(Redirected) Warranty hard drive issue

Hello

New to the forum here, but I need some clarification of a Dell representative on this forum.

I recently bought a 2 in 1 new Inspiron 13 7347 and I wanted to update the hard drive for an SSD.  The representative of sales at Microcenter told me to check if it could void the warranty before installing, so I called the help line.  I was told that if I bought the disc SSD from Dell and installed myself (there are instructions published for that on this site) would not invalidate the warranty.  If I installed an SSD not purchased from Dell, may void the warranty on all of the computer.  There is no sense to me, so I ended up talking to a customer service agent in the sales department who told me the same thing and quote an equivalent disk for a huge slice of $390 (3 x what I paid).

I did some research here and found this post from a few years ago that uses little common sense that everything you are replacing is not covered:

[See:en.community.dell.com/.../19435880:550:0]

Can someone with Dell please specify this?  I understand that if I replace the disc and the disc breaks down, it's my responsibility.  But, I do not understand how to replace the hard drive could void the warranty on the remaining parts of the computer (ie the touch screen).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi - I have a WD MyBook external hard drive with all my music and pictures on it. Today, when I hung it, my computer didn't recognize it. I have had this problem before and finally fixed by trying all my USB drives until one worked.

This time, I kept getting a message that the driver (or player?) had malfunctioned. I've tried the drive on another computer and it worked fine.
I went back to mine, it will appear in my computer, open, all records, finally got, but each folder was empty! Back to the other computer - everything was there and very well. Back to the mine - recognized her immediately but said there are mistakes that had to be fixed, ran the scan suggested, open upward, all records, everything here too. Yay!
Go to open iTunes, can't find my library. Back to My Computer, suddenly, everything in the drive disappeared again! Even the main issues.
Help! I am a total novice with the computer hardware. I tried Googling this but none of the ideas worked. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi midwestgirl80,

To resolve this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps:

Important The method below mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows.

    1. click on Start, type regedit in start search and press enter.

    2. Locate and then click the UpperFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    3. on the Edit menu, click delete, and then click OK.

    4. search for and then click the LowerFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    5. on the Edit menu, click delete, and then click OK.

    6. exit the registry editor.

    7 restart the computer

After restarting the computer, check if the drivers are getting detected.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Warranty hard drive for Dell XPS L502X

Hi, I have a Dell XPS Laptop L502X. I want to know if the additional guarantee component level is provided in addition to the laptop of one year warranty. Best regards John

Only if the disc was purchased at retail, which is separate from the system.  If this is the disc that came with the system, the hard drive is guaranteed for the duration of the warranty of the system - no other warranty applies.

    Hi Lenovo community,

My question is about replacing the stock 120 GB of HARD drive that was installed with my laptop factory T500 with a Western Digital Scorpio or portable HARD drive.

    • First of all, this is would be voids any warranty factory supplied with the laptop (it's this last year)?
    • Secondly, if I did a transfer of all of the files from my original HARD drive to the new would I have to manually partition the drive to have the backup and startup disks function normally?
    • Finally, the APS would still normally work?

I appreciate the advice and provide solutions.

    Thanks advance!

    (1) guaranteed Yes is kept for all parts of your laptop other than the spare hard drive

    (2) burn a set of recovery media and then burn the rescue and recovery backup disks, after installing the new hard drive, then restore your hard drive using the support recovery and restore your Windows and software using rescue and recovery backup disks.

    (3) Yes, whatever the new SATA drive have distinctive head of parking.

  • Replacement warranty hard drive

I replaced the original hard drive in my Dell Dimension 8250 with a 250 GB Western Digital caviar internal HD in June 2007.  This new drive has failed the week last after only 10 months.  It is still under warranty.  I called customer service and they said that they would replace the drive if I sent them the broken one.   The customer service representative assured me that none of my personal data on the drive would have cleared before they not remanufatured it for resale.  How can I know that they're going to do this? Someone has entered on that it is a good idea or should I just forget the warranty and just buy a new drive?  Thanks in advance.    RSB

  • (Redirected) Two hard drive failures in a week and refuses to Dell in computer replacement - only months

I bought a 8900 XPS for Christmas - I work from home and learn online - computer engineering and not less than databases.

So I now have a $850 boat anchor on my hands.  Hard drive died a week ago - tech sent on the Dell site to replace.  Guy took 5 minutes, says that you'll be fine. Thing is dead in about 10 minutes, saying "Windows cannot complete the installation."   Rinse and repeat - second hard drive installed today - Guy took 5 minutes, said "You'll be fine."  Thing's dead after 5-10 minutes.  "Windows cannot complete the installation."

The first failure, supervisor of Dell in India (surprise, surprise), said that they would replace my computer - well I guess that Dell allows supervisors to lie about their teeth.   After FOUR HOURS on THE PHONE after the second failed drive with Dell (guess where people?) the person tech finally threw their hands - they couldn't understand what was going on.

I am now told to JUST PUT IT IN A BOX and send it to the address that I'm supposed to receive in an email.  They fix it AND SEND IT BACK to me.  This company and their tech support is an absolute joke.

I Will NEVER EVER EVER buy another Dell.  Period.

