Replace the drive of my laptop in a Toshiba Satellite 5100/5105 - experience?

I intend to replace the defective CDRW/DVD drive in my Toshiba Satellite 5100 503 (European version, it was sold as 5105 in the United States and other countries).
The disk is a UJDA730.
Update, I consider the much appreciated a Slimline DVD +/-RW drive. Unfortunately, some internet research revealed that the upgrade to optical laptop drive is not as simple as one would hope. I had no trouble to remove my old drive (just remove the keyboard and unscrew the two screws), so I consider myself to be able to put in a new drive instead. However, two problems remain:

-mechanical compatibility: the 6500 has seems to have a different layout of collar. The eject button and the LED are in a different position from that of my current drive, so I doubt I'll be able to use my old glasses with it. In addition, the bezel from my old drive has a niche in the lower right corner (similar to that found on some laptop computers Fujitsu-Siemens), which gives place to the volume control on the laptop. So I can't reuse the old bezel and bezel of the NEC will probably not allow me to close the CD tray. I wonder if some Dremel work on the plastic parts of the NEC drive will allow me to physically. Anyone who has tried?

-electronic compatibility: computer laptop drives don't usually have jumpers to change their configuration of master/slave/cable selection. Instead it is located in the firmware, change so it is flashing a new firmware, which is not easy to find and hard to do if your drive is still not recognized. SO I need to know if my notebooks is the optical drive set to master, slave. CSEL or 'inverse cable select. " Can someone help me here, either by own experience pointing me to a relevant source on the web?

Hello

as a first step in a Satellite 5100 CD player is fixed mounted and can only be replaced with the same model! Another model might work, but as you can see the bezel fits and maybe the new drive does not match 100%. So you will have problems all the way!

What do you think about an external solution via USB or Firewire. It's the best way to upgrade!

To bye chris

    Hello

I think the disk replacement procedure is very similar to replacements on other laptops.
To remove the STRANGE bay module follow these steps:

    1. turn the computer.
    2. remove the black binding screws.
3 turn the computer over and open the display.
    4. push the module bay ODD.

All that s. It s not achieved with a screw.

Migration of CS4 breaks the license. That's what 150:30 means. Assuming you are using a Mac.

You can use the Terminal method to repair the license... but I stress that carefully read you and understand the instructions here before you run it. beginning

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Portege R700

    Hello

I just ordered a R700 and hope to upgrade the HARD drive of 320 GB for one SSD OCZ Vertex 2.
Is it easy to replace the hard drive in the R700? Should I remove the keyboard is a Panel on the back?
What size hard disk will - 2.5 "or 1.8"?
A SSD will be simply connect using existing connections, or something else there?

    See you soon.

According to the specifications of the laptop Portege R700 has 2.5 HARD drive is HDD with SATA interface, so I think that you should order 2.5 SSD with standard SATA connectors.

HARD drive is placed on the bottom side near the cooling vent and it is fixed with a screw only.

Remove the screws and HARD drive. You will see how the HARD disc is placed and how it must be removed.
It's very simple and you can do it alone.

  • Replacing the drive HARD Satellite Pro 4280

I have a SP 4280 and the original hard drive on it does not have earlier. I bought a Hitachi Travelstar 5K 100 40 GB replacement, but I can't seem to make it work. FDisk recognizes the disc as a 40 GB drive and seems to format the drive. However, attempts to write anything to generate results in an error message "invalid media".

Installation using XP Pro format the drive gives me an error message in the sense of "Windows cannot format the drive.

I have attached the drive to my PC via a cable of adapter 2.5 "and it seems to work fine. I also use the latest version of the BIOS on my laptop. It is not the settings of 'cable' rider select and 0/1 on the drive.

Someone knows what the problem is, or that I couldn't do or have suggestions to raise my drive and running?

    Cheers in advance

    Hello

Your device was shipped with a 6 GB HARD drive.
In my opinion, the BIOS has a few problems with the recognition of the HARD drive because of the large size of HARD drive. Unfortunately, I put t see any possibility to solve the problem.

