    Hi all

I have a NetApp2040 with 8 (3 reserved for the root of aggr0) 300 GB internal drives and 1 shelf DS14 MK2 to tie with 14 hard drives of 250 GB. I have 2 5.1 vSphere hosts. What would be the best way to "split" the storage for servers? A combined, the two hosts can access via iSCSI or more than one aggregate? I have not a NFS for the NetApp for iSCSI license is my method of connection. All suggestions welcome. Thank you.

I'd be inclined to agree with vmroyale - I prefer an aggr to avoid extra parity and disk dparity losses. As long as your OnTAP argues that many discs (I don't remember 7.34 and older max/min values).

  • NFS, Ghost, connection problem but do not?

I'm trying to configure vmware HA 4.1 and NFS.

The hosts are in an HA configuration and I am trying to present the first NFS host.

Under configuration-> storage I added that the point mounting NFS. It appears in the list of data stores, but it fails in these last tasks with a time-out error.

I update the list of data store and a second NFS mount point appears with (1) in the name. Every time I update, I get another NFS mount point.

I tried to restart the service (service nfs / sbin /...), but a part that fails. Tried to stop the nfs service and a failure of bunch (maybe stop working?), try to start and it takes forever to start NFS daemon. State indicates the nfsd ceased after.

    What I am doing wrong?

Also, is there a particular order to add the NFS mounts to an HA configuration?

    See http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004439

Your NFS server (in my case a NetApp FAS2040) can be save in the DNS system with more than 1 IP address for the name NFS.

NSLOOKUP hostname must only report 1 IP address for the name used in the NFS data store or VCenter merges.

I'm still trying to understand how to prevent the creation of more of an IP address for the DNS the NetApp entry, but I'm pretty sure that will solve the problem.

Of course, you can just put the IP address in VCenter, but I prefer to use DNS names.

  • Reference Dell S5000 and OTF 9.0 (1.3)

I have to configure a S5000 with 9.0 (1.3) of the OTF to connect two R710 with FC HBA and two MD8020F.
After reading a lot, I find myself really lost because I can't create areas with this version of the software or anything. OTF 9.0 (1.3) only have 'feature fc' and orders for FCoE.
I do not have a Force10 account so I can't upgrade the firmware (or read about the upgrade).
So my question is: if I only need to use CF not FCoE, with 'functionality fc' enough? I have some areas in this version?

    See you soon

I apologize to this matter, I got this erroneous information. You're right, it looks like there must be a current zone.

  • Public IP address used internally on RV220W

    Hello

I've finally set up our RV220W to serve our network of offices, using the following environment:

WAN is set for a public IP (static configuration), while internal network consists of two VLANS.

VLAN 1 is connected to the cable network and a SSID wireless, where DHCP is served by our server Windows SBS (192.168.15.x), and this VLAN is used only for our own office. VLAN 2 is connected to a second SSID wireless, where DHCP is served by the RV220W himself (192.168.17.x) and this VLAN is used for guests and visitors to our office.

On a regular basis, we need to use a mobile device to access a test page of a development server on VLAN 1, and the router is configured to redirect the connections on a specific port on the public IP address to our development server.

For VLAN 1, I solved this by substituting the DNS for the host name of this test page to use the local IP address of the development server.

However, for VLAN 2, there is no way to access this test page.

Is there a way I can configure the router to redirect connections, either replace the internal DNS for the test on the development server page is also accessible from 2 VLAN (network comments/visitor)?

    Thanks for any help.

  • ASA and scenario VCS

    Hello

This is the last problem I have to solve. I would be very happy if you could help me with this one too

So-1 is the scenario I have, but in this scenario, I should have an ASA before the end point and make a VPN tunnel betwenn the two networks so that the endpoint can enroll in the VCS. My question is: Let's look at scenario 2 I can do a port forwarding on the ASA so that when the endpoint is trying to register and connect to the VCS on the IP 213.133.144.155 of the SAA sends to the VCS. This scenario is possible, or am I dreaming thanks!

    Svetoslav cordially

    Hello

Scenario 2 should work just fine. However, to be able to use NAT to redirect connections to VCS, you need VCS Expressway with the external address (213.133.144.155) configured in the VCSe as address NAT, otherwise, VCS do recognize not the external address of NAT which will be placed in the headers H323 and SIP, as well as communication will not work correctly. Is another option (not recommended), you can have work by activating the features of SIP and H323 control/ALG on the firewall, so that the firewall will be 'NAT' ip address in the SIP and H323 headers, however, it works well in many cases. Then the best solution is to leave the ' NAT ' to only VCS Expressway. That's what Cisco is recommended.

