Restore a single file of a snapshot.

Please consider a 'backup' every night which is carried out by:

1. instant comments (suspended)

2 clone the underlying data store (using "zfs snapshot" in my case that captures all files vmdk/vmsd/vmxf/vswp/lck/nvram/etc)

3 remove the snapshot.

Question: How can I go on the recovery of a single file from the file system of comments a few days ago?  I have at my disposal the entire repertoire of the VM from the underlying data store, such as he was cloned (files in point 2 above).  I guess that my options are:

a. somehow say ESXi to bring up the snapshot taken in step 2.  Say ESXi parallel to the direct guest who is still ongoing.  Say ESXi to bring this backup but without any internet connection, so it does not interact with the network when you restore.  While the backup is in place, the files I need.

b. somehow, mount the NTFS volume that has been captured in step 2.  This can be difficult if the NFTS volume was spread over several disks hard vmdk (typical 2 TB by-pass)

c. < your idea here >

Thank you

Chris

Hi Chris,

Read my instructions carefully:

1 clone your current VM. Original VM can be online - only with the right button and clone. (Do not power on the cloned VM) and then get rid of all readers (vmdk) except the system drive.

2. now mount all vmdk backup where you have the file you want to restore. Of course, you need to get this snapshot on the data store connected to the host.

3. remove the NIC in the cloned virtual computer and turn it on. Most likely, it will load normally and you will see the previous state and the file you want.

4. now, the trick is to copy this file to the original virtual machine. Therefore add new disk on the cloned virtual machine.

5 format the new drive and copy the desired file

6. remove the cloned VM disk and attach it to the original virtual machine. Copy it.

And bharathl will not work because you have SPLIT volume through some VMDK. Therefore, you have cloned VM with the same config as original virtual machine.

  • Is there a way to restore a SINGLE FILE in a folder deleted from the Recycle Bin?

    Suppose that you remove all the contents of a folder that contains the files and subfolders. If you open the Recycle Bin, you can see a list of deleted files and subfolders, but there is no way to see the files in the subfolders. So, if you want to restore ONLY a single file in a subfolder of the deleted, it seems there is no way to do it. You can only restore the entire sub.folder, which is not necessarily what you want, especially if you filled out the application parent with other files and subfolders after the deletion.

    Is there a way to restore a SINGLE FILE in a folder deleted from the Recycle Bin?

    Another method would be to drag the folder to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Open it and recover the files required - re - delete the folder.

    @ Palcouk... you can actually retrieve files deleted, even when they are home to recycle the locker to restore a previous version of the folder parent; These come available restore points so not always guaranteed, but he made the most of the time if action is taken quickly enough. :) Ric

    If you do not have access to windows and you used the built in backup, you will have a problem.  There is a way pretty cludgy to get home if you know where it is.  You can download Acronis true image home and convert the backup Windows a one acronis > find the file > convert a windows backup.  Not pretty but doable

  • Restore a single file from a backup of VDP VM

    Hi all

    I have a question on vSphere for Data Protection. We installed this product a couple of days and I hope that this will help us reduce costs from Symantec Backup Exec. I read somewhere that you can restore a single or multiple file from a backup of POS. I've been clicking on my way in the restore option but I can't find this option anywhere. Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thank you

    André

    Firstly, you need a VM, which has been saved at least once. On this virtual machine, you can open an Explorer with https://'IP-of_your_VDP-appliance': 8543/flr /.

    As you click on "Advanced Login"

    Powers the: a user who has access to this virtual machine

    vCenter credentials: only that user, that you used to configure your POS with /vdp - configure. (Nested user does not work)

    After login you can restore files from all virtual machines of your backup-store in this virtual machine.

    If you use Internet Explorer and only see a blue screen, can you try to click on the button "compatibility view".

    For the restoration of level in Linux, you need a Linux VM with an Explorer.

    There is a limit of maximum 5000 files by restore.

  • Defective single file restore: "datafile... already restored to the file.

    Hi all

    I ' am doing some tests with RMAN restore and restore a single file in a new directory.

    First execution of the restore script (run {restore datafile 14-'... » ;}) has been a success, but in the case where I deleted the restored file and restart the script, RMAN complains with:

    "datafile 14 is already restored to the file...". ».

    This means that RMAN keeps track of and refers to the previous actions of restoration?

    I find this rather strange RMAN behavior because I want RMAN just to use to deal with some files (should not make assumptions that the DBA can do or what he or anyone else has done it before...).

    Y at - it an option to 'force' RMAN to restore files, regardless of what happened before?

  • You can restore a project from a single file

    Using Windows XP / RH8 & RH7 / RSC 3.1

    There is a single file that allows you to restore a project?   My colleague considers that this is the case, but I don't see anything in aid HR, or on this forum, using a keyword in the "restoration project", "restore file", "file types" etc.

    I can't find the help page explanation of each file type, which was easy to find.

    What we are looking for is equivalent to the FHB in ForeHelp file.  You can restore the entire project in a single file.

    I've tried a dozen of research on the forum and get no response (s) for anything whatsoever.  Is a search even working?

    Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Joe

    There is no single file that restores the source project. You can debone a CHM and to approach, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

    The only method of single file is a zip of your project!

  • Restore and recover a single file of data/Tablespace to reclaim space

    Oracle 11 G R2 with node 2 RAC, ASM and Data Guard

    11.2 Solaris

    I have a Bigfile Tablespace TB 5 on Production which has a very large table containing LOB data. Most of the LOBs have been deleted so now the space used is only 200G.

