Sale of a MacBook

Hi, I'm selling my MacBook Pro... bought one with more storage.

I followed some instructions by which I held cmdR until a box appeared allowing me to erase the HD.

The same box then allowed me to restore the operating system using the wifi.

Everything goes well until she insisted I have give to the Mac, a user name and password! I am selling! Maybe the new owner does not want Kermit and frog!

So I called Mac and used 1234 as password and it starts perfectly. I have also tried to change the password to 0000 and back to 1234 and it works fine but how (after 3 hours of installation) get the Mac to the point where the NEW OWNER will register the name and password, just as we have all done our first day?

TIA

Sorry, I meant, this follow-up

unload of all personal important files, press and hold down OPTION key at startup, go in disk utility, select MacIntosh HD, erase format MAC OS x extended journled...... then connect via ethernet if you can for fastest download,... then it will give you an option to install OSX... continue, takes 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your speed of www and if your connected by ethernet or wifi (slower).   All that clears your HD and brings it to fresh out of the box state.

but as I said, he was asked to enter the new name/password

  • Sale of a Macbook Pro

    Hi all,

I sold my Macbook Pro and I forgot to logout iCloud, App Store, iMessage and FaceTime before I erase all the drives. Because I was able to locate the Macbook Pro I ask the person I sold it and I erase "find my iPhone". After that, I'm not able to see the location of the Macbook Pro, because it was the right thing to do. I delete also delete the Macbook Pro from my devices using my Apple ID iCloud

The question is: because I have not disconnected from iMessages, there is every chance that the person I sold my Macbook Pro to receive my messages? They have not, the password or my identifier Apple, but Apple recommends disconnecting iMessages before selling!

    Thank you very much.

  • MacBook pro late 2011 glitches after logic board replacement

    Hi all!

I end 2011 macbook pro in April 2015, I got free logic board replacement because of glitches of gpu (http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/) but now I'm having the same problem again. my macbook showing pink lines on startup apple logo and does not start.

Can I replace my logic board again (it will be 2nd time) this program?

Depending on which country you are (United States I guess) you should actually be covered under various consumer protection regulations and must now insist on a replacement machine. This defect is a manufacturing defect and that you already had a repair that did not set you have the legal right to a replacement. That said I should advise that Apple do not tend to stick to their legal obligations in this case (I know I have a macbook 13-inch pro who had questions on the first day and despite extensive repairs Apple still refuse to replace - although clearly indicated their own conditions of sale & the law here) He should have).  On another front repairs performed on any product should work properly for a "reasonable" period Again the definition depends on what country you are but in Europe, which is usually recognized only 6 years old at best. Good luck!

  • WD My Passport drive external drive will not mount once my Macbook Pro is already on

    Hello

I actually had this problem for a year or two, but I'm finally getting bugged to this topic enough to see if it can be 'fixed '.

I have a 2 to WD My Passport portable HD connected to my macbook pro via an external (wall outlet) powered TRUST 5 x USB3 Hub.  If everything is connected, when I start the macbook pro there is no problem and the WD My Passport is mounted in the finder.  But if I remove manually the hard drive and then try to mount it again while the macbook pro is running it doesn't mount not.  It used to, but he won't now.

In the past the WD My passport would need to unplug and perhaps the USB3 hub would need power cable disconnect from him and the USB hubs out the macbook pro.  So when I joined this new and plugged the hard drive WD in the hub, it would rise very well.  But now it's just point blank refuses to ride until I restart the macbook pro.  Once I restart it it climbs perfectly and stays up forever--until it is dismantled manually - and then I have to restart the macbook pro again so he could mount once more.

I tried all combinations of pull cables and adapters to power but nothing has worked.  After dismantling the WD hd and plug back on the USB3 light led on the hub hub lights up and the hard drive turns manually, but, as I say, it is not mount and it is not visible in disk utility.

Any ideas please?  It's a bit annoying to have to keep restarting the mac whenever I had to unplug the hard drive WD.

"As issued" WD Passport appear to cause a number of reports of trouble around here. You have already taken the first "not best" - using a powered hub. Just make sure that the hub is really power (lights on, for example). It could be that the external drive is in its death throws.

