Reference Dell Spanning Tree PowerConnect 2748

I had just a simple question on Spanning Tree. We have a network configuration and everything is already difficult to implement the tree covering weight on the powerconnect switches if you already have your network configuration is? is it a day all? A lot of configuration? Or just a simple turn on button?

Sorry, the PowerConnect 27xx switches of the series DO NOT switch support the STP (Spanning Tree) Protocol.

    Hello

We are noticed on some of our Dell PowerConnect 2824 switches that our devices are connected to the switch suddenly disconnected.  Our devices are a network of small size with the switch, where we connect up to 12 devices and use DHCP to assign IP addresses to the devices.  We also monitor the network with a Windows laptop.  We have also seen times where the switch itself seems to be restarted and shows amber LED light up successively from left to right on the top row of ports, then return on the bottom row.  I confirmed that we use version 1.0.0.45 software for the switch in question.

We have also seen situations where all, except one device remains connected, but when trying to reconnect to the device has fallen, it seems that the switch seems to completely ignore the device regardless of the port where we connect to the switch.  We tried other cables, but the problem persists.  It's the kind of behavior that I could wait if the MAC addresses are not unique, but all of our devices have all custom MAC addresses.

Another issue is that we use a very short lease period of one minute.  I don't know if this will get us in trouble.

If you need more specific information, I'll try to answer your questions.

    Thank you.

    Bob

    Hi Bob,

If it happens on several switches it is probably not a problem with the hardware switch. It could be a matter of Spanning Tree where it lacks a Hello and due to the lease really short DHCP is originally from the port to close before it can restore a link. You can try to turn STP or enabling quick link on the ports for end devices.

Why do you have the DHCP lease on so little time for only 12 aircraft? It would add a lot of network traffic. You can try and have some machines on static IP and see if it still falls these ports.

    Hello...

We set up a new switch of 5524 I untagged on vlan 20 and access ports where vlan 20 I allowed. I created a computer on the access port on the same trunk port ip net... cant ping beween them. I'm no expert of switch, so I wonder what I missed. I did the same thing on a dell old 3524 and it works directly...

Here's the port config I tried to do a ping beween is 6 and 10 ports

In safe mode the PVID is 1 VLAN by default. You can do this by entering the command #switchport trunk vlan native {number of vlan}. If Cisco is configured to accept and send the marked packets and has an IP address in the subnet of VLAN 20, it should be able to communicate with other devices in VLAN 20.

  • Reference Dell Powerconnect 5324/5424 STP Configuration Question...

    Hey guys,.

I have a basic > intermediate understanding of networking. I recently loaded the research in what seems at first sight be an STP issue on our corporate network. Without going into too much detail, I think I found the cause of the problem. Within our network, we have our basic switching infrastructure and then a second pair of switches / second a lot, much smaller network that "needs" to be completely isolated from the base and core STP network.

However, I have discovered recently that this second network / set of switches are not as isolated as we thought. The second, network supposed to be isolated was installed by a 3rd party company - their statements being that the network should be completely independent of our core network and the only link between the two must be access / management connection so that we can telnet to these switches in the network of base if necessary.  However, I recently discovered that these switches on the isolated network are part of our STP! Not only that, but one of these switches is as root (as it has the smallest MAC address). It is through the management / access ports I think of BDPU must be get sent and received. Is there a way that I stop BDPU being sent and received during these management / access of connections between these two networks - therefore isolate the secondary network and making it create two instances of STP - one for the main network and the other for the secondary. We always request the ability to Telnet to these core network switches - I just need to block/filter STP on Internet access / management ports.

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and respond to this.

With protocols spanning tree disabled on the port should not send BDPU frames.

  • Reference Dell Equallogic Interface errors

Hi guys, I got a big problem here in my room. My equallogic iscsi interfaces have a lot of erros. What can be?

First of all, make sure you run the latest version of FW and SANHQ table.

Packet errors are often the cause of bad cable, bad switch ports and a misconfiguration on switch iSCSI ports.   The only way to erase the mistakes of packages on Equallogic arrays must restart the table.

(Note: if unable to switch, you can disable protocols spanning tree on ports connect to the table).

    • Use the tech TR1017 report to verify the configuration of the switch and confirm it meets best practices.

    • Run a show of support on the switches to review port errors.   If a Powerconnect or Force10 switch then engage networks dell help examine the switch logs. If another provider, and then engage the seller to switch to help examine the switch logs.

    • Cards network host to firmware update and the latest network card driver

    • The direct link to TR1017:

    Media.Community.Dell.com/.../tr1017-v4-Network-Guidelines.pdf

If the host Linux with Multipath.d, you may need to modify the multipath.conf file to include: tur path_checker in the devices section.

  • How can I configure Spanning Tree

    Hello

I have several core Dell passes using PowerConnect 6224 s most - these ink in my Cisco provider kit. We run several VLAN and have redundant links between stacked switches.

