Rename the virtual machine name
Hello
I created a virtual machine, called Win2k3test, so a record is produced for win2k3test. I would rename the folder of Apps1 include files and the name of the vmdk file?
What is the best way to achieve this?
Thank you
Hey Chris,
I recently used the instructions in this link and they work well to rename a virtual computer.

Howa would I move through a group of VMS and rename them based on their former name? For example, I have 20 VMS appointed
VM1
VM2, etc..
and I want to rename them to
VM1-old
VM2-old, etc.
do something like
Get - vm vm * | set-vm-name ($_ .name + ""-old "")
It does not work quite right however
Thank you
Hello, TheVMinator-
You were pretty close, just need to add a Foreach-Object loop and exploited each computer virtual returned by Get - VM as follows:
Get-VM vm* | %{Set-VM -VM $_ -Name "$($_.Name)-old" -Confirm:$false -WhatIf}
Note that I left the - WhatIf parameter there so that when you run this, it shows you just what he would do . To actually rename the virtual machines, just take the - WhatIf.

[Beginner] How to change the virtual machine name
Hello
How can I change the name of a Virtual Machine - I want to say the name that appears in VMPlayer (or VMWare Fusion) as it has recently used Virtual Machines. I tried to change the name of the vmx file but this does not affect the name of the virtual machine displayed in VMPlayer.
Thank you very much.

VMware Fusion 3.x and 2.x but not 1.x, you can click on and change the name of the virtual machine in the Virtual Machine library on the right side, just under the display area.
For VMware Player you need to edit the "displayName ="parameter in the configuration file .vmx and of VMware Player virtual machine must be closed when you perform this operation."

Get the name of the cluster which is on a virtual machine by using the virtual machine name
Hello
I wrote a code to get the various bits of information about our machines virtual for use in the capacity planning, we have 5 virtual centers, each has at least two clusters.
My code already gets a handle to the virtual computer object (using the code snippet below) I can get the hostname. Is there anyway to determine which cluster this host resides on, for example, is there a property of the virtual computer object that can be used to get this info?
Public Sub connectVC()
{
string URI = " " https:// "+ Server +" / sdk "; "
customer. Connect (Uri);
customer. Login (username, password);
}
Public Sub get_vms()
{
NameValueCollection filter = new NameValueCollection();
filter. Add ("name", "^ wks");
IList & lt; EntityViewBase & gt; vmList = customer. FindEntityViews (typeof (VirtualMachine), null, filter, null);
foreach (VirtualMachine vm in vmList)
{
"Do things
}
Thank you
Mick
Take a look at this Perl script that gets what you are looking for, you may need to translate this into another language if you are not using Perl bindings: whichClusterIsMyVMIn.pl - Find that your VM clustered belongs (requires a vCenter)

rename several virtual machines based on the State of food &; VM name
I'm looking for a powershell script to rename the virtual machine based on the state name and vm power. For example, I have several virtual machines with a - temp at the end of the name of the server. Some are turned on and some are turned off. I am wanting to rename only those who is off
Thank you

Assuming that - temp is part of the name
Get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq "poweredoff"} | foreach {Set-machine virtual - VM $_ - name (($_.name).)} Replace ("temp", "delete"))}

Store the virtual machines folder has incorrect name
We have a few VM servers that are stored in directories with incorrect names. I'm looking on suggestions on repair to the top and go ahead. When we build a new VM server to replace an existing one, we install and test on the day of migration that we rename the server and the new server, so this causes incorrect storage files.
(1) what other people do to in this type of situation
(2) how can I fix misnamed storage files?
Thank you
Ryan
Hello.
(1) what other people do to in this type of situation
The same thing here.
(2) how can I fix misnamed storage files?
Rename the virtual computer, stop the virtual machine and then cold migrate. This will make the names correspond to all levels. OR rename the virtual computer and use Storage vMotion.
Good luck!

Script to rename the virtual computer by name DNS listed in VC
I am very new to powershell, and I tried to understand this by using pieces of code I found, but nothing helped.
I'm looking for a script to take the given DNS host name for a virtual machine listed in VCenter and rename the virtual computer.
For example.
Host01VM01 (as shown in Vcenter) - the DNS name of the "something.xyz.com". VM and rename it "something.xyz.com" in Vcenter.
To run the script only for a group called "Mycluster" you can do:
Get-Cluster "My Cluster" | Get-VM | ` Where-Object { $_.Guest.HostName } | ` ForEach-Object { Set-VM -VM $_ -Name $_.Guest.HostName -Confirm:$false }
This script will only work for VMS that have installed VMware tools and probably only for VM which are turned on.

Script to change the name of the file to the virtual machine and its associated files
Hello
I'm looking for a script to change the name of the virtual machine in virtual center and also change it has associated file names in the data store to match file name of virtual machine. But the vmdk file will contain a descriptor which maps the - flat.vmdk file. So not sure that we can achieve this through a script.
Thanks in advance!
Not really as much as I know.
The advantage of the svMotion is renamed it the files (.) VMX, VMDK,...) For you.
The only alternative would be the command line. See Duncan Howto: renaming a virtual computer.
With the help of the plink.exe tool which could possibly be scripted.

