  I recently had to do this in one of my PC and it took three days complete (!) for the Windows Update process finish.  One day find updates, one day to download and one day to apply.

  To add to the frustration, during downloads, progress 'freeze' to zero percent!

  So, I had it got stuck - but she didn't - and this is important!  Go to C:\Windows\Distribution.  If there are files and folders, Windows Update works, it is simply not updated status information.

  I got the upgrade for the free update to Windows 10 on my laptop and restarting the first time I noticed that all the icons and background were gone, and the only thing on the black screen was my Advanced System Care Pro Performance Monitor that is always pinned on the desk by chance, since it is the only way to restart my computer now. I have to restart my laptop 3 times until all the icons appear on the screen, then I have about 5-10 seconds quickly hitting the new button start Windows and then the settings button and quickly reached the Firefox Logo that works also fortunately still.   My HP elitebook 6930p who basically has the same hardware as you ran W8.1 very well.

  He also ran the first 2 preview W10 relies very well.

  All versions since that time, the ricoh cardbus controller then gives an error code 12 (resources).

  I reported this bug to MS and I noticed there were other models HP affected as the 8440p.
