  I fixed it!

  I couldn't work at all Internet Explore.  I finally installed Superantispyware from a USB pendrive and it ran in safe mode without network.  So I ran Malwarebytes and ccleaner.  After a reboot, everything works great again.  I could install Microsoft Security Essentials and get current updates.  After a smart defrag it turns really well now.

  I was able to make a recovery cd set too.  It will be just as good as if I he burned them on a new computer?  I mean can the data used to make these CDs get corrupted over time?  This laptop is 6 years old.

  Do not attempt to move anything from one machine to the other.  Just use the disk and the serial number, you will need to install on the new machine.  You are allowed to have two facilities enabled, so you can keep the original as a backup, if you prefer.  If not, the minimum you need to do is to disable the original in order to free activation for another use (open the program and choose Help-> Deactivate)

  To reactivate this product on a new machine, you can simply download & install the software product on the new computer using the link below and enter the serial number when prompted.   Since you lost the internet connection after updating, you may need to update the NIC drivers to retrieve the connection. This is possible only if you have administrator privileges.