    I need to recover the space (to 4.8) below the high water mark (HWM). We tried all the usual methods (shrink, move, reorg online), but due to the enormous size of the space, they are all would require to take my Production database down for many hours. Also, I have limited disk space to work with.

    In 11 G RMAN skips data file blocks that do not contain at present no data when you save to disk for a backupset.

    I came with a possible alternative to reclaim space with RMAN below:

    1. turn the offending offline data file

    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE OFFLINE 3.

    2 restore and recover the offending using data file:

    RUN {}

    SET NEWNAME for DATAFILE 3 on NEW;

    RESTORE THE 3 DATA FILE;

    DATAFILE 3 SWITCH;

    RECOVER DATA 3 FILE;

    }

    3. place the new file data online

    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE 3 ONLINE;

    First: Will this work?

    Second: When I restore this data file, it will ignore the HWM on original table space and restore just the 200 GB of data, or he will restore the 5 TB of blocks used or not?

    Thank you.

    RMAN ignores empty blocks during the backup, but restoration will create the same file size as it has been earlier and restore data later. So you will get no benefit from it.

  • I deleted a single file from my Windows Media Player 11 library and now I want it in my library - how should I do this?

    Am running Windows XP and removed a single file of the library only (and not from the library and my computer) and can see the file in the folder, it can play in Windows Media Player by clicking on it in the folder, but can't find a way to 'restore' the file so I can see it again in my WMP library.  Any way to do this without rebuilding the entire library?

    Hi JohnEvergreen,

    Follow these steps:

    (a) open Windows Media Player (WMP).

    (b) access to the "library". Click the menu "file" at the top of WMP. Select "Add to library" and wait for the dialog box labeled in order to pop open.

    (c) restore files. Click on the 'Advanced Options' button in the dialog 'Add to library'. In the column "watched folders" make sure that the folder that contains your original music is selected, which is indicated in the column "Type" as "Rip folder. Look under the section "watched folders" and ensure that a tick is filled to "Add files previously deleted from the library." Click on the 'OK' button and wait for the dialog box "Add to library by searching computer" to open it.

    (d) in the look in dialog box "Add to library by searching computer" at the 'progress' bar, indicated by a green line moving from left to right; also, below, monitor the "found files" and "added files" account.

  • Conversion disc Split Single File - data loss!

    Hello

    Something strange happened to us today. In order to migrate to VMWARE SERVER 2 to ESXi when necessary to convert expandable virtual disks, divided into 2 GB files into a single file. We used vmware-vdiskmanager - r source.vmdk t 0 destination.vmdk. All conversions went well.

    Once we start a virtual machine, we noticed some missing data. In fact, the content of the virtual mas aged 4 months. We converted 10 virtual machines and happened to us in 4 of them (2 on each server).

    To reproduce the error, I copy vmdk from a backup on the server. I checked for the current data and it was OK. Convert the disc but I keept the original. Once more, the data were missing. I remove disks, created a new and pointed out the OLD records not converted. The data are ALSO missing.

    It was as if the drive was not having published data or something like that. On the other hand, this could be a major bug in the conversion process? (unlikely).

    Any ideas what went wrong?

    You are absolutely sure that there are no snapshots?

    I'm not talking the Snapshot Manager in the GUI. Sometimes, it does not show the shots, even if they are present. I mean the files in the folder of the virtual machine. Can you please send a list of files (ED /oen) and the file vmx of the old virtual machine, which - when you start - shows the current files?

  • Numbers - how to import external data to a cell in a single file into a new cell in another file?

    Numbers - how to import external data to a cell in a single file into a new cell in another file?

    I want to do the same thing in numbers (3.6.2 (2577) I used to do in Excel (any version):)

    to import a calculation of a cell in a file in a new cell in another file.

    Example: I want to import the result of a sum in a specific cell of my accountant in August to a cell in comparison in my accounting of September.

    It was so easy in Excel. Until the reference computer broke down.

    By the numbers, I tried to copy - paste the contents of the cell formulated, but not good.

    No help manual online or anywhere. I think that maybe the function is absent in number.

    Then I return to MicroSoft Excel, that I have used for many years and I am sorry to say feel much more wysiwyg.

    Formulas in a numbers document cannot reference cells in other documents of numbers.

    "Much more wysiwyg" is another way to express what many of those who "used (MS Excel) for many years" expressed as "more intuitive. These two descriptions usually boil up to ' what I'm used to, ", which is also true in the other sense.

    Whatever the real explanation, the standard advice is "the tool that will do the job." If "the job" requires referencing values in a separate document, the numbers (alone and without the help of AppleScript) are not the best tool for this job.

    Kind regards

  • More 1740bytes cannot retrieve cache Firefox12 in Windows7.The files files files can store the maximum size of a single file only 1740bytes?

    I can't get flv (YouTube video) larger files that 1740bytes of Firefox12 in Windows7 cache files, cause whenever I have search in the files, I can only find files with unique maximum file size 1740bytes and video files flv from YouTube are significantly larger than that. So, how can I get it back only the cache YouTube video file?
    But Firefox12 does not have this problem occurs in Windows XP.
    Furthermore, what is the maximum single file size in Firefox12 cache files?

    It has just begun to surface on the Web more. This seems not to be a browser problem, as happens in my opera and IE too. Apparently, YouTube has decided to not let us perceive his videos more and their place is cutting in 1 740 ko somehow files be reconstructed with its own codes when needed to play. Others are also noticed that if you make a pause a video is not going to preload as it used to- but a short distance. No doubt it is pre-configured as a segment of 1 740 both and support even not all except if you look at all this.
