Replace asterisks around words in italics?

I created a rather long novel by using markdown and wants to open the text in pages (and possibly author iBooks). After trouble with paragraph breaks, my simple solution was to export the markdown to plan the text so far. However, all the words I formatted with italics in markdowns have asterisks (like * this *) around them. Y at - it something "Find and replace" to replace * this * with this?

Hi composer.

As far as I know, Pages have the ability to read Markdown coding.

But a link in another thread led to http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/

where I found that Markdown is a text to HTML converter.

There is an example on the page of the markdown of coding and the result of the HTML produced by Markdown when rendered by a browser. This sample copy and paste here or in the Pages showed that italics and bold the two survived the translation:

DEPARTURES FROM THE SAMPLE

.. is really quite ordinary text, simple and clear. How is that good for you?

• You just type naturallyand the result looks good.

• You don't have to worry about clicking the formatting buttons.

◦ Or fiddling with indentation. (Two spaces is all you need.)

To see what you can do with Markdown (including tables, images, numbered lists, etc.), check out the cheat. And then try typing in this box!

ENDS OF THE SAMPLE

Sample above was copied from the page, and pasted into Pages, copied from Pages and pasted here.

Can't speak for the effectiveness of this method on the length of a novel, but it can provide a route towards what you want to do.

Kind regards

Barry

PS: Notice the problem with dashes, but did not.

If you want to replace a nth Word, it could do:

      2 '[^^]+',

N is 4 in the example above.

The 4th parameter is the accident, which is one of the reasons why it did not work. The trend was also hard-coded. I don't know if it of necessary or not.

  • should I replace Pages with Word

I'm used to Windows Word and find which Pages are frustrating, especially when you try to create an envelope from a letter I just wrote. Should I replace Pages with nWord if possible.

Yes. It is possible to install Microsoft Office for Mac on Mac if you're willing to pay Microsoft for it.

Personally, I use rather LibreOffice. It meets my needs and costs nothing.

  • How 2 apply a CSS element/attribute on 'replace' a single word in all the places in the text.

Hello, I am new to DW and only to learn CSS. I'm trying to create/assign a CSS attribute to the text which is often rexample. For example: John Doe is the new manager of Department of xyz. In Word, you have the ability to 'find and replace '. However, I would like to create the CSS where I can go the CSS style and highlight the name, change to the new name of managers, and Dreamweaver will apply on all pages of the site. Anyone know how I can get this result, instead of going from page to page, line by line, and retype the name over and over again or help find and replace, located almost in time can.

    Thank you!

Great solution to Nancy actually has a problem.

His image shows sound only to replace in the active document and, if you are looking to replace throughout the site, you want to pull down to find in 'Current Local the entire Site' for all instances of the text or code you want to replace. Dreamweaver warns you that you cannot undo this action for any document not opened in the site. When you click on 'OK' it will open a window of progress because it makes the replacements.

But CSS cannot replace text, create only formatting.

  • Replace function: Replacement of whole words only

I improve the search for the truth about a project that I work on, delete the words of the operator (and others) of search criteria before transmitting it to the verity engine. The only problem I have so far is stripping the whole words 'AND', 'GOLD' and 'NO' from search criteria specified by the user. Obviously, I want to only do that in cases where 'AND', 'GOLD', or 'NO' is the word in full and don't replace not things like 'the hand', 'organization' and 'notingham. Probably, it's so simple, but I'm a little puzzled.

Even if I'm here, someone has developed something to improve the results of verity, or know of a resource that I could watch more?

  • SEO and words in italics?

I was wondering if it makes a difference in the search engines if my text is in italics? I have a key word, beyond 3 G, and whenever it appears on our site, I put it in italics with a™ symbol (mark) next to him. Is this a problem for SEO?

No one knows what Google does with certainty, but in italics should not
does not matter... especially if you use the tag . If you use the
Tag, which can actually help, but then again, it is an easy way of spam
Google, so maybe google ignore anyway.

FYI, you don't need to put the brand (tm) on each instance of your company

page... in general as part of the logo itself.

  • Application updates in bold and in italics while doing a search/replace on the contents of merged data

    Hello
Wonder kind knowledgeable people if you can help me with a question find/replace.

I'm doing a fusion of data of book content in indesign, where my data merge file is a simple text csv file that is delimited by tabs. I have two things (almost like here) I would like to make to specific parts of the text, but do not know how to achieve this.

    -First of all, I would like to preserve the words/phrases of form 'italic', but it's obviously lost in a csv file.  Is there anyway that I can mark these words so a search/replace can make this italic of the word.  Im hoping that there is a solution that looks something like this;
for example.  Content of the book is 'the italics of the word needs to be adjusted.
Original content is modified to be "the word $Italic $ $ needs to be adjusted", so that a dollar sign encapsulates the word in italics.
Then I am able to merge data from the csv file and somehow make a search/replace words/phrases that are wrapped by the dollar sign.  So, do a find/replace all the words/phrases that satisfy this condition and then apply italic to all the words between the dollar signs.

-My other question is that I use the ' |' character in my text to determine paragraph separators.  I then do a find/replace after you import the text to replace all occurrences of ' |' for the paragraph separator (a kind of symbol $, a representative character in the menu drop down to the right of the change to). It works fine, but I would like to make a "BOLD" format paragraph separator so that it can better distinguish the separation of text sections.