I have read up on top of the tree covering weight and have the following tasks:

1 map of the network - including the ID of the root bridge, root ports, roads blocked, age max and time of helo

Once I made my analysis information, I don't know how to better optimize the covering tree config, so far I have:

    1. make sure RSTP is enabled on all switches
    2. make sure that all edge ports have spanning port configured fast shaft
    3. not declare spanning port fast shaft on the links between switches
4 force speed and duplex settings on all ports to link between the switches (I guess that's because the auto negotiate takes more time?)

    I'm not sure is:
1 can I use BPDU guard and if so, where?
2 can I use root guard and if so, where?

I read the informative article by Todd: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-switches/f/866/t/19465205.aspx

But, I don't know where\whether I should to configure the options of guard - am happy to provide additional information as needed.

    Thank you

Spanning Tree BPDU Guard is used to disable the port where a new device tries to enter the already

existing STP topology. Thus the devices, which were originally not part of STP, are not allowed to

influence the STP topology. If the Enable value, when a BPDU is received on a port of the tip, this port is disabled. Once the port has been disabled it requires manual intervention to be reactivated.

Spanning Tree Root Guard is used to prevent change of the root of a Spanning Tree instance

in an unexpected way. The priority of an ID of adjustable bridge to zero but another bridge with a low mac ID

address could also set its priority to zero and take root.

Both are defined globally on the switch. If you have any possibility of other network devices being plugged into the switch without your knowledge. It may be a good idea to these permits after that STP is configured on the network. That way if someone randomly connected network with STP on this device, it will not throw your network for a loop.

Any thing that has missed out in the configuration part / all bad entries. I'm not sure now how to treat this. Pls help me and it is an urgent task for me

    Thank you

With multiple VLANs, you need to use the general/Trunk mode. With the help of the info we have I made a diagram to help show the location of the switches and parameters on them. Obviously things can be different, such as PVID, IP address, VLAN ID etc are all customizable to your needs. But the page layout modes and the port will remain the same.

STP will not fill the VLAN on the other switches. It's probably the GVRP feature it refers. With such a short race, it is more practical to manually add the VLAN. At least for the initial Setup, then once everything works enable GVRP to accommodate future expansion of VLAN.

    Hope this helps some.

  • Reference Dell M1000e + aggregator MI/O port mapping

    Hi all

I intend to install a new chassis Dell M1000e with Dell M/o aggregator. During the time of solution, I have a few questions about correspondences between the physical uplink with NDC blade ports ports. A Please check the config below and specify my queries?

    My hardware:

    • 1 x Dell M1000e
    • 2 x M i/o aggregator (A1 & A2)
    • 16 x M630 Blade (Qlogic 57840 S ANC four ports card)

    Reference DELL M/o aggregator:

    (reserved for Future use) module QSFP + 2 ports (Port No1:33 - 36 & No2:37 Port-40)

I want to use these two modules for my blades 4-port Quad and the confusion I had, how to associate these 16 ports (8 ports of each module) to the server blade and the amount of bandwidth I will get by blade with redundancy.

Module 4-port SFP + 10 GbE (Flexi-O of the Bay) (Port No.: 41-48)

Module 4-port 2/4/8 Gb FC FlexIO (Flexi Bay 1) (Port No.: 49-56)

FYI - I would like to install ESXi 6.0 on all blades

    Thank you!!

Oriented server ports are configured automatically as part of the aggregation of links groups if the server is configured for the LACP Protocol. Static GAL is not supported.

You will use the segregation network VLAN. A VLAN for network traffic and the other for the CF. Here are the commands to configure interfaces for different VLANS.

    Unidentified:

Dell (conf) # tengigabit interface 0/16

    Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) # vlan unidentified 4

    Output Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) #.

    Tag:

Dell (conf) # tengigabit interface 0/16

    The tag vlan Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) # 4

    Output Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) #.

Traffic from servers will follow the path of the VLAN. For example, if an internal server, facing the port is set to VLAN 4, that traffic will be transmitted on the uplink port which has also set to VLAN 4.

By default, all external ports are placed in a single whole LAG. However, you can change the configuration to support several shifts of uplink. Page 159 of guys configuration takes you step by step on setting up several shifts of uplink.

The aggregator automatically configures to match the FCoE parameters used in the switches to which it connects through its uplink ports. FIP snooping is automatically configured on an aggregator. Automatically configured port channel (LAG 128) works CWF port mode. See page 86 for more information and examples of config.

For redundancy, you could stack the units together. 241 page details the process of stacking.

Page 54 of 102 of the Guide blade IO has one other diagram that details more internal server port mapping for each blade.

  • Is the spanning tree bpdu filtering on the 5548 "bpdufilter default spanning-tree portfast'

It seems to me as "the protocols spanning-tree bpdu filtering" on the 5548 the same "spanning-tree portfast default bpdufilter" on the switches of the series N - is that correct?  If this is not the case, what is the equivalent command to 'spanning-tree portfast default bpdufilter?

    Ken

They lead to the same result, just with a little different method. N-series bpdufilter search all ports configured for portfast and disables the transmission and reception of BPDUS on these interfaces. With the looks of 5548 bpdufiltering for ports with covering weight tree disabled. There is not a command on the 5548 that will search interfaces in portfast mode and filter the BPDU.
