Replace the hard drive on dv6-2136el

Hello

My dv6-2136el hard drive is broken and I need to replace it.

I have the recovery disks that I created with Recovery Manager.

Which hard drive I buy in order to restore the computer with the recovery disks that I created? It must be the same disk or can I buy a bigger or faster?

To reinstall the system enough to replace the hard drive and start the recovery cd?

Thank you for your valuable suggestions,

Matteo

Hello

The best idea is to open the Windows Device Manager and check if there are any entries with a yellow icon against them - pilots who are not always installed by Windows 7 automatically can include the card reader, DriveGuard, validity sensor driver if you have a fingerprint reader.

Regarding the partitioning of the HARD disk, there should be no problem using Windows disk management tool to reduce the Partition C - 60 GB is fine for the operating system.  Also remember that you can have only 4 partitions primary (you will already have 2 - hidden and system that contains startup files and the C partition).

Kind regards

    Hello

I'm about to replace a defective hard drive on my pc, but I'm not sure how to continue the process of windows recovery. I was wondering if I need to contact HP for recovery set despite the fact that I have a recovery disk (D :) on my laptop. I replace the local hard drive (c :)) and I was wondering if the recovery on my pc drive is enough to drive the recovery process?)

    Thanks for your help,

    Hello

The recovery is actually just a partition on the same physical drive as your operating system, so when the HARD drive is replaced, it will be gone, however there are two options available.

    1. you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition D.

    Order HP recovery disks.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct disk Image ( must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - IE Home Premium, professional etc. ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are in entering either the complete model number or product of your series dv6 notebook no here.

    Hello

Assuming that it's just a problem with the recovery media, here's another solution, you can try.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

  • Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD? or would it be too expensive?

Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD?

or would it be too expensive?

Yes.  There are several alternatives.  I found a way relatively inexpensive, using a map of mSATA (very small SSD) and an adapter to connect it to the connector IDE 44 pin internal of my PowerBook.  It works very well.  Rather than repeat what I posted previously, you can watch these two topics (which also has good info, other users)

FYI - I have used the adapter is even cheaper now

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Running OS X El Capitan

    10.11.4 version

    Try this first:

Start the mac all holding the SHIFT key, it is slow, connection, and then select Restart from the Apple menu.

    When this does not help:

Reset password utility in the recovery Partition:

    1. Restart your computer from the recovery partition.
    2. Open disk utility and run a repair permissions on your boot volume (in ElCapitan click the first aid tab). Once this completed, close disk utility. We do this for good measure.
    3. Open a Terminal from the Utilities menu. Type in resetpassword and select your user (NOT administrator system/root) account in the menu drop-down.
    4. Click on the Reset button at the bottom of the window ACL section and Reset the folder permissions.
    5. Exit the utility password and return to the main recovery menu.
    6. On your keyboard, press + Q and restart your computer. It is very important that you don't hold down the power button to exit the recovery session, or the ACL Reset to occur.
  • Replacing the hard drive on my Portege A200

Hi, I would like to replace the hard drive in my a200 with a bigger, but I don't know how to remove the current, just wondering if any of you guys could help me?

    Thank you james

    Hello James

Unfortunately the A200 does not for me, but the concept is still the same. At first check if you can find coverage of HARD drive in the lower corner of your unit. If you can't find it from the outside as it comes to the very complicated situation. It is possible that the HARD drive is under the keyboard.

If you have not many don't experience do it alone, because you can damage something, and the guarantee is no longer valid.

    Good luck!

  • Equium A100-338, replacing the hard drive

Hi, the hard drive from my Toshiba Equium A100-338 just broke down on me, and now I think to replace. Because I'm not good material, I thought I have ask for advice about it here first. Is this an easy repair that can be done on your own? If so, how can I know if my computer match which new hard drive? I know that I need a 2.5 inch Sata-150 and all that, but I'm not sure of the compatibility.

In addition, it is worth the money to make repairs like this on such an old computer? I wouldn't throw it out when everything else seems to work very well.

    Hello

In the Toshiba forum you will find here with some nice instructions how to replace a HARD drive on the different laptop models.

