  • Cannot install the simple game (Fishdom) due to the run-time error 'asked to terminate in an unusual way.

Maybe it's not the exact wording, but I know that everyone is familiar with this error message. There is no error message number to identify the problem.

I posted this under games even if my prob is perhaps not relevant to this forum.  If anyone has a suggestion of where to go, it would be very nice and I can re-post.

I've updated my graphic drivers, Update ActiveX, DirectX, restarted, and whenever I have it re-downloaded, not only do uninstall the version I tried to install, but I go to C/program/files/Playrix and delete anything there as well.  I don't have this in-between software - as a Playrix games - car Manager at least gives me a direct download link so I'll actually not through a distributor site.

I have XP SP3, use FireFox (current version), and my graphics driver is Express family Chipset 965 (which I think is a Ricoh or Intel product?).  It came with my Dell Inspiron 1520.  I have no other problems with anything on my computer and play frequently other simple match 3 games - online - on the MSN Games website.

I have Malwarebytes running in the background.  I also tried to disable the real-time protection and install and which did not help.

I really want this game, and anyone who can help me with this will have my eternal gratitude.  (A lot of promise, I know, but you'll be worth it).

Thank you to everyone who is addressing this.  I will try what you suggest!

    Hi Catsin,

I suggest you follow these methods and check.

Method 1: I suggest that you try reinstalling from Visual C++ Runtime library.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=a7b7a05e-6de6-4D3A-A423-37bf0912db84

    Install the application and check.

If the method above does not work, proceed to the next method.

Method 2: Run the clean boot and try to install the application.

To do this, follow the steps in this link:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

NOTE: Once you check the functionality, follow the suggestions under steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state.

If the previous step fails, then try to install the program in compatibility mode and check if it works.

Have you tried to use system restore to restore your system configuration?

Start menu > Accessories > system tools > system restore.

I hope you have some system restore points before the problem started happening. Follow the wizard for your anti-roll system back to one of these restore points.

System restore only modifies / restores the system configuration - this will not affect your personal files/data.

So if the problem started to arrive 2-3 days ago, come back to a point of restoration 4 days ago.

I don't use any anti-virus or anti-spyware, except Windows Defender.

I suspect that you see the effects of a hijackware infection. Since you have no applications installed virus protection (and, I suppose, you have not installed in Windows XP is), my recommendation is the following:

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows XP.  (Because you upgraded from Windows XP to Win7, you can not do a clean install of Win7.) Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

    Hi AleezaMeira,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. you receive the error message when opening any program on the computer?

3 when was the last time it was working fine?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • I get error message when I am in POGO, a game program "this application has requested execution to terminate in an unusual way" then I have to connect to the internet again - why?

When I'm in the POGO which is program where you can play games,

I get an error message which reads as follows:

"Microsoft Visual C Runtime Library, runtime error,

    Program C:\Program Explorer\iexplore.exe may

This application has requested the execution to terminate in an unusual way.

For more information, contact the application support team"

This type of error can be caused if the Visual C++ library runtime components are missing or because of a third-party software.

    Follow the steps below:

    Method 1:
If the problem is caused by the lack of Visual C++ libraries, you can download and install the Runtime components of Visual C++ libraries from the link below:

This error can occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework installation on the computer is damaged or is missing.

Try it out below step to reinstall and repair installation of Microsoft .NET Framework on the computer, then check if you can install the software.

    (a) click the Start button, select Control Panel, click programs and then click on 'Turn Windows has or not.' If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (b) search for Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1 uncheck, click OK and restart the computer.

    (c) after the reboot, open again "Turn Windows features on or off" and place a check next to Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1 and restart the computer.

    Step 2

If the previous step fails, then I suggest that you manually download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable Package and check to see if you can install the software.

In programs and features, you do not show that you have installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable? If this is not the case, download the links here.
