rule on a machine swap space virtual vmware.

Hello

There is a rule to monitor swap space in memory to a virtual machine using the vmware performance agent. ?

Thank you!!!

data on logical disk space total, used, free available, and there are rules already in place that you can use as examples.

VMW Virtual Machine logical drive fill estimated time is not exactly what you want, but it shows similar data.

scope rule for "VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk" (the object behind VMWVirtualMachine.storage.logicalDisks)

totalSpace = #totalSpace of $scope.hostLogicalDisk #.

usedSpace = #spaceUsed of $scope.hostLogicalDisk #.

availSpace = #spaceAvailable a $scope.hostLogicalDisk #.

Unfortunately, there is no property that indicates which logical disk contains the file at this time.

It would be a good thing to ask as an idea, although it actually maybe not available through VirtualCenter at all.

The Infrastructure (which you are permitted to use) cartridge can have more capabilities in this area.

  • How to find out really currently used physical memory and swap space of hard disk to the virtual computer running?

    Suppose that I'm leaving WinXP hostOS a guestOS. Then a part of this guestOS remain in physical memory and another part is deployed on hard drive in the swap file resp swap partition.

    First question: the complete *.vmdk loaded into memory/swap space or only the part that is currently required?

    Perhaps only a *.vmdk 800 MB / 3GB is really responsible. But these 800 MB could be extended to 2 GB, because the content of these 800 MB is not compressed during load or guestOS drivers allocate additional memory.

    *. VMDK size seems so NO indicator for the actual amount of used memory / swap.

    How will I know how much physical (a) memory and (b) the hard disk swap space EXACTLY is currently occupied by a certain virtual machine running?

    The vmdk is not loaded into memory, because it is the drive of the virtual machine.

    *. VMDK size seems so NO indicator for the actual amount of used memory / swap.

    Yes, of course not. The memory used by the client is not related to the size of hard but the RAM assigned in the options of hardware reviews.

    How will I know how much physical (a) memory and (b) the hard disk swap space EXACTLY is currently occupied by a certain virtual machine running?

    Open the Task Manager and find a task vmware - vmx.exe or vmware-vmx - debug.exe.

    The swap file should be used if you have chosen to allow that VMware Workstation is authorized to Exchange. The file where swaps to door expansion .vmem Workstation. Search folder of comments.

  • Restrict the movement of files to physical machine to the Virtual Office (vmware view)

    Hi all

    I have a question, I am using virtual desktop with vmware view. I'm on a physical machine using this machine that I log on to the virtual machine using office remotely. (vmware view). My question is that I don't want the users of the physical machine to copy and paste the files of the virtual machine and vice versa.

    When I open virtual desktop, go to my computer, I see drive c (virtual machine disk) and then share the disks of the physical machine. When I click on them, they open and then I am able to copy all files in this shared folder on the virtual desktop. I want to restrict any idea how could I go about this. Help, please.

    Using RDP?

    In this case, you can use GPO (virtual desktop) to disable drive sharing.

  • How does the merger decide how much swap space is needed when I create a CentOS guest

    I use Fusion 7 on MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM on OS X Yosemite. I created a VM with 4BG of RAM, but I myself only 1983 MB of swap space. I created an another VM with 2 GB of RAM and got 3999MB of swap space. Is there a formula to follow? Thank you.

    Here's what I found on the CentOS document on rules of swap space:

    https://www.CentOS.org/docs/5/HTML/Deployment_Guide-en-us/ch-swapspace.html

    I don't know how VMware products to determine what size to make the swap partition, or important to me personally because I do not use the Easy Install feature should not you if you do not want to accept the default values it uses.

    There are three basic choices, installation of a guest operating system... Using the Easy Install, manually by browsing setup of operating systems accepting the default values along the way and or modification in addition the installation along the way.  Specifically with regard to the vHDD, you can choose manually set how the disk will be partitioned partitioning and the size of the partitions.  For example, you can choose any size you want for the swap partition.

