RMAN dilemma

I'm testing RMAN to our backup/restore. I use the same database for the catalog and target. I was able to let go and to restore the data files, but I can't recover a deleted control file. I published rman > configure controlfile autobackup on and then fell to one of my control files. The problem is that I can't mount the database without a present controlfile to recover it. Is this an impossible test case since you would rarely have the catalog and the target in the same database. Someone doesn't see workaround because I don't have all the answers.

Thank you!!

Even if you use a recovery catalog, you must always be able to restore control in case of loss of recovery catalog files.

It is strongly recommended for all database saved with RMAN:
1. to set up the backup control file auto market
2. to keep records of the location of the automatic backup file control (normally also recorded in the log of the instance alerts)
3. If you want to keep records of the identifier of the database (DBID)

With these records, you can always restore the database control files: see "recover the database with an automatic backup of the control without a recovery catalog file:" http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmrecov.htm#i1006328

  • Validation of backups using RMAN

    Hello

    I have some doubts on how often must I apply validation backup RMAN.
    I am aware that I have valid backup only when I realize the restore/restore operation successfully, but there is something other than the interest I'am for...

    RMAN has interesting option 'RESTORE VALIDATE' and I thought to enforce this measure through scripting RMAN to automatically run in certain intervals of time.

    The dilemma is how much time will I have to validate my backups using this method?

    I am also aware that it is not just a "good" answer, and that everything depends on one case to case but I still wan't to hear your opinion.

    Thanks for the responses,
    Marko Sutic

    RMAN can validate backups without restoring. Best practice would be to do it and see how long it takes on a test server. Then, if you can afford to make daily or weekly.

    But in all cases you should always check these points of view V$ per day.

    SELECT view_name
    FROM dba_views
    WHERE view_name LIKE 'V%CORRUPTION%';

  • Bought IPhone 6 s second hand (slight dilemma)

    So I basically bought a brand new 6 iPhone from a third-party seller. Everything is in order, except for the fact that it has locked on the ERA. I read on the site of the AGE you need to be on the ERA because I think only 6 months to a year (?) on the distribution that is not the case, and I'm not about to get a contract to EA; I'd rather be on my contract to three (data unlimited, 600 minutes, texts of 2000).

    So, what is the best way to get to unlock my phone? Should I go to an independent phone unlocker (apparently that might bugger the warranty of the phone and empty), or do it myself (also voids the warranty) or do I just do it through EE (might require a certain amount of time spent with this network)? And also heard that the first 2 options are not always permanent solutions?

    The Apple Store will at all, if they understand my slight dilemma? Or are they enough ugh on that sort of thing? (of course, my English is amazing)

    There is only one way to get an iPhone Unlocked permanently and good, and that's to ask the carrier for an unlock is locked. Apple do not unlock phones because it does not lock them in the first place, do carriers. If you pay some hack to unlock, it will relock just in any case the first time, you have a problem and want to restore.  Person other than the carrier claiming to unlock is indeed apply a hack, plain and simple. Only carriers may unlock permanently locked to their network.

    Your only real option is to get EA to unlock, which means meeting some terms they have to free unlimited. Or, sell an EE user it and buy you a direct unlocked Apple device.

  • Example: Z820 Workstation: HP Z820 dilemma Workstation system BIOS version 3.88 updated

    HP drivers & software Support, URL page: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5225043&swItemId=wk_149650_1&swEnvOid=405... it is said that the last v. updated 3.88 to Z820 BIOS will display an error message and fail to start if Management Engine firmware is not the correct version for the processor. This statement poses a real dilemma in my case: my Z820 is one of the first of its kind, dating back to mid-2012. It includes the original version of processors Intel Xeon E5-2670. Happened to be initially installed with Intel ME firmware 7.1.21.1134 version and Boot Block Date 28/12/2011. After 2 years of relatively safe operation, the Z820 failed, and support on-site HP replaced the motherboard with a new brand: block Start Date is 06/03/2013 with Intel ME firmware 8.1.52.1496 version. However, the same original pair of processors Intel Xeon E5-2670 remained and is still running safely in position on the new motherboard. They do not have lack of so that they were not replaced. So now, if I update the BIOS to v. 3.88, it can detect the 'mix unsupported engine management software and the processor' and prevent the system startup... Should I update the BIOS? At present, it is v.3.87. Please notify.

