Repair disk is unavailable in disk utility

Repair disk is unavailable in disk utility run check etc..

It is always useful to indicate the MBP EXACT you have (model/year) and the current OSX.

What disc you are trying to fix?  What seems to be the problem that is to ask you to fix it?

Ciao.

  • Repair disk utility made innacessable Bootcamp partition.

My MBP running 10.9.5 has problems, commissioning. I started in recovery and used disk utility to repair my disk. Can be started at OS X very good now, but when I hold down the ALT / option to get the boot options for Bootcamp Windows partition is no longer available.

When I boot to OS X I see my score and access the files, I'm guessing the only utility of deleted disk the boot partition or something like this.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post the output of the following Terminal commands?

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt to enter your password, and there do not appear to come back. You can also see caution against improper use 'sudo' and the potential loss of data due to an "abuse" of the order.

    Hi joecuv,

The error is returned by app installer from Apple OS X uses to extract and install the .pkg package files.  I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of the application of the program installation, and after some searching found a user on the Apple Discussion site with a similar error, when trying to install iTunes. This user has managed to install iTunes after the safe boot mode.  When booting in SafeMode Apple prevents some startup items and other third party charging software and performs a check to start the drive.  This could allow the utility to install extract and install the software successfully, therefore, I recommend trying this approach.  It may or may not work.

Please read the complete instructions for use and/or print them before continuing.

    1. Download and save the installation program offline posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page in the section "problems".
    2. Disconnect all wired devices that are not essential to the functioning of your computer.
    3. Restart your computer in safe mode, see OS X Yosemite: start in safe modeand log on to the user account with the problem.
      • Start in safe mode will take more time as normal and things look/will not work the same when connected (by graphic example may seem different, wireless/network may not work, etc.).
    4. Proceed with the installation of Flash Player using the installer downloaded in step 1 offline.

If Flash Player is installed when it is started in safe mode restart as usual (on the same account used in step 3) and ensure that it works in normal mode.

    • Once connected, launch the browser and go to the help page at step 1.
    • Click on the "Check now" button  The widget will display which version of Flash Player is installed.

If it works, you'll want to determine which startup program or a third-party software interferes with the installation utility so that you can properly install other programs in the future.

If you get the different, or even the application setup error when you try to install in safe mode, I recommend you contact Apple for assistance that the error comes from their utility application.

Please post back here if this did or didn't work for you.

    Thank you.

  • 'Can be repaired' is 'No' in Info in disk utility

    Hello!

My MBP (15 "beginning 2011, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB) running El Capitan (10.11.4) is very slow to start and apps are very slow to start.  I ran the first aid in disk utility and received no errors, but when I click on Info in disc utility it says 'No' in "Can be repaired" (see screen capture below).  I checked the external drive that I use for my Time Machine backup and it says '' Yes. ''  I've looked everywhere with every permutation of my question and can't find anything.  Should I be concerned?  What the answer may be I can get an education on why?  Thank you!

    Sarah

You run your utility file or the recovery partition disk utility? In order to repair disk utility must unmount the volume, and he cannot dismount the volume, on which it is running. Restart now command-r and run recovery.

  • I have little problem with my disk utility.

    Hello Sir/Madam...

I have a little problem that I can't fix it.... so please can someone help me with this question, I can only explain with this image as an attachment, I thank those still and wish everyone the best chance.

Make a backup, best 2 separated on 2 discs. Start of recovery volume (command - R on a restart, or hold down the option/Alt during a restart and select the Volume of recovery). Run the check/repair disk utility and repair permissions until you get no error.  If this doesn't resolve the problem, try reformatting the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS extended (journaled), then click on the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the operating system.

  • Disk utility was unable to repair the Time Machine USB2 external HARD disk partition?

    Hello.

My client has problem with its USB2 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go since early 2010. There 2 partitions: FAT32 and HFS (for most Time Machine backups). After connection and enter its password valid successfully, it takes a minute to set up, and then a message that says "OS X cannot repair the «...» "You can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I ran disk with their verification utility. Both are problems with "invalid sibling link" and said the repair option. However, this repair option is grayed out.  So, is it not possible to fix it with free software on the disk except for the reformat?

I used two different 15 "MacBook Pro (Mac OS X v10.8.5/Mt. mid-2012 lion and v10.10.5/Yosemite of the early 2013) with the same results, is not the MacBook Pros. http://imgur.com/a/OW0s6 for a couple screen
s (shooting/capture) of Mac OS X v10.10.5/Yosemite. I also tried disk on its FAT32 partition checks, and found minor problems. They were repairable too unlike the encrypted HFS partition.

    Thank you in advance.

Disk utility can't repair an error of invalid sibling link. You use Disk Warrior that assuming that the disk is always good. Otherwise, you will need to save what you can then reformat the hard drive. Exactly what the error message said.

  • My wife has an i5 to 2.3 GHz MacBook Pro early 2011 and it worked like a slug.  Ran disk utility and verified that the disk needs repair using recovery HD.  What does this lead and what is the risk of losing all the data is there?

Even if it is very slow, you must make a return upwards before the race "repair disk". The risk of data loss is minimal, but do it anyway: Save and run to repair the disk.

As for what it implies - most of the time nothing more than simply sitting and waiting to do his thing.

