Replication question
I have a 300 GB volume which currently holds 20 GB of files of database MSSQL (MDF, NDF, LDF)
This volume has never been reproduced in the past. Just now, when I created this volume to replicate to an Equallogic off-site, "pending data transfer" immediately jumped to more than 71 GB.
Why would it, as this volume has never been implemented for replication in the past so there shouldn't be any incremental change to synchronize, and the volume contains only 20 GB of total data?
TIA!
No, the table is a block level device, when a file is deleted by default that the info is not given in the table so that it can cancel the allocation of the blocks. There is a new standard called UNMAP that will do just that. But he had been in place from the beginning to UNMAP the blocks.
Windows Server 2012 and W2K8R2 with HIT kit 4.5 will do it. Or file system EXT4 linux also supports SCSI UNMAP.
However, currently UNMAP is NOT supported with replicated volumes.

Replication question break?
Hello
I am an engineer of VMware. We implement SRM with Dell storage. I'm new with replication of dell.
We have completed the initial replication of volume 5. We made this site (LAN) primary replication only.
My question is, can I start planning for replication of these volumes (on main site) before to move to the storage back to the site of the DR.?
We can stop the replication?
appreciate any suggestion.
Thanks and greetings
Tejas
Yes you can. Think before put you pause replication when you move the table allow you to finish all replication running.
Make sure that you can TEST all the interfaces when its on the site of DR, so that the port 3260 is open. Also, check the routers WAN to apply the ILO do not fragment. MPLS tends to ignore by default.

Dell FS7610 replication question
We currently have a FS7610 NAS and an EqualLogic PS6510E (with ~ 100 TB useful). Our company just bought another FS7610 and PS6510 for replication purposes (the two new units will reside in another data center) and in the coming months we'll probably buy a bunch more (FS7610 and PS6510s) which will also replicate each other. At this point, I don't know what to expect, but I am a little concerned about bandwidth Layer 3. I talked to a couple of sellers of Dell and got two different answers on this... but on a FS7610, replication happens on the front-end or back-end?
Thank you in advance!
In the case of the 76xx, replication is performed by the FS, not EQL table nodes, and it uses the subnet of the iSCSI network to perform replication.
Kind regards

SRM - HP EVA replication Question
Hi people,
Just need some advice - there are 2 Options of Configuration Command View EVA. It's the HP EVA virtualization Adapter Administrator Guide:
There are two configuration options for the recovery environment disaster with SRM and HP EVA
Adapter of Virtualization:
Command View EVA single Active Server in this configuration, the management of Command View EVA
Server manages the protected bays and active recovery. A second Command View EVA
Management Server manages protected and recovery bays passively.
NOTE:
In this configuration (during a failover failover or test) if the primary discovers EVA site command is
down, Command View EVA to recovery site is obliged to actively manage the collection table.
Command View EVA server assets Split in this configuration, each direction of Command View EVA
Server actively manages a single table (the local). Each direction of Command View EVA
Server manages the remote table passively.
My admin storage can only configure one active. I was setting up SRM earlier and arrived at the Array Manager section. What I leave me puzzled, it's when I pointed at DR SRM on the DR EVA Command View server IP it cannot connect. I logged in EV Command View rd to discover it was controlled by the EVA Command View Server Production - it is when the storage administrator showed me that it had configured Active unique. This mean I point times SRM managers table on the Command View EVA main site server IP? I did Labs with LeftHand VSA and it just seems odd to me, I don't know how MRS. will work if the main site is down?
It would really help if a person who has set up an EVA could point me in the right direction with this!
Thank you all!
Mike
P.S. If you receive error "Unable to launch SAN integration scripts to execute the command of discoverLuns", a renumerisations LUN twice in ESX, go out ViClient and log back with ViClient seemed to fix for me. Script calls not rescan LUNS correctly.
It is in the form of config of the sra, page 15 of the Guide EVA SRA Admin check
It's weird. I thought the format was: 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2
It goes the same for the password.

