(Redirected) Question about backup and by default

Asked me to back up my data system so that Dell Technical Support Engineer (Harry) to do a restore from my PC to the factory default. Other less intrusive methods that he tried to engineer were not enough to solve my problems. This gives, I have a technical question. Can I use the Dell system programs and backup data on a USB hard drive? I guess the answer is Yes, however, my concern is that if the PC is returned to the factory, probably a copy of the restore process image, then, if I'm running Dell system programs and restore data Back-Up, this process could put the files corrupt system which caused problems and we're back where we started? Please advise on how this backup process should be done. I've always backed up my data, but never had to go through this process.

Hi Rayk18,

Please repost this in the forum Microsoft OS for faster assistance. Please post if you have a laptop or desktop computer and the operating system, like Windows Vista, 7, or 8.

I am pretty green with RMAN and need happen to a backup process that fits within my environment who are:

    (1) disc can hold the PLUS 1 full backup and the value of the day of archive logs
    (2) tape can hold up to 30 days of archive logs and backup complete for the whole duration so
    (3) our tape backup solution don't play nice with RMAN so the method we use is THAT RMAN writes to disk and our copies of backup tape from a location on the tape drive.

What I want to do is trick recovery catalog thinking 30 days ago or more games of backup to disk, while having only a day on the drive actually. Is this a smart move, or can I keep the catalog of recovery in harmony with what is on the disk (so keep backups on disk only in the catalog) and if I need to come back in 2 days or more in the past, re-Catalog backup sets restored a strip (if that is even possible)?

    Thank you

I also have a similar setup at my end taking the RMAN backups on drives and back up tapes. But in my case, I supported the RETENTION POLICY to REDUNDANCY 2. So full backup which is more than 2 copies is removed.

In your case, as you said, you have 2 options:
    1. simply delete the backups on disks (as they were already saved to tapes) and a full backup. Here, you will not run an OVERLAP as well as no. invalidate the old backups in the catalogue, or recovery

    2. maintain RESTRAINT POLICY to REDUNDANCY 1, whereby your recovery catalog has accurate status on the backup information. In this case, you must keep the AUTOMATIC backup with your full backups in the bands. If you lose you will have troubles recoveing the backup of this day.

In my opinion the 2nd option is preferable, although you have to recataloguer to use it. I tested how recovery with this situation on my blog at: http://oracleendeavor.blogspot.com/2010/02/disaster-recovery-using-rman-backups.html

  • OCP - questions about documents and hands on training

    Hello

I plan for certification OCP (track 10g) and have two or three questions. I tried looking for answers on google, but did not find anything relevant that I want to ask. Here are my questions:

    (1) for the OCA, they have added a review more which can be given at home. My question is if there is no sequence that we must first give the SQL examination and only then can we give Oracle database 10g: Administration 1 exam (exam 1Z0-042)? Can we give these two reviews in order any?

    (2) my second question is related to the requirement of hands on training. Is - this mandatory? Can it be replaced by any like Linux fundamentals certificate examination examination?

    (3) my third question is still linked to the training. If it is mandatory, then what is the economical way to obtain this training? I live in San Jose, CA (USA) and resembles the OCP training class is thousands of dollars. Is there a replacement for this training?

    (4) in addition, if it is absolutely necessary to follow a training, I can take "Oracle Database 10 g: Managing Oracle on Linux for DBAS" training for satisfy this requirement?

  • Question about backup

When you back up data to the internet, it works both ways?  Transfer you the new data from your phone to the internet AND transfer new data about your accounts on the internet on your phone?

The word "backup" makes it sound like the phone data on the internet.  IDK how to explain it better.

You think of two different (but similar) things... Backup and synergy.

Backup is the ability of the phone to automatically save certain data and settings that resides on the phone, to your Palm profile.  This would include contacts, for example, that have been created in the phone compared to another Palm profile account count as Google.  This article explains what is backed up during the backup process in webOS.

Synergy is the ability to perform two-way synchronization between your phone and various internet accounts.  Data such as calendar and contacts that you enter on your phone using one of your accounts on the internet (like Google) are synchronized between the phone and the account... and the data that you enter directly into one of these accounts online are also synchronized.  So in this sense, the data you enter on the phone using an online account are "supported" this account online.  But generally, I think the term "Backup" will see the data that is stored on the Palm profile.

    Hope that helps.

  • Windows 7 starts questions about mac and office 2010 following an installation

It's a long cut as short as vent. I've been miss sold a record of upgrade of windows 8 full disk-shaped, with norton and office 2010. My goal of creating windows on my mac for a course I'm taking. After that know I need windows 7, I bought it online. I created a partition of 80g on my mac charge windows 7, then norton. Until I loaded the office that I was invited to perform the update from apple in the windows software 7. Note before I installed norton, I load boot camp mac utilities according to the instructions. So, followed by all as should be. The prompt update from apple was quick time, iTunes and airport, I checked all and then updated. Then I loaded office 2010 and obtained throughout the process from the Microsoft site. On the last part of the installation, the installation failed due to a mistake of hanging iTunes. I tried again and again, I fixed the update to iTunes to add and remove the section of windows. Then, I got different errors. I decided to remove the whole score without uninstalling all programs again. When I get to the windows live, that this falls priming. I get various error messages whenever I try to start the process. As a header of Bank pool, fatal error and so on. Can anyone help? What is the damage?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Because the question is limited to Windows 7 on your Mac with Boot Camp, I suggest you contact Apple Boot Camp support for assistance.

