RPN calculators

I have a HP11C calculator bought probably about 20 years ago. It gives problems, and I am looking for a replacement. To my horror, I discovered that it seems THAT RPN (reverse polar Notation) has been abandoned in the course of the last 20 years. (For those who have never heard speak RPN, get it - it's probably somewhere between 'steam engine' and '8-track stereo')

There are calculators that still use the RPN? For someone who has used this form of logic for all of my professional life, the 'other' (Algabraic) way to enter data makes no sense.

Surely with modern technology it whatever it should be easy to include a RPN/Algabraic toggle to give users the option. OR maybe a user education renewed will be back on this system of logic which, once the habit makes all the sense in the world!

Help, please!

Hello

RPN is alive and well. The following HP calculators have RPN:

HP-33 has both algebraic and RPN mode

HP-35 s has an algebraic and RPN mode

HP - 15 c THE re-emergence of the HP - 15 c!

The last of them would probably be the closest match to your 11 c, but HP is currently unavailable (the hope is that they disentangle some keyboard and minor bugs reported problems).

Once both the 33 and 35 s an algebraic and RPN and the RPN mode works exactly as it has always done on previous HP.

There are some financiers with RPN and algebraic and RPN:

HP-30 b has an algebraic and RPN mode

HP-12 c RPN only - it is essentially the same calculator 30 years

HP-12 c anniversary 30th edition same as above, but to celebrate the 30 years of the 12 c

HP-12 c Platinum has both an algebraic and RPN mode, update inlduding 12 c and algebraic and more space programming

There is also a HP-20 b, which is a black version of the 30 b without a space program and less features.

Hope this helps

Bart

Edit: by the way, have you heard of the WP-34 project? It is a public project to reorient the 20 or 30 b in probably the ultimate calculatror of the scientific RPN.

  • HP calculators: origin of prefix key labels f and g

    I wonder about the motivation of the developers of HP to label the keys to prefix of RPN calculators in the 1970s and 80 by the letters f and g. obviously, the reason was not absolutely background as angles arrows were later invented instead. Compare: hp15c.org and Wikipedia/HP - 32S

    Having a problem of function with a new premium calculator, s/n [number of Series edited by Moderator].

    X to Y (X ^ Y) ensures actually Y to X power.

    Example: 2, entry, entry 6, X ^ Y, not return 64, 36 as it should.

    Is there any fixes for this?

    Thank you

    Hello

    The function is:

    "First argument" to the "second" power

    where X is 'First argument' and there is 'second argument.

    You have entered 2 and 6, so 2 ^ 6 which is 64.

    That's how work calculators 28 c/28/48 / 48G / 49G / 50G.

    There is no concept of X and recorded, as was the convention on battery level RPN calculators 4.

    On the 28 28 c/s the power button was simply designated as ^, on the 48 series, it was changed to Y ^ X but probably only because of the legacy application.

    the X ^ was used on some algebraic calculators (for example HP38g / 39g / 40g). The first is essentially an algebraic calculator (out now on line 38G / 40G) and mode RPN was probably introduced only for legacy demand (no RPN/RPL programming).

  • Application of emulators calculator hp classic for WebOS

    Never is better made than the hp1x line calculators.  My favorite was the hp11c, which I've owned for nearly 30 years and which serves me well today.  Long abandoned by hp, they still regularly sell on ebay for more than $200 (twice the original price, not to mention inflation!).  But now we are in a new era and RPN calculators are hard to find.

    Recognizing their popularity and eventually bowing to the fact 3 Parties provided simulators/emulators of these wonderful devices, Hewlett Packard has started selling emulators for several models for iPhone.  (see http://www.macworld.com/article/141364/2009/06/hpcalcapps.html)  Now that HP owns Palm, it would be really wonderful if they would bring this range of products for WebOS.  PLEASE, I BEG YOU!   And it would be even better if they understood a hp11c emulator in the offerings.

  • HP - 50g RPN - how to increase the size of the variable icon in the command screen in the RPN

    Greetings.

    How can I increase the size of the icons 'F' keys for variables in the RPN command line window?