  • (Redirected) T5810/hard drive Configuration Options

Does anyone know the configuration specific to the hard drive bays T5810 with respect to the total capacity of the disks 2.5 and 3.5? Sale and manual doc is a bit ambiguous.  Plan would be to order with a G 256 SSD as boot drive, then add an additional 480 G SSD, plus 1-2 3.5 "drives of the machine spinning it would replace.  What I think, based on what I see, is the berries can accommodate up to 4 drives, either 2.5 or 3.5, but the specs say 2 3.5 drive bays only... It seems that one of the optical bays can maintain disks 3.5 or 2.5 (possibly with an optional adapter, I see not listed).  There are enough connectors SATA on the MB, and I'm not going to add a hardware RAID card.

Also, if ordered with 1 single drive, the SATA and present for the full expansion of power connectors?  The configuration in order to specify a configuration of hard disk without also ordering the hard drives as well, that won't be necessary in my case.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Replacing the hard drive issue Compaq F750US

Hi all. Thank you for reading my post. I tried searching to see if it has developed, but no luck.

My laptop (Vista Home Premium) has a 120 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, which is the ability and I would like to replace it with a Raptor SATA 320 GB drive 10 000. I was wondering if this drive would be compatible at that speed, or should I go with a 7200 RPM drive... Or I can improve the speed of the drive at all? The cache size is a factor at all?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

These 2.5-inch Velociraptor 10 000 discs are too thick for laptops... they are made for the blades and such. The best you will get is a 7200 RPM 2.5-inch with a 16 or 32 meg cache. Yes, cache makes a difference. The more the better, but the sharp increase comes when you go 8 meg meg 16.

  • Hard drive issues

I have an inspiron 2020 with windows 7 service pack 1 installed.    Since then, I have the backup drive, and they work.   I need is no longer the Oem partition and a recovery partition.     I discovered something new.   Only the recovery partition also contains W7 start-up files.   They must be located on the C drive.    Is anyway to solve this problem by using the partition wizard home or other software?  I wanted to install windows xp in 32-bit mode.  The boot partition would be a problem?  Also, is there a problem with the boot partition if I converted the drive in fat 32 with partition Wizard c? Yes, I got the score of the front discs.

You may have a utility that allows to convert NTFS to FAT32 without losing data, but 1) Windows 7 will not work after that conversion and 2) I still don't know why you want to do such a thing, even if you could.  I doubt that "partition wizard" will not even able to convert the C: drive.

'Normally', startup files will be on the partition reserved... If they are on the recovery Partition, I would say that someone made a mistake (or a "repair" has been executed at a time given and restored the boot files on the partition of bad for some reason any).

If you want to install XP, it's ok... just use Windows 7 to "shrink" the C: partition, then install XP on this partition.  XP CAN have EITHER NTFS or FAT32 partition (you don't have to convert all the 'disc').  When you install XP well, it will destroy the boot to Windows 7 files, so you will need run a repair with the Windows 7 DVD to repair the startup files.

  • 1720 second Hard Drive issues (recovered)

Just got my 1720 a couple of days... love up to the exception of surveillance do not include mounting for a second disk drive.  Bad bad bad decision.

In any case, after arguing with technical support and get anywhere, I need to know what the official are much #s to order everything I need to mount a second drive.  The tech support person gave me two reference numbers, but they appeared identical in description and he did not indicate whether they understood the necessary screws, etc.  So, any help would be appreciated here.

Also, what type of SATA drive should get.  I see people saying you can get up to a 320, but I can't have a good deal on a SATA 500 GB that I would use.  But this is not feasible?  Should what features I look for when you select a drive?

  • (Redirected) Imminent HARD drive failure

    Hello

    I have a Dell R510 with an INTEGRATED CONTROLLER of RAID PERC H700 inside. It has 4 M27R0 X 600 GB, SAS 6GBPS, 3.5 inch disks and 2 X 300 GB.

2 of my 600GO records now have amber lights on them which means that the discs are potentially will fail soon in my opinion. So I want to replace them and my question was, what I need to get the exact model of 600 GB SAS or any disk, with the same specification will work?

  • How to organize files on the hard drive? (Not in collection). Lightroom 6, Macintosh

In Lightroom-6 I want to start to organize photos on the hard drive ("issues").

(At a later stage, I want to import photos from years back as well).

I want to organize in "Years" and "month".

    from pictures of the year 2004: I want to create a folder named '2004' in this '2004' - folder I want to create subfolders 12 (months) appointed etcetera 2004-01, 2004-02, 2004-03, 2004-04. (01 = January, 02 = February 03 = March, etc.).

    It should look like this:

    2004

    > 2004-01

    > 2004-02

    > 2004-03

    > 2004-04

    > 2004-05

    etcetera.

In the LR - app, I think that I am not able to create folders on the hard disk. I created folders in the "masters of Lightroom" - folder, but he won't show as expected in the LR - under 'Files' app after you start Lightroom.

Before you begin to move the photos to the new folders created, I want to assure you the LR - app can still find later.

Anyone got a good method or perhaps a statement-link? Other advice most welcome as well.

    Thank you!

    Arnie

The import dialog box may create the calendar folder based upon import photos that are organized differently in the existing folders. Use the MOVE or COPY option. The instructions are here (see section 5): https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/import-photos-video-catalog.html

In addition to the above, you can also organize using keywords.
