SanDisk Extreme USB key cannot be removed on Win8

Hi, I use a SanDisk Extreme 64 GB USB 3.0 drive and whenever I plugged my laptop (thinkpad t430 with Windows 8.1 Pro X 64), and tried to remove it after use, the BONE guard saying that the device cannot be removed, and there is no other programs is going there. But there is none, so how to solve this problem. I tried the USB on Windows7 Pro X 64 drive without a problem.

see you soon

Hello!

Please make a backup of the contents of the USB flash memory, then:

1 - Turn off the PC.
2 - Remove the USB key.
3 - restart the PC.
4 - Download CCleaner (free, Piriform.com, here x 64 portable version).
5 - the CCleaner (cleaning and registry) pass to the PC.
6 enjoy.

Sincerely, Alfred.  (Google Traduce).

  • SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drive and SMART failure

I just got 3 64 GB SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drives and all three show SMART failures to reassign bad sectors. I struggle to believe that all three could be bad on first use. I use a program on a Mac (SoftRAID(4)) to certify all drives prior to use, including the SD cards and USB keys. I've never seen a failure so far.

Readers see the successful certification but present a SMART failure.

What is a disk problem or a SMART question or what?

    Thank you

    Lief

I agree that it is unlikely to have failed on the first use. Most likely, it is a problem with the SMART attributes. IIRC sandisk can't CHIP for this product so it formats without error, and data can be copied onto the discs with success, I wouldn't worry too much on this subject.

  • SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 unusable as Windows support install all other key 3.0 USB works

    Hello

I've explained the problem that is described in detail in the following thread, please read full for understand what is the problem.

    http://www.wincert.NET/forum/topic/11021-SanDisk-Extreme-30-32GB-cant-go-on-at-install-destination/

    In short:

The problem is in the stage of Windows where you select the partition to install it's unpossible click Next:

An error message appears that says: cannot find any partition or create an install for... but the hard drive is visible and its also possible to create and delete partitions, so the error message is bull * beep *.

My thougth is that sandisk stick is detected as disk sata hard and is internally by mistake folders as first hard disk, if I get out the stick at the stage where I select the partition, click Refresh, reconnect the key, other refreshment so I can install on the hard disk.

What is the problem with your extreme poles? Any other key usb 3.0 works well.

To pull the stick and so on is just a workaround dirty, I bougth the stick because of the speed!

        @x23piracy,

I have searched high and low for more more information ob this odd behavior. But all i can find is either not reliable or solutions such as the one tried. No real reason as to why or what is the problem.

I suspect it has something do to with the way the partition tables are setup on the source media (in this case a san disk usb drive.) I would start there.

Windows setup will run a refresh on the USB bus at the point that you are having problems with.

One way to get around it, is to pull the USB disk out, then put it back in, and go back one step of Windows setup, and try again. This works in most cases with this error.

The questions remains. Why is this happening with this particular brand/size of USB stick while it is not happening with others, and how to prevent this behavior?

It's a good question. I also own the same drive, and have the same issue with it.

I have a feeling that the controller in the stick is slow at initializing, and is simply not fast enough for Windows Setup. If you watch the USB stick when Windows is setting up, you can see that it's being initialized, (just before setup asks what drive you want to install Windows on) as my mouse and keyboard also disconnect and reconnect at the same time.

Even though you weren't talking about that, I don't know why it wouldn't work. I've reformatted them before, Fat32 and NTFS.

OK, I went looking for references. Yes you can do it, but it seems it is not as easy to do as I thought, at least for everyone. Some folks say the standard built-in Windows 7 tools do it automatically, some say they don't. I still haven't tried it, since I don't have a USB stick available to partition at the moment. Some references say that that you need to flip the USB removable bit so that Windows will see the stick as a fixed drive before you can partition it. I also found two different tutorials or how to partition a USB stick here and here. So, yes, one way or another it can be done.

        Cheers and Regards

Yeah, I have looked in to this a while ago. And found that you cannot partition this USB stick. It needs to be seen by the system as a fixed drive, but for whatever reason, Sandisk are not interested in helping their customers out with this, as it is a simple change to the drives firmware, like you described. There is a rumour going round that Sandisk are going to realease an updated firmware that will make this drive compatible with Windows To Go, and turn it into a fixed disk. I think that's unlikely, but you never know!

Have a look here, it seems Sandisk support simply does not care.

  • SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash drive does not work in Win7 / 64 x

Well, it seems that after more than a week of messing around with this for, and finally give up and seek help, I could solve a few hours after doing so. After a lot of searching on Google, one of the things I had seen repeatedly was that the drive letters change can solve the problem. When I first had the problem, I did, and it did not fix the problem. However, somewhere between initially and after patching doing so in my original post, as well as several other elements are not, looks like my original problem has been resolved, and that the drive letters change was actually the origin of the residual problem with the same symptoms. The USB key now works in my USB 2.0 ports original or USB 3.0 adapter card TL; DR: changing the drive letter for the drive solved the problem, but only after a myriad of other changes. Thanks for the comments.

    Hello

Follow these methods and check if that helps.

    Method 1.

Plug these devices one by one and run the hardware and peripheral troubleshooting tool. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if that helps.