  • Disk utility can't repair the disk

I wish I had my vintage iMac (2007) repaired if it is worth... I have this message when you try to use: disk utility can't repair the disk. File system check exit code is 8. Problem with the disk partition EFI system partition file system with a mount point is needed Please HELP! Is it useful to have repaired? Thank you!

Is there something on the drive on which you need to recover or save? Otherwise boot from your installation disks and repartition and format the drive. Be aware that this will WIPE the Drive. Make a partition using the schema GUID and put it into Mac OS Extended journaled. You can replace the disk of herd yourself if necessary than to pay someone to do it... for me that's not worth.

  • Disk utility first aid operation was unsuccessful and iMac freezes when it is reloaded

iMac Intel Core (2010) 320 GB 4 GB of RAM.  Running OS 10.11.6

Started computer, white screen appeared with the icon of a folder with an exclamation mark in the folder.  Nothing else to do, so restarted iMac, hold down the command and 'r' to open disk utility.

Ran first aid, recommended "incorrect block are 1172 instead of 601.  File system check or repair a failure.  Operation failed. "" "First aid running not a, if possible save the data on this volume.  Click OK to continue. »

Discount to zero is successful, but screen is frozen with no access to the hard drive.  I can't open the preferences system due to frost.

The circle of rainbow of spinning of death continues to run so I am not able to get any other repair mechanism.

Anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?  The iMac is obviously not able to boot to the hard drive.

This probably means the HD has failed and must be replaced. How you proceed, is to take the computer to your local Apple authorized provider who can help replace the disk and get you back in business. If you are not aware of any local could be held, please click the following link to start to find one close to you.

  • Disk utility says Everything is Fine, when it's not

I am trying to understand what the point of disk utility. I checked (several times) my boot drive (SSD) and a second internal HARD disk, disk utility says it all goes well and nothing in need of repair. Meanwhile, I can say drives are certainly * not * ok since I get poor system performance, and the HARD disk is sprayed randomly when I access/copy some files.

I went and got the SMART utility and Disk Warrior, SMART utility written my boot drive is FAILING and my HARD drive has FAILED.

I am now under DW on it, but I'm pretty annoyed that utility disk is essentially useless to see if there are problems with the discs...

Disk utility and disk warrior can only repair the files in the directory, they are unable to repair a disk that is physically / mechanically failing.

  • Cannot restore the files from hard drive damaged in disk utility

    Questions

    1. can I save my files/fix this problem without having to restore via disk utility?

    2. What am I doing wrong / I can do to restore correctly on an external hard drive via disk utility?

    Background

Last week when I turned my MacBook Pro 2012 I got stuck on the gray login screen. The progress bar moves very, very slowly and when he finished my laptop spontaneously restarted and repeated the same thing over and over again. Here's what I tried to do so far:

-Start in SafeMode: does not work

-Extended Apple Diagnostics/Apple Hardware Test: test results: no problem found

-Utility (recovery and valorisation of the Internet) disk: disk hard Mac (Apple HDD) and Recovery (partition) HD are not damaged, but the partition disk0s2 is (created after a failure; a year not logged - if it matters) and in 'check' and 'fix' the latter I get inconsistent error messages.

    Disk utility error messages

Most often, I get this error:

The volume disk0s2 was found damaged and must be repaired. Error: This disc needs to be repaired. Click on the ERD.

    Stopped disk utility check "disk0s2."

Disk0s2 volume could not be repaired after 3 attempts.

Error: Disk utility can't repair the disk. Save as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your files packed around the top.

I also received this error message once:

Wrong number of extended attributes (it should be 730585 instead of 730589)

Wrong number of access control lists (there are 1364 instead of 1368)

Save the files to external hard drive?

Before that I didn't even used/accessed Time Machine.  I have a new HDD external, formatted for Mac. I created two partitions: backup and Time Machine (so I can start using it once I have find this current issue). When I try to restore disk0s2 external hard disk I get an error restore failed (252 or 254, I think).

When you drive is damaged, it is extremely difficult to make progress.

I recommend the lessee a spare drive in an external enclosure and install MacOS on it again. Then boot from that and you are back in business. You can use the full power of Mac OS AND additional utilities to recover your files.

More 350 000 files on your damaged disc are Mac OS - and those that can be installed in replicas of prefect by a new installation on a new drive. You can't Brute force 'all' copy of a damaged disc. What you want back damaged drive is not Mac OS X files - you want YOUR files. They are stored in the Directory/users in a folder with your short user name. with additional utilities, you can simply copy this directory, or use a recovery as data rescue program to get individual files.

  • First aid disk utility

I just ran disk utility first aid.  At the end he said "operation completed successfully" but just before which is has a few lines that I thought were unresolved.  Is this ok?

Several lines first to check different things, then this...

    Down keys

    Down keys

Missing thread record (id = 75075057)

The Macintosh HD volume was found damaged and must be repaired.

File system check exit code is 8.

    Successful operation.

It is not his success for me.   Is this ok? Do I need to do something.

You want to update this.  As a beginner with this tech stuff, I thought I'd do first aid has been only when the computer is running.  I've since read that you run you reboot with 'command + R' starts upward.  Chose my hard drive, then ran the disk recovery and first aid to repair, he ran and repair the hard drive.  Then restart chose this screen, now is doing well!
