Resources and memory

We have 2 ESX servers, look at the summary for each, tab I see resources (CPU, memory usage) are used less, but if I look at the configuration tab - memory, I see a different image, (see attached), I'm running out of memory? What is the difference between the two?

For the first time ask your question, I will assign point (dono how), thanks for the help.

! file:///C:/DOCUME1/asheikh/people of the COUNTRY1/Temp/moz-screenshot.png!

These figures represent the total memory available.  If take you the listed total memory and subtract the system memory and the memory of the Service Console will come to you with the exact amount listed next to Virtual Machines.  This value is the amount of memory available for virtual machines.  It is sometimes confusing when you have a server with 64 GB and you end up with only 56 GB of available memory, but ESX still takes little memory and which must be taken into account.

Hope this helps clear things upward.

    Hello, VicMware-

You can get the host with the free CPU, or with the most free memory resources, using the following:

    ## get the host with the most free CPU cyclesGet-Cluster myCluster0 | Get-VMHost | Select-Object Name, @{n="CpuMhzFree"; e={$_.CpuTotalMhz - $_.CpuUsageMhz}} | Sort-Object -Property CpuMhzFree -Descending | Select -First 1

  • Allocated memory and memory resource limit

    Hello

I'm trying to get a better understanding of the memory allocated for a virtual computer when memory limit is set.

    For example:

I created VM1 with 1 GB of RAM.  Subject, I left 0 by default.  But under the limit, the default value is unlimited.  I would indicate that Unlimited VM1 can use as much memory as it needs and that the ESX host can provide.

If I set the limit to 2 GB, it does mean that VM1 can use more than 1 GB of RAM configured on built but can use up to 2 GB of RAM? From the file pdf resouce management, it appears that once you set the limit, the amount of memory configured on built is ignored, is that correct?

CPU and memory limits default to unlimited. When the limit of memory is unlimited, the amount of memory configured for the virtual machine when you create becomes its implicit limit in most cases.

    chukarma wrote:

I created VM1 with 1 GB of RAM.

Think of this parameter as being equivalent to the amount of RAM that you install on a physical machine. The guest operating system can NEVER more than this amount.

Subject, I left 0 by default.  But under the limit, the default value is unlimited.  I would indicate that Unlimited VM1 can use as much memory as it needs and that the ESX host can provide.

The limit is use to restrict a virtual machine on your part until his assignment. For example, if you - for some reason-wanted to configure your virtual machine with / 3GB, but her access to more than 1 GB, you would set the attribution to 3 GB (it's how the guest operating system might think there), still set the limit to 1 GB - this is the maximum that ESX would allow the virtual machine to use at any time.

If I set the limit to 2 GB, it does mean that VM1 can use more than 1 GB of RAM configured on built but can use up to 2 GB of RAM?

    No.... See the previous discussion.

From the file pdf resouce management, it appears that once you set the limit, the amount of memory configured on built is ignored, is that correct?

    # If it is what deduced you, while the document needs to be clarified. The virtual machine can NEVER use physical RAM more than its allowance.

CPU and memory limits default to unlimited. When the limit of memory is unlimited, the > amount of memory configured for the virtual machine when you create becomes sound > implicit limit in most cases.

It is said that if the limit is 'Unlimited' (the default), then the 'quantity of memory configured for the virtual machine' (i.e. attribution), becomes the limit. It's just a convoluted way of saying that the virtual machine is unable to use more is attributed to him.

See the Documentation for virtual vSphere on Computer Configuration here: Library of vSphere 5.5 - Virtual Machine Configuration

According to the document, the name of privilege 'virtual machine. Configuration.Change resources' allows you to change the configuration of a set of nodes of virtual machine resources in a given resource pool.

You can edit or create a new role that disable this privilege.

Clone the existing role assigned to the administrator of the virtual machine, and then change the cloned role.

On the privilege, go to the virtual machine > Configuration > uncheck the resource of change

Go to host & clusters, change the role of admin of vm of existing role to the new (cloned role) who does not have access to the resources for change.

Now the vm admin not able to set up reserves, limit or actions on both the CPU and memory - but the user should always be able to change the number of vCPU or the size of the memory.

