• Integration Microsoft DevStudio 2010 and VMware Lab Manager

  Microsoft DevStudio 2010 seems to provide a nice integration in a virtualized environment of laboratory course using their own hypervisor. What is VMware plan to integrate this? Someone else began to focus on the integration yet? In order to manage isolated networks, they seem to have a lab test controller talking agents, so different test agents in the "closed" configurations can easily be found out.

  I already have a wind front of genius as far as my current LM infrastructure goes.

  Microsoft plans to add support for ESX by SP1 environment according to their team. How that factors in Lab Manager I don't know. In addition, their installation on the hypervisor isn't exactly great. It requires the VM already be made by hand. So there is no, automagic dpeloy the VM to test cancel them the deployment when done. So from what we have seen, it seems to not integrate yet. I found it very disappointing. However, they have the facilites for before and after series of tests shares. So our next step is to see if you use the API we can deploy and Undeploy of an image of Lab Manager and pass through the IP address of the machine newly deployed to the Test Manager. It should work, but we have not begun to this topic but, as we always try to make sure that we understand everything that happens in the process of the hypervisor.

• Lab Manager acceleration kits / required licenses?

  Hello!

  We are currently using ESXi and plan to move to centralized test Lab Manager lab. The estimates are based on the acceleration kit that used to be available at about 4-5 k €, which seemed to include VI 3 licenses that are required for the Lab Manager to run on top of ESXi (or if whatever the basis ESXi does not support).

  Now I can't find the acceleration kits more 'Buy Lab Manager', instead I find licenses for Lab Manager only.

  Now I read everywhere that the vCenter is necessary and even messages that describe that vCenter foundation is not sufficient to run the laboratory Manager. However no official 'that's what you need to do if you want to get Lab Manager' running.

  To be honest, if the acceleration kits were gone for good, licensing begins to be as clear as some States large company in their regulatory policy, "must be this version of the database server", but do not worry to mention what license you need for the said server or background Windows server...

  I would like to know the price of 'minimum' (to continue) Lab Manager on top of bare metal, start-up costs and maintenance renewals when the initial support runs.

  With regard to reading, 2 or 4 processors as it seems to count.

  Sorry, that seems so difficult.  To sort through all of this:

  • Lab Manager requires ESX Standard or Enterprise.  It does not currently run on ESXi, but it's on the Roadmap (cannot discuss dates here).

  • Lab Manager 3 requires vCenter (Lab Manager 2 does not work).

  • vCenter Foundation is untested, but should work (but can only manage up to 3 knots).

  • ESX Foundation is not supported by the Lab Manager.

  • The laboratory director is authorized by the node (the server Lab Manager is free).

  • Lab Manager Server runs on Windows Server 2003 and can run on a virtual machine

  • VirtualCenter runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, or Windows Server 2003 and can also run on a virtual machine.

  Thus, the minimum subscription is:

  • ESX Standard for two processors

  • Lab Manager for two processors

  • vCenter Foundation

  • Windows licenses you need for the Lab Manager server and VirtualCenter Management Server.

  Installing vCenter Management Server and server Lab Manager on the two virtual machines on this host ESX and use their local drive to store the virtual computer images.

  Such a system doesn't scale well, of course.  When you size, you will need to add the following:

  • Shared storage (NFS, iSCSI, or FC)

  • More ESX and Lab Manager licenses

  • vCenter Standard or Premium, instead of Foundation.

  I have created a new model using the Lab Manager and install Windows XP 64-bit on it.  When the virtual machine has been cancelled and I tried to publish... I have the following error Publishing...

  This 64-bit Windows system requires the package to perform the configuration of comments.

  When the sysprep package must be on the labmanager... I have a WinXP_64 directory, located in...

  Server\Tools\LMTools\Sysprep C:\Program VMware Lab Manager the Lab Manager server.  I also ran sysprep on the master, that I am trying to publish.  Anyone who encountered this?

  I tried the Ldap synchronization with the server of LM in a working group, but also, it does not work.

  Tried with the domain admin user, manually add the ldap port, it was left empty, different DN, nothing worked.

  I think uninstall LM, rename the virtual computer and reinstall LM. I don't know if it will solve this problem.

  the 'test' LDAP settings actually trying to find the account provided credentials.  It's like a back loop... I should be able to find me before as I find other people.

  If the test account is not in the basic DN path of research, but can locate other accounts then it should.

  Hi, now I'm choosing the license type for my gateway.

  Regarding now I can't manage through Virtual Center more than 3 knots.

  But I have a question. Can I use VirtualCenter Server Foundation License with VMware Lab Manager 3.0?

  You can use vCenter Server Foundation with PF3. We currently have 3 standard ESX licenses and a vCenter Server Foundation and it works very well. The only limitation is that you cannot manage more than 3 guests, but in your case it does not appear that it will be a problem.

  for VMware View Manager, the installation is done on a W2k3 Server (can be a virtual machine).  You can download a trial which has

  VMware ESX 3.5

  VMware vCenter Server

  VMware View Manager

  VMware View deal

  Since you already have ESX, you just need vCenter (if you haven't) View Manager and composer (if you use linked clones)

  In addition, you can consult the Administrator's guide, it will give you instructions on how to configure the display.

• Requirements of Lab Manager

  We are looking at a minimum Lab Manager configuration for a client. We will be hosting, installation and management of the environment. We'd start to a minimum and to extend the environment if it earns interest.

  1. License: I understand that we will need at least a license VSphere 4.0 Standard as well as a license Lab Manager correct? Anything else?

  2. Infrastructure: We would like to have a single host VSphere and run all on local disk to start. Is this a supported configuration?