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Satellite C850

I found this Toshiba on Youtube video that shows how to replace the hard drive on the C850.
    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=0550V-181d0

It helped me a lot, because there is NO entry in the user manual on how to replace it and where the hard drive can be placed.

They show you where is the memory, but not where is the hard drive. WTF? so, this video tells you it's in the same slot for memory.

    Hello

Yes, I also noticed that not all information can be found in single user manuals.
However, there are many other sources to find essential details.

Toshiba Europe youtube channel seems to offer a lot of useful videos to replace the HARD drive, memory or a drive CD/DVD in the different laptop models.

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Portege R400

    HI people,

Can someone point me to a disk for the R400 replcacement? Those listed on www.topazsupport.co.uk is horribly too expensive, of course, I'm looking for a drive 1.8 "standard that fits this model.
I noticed that the current HARD disk has a female connector while the disks hard most seem to have a male (I say "appear" because nobody seems to actually have real pictures of their readers for me to know)!

    Thank you

    Ferg.

According to specification for laptop, your laptop has 80 GB 1.8 inch PATA HDD.

To be honest I don't know what to do, you mean with standard HARD disk. The fact is that you must use compatible HARD drive for your laptop model. According to the specifications of the laptop, you can use disk TOUGH MK8007GAH. In my opinion, you need replace HD with the same model. So you can be sure that everything will be OK. I think also a capacity of 80 GB is sufficient.

I found nice pictures for you:
Here is the image of HARD drive
    Here you can see connectors

At the end, I must say that replacement of HARD drive seems easy but these hard drives 1.8 are more sensitive and pressure on the wrong spot can damage the HARD drive and data may be lost.

Do you want to replace one?

  • Replace the drive in Satellite L500D 13 c - recommendations

    Hello!

I plan to replace the HARD drive (5400 RPM) underway with a new, more fast (7200 RPM) HDD in my Toshiba Satellite L500D - 13 c. The question is how much it will improve the overall performance of my laptop.

The second question is whether it's hard to replace the HARD drive in this notebook. I'm not a great computer, but I'm pretty handy in general so I'm willing to try if this isn't great risk.

Earlier, I was thinking about upgrading the RAM (from 4 to 8 GB) in the same notebook, but it seems as if there is no support RAM Pentecost 8 GB of capacity. Anyone who has had the same thoughts?

Any help or thoughts on this is much appreciated.

    See you soon!

    Anders

Replacing the HARD drive is not problematic and, in my opinion, free for guests, so no risk guarantee valid for laptop for you to avoid. Check the user s manuals document. Maybe you will find a description how to do this.

My personal opinion is that the HARD drive with a faster HARD drive upgrade is not necessary. HARD drive will be a bit faster but, in my experience, faster hard drives produce more heat too so it can happen that the Briefcase for laptop computer where the HARD drive is placed will be a little warmer than before.

What is the reason for the upgrade of the HARD drive? Just better performance of the laptop?

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Equium M50-216

    Hello

I'm looking into upgrading the hard drive in my M50-216, which currently has a MK4026GAX. The player that I am most interested is the MK8032GAX. Is this a suitable replacement, that is going to work?

    A few questions:

    1. I guess it's just a case of withdrawal of the current drive, mortising the new one and start using my Toshiba restore CD? This will reinstall the Norton junk as well?

    2. assuming I have remove the current without shape, i.e. I leave it as it is, I suppose that if I find the new drive does not work I'll be able to put the former back in and it will start like nothing happened? I'm not changing any other material.

    3. it will work as a trolley suitable for the old disk: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=414030

    4. the most important question will be affecting my current standard warranty, or assign an extension of warranty if I choose to buy a more this year?

