  Yes it should not be a problem. The BIOS will not limit the size of a SATA hard drive and the recovery disc will work on a drive as large or larger than the original. You can also duplicate the old drive to the new or just use Windows Easy Transfer to create a 'migration' file that will restore your settings and files to the new drive after putting Windows on it.   That being said, the slow performance may not be due to insufficient disk space.  There are many things that can cause slow performance.  Run this tool and send the report in a response.  This is nothing more than a tool which collects what is running on your Mac and shows all the details.  This will help me to identify what could be the cause of the downturn.

  If Lightroom then reads these as duplicate files, it shows that they are already present in your Lightroom Catalog.

  You can search by file name and check if the image is present in your library.
