Explorer to pin to the taskbar

    Problem:

When I right click on Windows Explorer to get pinned and there is no element entrance does forr it pin to the taskbar OR the StartMenu , like most of the other applications in the my system.

I was able to do on my system to my office, so I know that this is possible.  I got it made the pinned the system now have the problem, that is up to the Microsoft has eliminated the last fixes on Saturday 21 September 12 game that wacked my entire task bar, bar side and scrogged many other aspects of my system!

I really hope that they actually only has finally fixed the leak of security IE forever with this patch as they promised and not just Fubar-ing of many systems to give the appearance of shutter makes the run with more than one finger! (but that too can depend on which finger gets referenced as I can think that a my system seems to have understood).

That being said, let's start by skipping the usual diatribe of suggestions of neophytes who Parrot just what is on both boards, blogs and other forums with what I remember, try to address my situation:

    • I tried to drag links "Windows Explorer" and shortened to Windows Explorer to get the fallen on the toolbar.  No go!
    • I tried all the suggestions of registry to Windows Explorer PIN to the taskbar. No go!
    • I searched the registry for any key with PIN or NOPIN on their behalf and found Nothing. Although the PIN search revealed several keys and values with pin drowned in (e.g.ping stri"," myPINing "", Snapine","OfficeVBAHelpinetlHiddenIntl_1033", nausea etc. to height of 3114 hits ad).

But know the FUBAR occurred, does anyone have the best ideas on how to fix the problem with Windows Explorer so that I can once again pin it to my task bar and maybe my StartMenu too?

Use search programs and files "windows explorer". When you right click on the link that there it will give you options to pin the taskbar icon or the start menu.

  • [SOLVED] Optical drive empty missing in Windows Explorer, but not in the folder of the computer or Device Manager. Windows 7 x 64 HP Pavilion dv6-3032tx

The problem: the optical drive [cd/dvd burner] icon is missing in Windows Explorer when no media inserted in the drive. Even if the optical drive icon in Windows Explorer when a disc is inserted in the drive.

However, the optical drive appears in 'Device Manager' and in 'Computer' folder or no media is inserted in the reader as to the latter.  This doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.  It is a Windows 7 problem [or character?], which seems to be set [or omitted] in Windows 8.

Here are the step by step process to solve this problem:

    1. open Windows Explorer [click on "Start" and type "Windows Explorer" in the search box, then click on the first result to the Summit, which is "Windows Explorer"]
    2. in Windows Explorer, click on "Organize" (top left of the window).
    3. in the click from the drop-down list 'folder and search options '.
    4. at the bottom of the window that comes up, under the "Navigation" tick to choose 'show all files '.

I need to do this every time I have to reinstall Windows 7 x 64 Home Premium on my HP Pavilion dv6-3032tx laptop.

I hope this helps someone. Wellness wish all

  • I get the error of Windows Explorer tries to use the Control Panel Applets

Whenever I have open Control Panel, and then select an applet (Folder Options), I get an error for Windows Explorer and everything is frozen until I have completed the task with the Task Manager.  I am running XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.  Have passed through each .cpl file by placing each of them, one at a time in a temporary folder and then try the control panel again.  I always have the error and cannot detect what applet file could be causing it.  Any help is appreciated.

You must run a full on your antivirus scan, until the Trojan horse is completely removed.

Try to access the folder in this way options:

Start > my computer > in the top menu, click Tools > choose folder at the bottom of the menu options.

Also run the eset online scanner on.

Once the infection has been cleared, you should be able to go into folder options without freezing the pc.

If you were able to enter the folder through the above method options and let us know if the Trojan horse has been completely deleted.

I have this problem on my own XP machines and have seen several times on client computers. I think it's one that Microsoft will have to work, because I can not find a solution.  It seems to be the installation of third party software that does this, because a stock installation of XP with all updates to this day doesn't seem to have this problem.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RESTART WINDOWS TO RECOVER FROM THIS.

If Explorer crashes and your icons and the taskbar disappear, the solution is simply to wait for Explorer itself to begin again, or issue a ctrl-alt-delete, start Task Manager, click on file-> new task (run)-> and then enter "Explorer" (without the quotes) and click 'OK '. The icons and the taskbar will be back and XP will then operate normally.

If some of the icons in the system tray are missing after Explorer restarts, you can quickly sign out and then sign back in to fix this problem, after you saved all work and close programs. The programs represented by missing icons are, in this case, which is still running, so it's only a cosmetic problem.

Until Microsoft or someone else found a real solution, you may need to reinstall XP to resolve this problem. Not knowing the real cause, this problem could happen again. Not all facilities have this problem, or is it all the time.

  • Windows Explorer does not display the ogg metadata

I ripped my CD to OGG (Vorbis) files and the appropriate metadata are included with them (or at least appear in Winamp and iTunes).

But in Windows Explorer, when I look at a list detailed files, the news of the album/artist/etc do not show, the fields are all empty. When right-clicking on the file and selecting 'Properties', it only shows the details of the file (such as the path of folder, update) but has no field at all (not even empty fields) for info related to music.

How can I get these similar areas such as ID3v2 tags for MP3 files, to display OGG Vorbis files?

    Thank you.

    Hi Suzuki650,

Unfortunately, he has no such functionality present in windows to display the ogg metadata, you must have any third-party program to make this option on your computer, to do that you need to use your favorite search engine and search the Internet for the third-party program that integrates this feature.
