Redundancy needs

Hi all

Is it necessary to provide redundancy for the following types of files in a database?
1. archiving of log files
2. log files

We already have 2 sets of logs (loga, JournalB) under the disks of difference. What will happen is it will for example. disk containing the files loga crushes? Will this affect the continuous availability of the database?

What thought to newspapers from archives files and logs under the same disc? Will this affect performance?

Thank you

Yes, there is, because the two files are required for recovery. So, it would be a good idea ot have more than one copy of these files.

If you would break the log file, it would depend on what state? It would be a serious trouble to lose a current log file. Please check the documentation of oracle for your version in the http://tahiti.oracle.com and in that silence, guide backup and restore that speaks many cases.

What thought to put the files from archive log & log under the same disk files? Will this affect performance?

Have you ever read these files in normal operation. But they are written continuously. So it is better if you plan to put them together, carefully evaluate you the maximum latency you can have from storage, and it should be a fast storage.

    Hello Hans,.

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

According to the description of the problem, you have problems when you use the backup on Windows 8 feature.

Please answer these questions to better understand the issue and help you:

Upgrade to Sierra will make it redundant software?

    Hello Robert,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

I see Your ' e concerned about the software that you have installed on your Mac and its compatibility with macOS Sierra. You will need to check with the developers of the software that is installed to see if the version you have is compatible with macOS Sierra, or if there is an update available for her.  As a precaution, you can back up your Mac with Time Machine and then, if your software is not supported under macOS Sierra, just go back to your previous backup:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

    Hello

It seems that something go wrong with the HARD disk partition.
Did you try running chkdsk and to check the external HARD disc ability?
    Do this!

    Startup command box (cmd)
    You can use the command: chkdsk c: /f r + +.
But c: means that the HARD drive or partition, you need to change this with the same letter that is assigned to the external HARD drive

  • Need advice on the installation of WinXP/2000 on Satellite Pro 4270

    Hello!

(Sorry for the redundancy of this topic on this forum, too.)

Please, any suspicion on this strange problem will be appreciated.

I bought a used Satellite Pro 4270, with totally empty 6 GB drive, a pretty neat and apparently well kept machine...

But, trying to make a new clean Win2000Pro installed on it, as previously successfully dozens of times on other PC machines, installation will be ending in a minute after that is to start with the 4 on setupdd.sys error!

On WinXPPro new clean install, that the procedure will be stuck in less than 10 seconds, without any error at all...

So, it might be the reason the cause?

I tried several different corrective actions on this machine and guess several reasons, the cause, for example

-the hard drive works fine on other machines and has also been fully verified and updated in shape at low altitude
-copies of CD installation I tried several all work fine on other machines
-the BIOS has been upgrade v2.70 just some time ago
-the CMOS was turned off, i.e. in default some time ago
-the machine was torn off at the minumum on audio memory, PCI, USB, etc.
-the machine must be somehow strangely, which on the BIOS or HDD?
-are there some 'weird' IDE or other driver disappeared on this case?
-tests with installing Win98SE and FAT32 will not lead to a better result, just somehow different...

    Best regards

    Hello Pete

It's a really bad situation. If you do clean install of the OS you na? t need any special drivers. Everything must be preinstalled when installing the OS is completed successfully.

If you have a few HARD drive replacement, you should try to use it and see if the HARD drive is certainly not responsible for this. The fact is that W2000 and WXP can be installed successfully on many other old models of laptops and because of that I can't imagine that it is not possible to do the same on your device.

Is it always that W2000 is supported for this device and you can find that page to download all the drivers of W2000 on Toshiba.

  • I need to read barcode using visa OR and store it in file .text

    Hi all

I need to read to Barcdode using communications series (OR visa) and store it in .txt) file...

(I have attached series vi read file... here I can able to read codes to bars, but quickly it goes to zero...)

    Hello

have you checked on the examples of series communication delivered with Labview?

In addition, if you want to send the data to the port of reliable succession, I suggest to use a cleaner approach - pack your data of barcode in a significant data structure. The data structure would look like AUT like this: 1. start of data (described at the beginning of the data packet), 2. data bar code, 1B. end of data (described at the end of the data packet) and 4. checksum of data (apply only 1 a or 1 b, whatever you prefer). If you plan to add additional information to your package of data later, this would be really easy to change. This way you can also check if the data got lost during the transfer, notify the user.

You can take a look at how to read this data package here (set up a loop of producer-consumer, although not necessary):

  • 2012 server redundancy

Hmmm, I'm a little confused that I don't see any option for this post in forum windows server 2012.

