Repair a 64-bit MBR using a 32 Bit DVD

Hello

I'll install a BSD next to my Vista (business x 64) operating system, and I'm waiting for my Master Boot Record to rewrite. I can't save the entire MBR, because the BSD installation modifies the table to partition (around 0x01BE) and I don't know what it does exactly that. I want to continue to use the Bootloader of Vista, but I can't find any DVD of Vista 64 - Bit. As a new download from the servers of msdnaa would take several days, it would be great if I could restore the MBR with one of our 32 Bit DVD. Anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you very much
Thomas

Hi Thomas

Sorry, but I can tell you from experience that this will not work.

If you try to access the repair options of the 32-bit disk on a system with 64-bit installed, it will throw everything simply a mistake on the wrong operating system.

    People,

I have a Dell Inspiron 19. The Dell of Dell diagnostics disk utilities & drivers say all right. It is a Seagate 320 GB drive. I installed the drive on another computer and used sea tools to erase the disc.  Then I created a partition and marked as "bootable".

When I try to use the Dell reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Home premium SP1 64-bit, it crashes when is about to display the windows logo.  A few pixels logo show and then it's there.  Any ideas?  I worked on it for several days.  Really a "stumper" for me and I did something like that for years!

Original problem seems to be a massive viral infection (owner had no active antivirus software installation!) which led to the non-bootable computer.  After working on this for a while, I decided to just do again it.

The message arrives as soon as I select "repair system" can not find the file on the Windows Dvd.

    Hello

    1. why you try to run the system on your computer repair?

    2. when exactly you receive this error message?

If you receive the error message while booting from the Windows Vista DVD it means that the file i2omp.sys is corrupted.

You may need to make arrangements for a Windows Vista disk that corresponds to the same edition, as it is installed on your computer. Later, try to repair the system on your computer.

    Hello

    Microsoft sells more than Vista.

I suggest you borrow a DVD for sale at retail or OEM System Builders Vista 64-bit of a friend.

You can borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

    Hello

You will need to contact Fujitsu about this.

You cannot change languages with Vista Ultimate and Enterprise.

You can have a different result if you try reinstalling using this method.

  • 64-bit DVD

I'm looking for a 64 bit DVD of Vista Ultimate (all languages).

I have a 32 bit OEM and DVD (all languages) license, but I would like to reinstall it to 64-bit...

The only problem is I don't have a DVD rom 64 bit and I would like to know if it is possible to download an iso somewhere.

I searched already, but I can only find cracked versions, suggestions or links where I could download an original version?

    Microsoft sells more than Vista.

As your Vista 32 bit is an OEM license, you can buy the 64-bit version.

Online: try Newegg, Amazon, etc. to buy Vista

Or try your computer repair store.

    Of course.
The Toshiba Recovery CD is designed to recover the laptop.
Using the recovery CD you will get factory settings.

But note; the Toshiba Recovery CD format the whole HARD drive and erases the HARD drive partitions.

    According to this article:

    GhostyKnight,
Make sure that you have tried the options listed in this thread: XP without boot troubleshooting.

When you are in the Windows Advanced Options menu you have the option 'Disable the restart in the event of system failure?'   If you select this option, and then instead of restart it will be stops on a screen with an error message.  Then, you can search for the error message or post in this thread and we can help with the search in there. Hello sahm2boys,

We will make sure that your system is clean, see below:

Try to start your system in safe mode:

    1. Restart your computer if it is running.
    2. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on.
    3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or beep) you can stop.
    4. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
    5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.
    6. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments.
    7. You should then be at the Welcome screen.
    8. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.
    9. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! Once the scan done remove anything it finds. Simply restart your PC to see if your problem has been resolved!

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

  • Impossible to restore the MBR using Bootrec.exe

I recently installed Ubuntu with Windows 8 so that I got dualboot. After a while, I decided Ubuntu wasn't my cup of tea, and I wanted to remove and restore the partition that it used for the Windows partition. I also wanted to restore the MBR. According to this guide , I have deleted the two volumes dedicated to Linux and extended Windows partition. When the computer reboots, I discovered that something had happened to the Grub - I guess I deleted something I shouldn't. It now shows the following during startup:

    GNU GRUB version 2.00 - 19ubuntu2.1

Minimal BASH like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible completions of device or file.

    grub >

Type the comand "output" translates a start meny quite similar to the old one (Grub):

I can boot Windows as normal by choosing option 3. The USB at the bottom is my recovery disk. Booting from it, I can enter the command prompt. I tried all the options of Bootrec.exe as described here:

However, it is always the GNU GRUB, which is displayed when you restart. I noticed that the /ScanOS and /RebuildBcd States that total identified Windows installations is 0.

I also tried to export and delete the BCD store and then rebuild using the following commands:

    • bcdedit/export C:\BCD_Backup
    • c:
    • Boot CD
    • BCD attrib s h - r
    • Ren c:\boot\bcd BCD.old
    • Bootrec /RebuildBcd

However, this is reflected by the following:

Someone has ideas how to restore my old MBR?

    Update:

After fully cleaning my drive, the Gnu Grub has disappeared. "Just remove my files" did not help.
