recovery - BOOTMGR is compressed

Windows xp advent4211c netbook guard reporting BOOTMGR is compressed said cont alt delete to restart but keeps going back to the startup message.

I guess that this Netbook is not a CD player.  You have an external CD drive AND a real Windows XP installation CD (I guess that the answer is no).

You need start your Netbook to a bootable USB device that has the Windows XP Recovery Console is installed.

There are a number of sites that explain how to make a USB bootable with the Recovery Console drive.  And here's one: http://tuts4tech.net/2009/07/14/creating-a-usb-bootable-xp-recovery-console/

Start the USB key that you created.  You might be able to do by pressing a combination of keys during the boot process, or you may have to go into your BIOS and set the boot order to boot from USB first.

The Recovery Console should open.  At the command prompt, type

Fixboot {press Enter}

Confirm if necessary.  Remove the USB and restart.  You should be OK now.

Oh... and in the future, do NOT select 'compress files to save space.

What, exactly, is the model of your computer?  The operating system you have on it?  Have you created the recovery HP media or you have the drive of the Windows operating system?

Let know us and we will move on to the next step.  It is a relatively easy problem to solve.

  • BOOTMGR is compressed. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart__But when I do the same message appears and now my netbook won't start.

I'm not a computer whizz and now I fear I can have made a big mistake when I thought I was doing something safe.

So here's the story, I wanted to do a little more space on my drive hard because I don't have but a small memory netbook. After the usual cleaning disc and other things, I also saw a tick box option to compress all the files and folders on the c: / drive. I checked this box and everything was fine until I stop and it works even today.

As soon as the first image - the HP logo disappears (with instructions following key below '= change Boot Device Order' and '= ' configuration Options of the BIOS) I get a black screen with the following script in the upper right:

"BOOTMGR is compressed"... and below, «press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart»

However, when I do restart, nothing chages and I come back to the same message over and over. I think its pretty obvious that my 'sting' autour potentially screwed up things good and clean and I would be very grateful if someone knows how to solve my problem and what to do. I tried to study the question, already and so far, I think I might have to reinstall windows, but when I bought this netbook, windows has been installed for me so I did not drive. I don't even have a hard drive anyway. I also read on the windows troubleshooting pages who put the pressing F8 repeatedly until 'start it again from the last record in the point' etc options but it did not work either... unless I'm doing it wrong.

I hope I gave enough information above so that someone is able to help. Thank you for your time and I'll look forward all the answers and I hope that the answer.

This is a popular problem with computers HP they have written an article about this (in other words, what happens often):

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&DocName=c01872275

Compression is not a bad thing, but in the world where the disk storage is cheap usually not worth - you just buy more storage or maintenance disk Dome (remove things).  Compression can actually slow down the performance of your system too.  I think it's just sort of a vestige of the old days and can have negative consequences today.

Using the HP article, you can repair your system in seconds after getting into the Recovery Console.

There is a similar problem with systems not HP where the ntldr file may get compressed and solve it is a little different, but the concept is the same and only takes a few seconds to fix.

You will not engage in any kind of Mode safe either.

Enter the Recovery Console may be the biggest challenge.

You have a genuine XP bootable installation CD?  This is not the same as any type of System Recovery CD which might come with your system.  If you do not, you will need to make a bootable CD from Recovery Console by using a system of work - or physically move your HARD drive to a system that works, repair and put back.

Your system model number not specified there a CD player?

  • BOOTMGR is compressed message when you try to start.

It\ compressed accidentally; drive on my netbook of 2nd hand and now I just get BOOTMGR is compressed press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart. Computer does not reboot to windows, and I can't do anything with the netbook. Do not have a recovery option, or know how to the recovery computer, do not have external drive put here in a recovery disk, really desperate. Any help much appreciated thanks.

    Hi DebbieClarke,

If it is a second hand computer, you must purchase a recovery from the seller and pure media set up the computer.  Otherwise, you may have unwanted items on the computer for which you are not yet aware.

Thank you very much for reading my long problems and thanks in advance for any help, anyone can give me...

    Original title: Hello World!

    Hello

    Try the following steps:

When the system file bootmgr is compressed, it can not be used. Windows is not able to boot without loading the non compressed version of this file. If you receive an error message that the BOOTMGR is compressed press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart, reset the boot sector of Windows since the installation of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.

To do this, follow these steps.

    a. load the operating system Microsoft Windows XP CD/DVD into the optical disk drive. Follow the on-screen instructions by pressing any key to boot from the CD-ROM.
    b. go to the XP Recovery Console and select command prompt.
    c. Type fixboot and press the o button to select.
    d. Type exit to exit the command prompt and restart the computer.

After the system restarts, the error message should not appear, and the problem should be solved.

  • BOOTMGR is compressed message

Drive c is compressed to save space now windows usually run with the message 'bootmgr' compressed. Run consol of recovery that it asked for admin password, and custom declines no entry even if no password is set.

If your problem is still not resolved, here is an explanation.

    BOOTMGR is compressed
CTRL + Alt + Delete to restart

This problem is caused by a right click "Properties" and check "Compress this drive to save disk space" is ticked Yes.

How to fix: you need the original Windows Installation disc (I recommend no piracy) or if you have created a Windows restore disk for your operating system. You can fix this with the tool to RESTART SYSTEM. I've never heard of any 3rd Party program that can solve this problem. But once you enter the Startup Repair tool, you can let his 'magic' and its all fixed :D

Try to start with a utility cd to remove partitions, create 1 partition & format hard drive. I had good results with the free Partition Wizard. Download the iso CD Bootable here . Download ImgBurn here to burn the image to a cd.

  • BOOTMGR is compressed and I don't have the cd

My bootmgr is compressed and I don't have the cd

As the forums MS Answers does not prompt for any information system when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Making effective diagnosis difficult.

You do not have a CD - Microsoft support engineers seem to think that everything requires a XP CD and this is not the case.

Are you sure that you are running Windows XP (you are in XP forums).

How do you that compressed the bootmgr file obtained in the first place?

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Your system have IDE or SATA disks?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

What you see you don't think you need to see?

What do not you think that you should see?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  • "bootmgr is compressed" error, impossible to decompress bootmgr

When you configure the compression on the drive C of a netbook, I compressed the bootmgr file accidentally. Now, xp cannot start. I don't have any DVD of windows and linux doesn't seem to be able to decompress the file. There are utilities to start that can decompress a ntfs file system without windows?

Workaround. IIRC using Linux, I could copy the bootmgr file to a flash drive, copied to a windows system, disabled the setting of decompression, copied the file in flash and then it copied on the netbook to the ground.

Although I do not have the feeling that the file to the Flash of adaptation and all that is necessary is back.
