Requirement of 12 CPU Oracle

Plan to install Oracle 12 on 64-bit Linux.

What is the recommended number of CPUs?  In general, a higher number is preferred as quadcore or higher.  But in the cloud environment, more processors means the higher the price to pay, sometimes, the difference is quite significant between 1 CPU and 4 processors.

For a database (10 GB now, will grow) and moderate traffic, with spike casual in simultaneous access, any suggestion if the processors?

Thank you

Eugene

It all comes down to your application, and it's nothing that we have no idea. If it is an app that you buy from a person, and then ask them. If it's your own application, you will have to do some tests.

  • CPU Oracle patch process for Oracle shared houses-Stand alone case

    Hello-

I have a scenario where I apply CPU/Security Patch [CPUOCT2013] on Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 on Linux. I have 3 databases SID1, SID2 & SID3 all sharing the same $ORACLE_HOME and contain the init and spfiles files in the same directory of $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and other. Now, I need to apply the patch on a SINGLE instance of SID1 (for which I have approval for the stopping of the DB, which is a requirement for the processor). What is the method to be applied to the single SID and not others? I know that we apply patch to ORACLE_HOME, so I am confused, that way I can move forward. Please respond with your expertise and experience.

    Thank you

Your process sounds good to me - the best way to check is to do this in a test environment that is closest (if not identical) to the production as possible. You will also need to update file/etc/oratab as necessary to reflect the new OH

The environment variables that I refer above are at the OS level, not in the init.ora. See Oracle database administration. If there are any values in the init.ora that point to the old OH (I can't think at all), who will have to be changed too.

  • installation of Oracle 11 g grid control

Can I install base data, weblogic and repository grid control in a single server, right? Based on the doc for oracle grid control, it seems good. Please notify.
    Thank you

    S.

    Hello

    Which option is the best?

If you have a CMS and repository in different servers, you can have a more scalable configuration. More, you can also install several WHO (on multiple servers - 1 SGD per host) as shown in this overview:

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11857_01/install.111/e15838/overview.htm#CJAHHFEA

Of course, this type of architecture is more powerful and allow you to give more resources (CPU, memory) to EM Grid control. If you have hundreds of targets to monitors and dozens of users who can connect and use EM grid control, it may be useful to use this feature ( load balancing, several WHO,...):

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11857_01/install.111/e16847/install_addln_oms_slnt.htm#BABBGGAH

However, if you have just a few tens of targets and a few users who may connect occasionally to the EM grid control, you can also install all {repository + WHO} on the same server.

Anyway, in all cases, you must take into account related Harware requirements:

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11857_01/install.111/e15838/appdx_hardware_reqs.htm#CACJBDGF

And also, it is important to know the Port number used by any component to communicate with each other:

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11857_01/install.111/e16847/firewalls.htm#i1005951

    Hope this helps.

Anyone seen this before? I have googled and looked for the error, but I have not found anything useful. I have databases Oracle similar setup running in W3K on a physical box and that works very well and makes me think if it has something to do with running in VMware.

Any pointers/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Bad situation. You encounter internal errors, which generally require the help of Oracle support. Oracle VMware is not supported, so support will refuse to help him. They will ask to reproduce the problems in a supported environment, but here, everything is fine - as you say.

It's always a risk to run Oracle software in an unsupported environment.

From engine E3 updates, the IPS uses a different algorithm to manage his idle

time and spend more time vote to reduce the latency of packets. Changes included E3, one

Difficulty with a problem with a latency during low traffic loads. The fix was to have sensorApp

Check buffers packets on the driver more often. So the package could be removed from the

queue the fastest rider for analysis rather than wait for the pilot fill the queue

before you pass it to sensorApp. This increased audit results in an increase in

    CPU usage.

The measurement of the CPU usage can / will be high, due to the amendment to

E3 engine, remote sensing interfaces for more polling data. It's OK like if/when the

sensorApp process requires more time CPU, the amount that is using the mark is

scaling dynamically to useful to determine the actual workload of sensor.

So don't worry about the HIGH CPU but check the percentage of overhead on the IPS.

Please report if there are still unanswered questions.

  • Adding extension to Interface to 4235 4FE - requirements, warnings?

    I'm under version 4.1 (1) S48 on 4235 sensor.

I want to monitor two separate subnets in the DMZ with a sensor. 4.1 supports several interfaces of promiscuity, it seems that the addition of the 4FE interface card support this well. Bandwidth is not really a concern, these connections are not heavily used T - 1 connections.

My questions are related to the impact on the sensor. Will there be additional requirements of memory/CPU by adding more surveillance interfaces? I noticed that it also seem to be a new plug-in memory available for sensors, I was wondering if this is related?

From a point of view of configuration, I assumed that, for the moment, the same signature settings will be applied to all virtual devices (virtual sensor is equivalent to a physical interface of remote sensing)? It is very good for the current application, but I wonder if it is will be supported for different signature by virtual sensor parameters in the future?