This happen if the WD is the only thing on the powered hub?

The Mac USB ports work with other devices?

Here's what my experience with these things has believing me. WD made great bare discs, but I can't be so kind to their pens. Three questions:

    (1) I think that they should use chipsets which are not very easy to Mac.

    (2) most driving the ship formatted for Windows

    (3) even those shipped as "Mac editions have some odd which makes it difficult to access file formatting.

If you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer, you can reformat the drive and that often fixes "fail to mount/recognize" question. Disk utility is your tool of choice here because it is already installed on your Mac. Completely erase the WD drive by selecting the tab 'Clear' in the bar tabs to disk utility. Define the plan of Partition to GUID Partition map and journaled for Mac extended format. Press the button 'clear '. The reader will now will be rid of eccentric WD partitioning and formatting schemes and be a good Mac hard drive.

If you share the road with a Windows computer, consider getting a better workout. After having fought external drives 'brand' on my computers and others that I maintain, I now use only boxes of other computer world with naked WD drives inside. Since this change, I have zero problems. For my MacBook Pro, I use this forum:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/item/OWC/MEPMU3ES/

I ordered the external power optionally for use at home and go on the road bus-powered. It's an empty envelope - just a hard drive of nu. They are more expensive than the stuff that Staples puts on sale every weekend, but are much more reliable. I ask the question. "What is my value data?"

  • Need help with Macbook

Hello, I recently bought a Macbook from a friend and since I got the Mac it's very very slow at doing things like browsing the internet using Safari, it takes forever to load, web pages and all sorts of things that I'd like to get help with this problem maybe a few recommendations and also on how to speed up... If you need to care about Macbook, I can give these thx.

To sell or transfer ownership of a Mac, even to a member of your family, you must follow these instructions. So far, you will have continuous problems.

Refer to what to do before you sell or give away your Mac

    1. If you have enabled FileVault, disable it in system preferences > Security and privacy.
    2. "Remove" your iTunes account. Ditto for Audible if you have one.
    3. System Preferences > iCloud > deselect 'Back to My Mac' and 'find my Mac '.
    4. Disconnect from iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.

Next: delete all of your personal information by erasing the internal storage of the Mac completely.

    1. If your Mac comes with a grey system installation DVD, start up your Mac with this disc in the optical drive, all holding the key c to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which must be erased before selling.
      • Apple stopped Macs shipment requiring these discs in August 2011.
    2. If your Mac does not comes with disks, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
      • using three fingers press on and hold the following keys: (command), optionand R.
      • With a fourth finger, press the power button to turn on the Mac.
      • Keep the other three fingers here where they are until you see the icon "spinning globe.
      • This method force the Mac to download BONES initially installed from Apple servers, that won't require not an Apple ID install.
    3. Remove any password Open Firmware, if you created a: select utility password firmware in the Utilities menu and remove.
    4. Select disk utility from the utilities menu.
    5. Delete all partitions that can be created.
    6. Select the icon for the hard drive to the Mac, and then select the tab "delete".
    7. Click on the 'Security Options' button and erase the drive.
      • More "robustly" you erase the disc, the longer it will.
      • The fastest method is sufficient, since all but the techniques more expensive and equipment will be able to recover data deleted safely.
    8. When he finishes, quit disk utility.
    9. In the utility menu, select Install Mac OS X .
      • An identifier Apple won't be necessary. If a prompt for an Apple ID, return to step 5.
      • Do not create user accounts.
    10. When he finishes, shut down the computer.
    11. If you want to install the bundled apps that have been included with your Mac, restart using your DVD Applications if it was included and install the bundled apps.
      • Apps, delivered with the new Macs sold without disks cannot be transferred. His new owner must buy them from the Mac App Store with its own Apple ID.

If the Mac is sold to someone outside the family, consider the following additional information:

    1. System provided with your Mac installation DVD must stay with him forever and be included in the sale.
    2. Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, documents printed, same box if you have.
      • AppleCare remains with the equipment and can be transferred.
    3. Run an invoice indicating the serial number of the Mac.
    4. Once is no longer in your possession, remove the Mac of your devices in my support profile.
  • MacBook Pro does not charge

I feel that this question is asked a million times, but I'd like to walk you guys through my situation.

