S12 VIA upgrades

Hello.

I have a S12 (VIA Chipset), and I was wondering about some possible improvements to it.  I'm squeezing every last bit of power and performance of this machine.  Not so much to make it powerful, but it is fast/quick.  Want some advice on if that is possible.

1 Bluetooth.  I know the S10 could easily have a bluetooth module is installed and I was wondering if it was the same way for the S12.

2 RAM.  I have maxed out my RAM (3 GB) but was wondering about the RAM soldered on the motherboard.  I know it's running at 667 mhz, which slows down my stick of 2 GB at that speed (it's at 800 mhz).  Could I send the computer in to Lenovo and ask them to replace this welded to the stick with one that works at 800 mhz?

3 turbo Memory.  I read that there is an empty Mini PCIe connector on the motherboard.  A "stick" of memory Intel Turbo would be correctly installed in this slot machine?  Or the chipset VIA prevents this.

4. HARD DRIVE.  I have considered upgrading to an SSD, but I soon will dual-boot windows 7 Ultimate edition and Windows XP, and the SSD with a capacity large enough for this is too expensive at the moment.  Disc standard HARD of the S12 is 5400 RPM (I think), but a disk hard 7200 RPM would help a lot?  I doNOT want to sacrifice battery life for this particular uprgare however, so if 7200 RPM drives suck too much juice, then what is a better solution.

5. all possible means to speed up the graphics would be nice, I however can't think at all.

6 would be dual bootin windows 7 and XP slow down my performance?  I would not think so experience, but have never delt with windows 7.

If anyone has good advice please share it.

Hi try to answer some of your quests...

1 BT it is not manual to explore the S12... but a good help is to know how to get inside... Update disk HARD S12

but remember... .you permanently losing your warranty...

2. it is mission impossible memory soldered on board... welded .the... not socket based...

3. a location minicpi-free express... ok... whose know if it works... but even when you have 3 GB of memory...

Turbo memory only works for Vista... and it's a waste of money... anything goes speeds up...

4. 7200 RPM HARD drive will be transfer only the data faster... don't eat higher consumption of the battery in 5-10 minutes all... so no fear on this subject... losing against SSD, but they cost 10 to 20 times by Go more... 160 GB SSD costs equal the entire S12... bad ratio... could be better next year, but did not have a sphere of magical glass

5. no graphics acceleration...

6 depends on driver Windows 7 for your Via the machine...

not really easy to compare XP with W7 but much more efficient than Vista...

hope that makes something more clear...

cordially KalvinKlein

  • I can't stack (previously in version sets) photos imported via 'Upgrade PES catalogue'. Why not?

I am currently using LR 3.6 on a Windows 7 OS / HP laptop.  Previously, I organized my photos using PSE Organizer 9.  When I went to 3 LR, I have selected the option Update my catalogue of PSE to put my photos on LR.  LR imported pictures and keywords/sides but not my version sets or smart albums.  I understand that LR doesn't have version sets so I would have to manually reinstall my pictures but now LR is does not give me this option.  Photos that were previously in a PSE defined version are displayed as the unstackable (all battery options are grayed out) even if they are in the same folder on my hard drive.  I have trouble finding anything on the web that deal with this issue.  Any help/direction would be very appreciated my catalogue is rather heavy at this point.

    Thank you

In the catalogue on the left panel, you have selected "all photos"? You selected the two photos to stack until you tried to stack them? Both must be highlighted, then stack should be available.

  • Envy 17 3010eg: upgrade to Windows 8 and update Bios: no switchable graphics and other problems

    Hello

I'm of the Germany, but I'll do my best to write this in English.

    The product name and number: HP Envy 17 3010eg {information}

Operating system: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

    Drivers: everything up to date

    Long story short,

I just wanted to upgrade the pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit to the new Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.

So I waited until the driver for Windows 8 support has been completed by HP.

This month, I noticed that HP has released a graphic driver for Windows 8.

Happy as I was I installed Windows 8 immediately via upgrade function.

I installed all the missing drivers.

    * Update Bios to F.08*

I noticed that I had to upgrade my Bios to version F.08 to install new graphics drivers. I did the upgrade and installation of the driver.

BUT after the update to the version of the Bios the laptop only F.08 recognized the AMD graphics card. The integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics card had disappeared!

Even after installing the new graphics driver, the Intel card is still missing in the 'Device Manager' of Windows 8.

The battery life is now about 1 1/2 to 2 hours maximum because the laptop always uses the card AMD.

So I looked in the 'new' Bios, but I have not found a way to change the graphics card. So I think that there is only a 'software' switch to do so.

I have installed "AIDA64"and look under "Graphics".» The graphics card Intel HD 3000 has been mentioned as 'disabled'.

Nice, but I have no idea how to turn it on again.

So I re-installed Windows 8. This time, I did a completely clean install. With the same results.

So, I switched to Windows 7, and there you go. Two graphics cards are displayed in "Device Manager" and the switchable graphics feature works perfectly (! even with the new version of the Bios F.08!).

    * Tested in Bios Version F.09*

Yesterday, I noticed another Bios Update. This time in version F.09.

So, I updated the Bios with Windows 7 installed.

    Everything went well (I thought!).

Once, I've done a completely new installation of Windows 8 to take a peek, if Intel HD 3000 card will be recognized this time.