  • How to set the processor affinity and memory.

We have explicit recommendations of our application provider to set the processor affinity for one of our virtual machines running their product. However, this process is not quite clear to me despite the available docs. We are company ESXi 5.1 more.

By looking at the tab "resources" for the parameters of the virtual computer you see under CPU:

Actions (I would do that quite high so that it never goes to confront other good?)

    Booking

    Limit

The requirement is to set aside x cores for the virtual machine while it is never claim to waiting or resource. They would also potentially implement affinity memory related to the same socket for the effectiveness of the NUMA node.

We have a host with 2 8-core processors with 256 GB of memory. I'm not worried about the affinity of memory. This should be as simple as the control that the 'reserve any memory comments' correct?

Is it simpler just set up a pool of resources for cela CPU and memory? The only concern I have is it if the processor uses the same memory channels. We do not want a CPU into a socket using the channel memory of another plug for this virtual machine.

And it's too late to go back to physics for this system.

Eeghads! Just FYI, the processor affinity is almost never what a seller really wants, even if they think they do. I can imagine there are valid use cases, but I spoke with several vendors who recommend this, and they were all wrong.

From what I understand in your summary, the application is sensitive to the latency of the CPU. If the physical compute capacity, actions and reservations will address the latency. Latency is the only reason why they want to set the affinity, or are there others? If there is other, know what they are, because there is a good chance to those who are also invalid reasons. The processor affinity tends to exacerbate the problems you're having with loans time CPU and can often cause latency application MORE CPU than that without it. Yes, you can set up reserves of CPU to address these issues for this particular virtual machine, but you made life more difficult for the CPU scheduler. DRS involved in the loan time CPU, which means she won't necessarily move these other virtual machines on this host, even if they are jointly stop like crazy. While we're on the subject, this virtual machine would need to be excluded from automatic DRS migration, since you cannot vMotion with the processor affinity configured. It also means the virtual machine must be powered whenever his current host goes into maintenance mode.

In any case, verification 'reserve any memory comments' will not affect memory locality. Will just leave all the pages of virtual memory with physical memory pages (another side effect interesting is that creates the virtual machine is no longer a pagefile on the boot). If you REALLY have to set the affinity to the CPU/memory, memory affinity can be set by changing the settings of the VM, the tab "resources", select Advanced Memory, and you can configure NUMBER here. In addition, if you had already seen it, the processor affinity is configured in the tab "resources", under Advanced CPU.

I highly recommend you challenge the seller and ask if reservations CPU are sufficient. The planner of UC is already aware NUMA. VCPUs how they ask, anyway? Unless they want to more than 8, it is unlikely to split the virtual machine.

  • Toshiba A50-frequency of 106:FSB Bus and memory problem

    Hello
I have a problem with my new Toshiba A50-106. There are Celeron M 1, 5 GHz inside. That all specifications for this processor FSB speed should be 4x100MHz and for my memory bus speed should be 2 x 133, but when I check in SiSoft Sandra 2004 I see 4x187MHz (748 MHz) FSB and the speed of the Bus of Mem 2x249MHz (4 98 MHz). I can't fix it myself, because there is no such option in the BIOS and there is no standard software from Toshiba.
Consequence of this is the problem of the temperature of my cpu. It is on average 54 c in an idle state.
Perhaps you have had the same problem or knows what is in him and you can help me.
What is a temperature average of your Celeron M?

    Thank you in advance,

    Hi michael,.

to your first question, have you run Sandra 2004 in battery mode because in battery mode CPU manages to set the speed of the FSB and memory also bus speed!

So, try once more on AC power mode and let me know the results.

Also, you should check these results with different bechmarking systems because these programs work differently.

@ temperature problem: there is problem o with 54 HP. The home page of intel, said a 125 C is the maximum and then the CPU stops automatically!

I think that your graphics card shares its main memory with your RAM and you should be able to adjust the amount of memory allocated to your VGA card since then in the BIOS. The maximum value allowed is 128 MB and can be selected in UMA memory allocation in your BIOS settings. Note that it will have to reduce your available RAM as a result.