    My reason for this is to be able to see the full name of the variable.

    Thank you.

    Edit: Perhaps sizes of keys to function 'F' is what determines the size of the variable icon. Does this mean that it cannot be increased?

    If you press SHIFT RIGHT and then press the ARROW KEY down, you can see more than 5 characters that are currently displayed for the softkey text.

    Why do I receive the "Error: Syntax Error" when you paste a function?

    Does not allow the first HP for this or is there something I'm missing here?

    Should I really have to change the settings for RPN, algebraic or manual for an input function?

    Use the ' ' when entering equations into RPN mode (mode RPN equations are algebraic expressions that need to be in ' ' brands)

  • I found flaws in all of the calendars and the scientific calculators of Apple products. How can I send you my report pages 20 as a matter of course. Who should I go. This is a real case, and I am willing to work with Apple on this issue.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Topic: Default in some Apple products (important issue).

    This is not an unsolicited idea or suggestion (Please read)

    First of all, allow me to introduce myself as a teacher of mathematics, with more than 20 years of experience in the teaching of mathematics in Jordan.

    I take the liberty to write to you on a very delicate issue regarding the above topic. I'll try to be direct and fertilizers to point.

    Eight months ago, I have established contacts with the customer at Apple and succeeded to in explaining my intention to work with Apple on the flaws I found in all the following Apple products:

    -Scientific calculators built into the Apple iPhones and other products like Mack book pro (13 keys/operators applying bad mathematical concepts).

    -Calendars integrated into Apple iPhones and iPads (after a certain date).

    -Most of the calculators downloaded on Apple iPads (application).

    With my main concern during the final user, I already have reports submitted to Apple on the six keys with solid evidence and evidence supported with excerpts from various reliable resources that are no doubt as to the failure of these keys. I also presented copies of the date on which the calendar goes off track.

    Now iPhones for new generation of Apple (6s and 6 s-Plus) have already been launched on the market, keeping the same flaws, I decided to start contacts with Apple once again, hoping to succeed in reaching the right people at Apple to continue my rage in finding that the right to address this issue. I hope that you will respond positively.

    My worries and concern are oriented towards the end user and, in particular, students who take the responses of these calculators for granted when they are wrong and they don't realize.

    I have prepared a 20 page report although detailed on these defects and how to correct function solid evedence of reliable math textbooks. I'm ready to send this report to the person/department concerned, on which they can check and verify my claim with any or all of the following:

    ·       Apple/mathematicians engineers.

    ·       The mathematics books that are published by well known/good reputation

    publishers.

    ·        Calculators Casio or TI as the most reliable calculators in the world.

    ·        Reliable sources of mathematics of the internet.

    ·        Presentations power point math on YouTube.

    .        Math teachers well known working in renowned universities

    ·        American Mathematical Society.

    I reiterate my willingness to cooperate on the question above so that the genetions coming Apple products will be free by all means!

    I look forward to your positive reply,

    Sincerely,

    Nael

  • HP graphic calculator first: first RPN - battery display of items not in compliance with the User Guide

    In the HP User Guide first, in the section on page 48 RPN, the image shows the battery watch algebraic views of right which was calculated on the left side of the line battery, with responses on the side of each line in the stack.  When I do the same calculations, I only get responses from the right side.

    Is there a parameter that represents the lines of battery as in the user's Guide?  I can't find it if it's there.

    Thank you

    Nick

    The guide I think you are referring is the guide of July 2013.  These pictures no longer exist in new versions of the user guide.

    I haven't met a setting that causes the behavior used in these pictures.

  • First crash of HP program running with arguments in the RPN

    (The first HP 20150427 firmware version)

    The following basic program will result in the application crash and HP first reboot when running in RPN mode. When executing, it calls for the parameters and then crashes when you press OK to continue execution of the program.

    If I switch to the entry of MANUAL it works very well, however I used to be a fan of RPN so by default, I'm in RPN mode.

    If I put two arguments on the stack and calls the program with CRASH (2) popping the arguments, it works very well.