    Thank you

Old disk HARD 40 GB MK4026GAX
New disk HARD 80 GB MK8032GAX

The BIOS should recognize up to 100 GB HARD drive

1.) Yes it should market. Also, it should be possible to install Norton ghost image files
2.) Yes, it should be possible to put the old HDD and start the laptop.
(3.) if the new HARD drive supports the IDE interface, it should be possible to use it in the external USB case
4.) No, the upgrade of the HARD drive should t has no effect on the guarantee

  • HP G56 Notebook: Replacement hard drive on a laptop G56

The hard drive on my G56 died. "No HDD found", said currently, a 500 GB Sata 2. Can I put a 1 disc? There are a lot online that claim to work with this laptop. They are not formatted, and I know I have to buy windows again, but will I need to install the HP software also? In the affirmative. where can I find it?

    Thank you Gary

You can put in a 1 TB drive. I recommend a model at 7200 RPM, something like this:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822145875

Actually, you do not need to buy Windows again. Your laptop has an OEM license. Can you still read the key Code label inside the battery bay or at the bottom of the laptop?

HP system software or drivers and utilities can be downloaded from this page. You may have the original recovery disks that the laptop has asked you to do when you first pulled it upward? If this is not the case, these discs can be ordered from HP, for much less than new windows.

Please respond so we can provide additional assistance. Do you need directions or a video to replace the hard drive?

  • Replacing the drive HARD - Am I was scammed?

    Hello

My HARD drive has failed on me (error 301). Bought a new WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB and gave it to an official HP Service Center for the recovery of the system. I currently live in Jakarta, Indonesia. Engineers then told me that they could not install/do the system recovery because I bought the laptop in the United States. Different region, they say, and the best they could do was just to install a clean Win 7 home.

But a few days later they told me that they could not yet install Win 7, and my new WD HDD was damaged. They said that they have tried with their HARD disk, which is the same brand as the original HDD (Toshiba) supplied with the notebook. Gave me a quote for 3 million rupees (US $$317) for HARD drive not including service fees with an inexplicable discount of 1 Million rupees (US $$126). I refused and asked my laptop back. And when I turned it on, it was on the last step of the installation of Win 7 (PC name enter, password, cd key, etc...). The laptop works fine now, just, without the recovery partition. I ordered a HP.com recovery kit but it'll take a while to get here.

Is it normal for a Service official HP Center replace a HARD drive for more than $200 USD?

The recovery kit works on a WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB HARD drive?

    HP Pavilion dm4-1265dx.

    2 years - no guarantee

    Concerning

Generally, the price HP or service provider will charge you for an item is much higher than in the retail channel. Also, a Service Center HP 'official' need not be owned and operated by HP... This could be a third-party provider approved by HP. And Yes, there are many questions for obtaining maintenance work in another region when the computer has been sold.

You need to create your own personal when HP recovery disk you first set up your computer. This should have resolved most of your questions. Here are the specifications of your laptop HP Pavilion dm4-1265dx Entertainment. According to specifications, your original computer hard drive was 640 GB. A 500 GB drive should work with the HP recovery discs but noted problems with it installing to a drive that is smaller than the factory.

problem to find a driver for my Toshiba satellite laptop that has a CD/DVGW TSST Corp TS-L632D ATA MK1637GSX ATA

I can't find it on your site or Toshiba. My driver I think is damaged. My Device Manager, in properties, said to me:
"Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) »

    Hello

Code 39 means that the driver is corrupted or missing.

Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Also check with your system manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers for your DVD. Or even if it
are you can reinstall the 'old'. Many use Windows default drivers however some special aura
ones. Also check the website of the manufacturer of the car.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • Replace the drive DVD/CD-RW on my Satellite Pro A40

    Hello

Does anyone know if a Toshiba DVD/CD-RW drive with model number SD-R2412 will be compatible with my Satellite Pro A40? If not, anyone know where I could find? Some muggins broke the CD drive on my laptop by bumping the case off a cargo cover. As a result, I can't claim on the warranty... statement of accidental damage... bah. :-(

    Thank you!!

    Hello

Sorry, but I can't tell you which model will fit your laptop because there is not a public document on this subject. I know that your drive is set up and if the warranty is still valid you should not o alone because you can lose your warranty. I also found information that your device may also use a DVD-R, - RW drive. These types of information have all authorized partners. Try to contact them. I'm sure they can give you correct information on this subject.