  • question about redundancy and failover from one site to tunnel

First, I create the underside of crypto card,

crypto IPSec_map 10 card matches the address encrypt-acl
    card crypto IPSec_map 10 set peer 209.165.201.1

card crypto IPSec_map 10 the transform-set RIGHT value

    card crypto IPSec_map 10 the value reverse-road

Then I set up a 2nd card statement, corresponding to the same ACL.

crypto IPSec_map 20 card matches the address encrypt-acl
    card crypto IPSec_map 20 set peer 23.10.10.10

    card crypto IPSec_map 20 set transform-set RIGHT

    card crypto IPSec_map 20 set reverse-road

My first question is - since Cryptography cards are processed in order, does that mean the first tunnel VPN (map 10) will always be used if its place?

If so, what happens when the 209.165.201.1 remote peer becomes unreachable? is the tunnel of the 23.10.10.10 peer back automatically?

What is the best way to reach a VPN site-to-site main and secondary where 209.165.201.1 primary school and 23.10.10.10 is backup and appears only when the primary is down?

    Thank you

    Hello

As you mentioned that the Cryptography cards are processed in the order.

If two cryptographic cards have the same "interesting" traffic then the second card encryption is never used (first crypto card is used).

The best way to get a redundancy is to do the following:

crypto IPSec_map 10 card matches the address encrypt-acl
    card crypto IPSec_map 10 set peer 209.165.201.1 23.10.10.10

card crypto IPSec_map 10 the transform-set RIGHT value

    card crypto IPSec_map 10 the value reverse-road

Note in the example above that you have defined an instance unique card crypto with two counterparts. The first pair will try first and if not answered, the second peer will be used as a backup.

    It will be useful.

    Federico.

  • Question about VCB and VMWare vSphere 4 Essentials

    Hello

We have 2 virtual servers: one with ESXi35 (that has VMWare infrastructure Client 2.5) and the other with ESXi4 (which a vSphere Client 4). There is an offer to purchase of VMWare vSphere 4 Essentials to half the regular price and I wanted to know if this product allows me to backup (and possibly restore) virtual machines using VCB scripts.

    Thank you very much

    Concerning

    Carlos Negroni

From this link, http://store.vmware.com/store/vmware/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.126843700 , it includes VCB so the answer to your question is Yes.  I remember got an e-mail that VCB is now end of life so that it is no longer that probably not available in the next version of ESX.

  • Question about snapshots and virtual machines

    Hi all

I have a small question about snapshots. I use VMware for about 6 months and I read about snapshots and how they work but still have a question to make sure that I understand how it works and it will work the way I think it works.

I have a Windows 2003 server, which is a virtual machine. I have an application that uses MSDE database. I want to upgrade the database to MS SQL 2005, but to do this I need to back up the MSDE database, uninstall MSDE, and then install SQL 2005 and move the SQL database. This happens on the same VM.

What I was thinking if I well Snapshots correctly is to snap turned the virtual machine before doing anything. Then do my upgrade steps and see if everything works. If its all messed up so I should be able to return to my shot and everything should be the way he had. What is the good? One of the main reasons I moved the server VM was because of this upgrade.

After reading the documentation for the snapshots, it's how I undestood it. Pretty much any change could be reversed with snapshots. I wish just they had put in a few examples in the PDF file. Also it would be the same for all type of grades of the OS? Could I snapshot a Windows 2000 Server, and then "in the upgrade of the square" to Windows 2003? I've cloned a VM to do this but was curious about whether snapshots would be just as easy.

    Thanks for your help.

    That is right.

Exactly the same thing for the upgrades of the OS.

Perhaps the most important thing with the snapshots is to keep an eye on them and don't let them sit too long or become too big.  You have described the use cases are very good uses for snapshots.  Just make sure you have a solid plan with a schedule set, so that you can come back or validate changes before the snapshot becomes too large.

    Good luck!

  • Question about Icloud and pictures related to the Iphone

I save my photos from my ipnone in icloud. Today, I needed to free up space on my phone so I made sure the photos and videos have been backed up in the cloud, but when I removed them from my phone, they are now gone from the Cloud. Why?

I thought that kept any cloud, so you can free your phone. What I'm doing wrong that will keep my photos and info on the cloud when I delete from the phone.

And of course I did not sync my phone in over a month!

    Thank you

    Laurie

If you have settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud library turned on then all of the photos you delete from your phone will be deleted to iCloud and any other device connected to this library to iCloud.

iCloud photo library as is currently is above all a method of synchronization between devices. It is NOT a backup, and it is not designed to be a storage cloud solution only.

You can reduce the space required for the photos on your phone by selecting "Optimize iPhone storage" on the same above-mentioned settings screen.