Error replication of question-
Hello
It is my first Thread in this Forum.
We have a problem in our ad. Let me first give an overview of the environment.
2 No. Ms in the forest. It reproduces with the other.
The two DC are VM on the VMware ESXi VSphare host.
previously, there was a DNS issue... each entry got removed both the domain controller. We have restored elementary school 2 months saved VM made by HP Server.
We again synchronized DNS secondary to primary domain controller. Its fine...
After some time, replication has been stopped.
We digonised and found that the event below...
*************************************
Journal name: Directory Service
Source: Microsoft-Windows-ActiveDirectory_DomainService
Date: 12/03/2015-11:14:23
Event ID: 1988
Task category: replication
Level: error
Keywords: Classic
User: ANONYMOUS logon
Computer: xxx - Primary.xxxxxxx .net
Description:
The replication of Active Directory Domain Services encountered the existence of objects in the next partition that were removed from the base of the Active Directory Domain Services to local domain controllers. Not all direct or transitive replication partners replicated in the deletion before the number of life tombstone of days past. Objects that have been deleted and garbage collected from a partition of the Active Directory Domain Services, but still exist in the partition writable to other domain controllers in the same domain, or read-only global catalog partitions, servers in other domains in the forest are known as "objects pending."
Source domain controller:
52C 29991-6165-4537-ac08 - 2726ce4e0dec._msdcs.xxxxx .net
Object:
DC = DR1380056, DC is xxxxxxx .net, CN = MicrosoftDNS, DC = DomainDNSZones, DC = xxxxxx, DC = net
The GUID of the object:
dc448323-f444-4D52-acc4-cf2ea252c7fe this event is currently logged because the source domain controller contains a waiting object which does not exist on the database of the local Active Directory Domain Services domain controllers. This replication attempt was blocked.
The best solution to this problem is to identify and remove all the outstanding objects in the forest.*****************************************
I used the registry change and the replication mode does drop... less secure replication...
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters
Replication consistency strict = 0Its was fine... for a while...
Our sys admin are reset some user password and a security update...
Still the same problem...
I did the loss of control of thing turn it off replication by using the repadmin command.
nothing has worked...
Inbetween goes for changed everything in the registry... I did a snapshot of the VM on both the virtual machine...
Now I restore snapshot in VM virtual machine in VMware...
now, the question raised...
1. I'm opening DNS/ad users and computers / other secondary domain controller the PDC console has not been added... give a stop icon but canable to see the secondary domain controller.
2. I executed the "repadmin /showrepl / verbose/all/cross"here is the output.

Question: We have configured replication vsphere in our environment and when replication is triggered according to the OFR start us below the questions on the virtual machines that are configured for replication.
Version for esxi: Patch 5.1 level 7
Virtual center of version 5.1
Source of storage - IBM v7000
Destination storage - Hitachi
Questions:
Events of breach RPO
Consolidation for the VM disk failure
Delta abandoned events
Time change events
NTFS error and warning (event ID: 137, 57)
RDP disconnect and ping does matter
Standby error
Volsnap error
Stop the server and offline issue
Install vmtools emits automaticallywell, in this case, we need to disable the standby of the end of the replication.
So that everything in triggering replication does not trigger the snapshot of the suspension.
Then test the if you get these errors.

Are thinking of duplication of table to the replication of Vsphere, a quick question
We currently use Array replication and plan to use the replication of vsphere for flexibility. Unfortunately, we have more than 500 virtual machines to protect - but it is another question and I hope MRS. deploy several devices that will help.
I can't determine which network interface, the replication traffic goes on:
1 Hypervizor ports between the ESX hosts (which are 1Gbit in my case) where VMS are?
2. pushed through vcenter somehow?
3 Vlan than VR devices are connected to the?
I have a 10 Gbps link between sites, trying to find how to use more than 1 GB, because the 3 options above are 1Gbit. Although the unit sat on a group of ports that is supported by the host ESX 10Gbit links - but I guess that the only real device of a 1Gbit NIC adapter.
Hello
Replication traffic is going:
1 VR source ESXi server at the remote site via custom protocol LWD (light-weight-delta) TCP ports 31031 and 44046.
2. outside in VR server via port 902 device and Protocol NFC ESXi host target, then the target data store.
Separate NICS for VR (isolation of network traffic) replication traffic - to GDL from source ESXi to GDL for server VR application and for inbound replication traffic target ESXi NFC are not available in the current versions, but are part of an RV to come free.
The VR machine using a NIC vmxnet3
For the current version, you might want to perform some custom routing/formatting via the ports 31031 (initial full synchronization) and 44046 (all the traffic from replication after the initial synchronization is complete).
Kind regards
Martin

Simple question vSphere replication NAS/SAN
We have two remote sites running vSphere and our main office, also running vSphere. We think of you use vSphere replication to provide a DR solution for two of our critical applications in these remote sites. One of these applications is running on a virtual machine on the remote site and is connected to a NetApp NAS. The second application is using EMC SAN to the other remote site. Our main office using EMC SAN for our vSphere.
I have a few questions about it.
1 can use replication of vSphere on the site that uses the NetApp storage? Will be replicated on our main site, EMC SAN disk data on NetApp storage?
2. don't only need 1 unit of replication vSphere on the site of the main office? And then another at each remote site? Or do we need a separate vSphere replication device at Headquarters for each remote site?
Thank you. Sorry for the newb questions.
Hello
1 vSphere replication is independent of the peripheral type storage. The changes are to the hard level. You can use different bays of storage on different sites.
2. If the remote sites have their own server vCenter Server, then you need a VR device at a remote site. If all sites are under same vCenter Server, then you need a device of VR. VRMS (server administration VR) is extension of vCenter Server and there's only a VRMS will be deployed by vCenter Server. The combined unit of VR contains VRMS + embedded DB for server VRMS + VR. There are also some additional device VR-server only, in case you have some hosts within the same server vCenter Server, but on a larger distance and replication traffic can benefit if she moves directly to the VR server closed to the target data store.