Be aware that, in order to configure NAT on the VCS address, you must have a VCS highway with option key 'Double nic' installed, this key allows double interface and configuring NAT as well.

In addition, when configuring NAT in the firewall, I recommend you configure the NAT 1 to 1 instead of using an IP address that is shared with port forwarding. However, you can get port forwarding works as well, even if it's not the most recommended delpoyment, once you can have a conflict with another applications, because VCS use of many and different port numbers.

Therefore, to achieve your option 2, I recommend to use the VCS Expressway with double nic option key activated and configuring NAT 1 to 1 on the firewall.

    I hope this helps.

  • Balancing problem

    Hello.

I configured the cluster unicast and WKA. Also - I start proxy services 3 raised on 3 different nodes. On the client, I say as a remote proxy only 1 address, because in written documents of coherence that all proxy in the cluster services know each other. But when I send you the extend customer request - I see, this request is that the proxy node, which I specified in the client. Do I need additional configuration for load balancing between these proxy servers?

    Hello

Unless the public IP addresses are local times for proxies, they will be unaware of their and so cannot automatically redirect connections from their.  You have a few options:

    -disable the internal load balancer

    -provide a load balancer plugin

-Use an external load balancer (and disable the internal)

The first two options are configured in your proxy-system/load-balance of cache configuration element.  You can set it to 'customer' to disable load balancing in which case your customers must be configured with a list of proxies to choose, and these can be public IP addresses.  If you write your own program to load balancing you implement the com.tangosol.net.proxy.ProxyServiceLoadBalancer interface and enabled by setting the proxy-system/load-balance as follows:

    package. MyProxyServiceLoadBalancer

GetMemberList of the restrict method returns a list and you can return the com.tangosol.net.proxy.RemoteMember instance to return the corresponding public IPs.  Write your own program to load balancing can seem a little daunting, but realistically, this could be as simple as returning a trial randomized or alternated according to list public IP addresses.

See https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18686_01/coh.37/e18678/gs_configextend.htm#COHCG5165 for more details on the above.

  • VMWare Oracle network question

We currently have an Oracle server, that has a connection LACP on 4 network cards to 1 GB for a netapp FAS2040.   Unfortunately it is a failure then we will create a virtual machine.  We have it online right now, but I have a question.  VMWare server has 4 1 GB NICs to shared resources on a single VMXNET 3 NIC will be able to push as much traffic that may 4 NICs trunked?  Or do I need to create a similar configuration?  Has anyone else made something like that?

    Thanks in advance.

Vmxnet3 supports up to 10 Gb/sec transfer rate. So you can have your uplinks on LACP certainly and present 1 virtual nic VMXNET3 virtual machine speeds, even if your bottleneck will most likely be that you'RE Ops / s disc.

  • More question of 2 TB LUN.

Currently I have a NetApp FAS2040A connected through HBA. I created the LUN 8TB on the device and introduced him to ESXi, but the ESXi has a limit on the VMFS 2 TB. I need to present a LUN to VM 8TB runs a Win 2008 R2. What is the best way to do it without losing too much performance and risk data loss. Some of the ideas of mine are as follows:

    (1) create a LUN VMFS TB of 4 x 2 and use the dynamic disk in Windows to create a partition of 8 TB

    (2) 2 TB LUN to create and use extensions ESXi to bring this volume to 8TB

    (3) a licence to CIFS and create the 8TB on the device

I'm new to the ESXi fearly please bare with me. I'm looking for the best suggestions or the ups and downs on the above scenarios.

    Thank you for your help.

Even if you create a store of data from more than 2 TB virtual disks are always limited to 2 TB.  If you need to present 8TB to the VM, then your best option would be to configure the computer virtual to connect directly to the 8TB LUN using the MS iSCSI initiator software.

  • iSCSI in a virtual machine?

We have a physical server environment using iscsi to connect to our NetApp FAS2040. Then we have a VMware ESX environment that uses the same NetApp NFS for data stores.

We are a transition of data from a physical server to a virtual (the two Windows 2008) computer.  The servers are not changing, just move data from a (physical) server to a virtual computer.  Currently, the data resides on a LUN via iscsi.

