Remove 'open with' (fact sheet 3:d part deleted)?

Hello!

Recently, I uninstalled a bunch of plugins part 3:d for LR. They were installed when using LR 5, but after that I updated to version 6. The thing is, there is still a remaining option to open one of the plugins in "Edit with...". "when right clicking a photo. Color Efex pro 4 is the plugin which is shown, but since I uninstalled the application I'm not interested to see this option more long. Oddly, it does not disappear after the uninstallation of the product. All other products from the same company was also uninstalled and is not displayed (as it should).

Ideas how "to fix this?

Best regards

Fredrik

    Hello

1 how long have you been faced with this problem?
    2. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?

Step 1: Search for the issue in the clean boot state.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

  • Windows 7. How can I remove the Windows media Center programs recommended in the "Open with" section?

I select which application (Word, Excel, etc.), they all open with Windows Media Center. This happened recently and I don't know how to cancel it. I see the Windows Media Center in the 'Open with' box where it asks you to "choose the program you want to use to open this file. How I remove it from the section "recommended programs"? I see that Internet Explorer is also in this section. What should be there as well? What actually belongs to this group?

"I see the Windows Media Center in the 'Open with' box where it asks you to"choose the program you want to use to open this file"." How I remove it from the section "recommended programs"? »

A pretty easy regedit should remove an application from the section "recommended programs". Here is a procedure step by step on how to do it. Unfortunately, I don't think that will solve your problem. What seems actually to have occurred is either your .lnk .exe (or maybe both) have inadvertently been associated with WMC. Out of the list of the programs recommended for the open with dialog box will not change. In fact, the next time that you open the program, it will open in WMC and add automatically return a program recommended in the open with dialog box.

There really should not be whatever it is that you open a .lnk or .exe with because you really don't want to open them... you want to run. To determine if the .lnk or .exe associated with wrong, you can either watch the extension file associations in the control panel > programs, or you can see if it's a shortcut or the actual executable file that does. Need to know who, or if she is at the same time, in order to complete the fix.

Once you know it, this link will show you how to restore the default file type link. Matter of fact, now that I think of it, it wouldn't hurt to just restore default settings for .lnk and .exe.

"I see that Internet Explorer is also in this section. What should be there as well? What actually belongs to this group? " I may be wrong, but I do not believe, you should really see anything in the open with dialog for a .lnk or .exe. Again, you don't want to really not open them... you want to run. The shortcut .lnk file goes to the executable and runs the .exe program.

  • 'Open with' how to control?

Not sure if this is in the right category.  I spend most of my program around a lot files, and lately I just renamed the folder where they are stored (not on the C drive of course).  Now, my programs used to open are perplexed.  I need to right click, properties and set the default to opening program for this type of file type.  Because they are not on C XP disc fails data if it does not appear on the window open with even if I try to set it as the default opening program.

Is it possible to say definitely open with what to put in this window for programs available to choose?  Maybe a registry change?

I wonder when Microsoft will wake up to the fact that less attachment programs with the best operating system?  Then, when the operating system takes a toilet and must be reinstalled, you're facing up and running without delay with a new facility with no chance to get the malware that have infected you before along for the ride as you would when you restore to an earlier point.  Each program must be a full-fledged island.  So, if you have a problem you just excise and replace it.

As more and more programs offer a stand alone installs it will be easier and easier.

What do you mean by "stand alone installs? Couldn't you have used a different sentence? My interpretation of this expression would be installed that adds nothing to the registry and Windows system folders. And, if that's your interpretation, I think (which obviously does not carry much weight with you) is that they become less frequent.

I don't know what you mean be 'manufacturer's installation routine. Almost all programs that install ask me where I want to install it.

Then you use the manufacturer's installation routine. Maybe it's that they use Windows install, but they give some Installer is to be used the instructions, either default or custom.

Insanity is their dumping all in Program Files.

In your opinion, it's crazy. In my opinion this isn't. I suspect that the vast majority of people agree with me rather than you as it has been the standard for many years now. If it wasn't a good idea, it would have been changed a long time ago. It is much better than the chaos that reigns in DOS.

Also, be aware that I have install all the programs that I can on a partition that is not C. However I always indicate E:\Program Files\ or the E:\Program files (x 86)-. I do not for the reasons you are doing well and I do so knowing that if I re - install the operating system, I'm going to wipe E too and re-install all the software again.

Regarding file associations, XP tends to ignore programs that are not installed in C:\Program Files. That was my point to the original post. They don't appear after I installed it. I didn't install them on C drive copy and paste them to the D drive. It is a major design flaw in XP. And I'm sure that its not addressed in Win7 or 8.