Retina Macbook Pro 2013 (out of warranty of course) in excellent condition. Fully updated software.

A year ago, I had a problem with intermittent loading. Of course, I went online and followed the instructions on resetting the SMC. Sometimes it would work, other times not. Sometimes the software updates would trigger the loader to activate when the system is restarted. I would like to try various outlets around the House with none of them work. Is my next laptop Apple certified tech and is it charged out of their fine magsafe charger. I thought, cool, I'll buy a new charger. I understand House and it does not load. This process is repeated for a year. I could get the new charger or one laptop comes with to work. After a time I kind of nailed what I could warm up the bricks of charger with the warmth of the body and get them to come. Kind of weird but it worked... sometimes. If fast-forward a couple of weeks. I could not the computer to load at all. I took a day and I have tried everything in the book:

    • Resetting the SMC
    • Try the different points of sale
    • Warming of the charger
    • Update the system software
    • Leaving the charger unplugged for hours and try again (it of in case of dirty power coming out walls and locks the charger?)

So I took it to my local tech again and it started to load automatically off not only their Chargers, but both of my friends... He performs a reset SMC, talking about me on the House of tension circuits and sends me on my way, pretty confusing. I get it home and charge the battery to 100%, but two weeks later here I am again with a Macbook Pro which does not load... This time I even tried to load out of a UPS System.

I consider myself very savvy computer, especially with the Mac. I have a decent background in electrical systems of the classes I took in high school and college. I read the manuals, I do my homework, I take excellent care of my devices. But honestly, *...

Any ideas would be appreciated. I'll take in addition to anyway. My local tech makes an appointment and I can't get an appointment of bar genius until next week. I have a laptop dead at this time.

    I do my homework,

Certainly, you made and excluded from all the obvious concerns besides a few non-obvious. The only remaining uncertainty, I can suggest is your domestic food, since your Mac seems to load very well everywhere else. Power of the Mac adapter intelligently will close if it detects bad quality. Other than to call it 'noise' Apple is characteristically silent when it comes to debate just what are the parameters it uses to accomplish this.

Most inverters do much through food. An alternative is to use a 'real online' or 'double conversion online' UPS, which are more expensive because they are still deriving their battery power, thus isolating their input and output power. Another esoteric alternative that I don't necessarily recommend is to use a ferroresonnant transformer. They are inherently inefficient, but concretely achieve isolation even.

  • Backlight-low on the MacBook Air

I recently replaced a UK keyboard layout on my 2013 A1466 Macbook 13 "via an authorized Apple service center. The 'real' replacement keyboard (w/back light) comes from the seller on Ebay with the history of the sale of these popular historically. Replacement keyboard works very well, but feels much diminished in terms of backlight.

As I brought in the part, for Service refuses to address the issue. Is this really a software problem and can I try?

Advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Try resetting the SMC, if you have not already.

Reset the SMC. Choose the method for "If the battery is good behaviour."

  • Upgrade of the fans on MacBook Pro 2014 retina

Hi, can the fans inside the Macbook Pro upgrade 2014? I game on my mac and also to use some applications requiring a power of good treatment. These are the heat of my laptop a lot and therefore uncomfortable to lay my hands on. I wanted to improve the cooling on my mac.

There is no way to upgrade the fans.  If you were to replace the fans it would be exactly the same unit.

If you run games or applications processor it will warm up.

Different machines have different processors, different graphics cards, all soldered to logic board - not upgradable - point-of-sale only.  This can make a difference in how hot they are.

Some machines a discreet and Integrated GPU, some only a single graphics card.

In addition to third-party fan contol the only applications user would be to try to reset the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 to see if there is a difference.

  • Register for a macbook pro already registered

I bought a macbook pro 2011 end long to a guy I've ever met. The thing is, this guy recorded his macbook pro, because he bought it new, so now, I need to save this macbook pro to my account, but I don't see how. Is that even possible?

BTW, there is no chance to communicate more with this guy.

The MBP should have been prepared for sale according to this Apple before you bought:

What to do before you sell or give away your Mac - Apple Support

If it you don't probably log off iCloud to connect below you cannot have Apple ID.

