Sandbox

Guys all standard safety measures on the iMac, for example; integrated security as Xprotect, Gate Keeper, firewall, browser security measures for example: Sandboxing, I'm sure that people like me would be interested to learn how it works?

  • Is it possible to have a common accessible file location for the main application in the sandbox and its extension app plugin

I'm trying to launch an app on the app store for mac. The bundle of the main application and everything inside it is on sandbox.

The main application Bundle identifier is com.xxx.core.app . The identifier for the internal Plugin Finder Extension application Bundle is com.xxx.core.app.extensions .

Now the problem is the extension inner finder is also available in sand and trying to read a file written by the main application.

The main application writes the file location depending on mac OS X, for example temp/var/folder/jv11743453495593/T/com.xxx.core.app

But the internal Plugins try to read/var/folder/jv11743453495593/T/com.xxx.core.app/extensions

Because of the different bundle identifiers, they have different containers.

Can someone let me know how to limit the same application and its plugins to the same folder location. Does perform a work around for this problem.

    Hello yuktikapahwa,

See the Sandbox Apple Guide under the ApplicationDirectory group container

You must create a group that your container can access. I'm not 100% certain that this will work with extensions of Finder, but it seems the most logical place to start.

  • Geolocation API works with sandboxed iframes or provide an error

The navigator.geolocation.watchPosition function call does not work with sandboxed iframes where allow-same-origin is not specified (so the iframe counts as a unique and anonymous origin). I assumed that in so doing the iframe in sandbox inherits is not permission to use the geolocation API to the site that contains is a smart decision. Personally, I wish I had a way to create sandboxed iframes that can also use the geolocation API, but I don't understand if that is not implemented. However, a sandbox or an iframe also does not receive an authorization error when using the geolocation API that is completely wrong and makes it really difficult to debug.

Perhaps, the https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675533 bug is related somehow?

I think that it is beyond the scope of support. You can file a new bug and see how it goes: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

  • 27 Firefox does not work under sandboxie 4.08

After the update to version 26 27 version, Firefox opens not under Sandboxie 4.08. My XP Task Manager indicates that Firefox is running as a process, but not as a running application. I tried everything and then some, and nothing seems to fix this. I don't really like running UN-sandbox. I've also posted this problem on the Sandboxie forum, and other people are having the same problem. I think the problem is with the last update for Firefox and not of Sandboxie since all previous versions of Firefox have worked perfectly under Sandboxie.

I really appreciate all the comments on this issue. What I finally did to solve the problem, is to return to an earlier version of Firefox, version 25.0.1. Update version 26 removed a feature that I liked and, of course, the problem of sandboxing with version 27. I read in a previous post that someone was successful with the version 27 by downloading the full version of Firefox 27 sandboxed and install on their existing installation of Firefox rather than return help > about Firefox > check updates which is what I did. Still overall, the road I took should not have any problem with Sandboxie since he has never done before. Of course I've always updated outside the sandbox. I closed Firefox completely by clicking file > exit; Open UN - sandbox; updated; then re-open Firefox with the "Web Browser sandbox" desktop icon. In any case, I now have the version of Firefox that I like better, and it is fully protected under Sandboxie. Thanks again, everyone!

  • What save really a sandbox application?

I'm trying to understand sandboxing OS X works.  In OS X Support Essentials 10.10 I read this:

The contents of the data folder mimics especially home folder of the user, but with an essential distinction: it contains only the elements that the application is allowed to access. In the data folder you will find only the function-specific elements, or elements of the application the user has explicitly opened in the application.

Created and managed by the application in the sandbox are original parts only in the data of the container folder.

Elements from other applications or opening of the user action are represented as symbolic links that point to the original outside the container element.

I did some tests: I created a file with Textedit (menu file > open > new) to see if it is presented in the sandbox for editing text, it didn't.

    What exactly does sandboxing?

  • Why Firefox 14 will not open a link in an e-mail to open Firefox browser, sandbox?

I was using Firefox 13 and also of Sandboxie. I kept a sandbox Firefox browser open all the time. If I clicked on a link in an email, the link is opened in the browser Firefox open, sandbox. I've updated for Firefox 14. I could no longer click on a link in an email and open the web page in the Firefox browser sandboxed to sand. Instead, she ignored the browser sandboxed and opens a normal browser. It defeats the purpose of the simple safety measure that I used. Is it possible to make a link clicked in an open e-mail message in a browser Firefox 14 sandbox, rather that ignore him and open the link in a normal Firefox browser, non-sandbox? In the meantime, I uninstalled Firefox 14 and reinstalled Firefox 13 and I can once again open a link in an email directly in a browser of Firefox open, sandbox, v. 13.

  • RoboForm does not not in Firefox in sandbox

Lately, I find that the right click menu of Roboform lack "fill them forms" and "save forms" options Firefox running in the sandbox Sandboxie program. Funny thing is, Roboform works fine in the browser IE sandbox. Also, Roboform works normally in a unsandboxed FF browser.
I have contacted Roboform support and Sandboxie, which until now could not provide an answer. I am posting this in the hope that someone else has had this problem and has a solution. Thank you!

I'm not familiar with how Sandboxie works with Firefox, but it seems that Roboform data files are outside the folder of Firefox settings (profile). Is it possible that you need to make an exception in Sandboxie to allow the add-on to Roboform to access its data files, or possibly the module itself?

Edit: for what it's worth, I noticed that the add-on 'Print the pages as PDF' is also absent from your context menu.

  • Sandboxie and Brewer of personas

None of you are having problems try to make Personas Shuffler work with Sandboxie?

I found a way to record changes in the acknowledgments of themes/personas at 10 (sandboxie.com) comments here completely sick leave link to the post

http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=11957 I suggest using the later configuration option that Guest 10 posted.

Now, you can allow the full Firefox profile folder but leaves you vulnerable to viral extensions that would be saved outside the sandbox, can say some Web site tries to install a (a viral extension) against your will normally you course by using the default settings in Sandboxie but if you allow the browser profile folder all the answer is no your setting of your car for an infection and defeat the purpose of Sandboxie.

  • If the Mac App Store apps are not supposed to be sandbox?

    Hello!

I just bought a MacBook Pro and started to download applications on the Mac App Store. But one of them, "Caffeine", is listed as no sandbox in the activity monitor. Is it supposed to be like this?

New submissions to the store must be in sandbox. Older apps submitted before that this requirement was in place are exempt.

  • Since upgrading to FireFox 6, I can't start Firefox in Avast Sandbox - get the error "this application has failed to start because xul.dll not found." Firefox works well outside Avast Sandbox.

The error box has the right
Firefox.exe - Unable to locate component.
He suggests reinstalling might fix the problem, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox a number of times and no change.

problem is Firefox works outside the sandbox avast, but inside the sandbox, xul.dll file is not found

It is solved with these steps... some may be unnecessary
    (1) uninstalled Firefox
    (2) downloaded the latest version of FF (6.02) and installed
    (3) open the Avast user interface > extra Protection (in Avast v6) > Sandbox > Expert settings (button) > Web browsers > (in maintenance) "remove content" (button)
    (4) disconnected from Windows
    (5) connected and Firefox started in the sandbox

It might be that the first 2 steps are not needed... but that's what I did and the problem was solved. As you can see in the screenshot, Firefox is virtualized successfully