Do this little experiment, if you want? I have.

    • Remove all your system pdf readers (by running the uninstall routine)
    • Install Acrobat Reader and make sure that pdf open in Acrobat Reader with double click
    • Install Foxit but do not make the default pdf reader and leave installing to C:\Program Files\
    • Right-click any pdf file and then go to 'open with '.

Foxit will be not be classified even if it is installed on the C drive. You need to browse to it and select it before it will be remembered as a potential opening of pdf files. The same is true if you go to him via the Folder Options. Like it or not this is the way it is, and although I cannot and don't talk about MS, I'll be very surprised to find that this situation will change before the death of XP in April 2014. I (sorry if you don't like the word) hereby remove my post that began "my apologies, I gave the wrong information. I discovered that since I was in fact initially correct, you can add to the list of programs presented by 'Open with' in the Control Panel-folder Options. I will however, do not delete the post for clarity for future readers.

Do what you want. Believe what you want. The real truth can be identified through experience and logical thinking. You talk to the experts on this forum regularly and seem more often that otherwise, tell them directly or indirectly that you know better. Obviously this forum isn't really a vehicle for you to learn, it's really trying to let other people know how you feel about the rest of the world that are clearly all the idiots in your notice.

Here's a last fact for you. I am trying to educate someone who clearly does not believe that they need.

Answer if you want, but my contribution to this thread ends with this post. Experience past should tell you I want to say this. Furthermore, if I contribute to any future sons of yours at all, it will be to advise people to read this thread before you get caught in your self-confidence inappropriate.

  • inDesign (indd) files are set to open with Acrobat Pro XI and I can't change it

Ive tried following various items of advice offered to people with a similar problem here and without success.

I had a big catch - up in my Acrobat where someone is no longer deleted police default installation used in context menus. Therefore Acrobat was seriously messed up. Adobe technology patiently walked me through fixing the problem but... Since all the .indd files are configurΘ for dΘmarrer with acrobat and I can't put to open in inDesign. The registry key has a couple of these entries number of Monster under indd I can't identify or understand what they represent.

This is starting to drive me crazy. Using 'open with' has no effect. Acrobat always try to open the file. The only way I can now open an indesign file must first open inDesign and search for a file. Fortunately there will open it this way. I have a house full of CC on this workstation and I am not thrilled to the likely hood of formatting of the disc and everything again. Surely someone else had had and solved this problem?

    Thank you

Peter... I told you in my last post how long it took to repair... 90 seconds. Comrade in Germany who told me how to find the hive was on my Google chat online. It was as if he was beside me, tell me what to do. He also told me a few relatively simple facts on how to uninstall Windows works and why using it is a recipe for disaster if you plan to install a new version of the software that you remove. It was the beginning of the problem. Had, I used a specialized uninstaller following registry entries left by the Windows uninstaller, ($30 I might add) the problem would never have existed.

Peter... I suggest that the only reason to delete and reinstall is your proven method to solve the problem because the simplest and fastest method (for someone who is familiar with windows) is to edit the registry as described to me by a MS Certified Engineer. Frans van der Geest is quite right in saying it's an OS problem and just like you, he gave no indication of how to solve this problem. The own Adobe installer is so inefficient to delete the software, when I removed the version 5.0 of ID by using the Adobe uninstaller program, he left traces of the program in the registry and temp folders hidden under the Group of files 'user '.

Once I got the knowledge that I asked here but had to go to a technologically oriented windows forum to get the fix took less time than writing that took this answer. In addition... I now know how to avoid future events of this type and, if necessary, help others to avoid the tedious task of uninstalling software that traces of leaves scattered around the hard drive self while waiting to resume the problem (as it did for me) when a later version is installed.

I suggest everyone who experiences this problem to get your hands on a well known and reliable uninstall application and use it to remove all traces of the rogue program before installing a later version of the. I'm undecided if keeping multiple versions of Adobe software on your system of insecurity when you buy a subscription of the CC is good or bad but you provided unregister the software bought, you can always reinstall if you refuse to CC... Reformatting the drive is probably the only way you'll never completely rid your PC of CC, but seeing that this is the way of the future, why bother removing it?

  • Why Firefox always opens with the last session tabs?

When I open firefox always opens with the last session tabs? How can I solve this problem?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: 'Open with'; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

You can check the setting of the homepage:

    • Tools > Options > general > startup: Homepage

Firefox supports several home pages separated by ' |' symbol (pipe).

You can check the suspicious extensions or recently installed unknowns.

Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: open with) If you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can remove possible user.js and numbered prefs-# .js files and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.