    You had a motherboard original type and original type processors. The most recent (HP calles revision 1) type motherboards with the later block starting date have not lost their ability to perform original processor types, you've met. Those who can run all the old processors approved, as well as the more recent processors listed in the QuickSpecs. The "unsupported configuration" runs the newer processors with the firmware of IME plu type in place. I've updated all of our Z620s for the version 3.88 BIOS, and we have mothers with type 1 original time and review (with both the original and newer type of processors in our cards mothers review type 1) with zero problems. IME firmware update, if you want, requires juggling, but has never failed me either. Which, of course, differs from the IME software update. I always update BIOS from BIOS now... Unpack the SP 3.88 for the BIOS update and harvest the .bin file from the BACK folder that is placed at the root of drive C, as well as other parties. You only need the .bin file. Place it on a USB drive, higher level and start in F10 with one inserted before power shut... then you can navigate to the USB for the update of the BIOS. It is best to do these updates to the BIOS when not started in Windows, in my opinion.

  • Dilemma of dual boot Win XP SP3 Pro and Windows 8 Pro

    At this time, April 2013, I expect to build a desktop system dual boot with Windows 8 Pro for the current and future capabilities and Win XP Pro for continued use of legacy aps favorite who will not run on Win8. It turns out that the disc formats are a problem. The Win8 64 bit needs a partition format GPT to install 32-bit XP or XP Pro needs a format MBR partition to install. No OS will share the same format and a main drive cannot be formatted and partitioned in a type of format or the other. What to do? !! Two computers are not an acceptable answer; I want a 'box '. In addition, not interested in XP Mode embeded in Win8 or 'virtual machine '. One suggestion has been to run the operating system on separate disks. For me, this means that 2 SSD is to get performance on the two operating systems. Also, to move from one OS to another, you must restart; catch the key bios entry; change the boot sequence; Save/quit; and reboot. (Awkward!). So what to do with the data and documents - one NAS file storage (for example, disk WD Live 'cloud')? There's good news to have? Are there recent usability solutions to help solve the dilemma of the dual boot? A boot manager will really help and there a good "gift" there Boot Manager? Thoughts, anyone?

    I have a custom system DIY mb Gigabyte Z77, processor i7-3770, running a fresh XP Pro SP3 Edition Builder.

    The drive letter is not critical since XP, Windows 8 will still start as C: (even if the partition is Z: in Windows XP).

    I pre-formatted Windows 8 partition before installing Windows 8 (named volume: Windows 8).

    Then, when you reach the screen "Where install" during the installation of 8, choose the partition of Windows 8.

    You can view other things is the BIOS, look for compatibility / legacy mode option.

    But in the world of real output, size of the RMAN backups seems to be much higher.

    The following production DB is 27.5 terabytes in size as evidenced by the physical layer (DBA_DATA_FILES. Column of BYTES)

    SQL > select sum(bytes/1024/1024/1024) bytesGB from dba_Data_Files;

    BYTESGB

    ----------

    27885.3252

    But at the level of the logic layer, the used space is only 16.5 TB as evidenced by DBA_EXTENTS. BYTES column

    SQL > select sum(bytes/1024/1024/1024) bytesGB from dba_extents.

    BYTESGB

    ----------

    16621.316

    But the size of RMAN backup came to 20 terabytes , become almost 4TB that space consumed at the level of the logical layer (DBA_EXTENTS. BYTES).

    Why is this?

    RMAN jump blocks that have never been used. If a block has been used in the past, it will be included in the same backup if currently is not used:

    https://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmcncpt.htm

    Compression for backup sets

    When you back up the data files of backup sets, RMAN can use unused block compression to skip blocks of data file. RMAN always ignores blocks that have never been used. Under certain conditions, which are listed in the BACKUP AS BACKUPSET entry in reference Oracle database backup and recovery, RMAN also ignores the blocks that are not currently used. Data file backup sets are generally smaller than copies of data file and take less time to write. Compression of the unused block is fundamental to how RMAN writes files of data in backup items and cannot be disabled.

    Hello

    12 c database, after physical expectation is created, I need backup rman configuration,

    The goal is: a) backup of database b) remove archivelogs that have been backed up, free up space FRA.

    Design as below:

    1:

    in RMAN (primary and standby):
    RMAN >
    Configure controlfile autobackup on;
    set the type of backup device type disk compressed backupset;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;

    2: primary school:
    RMAN > CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY to the 5 DAY RECOVERY WINDOW;

    3: in priamry, turn on track changes to block

    4: primary, implemented since rman level 0 (full backup) on Sunday.