Some questions about replication
Hello
I have several questions with vSphere replication.
-Can I replicate a server ESXi isolated VM, without vCenter?
-If I can, you could turn on the VM as if necessary? because when I turn on the virtual machine, I manage in vcenter console
-If I reproduce it in vCloud, how should I? I need to download a camera in my office and the other in my cloud?
Thanks for help
Hello
-Can I replicate a server ESXi isolated VM, without vCenter?
You have vCenter Server to replicate virtual machines inside or between data centers. VR as a product is installed on vCenter level and is only available if you are using vSphere Web Client connected to the server vCenter.
-If I can, you could turn on the VM as if necessary? because when I turn on the virtual machine, I manage in vcenter console
vSphere replication is not disrupt the work of the virtual machine. It monitors which changes the VM and the changes are replicated
-If I reproduce it in vCloud, how should I? I need to download a camera in my office and the other in my cloud?
If you build your own private cloud using vCloud Director VR allows to respond directly to the vCD, as VR currently supports only VC as target. You can however check VMware vCloud hybrid Service: overview | United States if you want to replicate in VMware vCloud hybrid service, workloads
Hope this helps
Kind regards

File sharing and replication, some questions
Hi guys.
First of all, my sistem
A vsphere cluster 5.1, with 7 guest esxi with a shared storage (HDS).
So I have a few machines virtual replication to an external site, with a cluster of vsphere 5.1 with 3 esxi host. But a bad broadband bandwidth beetween the two sites.
There is one machine virtual replication with several activities of memory, and I will not reproduce his memory.
I read this article and says that isolated swap file in a different data store and not replicate this data store.
http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/Techpaper/srm5-perf.PDF
(see fig 19).
but I have a few questions:
-Store data file must be shared or a different data store peer esxi host?
-Vmotion host is not affected?
-Same datastore must exist in both groups?
-Impact on other virtual machines?
Thank you
Hello
Under normal circumstances, you should store the swap files in the same data store than the other files of the virtual machine. However, you need to prevent replication of swap files to avoid excessive consumption of band network bandwidth. In addition, certain providers of storage is recommended that you do not replicate files to Exchange. Only to prevent the replication of swap files if it is absolutely necessary.
If you use a replicated data store to Exchange files, you must create a data store replicated for all recovery sites and clusters protected both the protégé. The replicated data store should be visible to all the hosts in the cluster, or vMotion will not work.
It does not affect the other VM.
How to place the pagefile to the another data store

Replication between PS6010 and PS410 question
Dear friends
It takes backup volumes to the old array to new array-Old (PS6010 with firmware V4.3.6) - old table group
-New table (PS4110 with firmware V7.0.9) - new groupAfter I set up replication between two group when I try to replicate group volume to the New Group it fail with the error:.
iSCSI: unknown response codebut the new replication group to the success of the group without any error
is it possible to clone volumes from the old array to new array (online)?
Hello
Update the firmware of the former group first and then try again. Revisions that away are not tested nor supported. Firmware upgrade instructions have an array of compatible revisions.
Kind regards

question of replication vSphere
is it possible by means of keeping 24hrs rpo, then to 7 copies of virtual machines for the last 7 days of backup.
I tried, but it gives only the option to restore a virtual machine that is 24 hours old.
any possibility?
Yes, vSphere replication is capable enough to work, there is no such requirement to SRM. and JEREMIAH is also a feature built-in replication vSphere and certainly free of SRM. Just that you have to configure replication for a virtual computer by using the web client.
JEREMIAH is all about keeping a set number of snapshots on site of recovery for the virtual machine, so that after the success of the recovery of this virtual machine, you can go in the Snapshot Manager and return to one of these snapshots. Please note that during recovery of the virtual machine, it will not ask you instant witch you want to recover to, it's just going to get VM in its last State, then you must go to the Snapshot Manager to see these snapshots are preserved.