Therefore, you will need to back up your files, clean the disc and reinstall the system under your own Apple ID.

  • Virus/Spyware/MacBook Adware

I have a Macbook Pro. I had my brother borrow computer and when I got back, I have several different things that make me believe that he has caught a virus. When I go on some websites, open a new tab and either be a flash or downloader mac download download or redirect me to several other sites.

Also, if other popups for sale on ebay, amazon, or walmart appear.

Finally it doesn't let me go to specific sites and block download.com, google.com and much more. It usually still allows me to facebook or gmail.

I am very good with computers, but don't know how to remove the Macs. What are the best options. I really don't want to reinstall.

    Thanks for the tips!

Rest assured that there is no Mac viruses in the wild. What you may be experiencing is just adware/malware, which can not do damage, unless you meet their ties or recall their phone numbers.

Quit the Apple Safari > force quit menu. Relaunch Safari since the Dock icon while holding the SHIFT key.

  • SSD in MacBook Pro mid-2010

    Hi all

I have a MacBook Pro mid-2010 13 "and I am eager to improve with an SSD. Last week, I bought an OCZ Trion 100 (240GB) as it was on sale... After trying to install OS X (fraught with problems - tried repeatedly in different ways) I finally got OS X installed! It turns out that it would not boot from it, after some research it turns out that that particular drive is not compatible with macs with the NVidia chipset... So now I'll try to return that and get another one, only now I realize that I don't want no problem next time around, so...

I've been watching the Hynix SL301 250 GB SSD and wondering if anyone knows of the problems with this SSD in my MacBook Pro era? It is SATA III, who will not support my Mac, but must simply limited to 3.0Gbps, although I've seen a few threads where old macs (mine was built around the era) back to SATA I speeds as opposed to the SATA II, where they must, I was wondering if I'll meet this problem? I know I can buy it and see, but I would avoid that if I can, I hope someone will be able to comment and lend me a helping hand please?

    Thanks in advance!

Based on reputation and my personal experience, I recommend OWC SSD or Crucial.  This does not mean that other will be not compatible.

Understand that your willing MBP of connectivity SATA2, but today most SSDS are retro-compatible.  I have a Crucial SSD in my MBP 2010 and it is slower than what he is capable, but never the less, there is a significant improvement.

When you install the SSD drive, I recommend that you first install the SSD in an external case, plug on the MBP via USB, format in Mac OS extended (journaled) disk utility and then clone disk HARD internal to the SSD.  Then test it by starting the MBP with the OPTION key down and selecting the SSD.  If it starts, then make the physical Exchange.

If the SSD does not start the MBP when you installed internally, the SATA cable need to be replaced.  This happens often.

    Ciao.

  • Information retrieval of dead macbook pro drive without purchase mac with the same amount of disc

I'm completely lost right now and honestly had a really bad time in the Mac store. I love Macs, the staff is usually great, but I ended up leaving enough frustrated after a few experiences of confusion with the sales guy myself.

So, I entered the mac store with a 2011 13 inch Macbook Pro which has got water damage. It turns out that it was $750 to fix and I decided that I would just get a new one. It was the hardest or disc information you can have, and I've had about 263 on 500 or something used. I want photos and documents to browse and choose what is important.

Then they assured me that they could extract the information and make a transfer with my computer, but I have to buy a laptop with the same amount of data - so that the Macbook Air for $1,500 instead of $1000 Macbook Air, I was going to learn how to do the transfer. They kept saying it's a case all or nothing-, they cannot choose the data from the hard drive, nor can they give it to me in a way that does not require a complete transfer of the computer and so a computer with a drive for.

Is it possible that I can do this by a third party? Or download the information from the hard drive on something other than a full computer...?  I honestly don't need, want or have the capability of the computer with the disc like means. I just need a computer for school and would like to stick with the Mac, and the hard drive more small $1000, that's what I can afford right now.

Thank you and sorry if it came out confused, I'm just really frustrated, I lost all my information to my own stupid mistake and cannot repair.

    p. s.

Nothing is saved on iCloud and I don't have Time Machine.

Remove the drive from the computer and install it in an external USB enclosure.