    EXPORT CRASH (T, P)

    BEGIN

    PRINT (T);

    PRINT (P);

    END;

    Investigation on a bit further, the following program always works, regardless of the input mode:

    EXPORT WORKS()

    BEGIN

    T LOCAL, P;

    INPUT (T);

    INPUT (P);

    PRINT (T);

    PRINT (P);

    END;

    The problem is therefore a very bad error handling in running HP PPL, in the case of a stack overflow. In my view, that it is a BUG in the firmware; rather than crashing and restarting the first HP, it goes down gracefully with a "stack overflow" error

    How can I create an official bug for this problem report?

    This issue seems to be fixed in version 2015 6 17 (8151). I can't reproduce the error.

  • HP Premium - entry rpn - angle conversion

    How to convert decimal degrees in hexadecimal degrees inclusive (' ° ' ") and vice versa in RPN mode?

    The key does not work in this type of entry.

    Hello

    Your premium is updated to the latest version:

    To find your current version, press home, help, tree, up-cursor, Enter.

    Current version: 2013-11-25 (5447)

    Edit may 29, 2014: new version available: 2014 3 31 (6030)

    Update the first use a Windows PC connected to the internet, using the Kit first connectivity provided on the CD with the calculator.

    The following method is recommended:

    • Connect your HP Calculator first via the supplied USB cable (connected directly, do not use a USB hub)
    • Start the HP connectivity Kit
    • Click the tab of the calculator
    • Right click on the name of the first HP you want to update (it would be that you connected before starting this procedure)
    • Write down the version number, and then click the OK button
    • Click the Help Menu and select Check for update
    • Look for the pop-up box to update, check the version number that is newer than the one you want to update.
    • Then click on the download button
    • That's it, you will see the update being loaded and installed on your calculator screen. Don't click too quickly out of the HP Connectivity Kit, wait a minute or two after the completion.
    • In addition, there are a step in the connectivity Kit where it is advisable to back up the version that you had before the procedure, just in case. This way, you have a way to cover again.

  • HP - 50g written problem complex number. How to write (3 + i * 3 * sqr (3)) to RPN? (3, i3sqr (3))

    Hello everyone, I don't know how to write (i 3, * (3 * sqr (3))) RPN mode.

    Can someone help me please? I already searched the gug pdf guide help, without result.

    Thank you.

    Hello

    A few notes in the representation of a complex number as a vector:

    (1) the i is omitted, the second number is supposed to be the imaginary part.

    (2) the 50 g accepts only decimal numbers for vector representation

    Thus, at the entrance there. I guess you have the calculator in complex mode and exact mode (about not checked in "MODE"-> "SAE"), i.e. "C =" displayed at the top of the screen.

    RPN mode:

    Press 3 then ENTRY (3 is at level 1)

    Press ENTER again (3 is now duplicated and on both levels 1 and 2 - one advantage of RPN)

    Press ENTER again (3 is now duplicated and on levels 1, 2 and 3)

    Press the button of sqrt (x). Level 1 shows a 3 with a sign of the square root.

    Press on multiply key, level 1 shows 3· SQRT (3)

    Press LeftShift (white), then I (above the TOOL key), level 1 indicates an i

    Press on multiply key, level 1 shows 3· SQRT (3)· I have

    Press + key, level 1 shows 3 + 3· SQRT (3)· I have (or 3· SQRT (3)· i + 3 according to the parameter Flag - 27)

    If you want to keep the symbolic result (with the symbol of the 'SQUARE root'), leave it in this form, if you want to convert to vector format press (red) RightShift, then -> NUM (above the ENTER key).

    The result will be a decimal vector shape (3, 5.19615242271).

    Kind regards

  • First HP - RPN Mode - enter an algebraic Expression

    First HP Calculator into RPN mode, is there a way to enter an algebraic expression?  For example, on HP 50 G, you use the check mark button, ' ' ' to start the expression, then continue as algebraic.  Should I just go to the CAs to do this?

    Enter the algebraic expressions on the first HP is done in the same way as on the HP 50 g: just put the tick marks around the expression.  On the first HP, the tick mark is a shifted key: [Shift] [()].

    Hope that helps!