Questions about replication of virtual machines using EMC storage
Hello
If we have a configuration on 5200 VNX and ready to replicate to Dominican Republic
What are EMC replication Solutions, if not use Recoverpoint?
I have to add licenses of replication with the Suites of the app for that?and whether using Recoverpoint, it is essential to use SRM for replication can be configured using Recoverpoint and VNX licenses only?
and for another program installation is with 10 GB iscsi ports, what are the possible solutions?
Thank you
There are several choices for replication with EMC VNX. You can use Mirrorview. MirrorView/S (synchronous) is for short distances and Mirrorview/A (asynchronous) for longer distances and time of higher latency and low latency. You will need a license from EMC Recoverpoint or Mirrorview. Recoverpoint appliances can now be virtual with version 4. ISCSI is required for a virtual Recoverpoint deployment.
You don't have to use RS with Recoverpoint, although I would recommend that you do. SRM automates many manual steps that are necessary to retrieve your VMs. SRM will be integrated with Recoverpoint or Mirrowview and you will be able to script recovery plans. In the case of the manual recovery plans would be required and will need to be updated.
You can also duplicate with suppliers other than EMC software. VMware has built the replication that is fine. Veeam also sells software for replication.

The replication SAN and VMs Newbie question
We do not currently have shared storage, but it will be installed next month. I'm still trying to grasp the basic understanding of how it works with ESXi. My problem is that much of what I learned about VMware has been without the luxury of a San.
If I have some SITES A and b SITE.
Storage replication replicates data store SITE A to SITE B? (In general)
So what happens if VM1 E: drive mapped to the number of logic on the same Bay storage unit. VM1 will always have this high mapping to SITE B?
I would like some help understanding.
Storage replication replicates data store SITE A to SITE B? (In general)
In general, Yes. Storage replication actually doesn't care data on a LUN, but reproduced the LUNS on a block basis.
So what happens if VM1 E: drive mapped to the number of logic on the same Bay storage unit. VM1 will always have this high mapping to SITE B?
Basically, Yes, if all the LUNS are replicated / mirror. However, it depends on your storage system if the failover works transparently (for example using a HP/left storage) or if there is a manual of work required for failover.

Questions about replication configuration
Hello
We currently have the configuration of the following replication to a backup Timesten hot facility:
CREATE REPLICATION REP1
A store of DATA of ELEMENT
MASTERS ds on "host1".
SUBSCRIBED ds on "host2".
RETURN TWOSAFE
ELEMENT b DATASTORE
MASTERS ds on "host2".
SUBSCRIBED ds on "host1".
RETURN TWOSAFE
STORE ftappttprd on "host1" PREMISES COMMETTRE ACTION COMMETTRE
RETURN SERVICES OFF WHEN REPLICATION STOPPED
SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT ON
RESUME BACK 300
Ftappttprd on "host2" LOCAL STORE COMMIT ACTION COMMITTING
RETURN SERVICES OFF WHEN REPLICATION STOPPED
SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT ON
CVS BACK 300;
1)
(a) only the part of the sentence 'COMMIT LOCAL ACTION VALIDATION' implies whenever replication fails on the Subscriber, so the update will be hired locally on master? that is, it is actually becomes a commit sustainable.
(b) only apply to the timeout for replication scenario? What about other cases where commit at the Subscriber cannot be done.
(2) if we do not have the expression of DISABLE RETURN as above, would be 'SUSTAINABLE ON COMMETTRE' and 'SUMMARY BACK' always to news?
in other words, if we decide to stop the replication agent after failover mode standby
-service back end
-txn on master will commit sustainable
-the return service will resume automatically when the replication agent is started again (after the replication problem is fixed)
Thank you
MikeHere are the answers:
1)
(a) only the part of the sentence 'COMMIT LOCAL ACTION VALIDATION' implies whenever replication fails on the Subscriber, so the update will be hired locally on master? that is, it is actually becomes a commit sustainable.CJ > if there is a timeout of servcie to return for a transaction twosafe the default behavior is that the transaction state remains "pending" and the appl; ication must include logic to keep retrying the validation until it succeeds or the application decides to abandon. By configuring LOCAL ACTION COMMIT ENTER, when a timeout occurs the transaction committed locally the band except manipulation (or ignore) the return servcie timeout warningf application has no need to make special anythnin.
(b) only apply to the timeout for replication scenario? What about other cases where commit at the Subscriber cannot be done.
CJ > it applies to delays. If you get a different kind of validation error then the application must decide what to (force a local commit or rollback).
(2) if we do not have the expression of DISABLE RETURN as above, would be 'SUSTAINABLE ON COMMETTRE' and 'SUMMARY BACK' always to news?
CJ > COMMETTRE SUSTAINABLE can be valid deoending on other factors, RETIURN RESUME is not valid (or useful)
in other words, if we decide to stop the replication agent after failover mode standby
-service back end
-txn on master will commit sustainable
-the return service will resume automatically when the replication agent is started again (after the replication problem is fixed)CJ > I guess you mean "failure" of the day before. Yes, with this configuration, you should see the behavior that yopu described above. The curriculum VITAE of RETURN should not be necessary.
