restore old profile folder location? or at least recover my favorites?

Hello, after a windows update, I opened firefox and he started as a new installation, I lost bookmarks and passwords, and plugins. I got my thought of folder (change date before the update of victory) profile that all my information is there. Can restore it? or at least... retrieve my favorites?

Hello

You can try to replace these files in the backup in the current Firefox profile folder after the release of Firefox: places.sqlite to bookmarks + history, bookmarksbackup folder for just the bookmarks dated restoration via Favorites (Alt + B) feature > show all bookmarks > import and backup, signons3.txt + siqnons.sqlite for passwords saved etc. The installed plugins are detected automatically by Firefox and appear in (Alt + T) Tools > Addons > Plugins.

  • during an update lots of my profile folder has been put in a folder on the desktop marked the old data. How to restore this data file

During a bet to update, automatic update of windows has started and some how much my profile data has been removed and stored in a file on the desktop. There is a simple and easy way to restore this folder from the current firefox?

You can use the contents of the Old Firefox Data folder to "roll back" the refresh, but this involves several steps. It's probably even faster than the recovery of individual files and load those into your new profile.

Check in the folder 'Old data Firefox' update adds a folder with a random semi name on your desktop. If there is only one, that probably has your old settings and Add-ons. If there is more than one, you'll want to work with one who has been updated recently.

Once you have identified the profile folder, that you want to restore, here is my "old profile resurrection suggested procedure:

    Overview

Here are the steps described in more detail below:

    1. Create a new Firefox profile
    2. Delete all of this profile folder
    3. Copy in all of the old profile folder

Create a new profile for Firefox (Windows)

Exit Firefox completely and start up in the Profile Manager by pasting the following in the Windows search, or the Run dialog box by pressing ENTER:

    firefox.exe -P

Note: any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.

Click on the button create a profile, give it a name like OldSettings and skip the option to change the location of the folder. Select the new profile from the dialog box, and then start Firefox.

Open the new profile folder in Windows Explorer

Firefox in the new profile should look like a new installation of the plant. Open the troubleshooting information page by using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • Menu help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table, click on the view file"" button. Firefox will launch your new profile folder in Windows Explorer.

This folder open, switch back to Firefox and get out by using either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Firefox is closed, the profile folder must be front and Center, or you can activate it by using the taskbar.

Copy old data instead of new

In this new profile folder you just popped open - NOT the one on your desktop - select all content (you can use Ctrl + a) and delete (you can press Delete on the keyboard).

Leave this window open, open or switch to your folder of old data of Firefox. Consult your old profile folder. At this level, you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.

Select all (Ctrl + a) and copy (or right-click > copy or Ctrl + c).

Switch to the empty profile folder in another window and paste (or right-click > paste or Ctrl + v). This may take a few minutes because some files are large.

    Launch Firefox

Firefox should start in this 'new' profile with the old resurrected profile data. Success?

  • Mail missing after restoring the messaging profile folder

Hello, I had problems with my file sent and had to restore my profile folder to an old copy of 3 day, but after that my Inbox is missing mail for 16 days, the mail is extremely important because it contains all my orders and working material and I need a way to recover. Please help me! At the moment there is no earlier version or which folder to restore once I open his options on the file to the Inbox, what do I do now?

restored what and how is the first question. If you mean windows restore, I'm from here. It's a mess of Microsoft, with that I want nothing to do.

The only constant I can suggest is the right click on the folder in Thunderbird, select Properties, and then store the button fix to force a re-indexing of mail.

  • I need to recover my favorites from another laptop which is unbootable Windows. I managed to copy the folder of this portable Firefox profile - how do I import bookmarks now to a new laptop?

I tried to replace the contents of the old profile folder to the new folder and I also tried to simply replace the urlclassifier3.sqlite file, but that does not work either.

Googling didn't help me in the last 24 hours, but surely there must be a way to do it-right?

    Thank you very much
    Anthony

Yes, there is a way to restore your bookmarks from your old laptop to the new. Note that profiles just replace the contents of the old folder will not work because your profiles.ini file contains a different profile name.