Any reserves, traps, etc. that you can share on the displacement of several interfaces of remote sensing would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chad

    Traps to keep in mind:

4FE card is attached to four 10/100 ports. The standard onboard sniffing port is a 10/100/1000. So be aware of the limit of 100 Mbps on FE 4 10/100 ports.

Since you are dealing with only T1 lines that won't be a problem for you.

The performance of the IDS-4235 is based on the total bandwidth of all interfaces combined.

If I remember correctly the IDS-4235 performance rating is about 250 Mbps.

So let's say that you plug in 3 interfaces of the 4FE, then 3 interfaces could send up to 300 Mbps of traffic and overwhelm the sensor performance.

It could be worse if we consider the 1000 Mbps card on board. So, theoretically with all 4 plugged FEs and the edge sniffing plugged as well, you could theoretically send 1.4 Gbps of traffic to this sensor years 250Mbps seriously overwhelm.

In you case to connect only 2 ports currency limit you the total maximum rate 200 Mbps (still more low whereas you have T1 connections) so it will not be a problem for you, with performances of the 4235 250 Mbit/s.

With regard to the other CPU/memmory. There is no additional CPU or available for the 4235 memmory. The additional memmory was only for old models of 4210 and 4220.

You do not need anyway. 250 Mbit/s performance is based on the provided memmory and cpu regardless of the number of interaces since it's overall performance and not by the performance of the interface.

When version 4.1 is loaded with the 4FE each of the interfaces is usually attributed to "interface group 0" and default is off (stop). You should make sure that the interface you are using are indeed assigned to the "interface group 0" and then activate the interfaces that you want to use (no downtime).

You are right to assume that version 4.1 supports a single virtual sensor (single set of configurations of signature) which is applied to all interfaces.

Indeed the virtual sensor is applied to "interface group 0" and all interfaces are placed in group 0. The only group 0 is currently supported for a single virtual sensor is currently supported.

Support for multiple virtual devices / groups is planned for a future release (could not begin to speculate when that can happen).

Since a single virtual sensor is used, it is sometimes confusing determine on what interface things occurred.

Each event lists on which interface the packet that triggered the alert has been detected. SO for example with a sweep of ping host first 4 pings can be seen on an interface but the 5th ping that triggers the alert can be seen on the second interface; This translates into the second interface in the alert.

  • Ask about Oracle certification for the Admin path

Hi I have the underside of certifications under my belt:-1. Oracle Certified Associate of PL/SQL Developer 2. Oracle PL/SQL Developer certified professional that I would give Oracle Database 11 g administration Associate certification. I see that I need to give exams 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 for. So my question is whther I need to give Z051 review? Keeping in mind, I traced level OCP, authorized as a PL/SQL Developer. Thanks in advance...

How can I get confirmation on this officially?

    See the FAQ:

    https://education.Oracle.com/pls/web_prod-PLQ-dad/db_pages.GetPage?page_id=82

Look for the "SQL Fundamentals".  One of the questions will be: "How long can I use an exam to earn a certification? "Exam results expire?"

The answer is: "do not expire the results of exams, but certifications are retiring, and that affects your older test results will help you to get certified or not. "

If a specific review meets a requirement in a current certification path, it does not matter if you have passed the exam. "For example, if you have taken SQL, # 1Z0-001 review in 1997, you can always use it meets the requirement of SQL for Oracle database current certification."

If you do not trust that - the moderator of the forum, Brandye, can come in a day or two to confirm what I said.  However, there is no doubt.  The question comes up fairly often.  In fact, I wrote a blog on this subject for more than a year (although this would not even "official", of course):

    Bianca,

Everything I've read on this point to a need to install/reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package for windows OS 2008.

You will need to download the appropriate version for your microsoft form system.  There is a lot of information on this topic.  Just

search on the web, and it should help you in the right direction.

    Thank you!
    Matt

    Thank you and best regards.

The error message '[Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] data source name not found and no pilot by specified default {IM002}' explainind auto - DG4ODBC is not able to find the ODBC DSN you created.

In your file init of gateway, you have set up the DSN: HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = testmysql

And according to the administrator of ODBC in Windows screenshot, you have created a DSN called testmysql - unfortunately you created as a USER DSN. But DG4ODBC needs a SYSTEM DSN. The reasin why he needs a system DSN is that, by default the Oracle listener is running in the local system account. Therefore, when create you a USER DSN ODBC it can be access by the user who created it, but no one else can use it - and also not the local system account which serves as the Oracle listener. If you need to create a system DSN that each user on this computer can use the DSN (including the local system account).

    HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /usr/lib64/libodbc.so

    Set ODBCINI=/etc/odbc.ini

and try again a new SQLPLUS session.

    Kind regards