  3. Expansion: It will be relatively simple to add a 2nd VSphere host and go to the shared storage later? Just want to check it is a way to get there without a complete reconstruction.

  4. Can I isolate the distinct customer environments and grant permissions accordingly?

  I also try to estimate how much it will take to actively manage this once we have in place. My hypothesis Lab Manager is designed so that the end user can build their own test environments with little outside assistance.

  2. If by "vsphere host" you mean ESX host, Yes.

  For the record, I generally run in problems of considerable achievements on local disk, especially if this local drive is SATA.  You can run vms win2k3 minimally two (one for vsphere, a laboratory Manager) and then all SMV lm on top of that.

  3. Yes.  It is relatively easy to get the hosts side (still once I presume you mean esx host) and shared storage.  A tool, ssmove, is supplied with the laboratory Director to make migrating

• vCenter 4.1 update level & Lab Manager

  Hello

  I upgraded to vcenter 4.1 and have begun upgrading our 4.1 esx host.  We have a Lab Manager cluster and I got to spend 2 to 3 hosts for ESX4.1... Currently, all Lab manager VMs are running on the ESX host 4.0 remaining in the cluster of Lab Manager.  I'm unable to migrate virtual machines to host 4.0 to ESX 4.1 two other guests offshore in this cluster to improve this host to esx 4.1.  When I select a VM to migrate, I get the following after error message select a host ESX4.1:

  "A general system error.  The virtual machine requires labmanagerhostserver/system.service.vmware.vsla labmanagerhostserver service, which is not available on this host "."

  Before the upgrade to vcenter 4.1, Director of the laboratory has been upgraded to 4.0.2

  Any hellp to resolve the above error is much appreciated.

  I myself have strange problems with 4.1.

  I have stopped using 4.1 at the moment and re - install 4.0 on all new blades instead.

• Relationship of Lab Manager and vSphere

  My shop starts to think about his Lab Manager architecture design, and we have some questions about the relationship between vSphere and Lab Manager.

  (1) can Lab Manager leverage of resources defined outside its host vSphere environment?

  (2) must LM be hosted in a specific vSphere environment to effectively exploit the scene-to-production in this environment vSphere features?  In other words, what is the impact to the staging functionality when you move a virtual machine from a workspace of LM to a VSphere environment that does not host the environment of LM?

  The reason we ask is because we already have production environment vSphere, and we plan to install vCenter Lab Manager within this environment or install LM in a separate vSphere environment.

  All used 'resources' must be inside a vCenter server, and all objects must be contained within a single "Data center" object in the hierarchy.

  If the vCenter for production is not the same as Lab Manager, you must export the Configuration of LM in an SMB share (requires a classic ESX host in the middle of LM), and then import it to the appropriate location.

  I did not notice problems with Lab Manager VMs-by-side with use of regular production.  Just separate the ESX hosts in a dedicated Cluster or a Pool of resources.

• Lab Manager dependencies on vCenter and terminology

  I just Lab Manager, of course with ESX and vCenter.  I know very little about Virtualization, as this issue will prove.  What are the activities of configuration required on vCenter for Lab Manager able to build models, installation configurations and share library configurations?

  Also, I'm trying to get my head around the difference between the data store, data center and media store.  My current knowledge are:

  A data store has a one-way relationship to one or more hosts.  If storage is on a specific host (physical hard disk for example) then the data store has a relationship one of exlclusively with a single host.  Any file a host or a virtual machine can read/write can be read/written on this data store.

  A data center is a logical collection (non-brique and mortar) hosts, data warehouses and virtual machines.  A data center can aggregate various data stores in a single logical storage available to all virtual machines area?  Or another flavor of physical storage can same issue on a Server Windows 2008 physical logically be conifgured such as NFS, and can share NFS join a data center?

  A media store is a special part of a data store managed by the Manager of laboratory exclusively for the storage of files ISO for the construction of models in the laboratory Manager.  Is a media store part of a data store or part of a data center?

  Is a model of vCenter the same model Lab Manager?

  Any clarification on these questions would be more useful.

  Good questions! Welcome to the Forums as well!

  Your description data store is pretty right on. With the exception of the now for the storage of the local host, new technologies progressed to virtualize in the shared storage by the use of devices to Vritual Server.  Companies like HP lefthand and Openfiler to name a few.

  With regard to the issues of data center

  No, he learn better to keep data warehouses between HA/DRS separate clusters.  Now between the host in a cluster you "will share stroage" for the use of the DRS, HA or Storage vMotion.

  Yes you can - use Openfiler VSA to connect the two iSCSI LUNS and NFS for ESX. As long as the ESX host can access the virtual machine through the network.

• Lab Manager Server in a domain?

  Hello

  What is position of everyone by joining the LM server in a domain? I know that the installation guide does no recommendation as to whether, it should / should not be part of a domain.

  I know that within 2.5 days, they have explicitly indicated that it should be a stand-alone server.

  It should really be part of a domain to Lab Manager 4.  Setup requires a COMPLETE domain name to be associated with it anyway, with a static IP address.

• Internet access for virtual machines in Lab Manager

  Our lab environment is configured separately from corporate network and only some public IPs are able to access the internet. How I would install machinery in the Director of the laboratory to access the internet?

  For example, IP range - 64.x.x.x. Creation of a network model with these IP addresses attached to physical networks and external public would give me access to the internet?

  You would have to create a physical network that is attached to a vSwitch or Distributed Switch that can connect to this network of 64.x.x.x.

  If configure you a Pool of IP, Lab Manager can manage physical network IP assignments to the virtual machines.  so if the virtual machines require Internet access, then they will need to access this network (somehow).
