Report of Guest OS disk space in an imported virtual machines list

So I try to make a list of OS from VMs listed in a CSV file disk space. I've seen other messages on disk space for all the virtual machines in a vcenter, however in this case, I would like to be more granular in isolating and report on virtual machines, I managed.

Here is a script that I found on the community, however this pulls all VMs rather then select it a few I have listed in my CSV. So far I came with the creation of a variable for each object, but my PowerCLI scripting experience is limited and I am not convinced that this is the best approach. Someone at - it suggestions? Can I use the Script of the VM Info but touch up a few points in the script to display the disc for my $vmlist only variable info? Thanks for any help or suggestion.

$vmlist = import-Csv "c:\Dump\VMSServers.csv" | ForEach-Object-Process {$_.} Vmlist}

##################

# Virtual computer information.

##################

$Report = @)

to connect-VIServer-server xxx-user "xxx" - password "xxx".

$vmguest = get - VM | Get-VMguest | where {$_.} State - eq "Running"}

{foreach ($vm to $vmguest)

{foreach ($disk in $vm.disks)}

$report += select-Object - InputObject $vm, $disk-property @{N = "VMName"; {E = {$VM.vmname}}.

@{N = "Path"; {E = {$Disk.Path}}.

@{N = "CapacityGB"; E = {[math]: round (($disk.))} {{(Ability) / 1 GB)}}.

@{N = "FreespaceGB"; E = {[math]: round (($disk.))} {{(FreeSpace) / 1 GB)}}.

@{N = "MemoryMB"; E = {$VM. VM.memorymb}},

@{N = "NumCPU"; E = {$VM. VM.numcpu}}

}}

$report | Export-Csv "C:\vmreport.csv" - NoTypeInformation - UseCulture

Disconnect-VIServer-server xxx - confirm: $false

In this case change the first line in this

$vmlist = import-Csv "c:\Dump\VMSServers.csv" | %{$_. VMName}

  • How to check disk space total used by virtual machine

    Dear team,

    I rec was a demand of the customer, he ask us to share the total disk space used by a virtual machine. I don't have any credentials to the total used space of control to verify. Is there a way I can check the disk space total used by the virtual machine offline.

    Note: we have implemented a virtual machine with the thin disk.

    concerning

    Mr. Vmware

    When you say that you have no credentials, I guess that this is designed for the guests, rather than to the ESXi hosts/vCenter Server operating systems! You can see the disk space used in the data store browser, executing CLI ls-lisa or by using a tool like RVTools third 3rd.

  • Disk space used by the Virtual Machine

    I'm under VMWare Fusion worm / 3.1.4 on a MacBookPro 2010 with Windows XP Pro installed.  In My Documents, there is a folder called "Virtual Machines".  It has a file in it, "Windows XP Pro 2.vmwarevm".

    The problem is that this file is 121,95 gigabytes!  Nearly half of the size of my hard drive.

    Question 1.  Does this make any sense?

    Question 2.  This file size can be reduced to something reasonable?

    Thank you!

    According to the information of the beam support Virtual Machine has 8, not 7, Snapshots.

    Without a support package for now present the only other suggestion is to delete all the snapshots, and then reduce the virtual hard disk of the applet of control panel of VMware Tools in Windows, and then Clean Up drive from the drives Panel in the settings of the Virtual Machine.

    I think it's possible to pull this information from vFoglight. SOM of our API calls should remove this information of the Victoria Cross.

  • Adding disk to the point of virtual machine VRA

    Hey,.

    I'm trying to add a disk to vra VM via a vro workflow element once the virtual machine is configured.

    I try to add the disk through vra 'reconfigure' action, I try to use the wf built-in plugin 'Requires resources Action'.

    the problem is that I can't get any action available to select when running Windows Firewall.

    I noticed that at the sight of the inventory, I can see all the items in stock vra but I see not all the actions listed under any item.

    I'd like to know if someone could try in its environment and post the result, or if it is possible (and perhaps easier) to add the hard drive.

    really need help to fix this problem or get no work around.

    VRA 7.0.1 + vro 7.0.1 same question with vro 7.0.

    Thanks in advance.

    Found the answer, this is the plugin which connected by a shared session.

    because of this, the user plugin was not right to see the actions.

    Thank you very much.