But this is different from my problem "italic" above, since I am trying to apply a "BOLD" format to the character "change to", rather than something that exists in my original csv.

Hope I think, but I'd be happy to provide you with screenshots etc. (when I get home at )

    two solutions.

for the solution of italics, I would say that the OP has answered his own question with one exception - do not use the symbols dollar, instead use = or another character that is not reserved by GREP.

the solution I would use for italics would be a GREP search once the merger completed. Take a look at the picture to see what I did.

    the second solution: styles GREP.

This means that the text will have a paragraph style are entrusted to him. make a style and character called "BOLD" in this style, the only thing to change is located in basic character formats, set the bold font style. might even make the character another example cyan color is more easily strucure.

Then go to the paragraph style options, click on GREP styles and correspond to the following screengrab

the advantage with a GREP style is that once the vertical bar (|) is replaced, the GREP style bold is lost; and that means less post processing and not needing a second search of the text - it's all living.

  • How can I change my dictionary to replace US words for British words?

    Hello

My apologies if I posted in the wrong section, because I was looking for something that contained Mac applications...

I'm having a lot of problems with Word dictionary 2016 (or maybe the system dictionary?) where the American spellings of words such as organization or analyze are not recognized as incorrect, even though I have selected English (UK) and English UK selected as default language in spelling.

There is no interest in establishing a personal dictionary because the words he would add the main dictionary used.

I really want to do is to edit the main dictionary and replace all the words - ZE required for - SE...

How can I do this please?

  • Why style replacements are rejected by preflight

I did four volumes of a series for a client and the number 5, ID decided that all my style substitutions are unacceptable. Because the customer wants that every word in the language to be bold italic and every word in Spanish to be italic, I did regularly in other volumes simply by highlighting the words and change the styles of characters (or do a search/replace styles for the most common words). Four volumes, no problem. BIG problem of volume 5. I still errors 239 (on about 800 +) set in the preflight Panel and I'm frustrated seriously. I can do them ONE at a time, by double clicking it in the preflight Panel, and then clicking the style in the Panel character styles that I need, and it goes very well. It won't let me choose to simultaneously set several. I'll be here another time to do the next 239 of them. What I've done wrong? I used a template from of a previous volume for this one, so I can't understand why with this volume he refuses to accept substitutes them. No problem in previous volumes. What is the problem? Within any paragraph of any text in any work in ID, even a style marked as 'normal' might need a word in italics from time to time, so what's happening? I know I must be missing something fundamental. So help me out here. I'm ready to scream.

I just tried to use find/replace again, hoping that it would help - NOPE. He says he made more than 100 + changes, they still come upwards as errors on the pre-flight.

Why not edit your preflight profile? Overrides of Style of markup is not enabled by default and can be disabled:

  • How can I force a paragraph style without losing the italics?

This has been annoying me for ages. I work on documents in Word, using italics for book titles, etc. and then import them into indesign. I apply a paragraph style and three out of four times the bits in italics are preserved. However, the fourth time the paragraph style does not (probably due to the presence of italics) and I have to force him to do it using Alt-click. Invariably, the italics is replaced by Roman.

It happens earlier with a bunch of notes and endnotes in a book, I'm working on and means I have to go back through each of them, manually applying italics to my books and reference titles. Is it possible to force a paragraph of note/reference style without losing the text in italics?

    Thanks for your suggestions,

    Tom.

I'm not sure that long-term planning is needed here.

If your only concern loses italics when importing from Word, create,.

in InDesign, an italic character style. Then do a search and replace

in the document, InDesign (once you have placed the Word file)

looking for an italics, formatting and replacing with your italics

    character style.

Who will save you from losing your italic formatting.

Repeat for bold, bold italic, exponent, index and nothing else

    the author uses.

There are scripts that help in this process (I think one of them is

    called "preptext", by Jongware).

If you want a complete solution that can be found all types of

override setting in shape and creates and applies the appropriate character

style, check out my script "create character the Styles of overrides him."

  • Reading of MS Word 2007 in InDesign

    Hello

Is it possible to convert a MS Word application InDesign file intoAdobe?

    Kind regards

    Jean

    Altogether.

When you import the word document, you can preserve the formatting Word, throw everything or previously defined mapping Word styles to InDesign styles. Select Show Import Options in the Place dialog box.

Normal professional workflow (in the real world) is that the author uses Word to write the manuscript. Author knows generally little or nothing of typesettinga nd good use of styles, then everything is made under conditions normal (usually in Times or Times New Roman) with many local formatting.

Typographer receives the manuscript and the place in the code. Because it is presumed that the formatting is what the author intends, at least for starters, styles Word and formatting are preserved during the import. Then it gets cleaned up.

Jongware and some others, have clever scripts (he'll probably post a link to it for you) that run a series of find/replace operations that get things like the words in italics or "BOLD", then their assign a style so the formatting can be retained when other changes, such as changing the police to something a little more enjoyable for your book Remove empty paragraphs and extra spaces that should be handled by the spacing of paragraphs and a bunch of other small tasks of cleaning, and enough little time, you can take a document Word completely informal and put it in a beautifully structured InDesign document where all the text with this style through it all redefine a style fixes.

  • Copy / paste clears formatting (italics)?