  • Re: Tecra A9 - 11M - replace the HARD drive with a larger

I have a Tecra A9 - 11 M with Windows XP Professional installed. I would like to replace the hard drive with a larger drive and install Windows 7 Professional.

Any suggestions on recommended records say 500 MB?

Difficulties to install Windows 7 on this model?

    Hey,.

    > Any suggestions on recommended records say 500 MB?
I assume you mean 500 GB and not 500MB, right? ;)

Well, the Tecra A9 already supports SATA interface and there is no limit of capacity on SATA interface, so you can install a 500 GB HARD drive or more (750 GB, etc.). Just make sure that it s 2.5 SATA HDD.

You can choose each brand of HARD drive because each model will not work. You can buy a Toshiba HDD, Western Digital HARD drive or another. No problem ;)

  • Satellite L300-A13 - how to replace the HARD drive?

I need to replace my drive hard because I got a disc error and I could hear noises from him. Someone knows the size of the current hard drive replace (either 3.5 SATA or whatever it is)?

No space memory but actual size, so it can fit inside my computer and someone know a tutorial to replace by yourself?

    Hello

To replace the HARD drive, you need a 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface. These 3.5 HARD drive you want to say are only for desktop PC s peut t used in laptops to buy a 2.5 so one.

But it makes no difference which manufacturing you buy the HARD drive or the size. Just look for a 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface.

Replace the drive is pretty easy: just remove the two screws on the underside of the cover of the HARD drive. You can exchange it.
I know because I have the same laptop. ;)

  • Equium - how to replace the HARD drive?

    Hello

I need to replace the hard drive on my Toshiba Equium.
Can someone tell me the procedure? I changed it once before, and I remember having to press one of the function keys when I turned on the laptop with the new hard drive installed.
Should I have the recovery disk when the laptop is turned on with the new hard drive installed?

    Thank you very much

    Tim.

    Hey,.

You should take a look in your user manual. Sometimes you will find a detailed how instruction replace the HARD disk, but it according to your laptop model.

If you swapped the HARD drive, you need to reinstall Windows. Therefore, you can take the Toshiba Recovery disk that will restore the initial setup in a few minutes with all the drivers and tools. You only have to boot from that drive and that s all! :)

  • Re: Satellite P200-178 - how to replace the HARD drive?

Is it really possible to replace the HARD drive on this model? I have another satellite & which was 2 screws & pulling on one leg, job done.

The P200 has an opening apparently get actually on the HARD drive but it gets you on the underside of the car, so I think that you will have to pass the upper part by means of the keyboard.

Can anyone help? I lost 70 pounds on a HARD disk that cannot be mounted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

As far as I know on all models, it of possible to swap the HARD drive.

According to the user manual on the underside of the laptop it is a case of HDD for HDD1 and HDD2. This coverage is provided by one or two screws, I think that should be deleted. After that, you are able to exchange the HARD drive.

Take a look on the underside. HARD drive swap is not complicated and can be done in a few minutes. :)

  • Qosmio X 500 - 10W - can I replace the HARD drive with another?

    Hello

I have a Qosmio X 500 - 10W with two drive HARD Toshiba MK5055GSX 500 GB 5400 RPM 8 MB? SATA II but is one of the hs so I'm wondering if I can be replaced by a more powerful style, drive HARD 750 GB 7200 RPM / min 16 MB Toshiba courses?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

Your question is a bit hard to understand, but I think you want to replace the HARD drive with another (faster) model, right?

Well, that s no problem. 7200 RPM hard drives works, they are a little stronger, but they're faster so if you need more performance without problem.
750 GB or more are also no problem because the SATA interface is not the limited capacity. Theoretically 1 TB or more should also work.

Anyway, you can buy the 750Go you mentioned that it will work. :)

I also can't any thaan further than the windows boot screen, so thanks in advance

    Hello

Your laptop is considered as coming with a 320 GB drive hard, but you can install just as easily a 500 GB or 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 57 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Regarding the upgrade your Ram, the maximum is only 8 GB (IE 2 x 4 GB Modules) - an example of an upgrade appropriate can be seen on the link below.