  • Copy of the virtual disk for use by another virtual machine

    Hi all! How can I copy a virtual disk file to a location for future use by another virtual machine? I tried to just copy the hard, but it did not work for me - the copy is about 1 KB size and I can not add it as a hard drive on another virtual machine. Can someone help me?

    OK, so this client web vSphere that you use, in this case browse datastore doesn't show you the two files.

    Please follow the steps below

    Please go to Cluster & host inventory

    Select your ESXi host

    go to the tab 'Manage'-> settings-> Security-> Service Profile, and then click the button CHANGE

    Start the SSH service.

    If please use WinSCP to connect to your Esxi host and navigate to the folder of the virtual machine as in the screenshot to the suite, I navigated to a folder that is my VM name: Win10A

    and it has a virtual disk, if I want to take the virtual disk of this virtual machine to a different VM, I need to copy the two files that are highlighted.

    the two are to train your virtual disk.

    Download these two files and download them to another folder where you second VM resides, then try to tie it with this virtual machine.

    mv *.* ./backup/
    cp ./backup/*vmx ./

    But after that, I got the error: "cannot change the power state of VM: can't open ' / * /Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk.»» The system cannot find the specified file.

    Please, help me to solve the problem.

    Once again apologize for my English :)

    I really don't see what could be causing the problem, except that there are some .lck files in the subdirectory "lock"!

    Anyway, if worry ends snapshots and the current state is what you need, you can follow these steps (which are close to what you have already done) to merge snapshots of virtual disk in and use this virtual disk to the virtual machine:

    • Close VMware Workstation
    • Create a new subdirectory and move the VM files and folders to backup purposes
    • "" since this subdirectory run: vmware-vdiskmanager-r "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" t 1 '... / X64.vmdk of Windows 7 '
    • Copy the .vmx file to the parent directory and edit it as follows:
      scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" --> scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x64.vmdk"

    Now you should be able to start the virtual machine with the cloned virtual disk.

  • How much space does need a virtual machine?

    Assuming that I have 100 VM Windows of 40 GB each on my data store, would I need 3.9 TB on my store data to account for all these virtual machines?

    I guess not, but how do I know real space?

    It is an appropriate approach.the 320 is the memory usage for all machines that I guess the 320's for all machines you will be virtualized.

    350 GB should be fine however with Exchange and SQL and their abiilty to spike, I would consider not to cut then station-may be looking at 512 GB -.

  • Guest member - % in the tab of the virtual machine is meaningless?

    HI - so I haven't read hot air balloon, shared, private and everthing on the vmware RAM allocation.

    However I still do not get the 'mem % comments' column in the tab of the virtual machine for a given cluster.

    For example, I have a machine that shows:

    -in windows Task Manager, total physical: 4 GB, available: 1 GB. Incur costs: 7 GB

    -in the "allocation of resources" tab vmware: private: 3.9 GB, ball 0, 5 MB compress, shared 95 MB. Consumption: 4 GB.

    BUT in the tab of the virtual machine to the host, I see: host mem 4 GB (ok) and guest mem %: 18%

    IT makes no sense as a guest mem % is supposed to represent the percent of GUEST memory usage - which in this case should be 75% or 100% depending on how you look at it, but certainly not 18 percent.

    As I understood the mem % calculated using something comments are called "active memory". Active memory is memory that has been actively used "currently" (I don't know what "currently" means in time quantified tho). What you see inside windows, in the Task Manager, is allocated in memory from the point of view of windows, but windows is seen only (depending on the setting of mem comments) using 18% of 4 GB or 720 MB. A nice information to have if you plan to make a reservation for this virtual machine and that you really want to know what to set the reserve at since the rest of the memory could be balooned (toggled) without any noticeable decrease in performance of the virtual machine.

  • Missing after pre-allocating to extra 40 GB hard disk space

    Hello

    I use Windows 7 with VMWare fusion and everything works fine except after a few days, I'm already low disk space.

    What virtual machine installation automatically allocated 40 GB by default Windows C: / / hard drive. On the settings tab, under the hard drive, I moved the slider up to 80 GB and checked the "pre-allocate disk space" option before applying the settings. It took a few minutes to complete and then the extra space was absent from the partition on my mac, but when I run windows folder C: / / is still only 40 GB, and I can't find where the missing space disappeared.

    Anyone know how I can develop either drive C to the 80 GB that was to be distributed on it, or otherwise restore disk space lost from my mac?