  • Is there a way to merge the bookmarks on my old pc with those on my new pc? (PS: I have unable connect to the old pc using old profile but can access the profiles folder).

My profile on my old laptop has become corrupted and I can't log in with my regular account (admin). I would like to add and merge bookmarks former firefox to another laptop, which already has existing bookmarks. I can not simply copy and paste the profile folder as this would crush my existing bookmarks and settings. Unfortunately, I have not set up the sync on this browser feature.

Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't have good tools to merge and dédupliquant bookmarks. I will propose a roundabout way to do. Here's an overview:

    (1) create a new profile Virgin (#3) in your current Firefox (see details at the end)

    (2) while using the #3 profile, restore a file in JSON format to backup your old (#1 profile) system (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)

    (3) export bookmarks restored to an HTML element in a perfect location, with a file name unique format (see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file for backup or transfer bookmarks)

    (4) exit Firefox and is reactivated in your normal profile (profile #2)

    (5) file bookmarks import as HTML (see import bookmarks in HTML file)

    (6) create a backup in case something is not going to step 7 (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)

    (7) rearrange bookmarks in the folder of imported bookmarks (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-bookmarks-to-save-and-organize-w...), possibly using an add-on deduplicating

    Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will be your plugins installed by system (for example, Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions or other customizations. It should also have databases of completely fresh settings and cool a cache folder.

Out of Firefox and start in the profile using Start Manager > Search box (or run):

    firefox.exe -P

Do not delete anything here. Any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.

Click on the button to create a profile, give it a name like OldBookmarks and skip the option to change the folder. Then launch Firefox in the new profile that you have created.

You are ready to return to the new profile and create export to HTML format.

When you return to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the button to delete the profile. It's a little too easy to accidentally delete your 'real' profile, so I recommend you to resist the temptation. If you don't want to clean up later, I suggest to make a backup of all your profiles first in case something go wrong.

  • How can I restore my old profile data for the reinstalled firefox

had a problem with the opening of firefox and he suggested that I install a new version, I did and I have an "old data firefox" file. My question is how can I reinstall the old file and all the stuff that's about it.

A 'Old Firefox Data' folder on the desktop is created when you reset Firefox.

You should be able to copy the data selected from this folder to the current Firefox profile folder.

For bookmarks that you would need to file places.sqlite or possibly restore bookmarks from a JSON backup in the folder bookmarkbackups.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Why I can restore the profile to different location?

I followed the instructions on the restoration of my profile to a new location (new computer) explicitly and it does not work. Any of my bookmarks or history are restored. It seems that there are records entirely new which did not exist in my backup file 25 June now. When I pasted the information, not asked me to replace all files.

I have a backup separate in an Acronis file that looks more like the original installation that I have on this new computer in the newly created profile. But who doesn't either.

Can someone help me? It is over 5 years, bookmarks, that I stand to lose if it does not work. Also all of my passwords will be lost. It is a serious problem for me. I have also several add-ons that I use all the time

    Thank you.

You will need the file profiles.ini so to recognize this profile of Firefox.

Sometimes it is better to retrieve only the files you really need and not to copy the complete profile folder.

Audio delayed or does not stop when you run a video. So I used RESET. Lost bookmarks & homepage & ADBLOCK and who knows what else. So I just copied ALL the files from the old profile on my desk in the new found under troubleshooting. Put everything back, but now FF use 100% CPU when running. (Not done yet). But this time, my favorites return. (YAY! "I have a ton of bookmarks). The CPU usage is now reasonable.

This is the real Firefox profile folder that stores your personal data.

    There are two of them:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > < profile > \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ < profile > \Local Settings\Application.

The latter is used for the cache of navigation and a few other files.

I had a hard drive error and the warranty company that fixed my computer created a new generic user without security.  They have also allowed most of my hard drive and there is no restore point from.   I can't disconnect from this user, and it connects automatically when I turn on the computer.  Is it possible to get my profile back original or at least change it?

    I could do this:

    (1) application of open PC settings, go to accounts

    (2) choose to create a new account and set up completely as you please (be sure to make an administrator-level user so that there be full access).

    (3) remove the generic profile, they did. You can wait a bit to remove it just to let you know that you have everything you need from him.
