Removable drives are missing
I have a laptop Windows 8 HP. When I click on the computer icon on my desktop, I don't see my usb drives displayed. I see that my 2 drives the C and D and my DVD E. I unchecked the box in folder options to hide unused drives. Also, I removed the usb drives in Device Manager and then restarted. I still don't see the USB key to the folder on the computer, although I don't see that USB keys in the Device Manager. I've seen other posts with the same question unselecting them the folder option to hide unused readers have worked, but for me it doesn't. What is going on?

I need help! My CD/DVD drive has disappeared, it is not even in the BIOS, and all the other removable disks since I installed an update from Microsoft. I went through all the troubleshooting steps and nothing has worked, including the fix it. How can I fix it? I contacted Microsoft and back an email that I had to PAY for technical support to resolve this issue. Which seems hardly fair since there was an update on their part that messed up my laptop. I have a Gateway MX8738 with Vista Home Premium. I have not seen the error messages it just that there is no CD/DVD drive installed and when I check in my computer the only things that are displayed are the drives C and D.

You could try to copy the contents of the DVD to a folder on your hard drive. Then start the installation from there.
(I've seen a post or two during the upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit of Vista 32 bit). Could just be a funky DVDROM drive problem. Copy of the files should ignore the issue.

Help! Windows cannot load a critical system driver is missing or damaged.
Hello
I really hope that someone can help me! I've read through dozens of discussions without results. The laptop I use for establishing the budget, research and games has Windows Vista. I was downloading of test (probably too at the time) and my system crashed. I do not have the installation disk, or pre-installed her "takeover of marketing", did the thing F8 nothing helps and I can't afford to lose any files.
I get absolutely no where but back to screen Windows Boot Manager telling me that Windows was able to start. The following information is referenced:
\Windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows didn't load a critical system driver is missing or damaged.
Thank you!
MsCameron
Hello
Via F8 safe mode is not an option for you, try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft
Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.
Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.
If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-Windows-with-Windows-Startup-Repair/
Table of contents
- Overview of Windows Vista repair options
- How to perform an automatic repair of Windows Vista using Startup Repair
- Advanced Tools Overview
- Conclusion
If you do not or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a file ISO of Vista Startup Repair available that you can put on a Bootable floppy to make the above startup repair and that the method is recommended by a large number of posters in these Forums.
Unfortunately, you have to buy it.
Here is a link to it:
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2011/Windows-Recovery-discs-updated-reinstated/

Saving your files:
You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.
Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.
See you soon.

Hello
Are you able to boot to the Windows Vista operating system?
Read the following article and see if that helps:
Error: A required CD/DVD device driver is missing - when you boot Windows 7 or Windows Vista installation disk:
-
My product key of Windows Vista parts are missing.
Missing product key-frame = my windows vista family premium product-part are missing and I can't get the rest * removed *.
Hello
Contact the manufacturer of your computer on the ways to solve this problem.
If you want to reinstall Vista.
1. ask thrm if you have a recovery Partition on the hard drive to take it back to the factory settings (new condition)
You have to press F10, F11, etc. depending on the manufacturer; ask them to know the exact details.
2. ask to send you recovery discs to do the same.
They normally charge a small cost for this service.
Using one of the above methods normally does not require a product key for input on your part, because these recovery methods use product key factory of the manufacturer of Installation, which is used on several machines to activate with your motherboard.
See you soon.

Mobile computer watch Vista x 64 DVD player as a removable drive.
I had not noticed it before, and I guess it's just a new show.

I know that I used to get this symbol "remove hardware" only when I plug the Flash drive or disk external DRIVE on USB port, no other readers have been connected on this machine now.Someone told me to change the drive letter of the disk management services... I have change to E: to G: and now it's showing the G: drive as removable drive.