  • Problem restarting Oracle Linux 5.6 after adding Swap space

    People,

    Hello. I use Oracle Linux 5.6 on top 3 VMPlayer.

    Because of OS Swap space is 0 KB, I add some Swap space to the root user with the following command:

    If DD \u003d/dev/zero of = / swapfile bs = 1024 count = 2097152

    mkswap /swapfile

    The swap space is added. Then I add the following line to the file "/ etc/fstab:

    /swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

    Then I reboot Oracle Linux 5.6 in order to take effect. But Oracle Linux 5.6 cannot restart. During the restart process, the error message appears:

    "check the file system error...". »

    Press Ctrl + D to continue.

    Repair file system. #

    Then I login inot file system and open the file "/ etc/fstab ' to remove the following line:

    /swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

    But the file/etc/fstab is read only and cannot be changed.

    I don't understand what causes not Oracle Linux 5.6 can not restart.

    Any folk that understand how to solve the problem to restart Oracle Linux 5.6?

    Thank you.

    the easy way is to use a Linux LiveCD and remove the bad fstab entry

    so I just add a second disk to the virtual machine and use it as a swap space

  • convert not up against physical machine to a virtual machine?

    Hello

    My problem is: I have a laptop which is broken due to a hardware problem. I removed the system drive and connected via USB on another machine that is running VMWare.

    When I tried to convert it with VMWare Workstation, there was only the possibility of converting the local system running.

    Is there another way to convert this outstanding system (Vista) on the external hard drive in an ACE VM?

    Thanks for help

    Hello

    ignore previous posts - this procedure is the smartest for the work

    create the new virtual machine - add drive - tell physical disk and select the drive in the case of USB - name dthe disc original.vmdk

    Then exit VMware and open a cmd.

    Change directory for vmware-install dir and run vmware-vdiskmanager.

    Read the examples of syntax - then convert the physical disk (originall.vmdk) in an import.vmdk named a virtual - store where you have enough disk space.

    Conversion will take awhile--what doen you can remove the USB cover.

    When doneopen new VMware - launch of the new virtual machine and remove original.vmdk - replace with import.vmdk.

    Last step is to reconfigure with converter - specify the newly created virtual computer vmx-file

    Hello George,.

    order on the nested virtual machines, you must set monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"

  • You cannot power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine

    Hello

    Only, I converted a physical blade to a virtual machine running on ESX4 using VMware converter 4. The converted virtual computer is running VMware server 1.0.5 and machines virtual option 2. After the P2V process, I am unable to power on virtual machines in VMware server. I get the following message:

    You cannot power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine

    I see there are some entries that I can put in the vmx file

    monitor_control.vt32 = 'TRUE '.

    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = 'TRUE '.

    However, this does not solve my problem. Is it possible to edit a VMX VMware Server so the virtual prompt runs in a virtual machine of ESX4

    Thanks in advance

    Oli

    VMware Server 1.x does not support nested virtual machines.  Workstation 7 is the first product with the official support of virtualization nested, although other recent VMware products should work, with some constraints.  See nested running VMs.

    VCP 3.5

    (Preparation for VCP 4)

    You must manually change your ESX virtual .vmx file and add this line:

    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUE

    Are you referring to the evolution of the virtual machines network portgroup of one to the other and in your case potentially issue on to another vSwitch? If so, take a look at this script: updateVMPortgroup.pl everything you do really makes a call to ReconfigVM_Task() and passing in a specification change and put to day the network in which you want to change

  • merge multiple physical machines in a virtual

    Hello

    can merge us multiple physical machines in a virtual one? If yes how?

    Thank you.

    Migrate a lot into ONE? Or migrate many virtual medical tests a lot?

    To the subject of one, it isn't not possible with a tool as the tools just prepare the operating system to run on virtual hardware. But it does not work tpuch applications running on the machine. If you want to migrate multiple servers in a single, you P2V one of them and reinstall the applications of other servers on this machine.

    If you want to reach it, yes it is possible with VMware Converter.