List virtual machine name and sum of the VM disk size (stocked) and export it
Hello
I need to list all the VM:s and their implemented disk space. I can do it with this command:
Get - vm * | foreach-object {write-host "$_ ' t ' (Get-disk hard - vm $_ |)} Measure-Object-CapacityGB property-sum) .sum. ToString()}
(If there is a more elegant way to do it, do not hesitate to enlight me )
The problem is that I'm unable to export these data. Addition of
| Export-csv... or
> liste.txt
end of the line creates the empty file and print to the console.
How do I export the work properly (or I want to)?
Ah, you are after the total size of the virtual machine just hard drives, no virtual machines provided dimensions on a data store. So, Yes, you can continue to use the cmdlet Get-disk hard as you had in your first example, but written as such in order to allow operations on the result:
Get-VM | Select-Object Name,@{n="HardDiskSizeGB"; e={(Get-HardDisk -VM $_ | Measure-Object -Sum CapacityGB).Sum}}
This route can be a bit slow, especially as your environment is greater. If it is too slow, then we can use all the best buddy, Get-View.
Anyway, doesn't that do for you?

Get the list of virtual machine names and addresses IP to a specific folder
I am trying to get a list of virtual machine names and the IP addresses of a specific folder in vCenter. The problem is that there are several files with the same name in different folders. I need to know how to specify the level folder higher in which lies the customer10 folder. Here is an example of my current script that pulls all the info from the virtual machine of all folders named customer10:
Get-vm-location customer10 | Select Address Name,@{N="IP." E = {@($_.guest.) (IPAddress[0])}} |
out-file c:\VM_IP_Addresses.csvThe PowerSHell engine is to 'know' the function before you call it.
Save the function in a .ps1 file.
Point source then this .ps1 file. Make sure that you are placed in the directory where the .ps1 is stored, or use the full path
PowerCLI C:\ >. ./GetFolderByPath.ps1
Note that there is an empty space between the 2 points!
Now you can call the function
PowerCLI C:\ > Get-FolderByPath-path MYDC/myFolder. Get - VM | Select the name...

Lists the names of all the virtual machines
I want to display a list for the name of all the virtual machines.
Get - VM export to much information, how to filter the info I need?
With the Select-Object cmdlet, like this
Get - VM | Select name
The Get - VM product objects that you pass through the pipeline ('|) ') to the Select-Object cmdlet.
The Select-Object cmdlet allows you to select one or more of the properties of the objects it receives.

View of the Virtual Machine with the host name of the filtering
Hello
I'm trying to get a specific view of the Virtual Machine from a hypervisor.
Basically, I tried to reuse an idea found on the script of cdromdisconnect.pl, an address in http://communities.VMware.com/message/1192878#1192878
The code would be
My $host_view = Vim::find_entity_view)
view_type = > 'HostSystem. "
filter = > {'name' = > $vm_hypervisor_name},
);My $host_moref = $host_view-> {mo_ref} {value};
$vm_view = Vim::find_entity_views)
view_type = > 'VirtualMachine.
filter = > {}
'runtime.host' = > $host_moref,'name' = > $vm_name,
},
);But the API said that "filtering is only supported for the Simple Type"
So I'm just the host_view and then call the property "-> virtual machine" to recover all the vm of the host, and then I loop inside the table to retrieve the name and the virtual machine, I am looking
But, is there not a smoother way to directly get the view of the entity of VM to a specific host?
Thank you
Give a try:
$host_view = Vim::find_entity_view (view_type-online "HostSystem", filter-online {'name'-online $host_name}) | Die "could not get $host_name!"
$vm_view = Vim::find_entity_views)
view_type-online 'VirtualMachine.
filter-online {'name'-online $vm_name},begin_entity => $host_view.
},

Hello guys,.
I have vCenter Orchestrator 4.1.1 build 733 installed and it works fine, but I need your help for the following two issues:
(1) I want to put the description/notes of a virtual machine using a workflow. But I have not found any API useful to create this workflow (I don't want custom attributes, see attachment for details).(2) how can I get the name of the data store, where the virtual machine? I need this name for a workflow.
I need your help.
Thanks in advance!With regard to the notes of the VM, the following code (see enclosed package) can do this:
var oldNotes = vm.summary.config.annotation;
If (oldNotes == null) {oldNotes = ' ' ;}}
System.log ("Notes of VM current:" + oldNotes);
Now put the new notes:
Start by creating a context
Context of var = new VcVirtualMachineConfigSpec();
Update the annotation with the new value property
configSpec.annotation = notes;
launch the task to reconfigure the virtual machine with the new context
NOTE: This is sure to apply with a virtual machine under tension
var task = vm.reconfigVM_Task (configSpec);And, in what concerns the VM information, take a look at the workflow of the library: \Library\vCenter\Virtual Machine management\Others\Extract virtual machine information

Name of the Virtual Machine in full-screen
Hello
Is there a way to display the name of the Virtual Machine when you have it in full screen. The problem is that if you have multiple Virtual Machines open and they are full screen and off you self only a black screen and Don t know you one you have active. I would like to see the name of the VM on the screen as we see a screen capture if you pause the virtual machine.
nolsson wrote:
Do you mean that you force different Virtual Machines in different spaces? Like you always have Windows 7 into space 2 and Linux in 3 space.
Yes, but I wouldn't use the word 'strength', I assign the VM space when running. I open Fusion and then VMS, I use like XP, Ubuntu and I move the virtual machines to the spaces that I want them and I keep not merge. I can suspend VMs need to free up RAM, but otherwise merge is left running.