    5: in the primary, the installation program rman level 1 backup from Monday to Saturday.

    6: primary, set up since rman "save archive backup delete them all obsolete" every hour;

    questions here:

    1. as in step 5, for the protection of the o and delete archivelog, the script using:

    Run {}
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    overlap archivelog all;
    backup AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET archivelog all delete them all input;
    output channel d1;
    }

    I wonder if ' archivelog all delete all entries "will delete archivelog which was not taken on the eve of the database and broken standby database

    (hanging and out-of-sync with primary)... it is a concern, is that possible?

    2. If the primary database crashed, failover to standby mode, then restore/recovery primary, switch back to the primary, this design is just? If you have any good suggestions, please let me know.

    (to put it simply, I don't want to full/incremental backup to install standby, primary server CPU is good enough)

    Thank you very much!

    (2) is it possible that I can import a single SCHEMA using RMAN backup, because I have no more than one day of EXPDP dump file and the requirement is to store the data of three days.

    (3) can I import a package from the RMAN backup?

    I have incremental backup of level 1 and level 0.

    My database is 11.2.0.3

    Thank you and best regards,

    Mukesh

    Hi Mukesh,

    All of your needs can be met with output up to 11g using RMAN database, but beyond of 12 c, you can restore a single table RMAN backup (RMAN BACK TABLE new feature to the 12 c (Doc ID 1521524.1) Oracle database). For your condition impdp/expdp is the best Utilities option until oracle provided up to version 11 g.

    I hope this helps.

  • RMAN Duplicate + incremental backups + upgrade to 12 c

    Hello

    IM thinking the best way migrationg and upgrading database 11.2.0.4 to 12 c with reasonable downtime.

    reasonable downtime: 30 Minutes

    Source: Solaris (Intel)

    11.2.0.4

    DB Dimensions: 800G

    Target: Linux

    12 c

    new name of the comic.

    IM thinking to use RMAN Duplicate with option NoOpen(1) (RMAN catalog is in use). Double will be for sure several of 30 minutes then think if I can combine two copies for the recovery of the archivelogs generated during replication to minimize downtime. But is it possible when I change DB_NAME?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    I guess, you may need to check once this document. 412484.1

    I'm really not sure about your source and target system

    If your source is the 'Platform_id' 20, you can enjoy all your needs in 30 minutes or less. If this isn't the case, it is difficult.

    If your platform_id is 20, you can then create physical standby for your 11.2.0.4 and get the same thing, once the database is recovered, you can convert this logic of sleep (note: your database must be validated for the logical expectation), if you convert your logical database in standby mode, then you can change the name of your database to the new name also you can upgarde to 12 c.

    After upgrade, you can still recover all changes to your primary. Once the logic ensures sync with primary then you can pass.

    If your platform_id not 20, then

    You can opt for Golden Gate...

    Thank you

  • Is it possible backup 11g r1 DB and Recover to12c r1 with RMAN?

    I'm trying to save the old server to the new.

    Is it compatible to migrate Database 11.1.0.6 to 12.1.0.2 with RMAN?

    RMAN restore and recover a previous version of backups. See the compatibility matrix RMAN to https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/RCMRF/compat.htm#RCMRF1949

    All output data base Oracle can restore backup sets and copies created by any prior release of Oracle Database.

    However, in order to open a database, the data must match the version of the Oracle binaries. If you restore and recover a previous version of the database, you will need to update database permission to open it.

    RMAN cannot upgrade and migrate a database, but you can use the wizard for DBUA do. I suggest that you only consider this document showing your upgrade options:

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/upgrade/upgrading-Oracle-database-WP-12C-1896123.PDF

    Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade direct 11.1.0.6 12.1 and you must upgrade the database to 11.1.0.7 first before restoring it. Other options, see the link above.

    Hello

    I've never done this before and no one on my team seems to have idea if possible. In our environment, backups are performed using netbackup to bands using RMAN. I have a request to recover a good full backup of an oracle database (where we can restore the database, if required in the future) of January 13 and place in a way they provided for example: / dbbkup/dbName/files.

We can only use RMAN to restore this backup, but I don't want to restore this backup on a database, instead would like to capture the full backup and zip and place it in the provided path. Yes, we cannot copy the backupsets of a band on the disc with RMAN.

    The only option is to restore the database to a separate host computer (or we can restore the database to a filesystem separte or diskgroup within the same host of source database), and backup the database on a disk in compressed format.