    Kind regards

    Jack

    Hi Jack,

    Welcome to the forums.

    After resizing the virtual disk, you must tell Windows 7 to extend its partition. Go to the management of records within your guest and extend your C: drive with available disk space.

  • VMWare EsXi 5.1.0 disk space

    Hello

    I have the following situation. A VM server EsXi 5.1.0 with two virtual machines.

    A virtual machine has two virtual disks of type thick lazy disposition to zero.

    The bootdrive is 1 hard disk drive HDD 2 data. From 1 to 80 GB hard drive put in service then the hard drive 2 has 120 GB put in service. I managed to increase the 80 GB with 10 GB drive because there was still space available in the data store so 2 months ago, I increased to 90 GB drive has worked perfectly.

    In the operating system on drive C (disc 1) I had only 3 GB of free again so I need more space, so that the data drive (disc 2) had 30 GB of free space.

    I thought when I decrease disk 2 with 10 GB and disk increase 1 with 10 GB of all be good. In the VSphere client, I edited the disksspace, but I noticed that I could not reduce the disk 2?

    Also, I could not return my settings? So now on the virtual computer will not boot and I get error ' not enough space on the data store.

    Can I return my settings and get the disc about the size of the 'old '?

    Thank you

    Jeffken

    Reduce a virtual disk is unfortunately not supported in the GUI (and the CLI). In order to decrease the size, you can use VMware Converter for example.

    Anyway, what you can do to be able to turn on the virtual computer as soon as possible - assuming that the host is not part of a cluster and you have not enough memory - is to put a reserve of memory for the virtual machine. The disk space required for the virtual machine swap file, which is created once the virtual machine is running - is equal to the amount of provisioned VM memory minus the reserved memory. So if you change this setting in order to reserve any memory, the paging file will not require any disk space.

    Note that with very low available space on the data store, you can run into issues when you create snapshots!

  • ESXi 5 - increase the disk space

    Hello

    Info:

    Size of the disk hard server: 4 TB

    What are the limits on the increase in size of virtual machine disk space Windows Server? For example, if C: win2k8 is 80 GB, can I increase to say a maximum of 4000 GB (eg. only 1 VM on the host)?

    I get a new server and I would like to give the VMs small readers and increase disk space needed in the future, if necessary. How will I know how much space the augmentable drive by?

    If I start with young readers, does this mean that I won't be able to increase the disk space, as well as virtual machines with more readers?

    Thank you

    Sorry, my bad. The size of the virtual disk does not depend on the HW version, it's just 5.5 ESXi and VMFS5.

    In any case, some words of clarification:

    • You can create virtual disks with up to 16 TB, in c# Client
    • Large virtual disks > 2 TB-512Bytes (with up to 62 to 64 to no) are not officially supported in c# Client, even if this can work for drives <=16TB (see=""> vSphere 5.5 storage improvements part 1: 62 TB VMDK)
    • Note: You cannot manage VMs with HW version 10 in the c# Client.

  • Odd results when trying to expand disk space - help please

    When I created my Windows Vista VM with merger originally, I allocated 20 GB of disk space. Now, I want that expand to 30G. I followed the steps outlined in the instructions and Fusion of the reports that I have 30G of space dedicated to the virtual machine. However, when I'm inside Vista and check the size of the C drive, it continues to report 20 G. How can I get Vista using the extra 10 GB of space I allocated?

    Thank you

    Danny

    You have extended the volume in the disk of Vista Manager?  (Click on the start menu, right click on "Computer", click on 'Manage', then click on "Disk management". Right-click on the volume, then click on 'Extend the Volume', etc.).

  • Evaluate the consumption of disk space

    I would like to be able to extract the virtual machines list that shows me the actual size of the files vmdk, seen the hypervisor and the customer. In this way, I would be able to determine which VM is Sdelete SVM surgery candidates.

    All the scripts I've met until now doesn't give me the size put in service of a vmdk file.

    Any advice?

    The following will give you a dump all the files that make up your vDisks by VM's "gross"

    foreach($vm in Get-VM){
        $diskFiles = $vm.ExtensionData.LayoutEx.Disk | %{$_.Chain} | %{$_.FileKey}
        $vm.ExtensionData.LayoutEx.File | where{$diskFiles -contains $_.Key } |
        Select @{N="VM";E={$vm.Name}},Name,Size
    }

    With grouping, you can do subtotals by VMDK and VM size