Could we just use iscsi in Windows 2008 VM to mount the same volume?

Or a better method would be to move the data to an independent vmdk residing on NFS data warehouses?

This is not a database or a high level of requirement of IO.  Just flat files mainly for archival purposes.

The easiest way will share in the virtual machine which would be enough simple.

The opposite would be present to all guests, and then create a RDM (raw disk mapping) to this particular virtual machine.

If you made a lot of vmware for VADP backup snapshot and etc., option 2 would be preferable.

  • How to install a ViewConnectionServer 4.0?

I'm about to install the virtual desktop to my VMWare Environment Manager.

I downloaded a version of vmware view track.

This boundle contains viewconnectionserver 4.0, viewclient 4.0 and 4.0 viewagent. What are the packages that I have to install on the login server?

What is the need and the use of viewagent 4.0 and 4.0 viewclient?

1 - discover the connection to the server. It is the software that acts as an agent of connection and redirects connections to the virtual machines. This is the software that is required to connect to the server.

2 - display Client. This is the software that allows you to connect to the agent to connect. This is usually installed on the user's PC. (thinking that it is the front-end server)

3 - find out the Agent. This is required on each virtual machine that will be accessed using the last 2 pieces (1 and 2). It usually goes on a model

A remote listener is a listener that reside on a computer who redirects connections to an instance of database on another computer. Remote listeners are generally used in an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) environment. You can configure remote recording listeners, as Oracle RAC, for dedicated or shared server environments.

  • Virtual machines on NFS data warehouses freeze when snapshots are deleted

I'm running 3 ESXi 4.1 update 1 guest (essentials more license) with shared storage on a NetApp FAS2040 accessible via NFS. 5.2 PHD virtual is deployed for backups. Each time the backup is completed on a virtual machine and the snapshot is removed, the virtual machine in question freezes completely (not yet responding to pings) for 10 to 30 seconds. The issue is documented in the following VMware article:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1031106

However, while the article claims that the problem has been resolved in a fix, I persist it despite running on the last level of patch (build 433742). Is that all that I should have done after installing the latest patch? If the issue is not yet fixed, is there one solution other than to switch to iSCSI?

According to Ko, the patch is ESXi 4.1 patch ESXi410-201104402-BG contains vmware-tools. One thing to try is maybe upgrade your vmware tools in the virtual machine? (I don't know if you have upgraded)

  • Physical server VM disaster recovery

    Hello

Today, I meet some customers who would ask the site of recovery after a disaster. They would like to use all physical servers to the recovering site.

Here's the scenario. In the production site, they will have 3 host to ESXi 4.1, with BL460G6 (the Server Blade HP), 2 Proc Intel X 5600 series, 48 GB RAM. Storage use is NetApp with iSCSI (NETAPP FAS2040) options.

All their (converted from physical) virtual computers will consume about 4.2 TB, for most of the Linux server, multiple windows, according to. The growth of data every day is 1.6 GB. They will invest the same storage (FAS2040) on the site of DRC. Will of replication occurs every 15 minutes. They had a very good bandwidth

Now they're using the standard replication method, they transfer file to the DRC to their server (Linux, replication, automated with script-based) and until now its works very well.

Because they will migrate to Virtual Server, after all migration, they all want their server used in the DRC Site. My point is to know how to do it. Pouvez VMware replicated on the physical server? They will not invest more than license VMware or upgrading their equipment. They want to use the server as is.

I thought to use RDM, create a LUN, attached to the virtual machine with the physical/virtual compatibility, then use the NetApp replication method to replicate the DRC site. Then, in the DRC, all the physical server mapped to the same LUN. Restoration, then, just reverse the replication. But then, the implementation will be difficult, because each server has a specific LUN (it had more 20 + server).

    A guy had an idea?

    Thanks for your help.

From what I understand so far, they virtualized or not their systems and virtual machine files are stored on NetApp storage synced to the DRS!

In this case, with the environment of virtualization (VMware Essentials) in place at the DRS, they would have only to add the virtual machine to inventory and them lights disaster on the production side. This doesn't mean no reconfiguration of drivers (for the merger to the physical hardware), up to date systems (synchronizes every 15 min.) and very little time to have the environment running on the DRS.

The advantage of the Essentials package on the free version is management, which equals the production site and the possibility of use for example, backup software, which usually requires a licensed version.