In any case, I have a few questions about creating a backup for an all-in-one server. The server has active directory, DNS, file server, and everything on it. I am trying to create a configuration of redundancy in case of failure. While I was reading on the failover clusters and this seems to be what I need to do. I'm just a little confused.
When I create a cluster and add servers to it, what happens exactly? For the simplest case instance, I have the main server with all the data. Now, I bring to another machine with nothing on it. I have install windows server 2012 on it and add, as well as the other computer in a cluster. The main server data automatically copied on all servers that are part of this group? At this point if a server goes down the other to take over?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • A PC can operate effectively WITHOUT the need for anti-virus software?

Come to think if the first PC I've had and the worms Blaster threatened everyone...

I do not just shoot when to install my anti-virus software, I need to close my Windows Firewall... 2 + 2 = and Yes, when I did I got the virus of shit...

If only I had not installed the Norton... do you not think that any PC can operate without the need for anti-virus software knowing that you must close

the Windows firewall and use theres rather...?

    I wonder!

    Hello

It would be unwise to try to start without antivirus/antispyware are has just too many real threats and
methods for malware to attack the system. If you attempt to do if of course you have redundant and
    current backups.

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leave the file system, Web,.
Operational network (Script and behavior are also recommended in Ver 6 +).

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

Choice of PCmag editor - Prevx-
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • When compacting OE in WinXP SP3 I get a message that OE has encountered an error and needs to close

When compacting OE in WinXP SP3, I get a message that OE has encountered an error and needs to close that he made and lost messages in at least one of the message files. I can retrieve messages from the backup files, but I can do anything to correct the compaction process?

The simplest solution is a new identity.  File | Identities | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

To help prevent that this happens in the future...

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

    And backup often.

Do I need a firewall if I have installed the basics of microsoft with windows vista x 32 Security. If I do how can I download the microsoft firewall?

    Edwardini

Windows Firewall is delivered with and is part of the Vista operating system.
You already have it and, therefore, you do not need, or you, can download another Windows Firewall.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) will close your Windows Defender because MSE has its own advocate and performance 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflict, not to mention redundant.

  • RAID. What is it? Do I need?

If you've seen the term RAID at the command of a PC or the implementation of a (BIOS/specs etc options) you can have you wondered what it is. Over the years, I have had a few people ask me about this. RAID can be very useful to your needs. Let's start with the definition of RAID and a brief overview.

RAID - is an acronym for Redundant Array of inexpensive (or independent) disks. RAID is available in several flavors, but I will cover 2 of the simplest and most widely used. RAID 0 and RAID 1.

To use raid functions, it takes two or more similar drives. As two HDDs in 120gig. It really does not matter the size as long as they are similar. Two of the same kind, so to speak. If I had to use a 80 and 120 I would be left with little unused space. To do that make sense, I must explain RAID still more. The two versions that I mention here are 0 and 1. Which are also called Striping (0) and mirroring (1).

Interleaving uses two or more similar disks break down data and divide it into two. A single player and the other half to the other half. This means that you get the advantage of read and write to both drives at the same time. This can actually double the speed of read/write on your hard drive. Very good for the large file transfers video/image editing. But this speed has a bit of a cost. Specifically a risk factor. There is no '' parity '' in RAID 0 (Striping). That means really just catastrophic failure you may lose all those of you data. However if save you elsewhere regularly (we ALWAYS SUGGEST ) this data loss becomes just a waste of time spent on the recovery of your data. Very fast - a bit of a risk without a backup.

Put mirror uses two or more similar drives to maintain a constant backup of the main drive. The same exact data exist as a 1:1 disk each copy. Some note that this can increase the readings of a hard drive, making certain data-intensive to load faster, but don't expect too much. The primary pro this is redundancy. I have a ton of pictures of family and videos or tax info etc. - or even business data that I can't go long without. Extract a compressed backup and offsite data, it's just not what I want. RAID 1 (Mirroring) is right to the top of the alley. If the first drive fails or data too damaged by the age etc. the secondary drive is a direct copy of mirroring and can be exchanged in any time. It's a bit like the ultimate backup - failed disk - drive major change reboot disk mirrored - keep trucking. Pretty cool huh?

    Do I need this?

You must first readers available. There are several ways to do this (almost any laptop / desktop can be configured with several player - although sometimes the minor sacrifice) but the chances are that you are fine with the configuration of you, but if you may qualify for an extra speed (plays video/image editing etc.) or addition of redundancy (backup/provident/availability/fault protection of hardware failure) may want to look more closely at the raid. There are certainly more options out there beyond a few 0 or 1 (0 + 1-2 disks stripped for speed and direction reverse, 2, more backup disks).