    BUT without success...

So, I thought that the problem could only be Windows 8, because Windows 7 works perfectly.

    * Problems with Bios Version F.09*

BUT then, I noticed a strange behaviour of my laptop:

    -proximity sensor no longer works

-the keyboard backlight cannot be (DIS-) activated

-the brightness of the backlight is half as usual

-internal fans are going crazy-> they accelerate without reason (laptop is idle) and won't slow down until I do a re-boot

    * Version of the Bios downgraded to F.05*

So, I spent to the version of the Bios to the older Version available: F05

And I was a little shocked by the result.

Windows 8 acknowledged the Intel HD 3000 graphics card again!

    The problem is the Bios!

Then, I upgraded the version of Bios version to see which version of the cause of the problem:

    Œuvres F05

    Œuvres F.06

    F.08 does not work

    F.09 does not work

So I decided to stay with the version F.06

BUT to install the new Windows graphic 8 driver you need the version of Bios F.08 (min.).

    I installed the driver anyway...

I found myself with a black screen... I had to reinstall Windows completely.

    Yet more long story short,

I ended up using Windows 8 Pro 64 - bit with the graphics card AMD only.

I also updated the Bios (back) to the version F.08 dispelled the problems with the version of the Bios F.09 I mentioned.

So for the moment I am absolutely no idea what the problem might be.

The support has not yet heard of these problems and I have not found any website which explains the same problem.

Every posting, I found explains that the AMD card is not recognized by Windows 8 but Intel HD card.

Someone else got the same problems?

What do you think? Is it really a problem with the Bios?

What can I do to solve the problem?

for me the best driver are:

    http://leshcatlabs.NET/

Works Perfekt (cards during execution of the F06 BIOS and a map when F08/09) and are updated often.

  • Get the most out of my old Mac

I have an old Mac with OSX 10.5.8 - assuming that I am not in a position to replace the right now, what is the best performance I can get out, via upgrades etc. ?? Any help appreciated

I have an old Mac running 10.5.8.  It's a Power Mac G5, and I could use it as my Mac primary (for most things), if my Intel Mac mini came down.  It has 4 GB of RAM; It could go much higher (up to 16 GB), but 4GB seems to be more than enough for the race of Leopard.  It has a 128 GB SSD as the startup disk, and the other internal drive is a hard drive 2 TB.  The currently-installed video card is stock - nothing special, good enough for my application.

It is connected to the TV in the living room for display; It is "hidden" behind the HDTV.  It uses my system stereo as its speakers.  It acts as my network storage "data dump".  I can watch videos on web sites like YouTube (although less of it since getting an Apple TV), as long as the web site uses based on HTML5 video (not Flash video-based).  The latest version of iTunes for Mac PowerPC (10.6.3) still work with current iTunes game service, so I can listen to my library of music complete iTunes on this subject.  Since it's next to my stereo system, I did and still do audio recording (using an older version of GarageBand).  For example, to scan tapes and old LPs of music.  I also use it to record audio from my TV decoder.

I don't know if you have an iMac G4 or G5.  If it is a G5, it can substantially benefit an SSD, because it has a SATA interface.  For a G4, because of its old PATA interface, an SSD is probably less effective to increase overall performance.  But it would probably improve things like startup time, and it can benefit an iMac (G4 or G5) by producing less heat and making less power compared to a standard 3.5-inch hard drive (less stress on the aging system).  Certainly maximize its RAM.  Storage and RAM - you can't really do anything else internally, since this is an iMac.

For the software, Use TenFourFox as their web browser.  Safari for 10.5.8 is old and does not have to be updated over the years.  TenFourFox is a special version of FireFox, actively maintained by a dedicated developer, optimized for Mac PowerPC under Tiger or Leopard.

    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

TenFourFox, that's what makes my PowerMac G5 can still be used as a computer 'every day', more than any of its hardware upgrades.

  • Satellite Pro S300-12O - Sound Forge 8 does not

Hi guys out there, I hope someone here can give me some advice.

First of all, I have a laptop Toshiba S300-12O bought in January. I downgraded to XP Pro via upgrade disk lower.
I had zero problems until recently when I installed Sony Sound Forge 8 on the machine. I tried to burn an audio CD using SF8 and the machine hung, SF8 answers do not. Nothing worked at all and I had to manually turn off the machine. Had another crack at it and she said then there was a serious error and the PC have closed, etc..
Sent the error report to Microsoft when the machine has restarted and said that he had recovered from a serious error, etc.

This could be a driver problem? I had a quick glance but can not find the drivers out there apart from the one which allows you to play DVDs on the laptop.

The optical drive is TEAC DW-W28-RT multi layer. I can open the drive to SF8, not tried burning mp3 mp3 files or anything yet.

I have not tried burning a disc audio using any other utility still or actually burned anything on any software. SF8 is my overwhelming favorite and I would use it as I do a few edition of music etc and this is my software of choice. Any advice greatly appreciated guys.

    Hello!

To be honest, this program is not for me, but in my opinion, you should look for an update on the site of the factory.
Check if the program is compatible with Windows XP.

Last but not least, you should check if you have the same problem with another program. I think that it is a question of the program that you are using.

Delete all rules for Firefox in the list of permissions in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.