To open the convenience store follow the given link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

    Method 2.

You can update the USB driver through Windows Update either via the Device Manager and check if that helps.

Update a hardware driver that is not working properly: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work properly

  • Problems with Vista after disconnecting external USB key without using 'remove hardware safely '.

A week ago, I unplugged my external Seagate USB drive without using a 'Remove hardware safely' first of my Vista pc.  Since reconnecting the drive, I had a series of problems.  The drive itself seems to be ok.   I am able to read and write to files on the disk.  I'm not able to do is the following:

    (1) open disk management.  It hangs on "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service".

    (2) stopping or starting without windows to snap or take an extra long time to stop or start.

    (3) failed to start Google Picasa3 or Adoble Photoshop Elements 7.  They both hang him.  I am able to use other programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Miro, Norton Antivirus.

Points 1 and 2 above work fine if the drive is not connected.  I plugged the drive into another computer (Windows 7) and ran Seagate disk checking utility.  He came clean back (no bad sectors) so that the drive is NOT corrupted.  (Check of the Seagate utility disk hung on my pc Vista.)   It seems that something related to the disk under Vista service is corrupted.

I also see "driver has detected an error in the controller on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2." event message for different devices.  I also tried a restore to a point just before that the problem occurred.

I don't want to reinstall Vista therefore looking for a solution.  Thank you.

The first time I used this USB flash drive, I transferred my library iTunes from my old computer to my new laptop and it worked, but now when I plug the flash drive, nothing comes up on my laptop.  The flash drive will appear on the taskbar under 'remove hardware safely', but it is not recognized under the heading "devices with removable storage".  I tried the flash drive on other computers to see if it's just my laptop but nothing appears on the other computers either.  What should I do?

  • SanDisk extreme 64 GB usb 3.0 flash drive problem

Hi, my sandisk extreme USB drive is recognized as a hard disk, which appears in the section hard drives instead of the section of removable storage. I wonder how to solve this problem. Although it does not use normal with this drive, but it's just strange.

    PS. I am using windows 7 ultimate x 64

SanDIsk was fixed drives and non-removable for awhile when he tried to support Windows 8 MS Go features.  There is no fix or the possibility to design autour.

  • USB keys - problem with the Recovery Manager

I bought a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler 112 USB key so I could copy the recovery as a backup image. He acknowledged the USB key and showed that the recovery image has been slightly more than 11 GB. But when he started to format the USB key, it returns to the previous screen and asking more of the car. At the bottom of the screen, he said to contact the HP Support, but it gives me an error message. Now when I try the Recovery Manager it does not recognize the USB at all.

Before that, I had bought another 16 GB USB - don't remember what brand. I have 5 other USB drives, but they are all small, except a 32 GB Kingston DT101 G2 which does not work on this computer, even if it worked on my old computer (Pavilion w/Vista Home Premium) without problem. All these USBs, including the new Kingston are for USB 2.0.

Operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit on the desktop HP Pavilion 500 - A60. I tried the problem that USB keys in all 4 ports (2.0 and 3.0). Also in that I plug into a port to give me 3 USB ports, also used on my previous computer.

Is it possible that this computer does not recognize Kingston or some other brands of USB thumb drives?

The trick to this is to use a USB 2.0 port and use a non-windows 8 certified thumbdrive. If the USB flash drive shows as a 'removable device' there should be no problem in the use of the media to create a recovery media

I had a lot of success with a 16 GB Transcend USB 3.0 flash drive.

I own a couple of DataTraveler flash drives and had the same lack of success, creation of recovery media that you did. I have had zero success with 3.0 of Sandisk Extreme usb flash drives

  • extreme usb 3.0 differ in how to connect

  • USB key which does not except if formatted - cannot open any files without formatting (essentially removing) the first

When you insert a USB key that I've used with my laptop, I wonder to format. However, I do not remember what are the files on the disk and therefore not hesitate to format it without checking what's out there first. I can't open the drive at all unless I format it, so is there a way to bypass the formatting or another way, I can see what are the files on the disk? I also tried to open the drive on other PC and the same thing happens. Help?

Hi the Turkey - hey it's your name!

If ya... Here's the thing... When you are prompted to format a drive and he can't read the files on the disk that are caused because the OS is unable to understand the content of the disc. This indicates that the disc is damaged and unreadable. It can also happen on a new disc that has not been shaped. So in summary, the files may be already missing...

When was the last time that this player was available? What format they were initially?

It is not really a way to get around this if the drive is in an unrecognized disc format, but format the drive in general. Hope this helps,

  • SanDisk extreme pro 128 GB cannot create the NTFS partition

    Hello
I have a sandisk extreme pro 128 GB usb and I try to format it to NTFS in windows and it is impossible.
The only way I success for formatting on my MAC but the NTFS partition is not visible in Windows...
Use NTFS or HFS partition without problems, but on Windows the button does not work on my MAC and can...
Does anyone have a solution for me?

PS: I try windows XP, 7 or 8.1 nothing works...
Windows see 2 partitions on my key, but cannot format.

I just fix myself... about here was a good idea LoL

So my problem was when I format the key the first time I use my MAC, and by default the MAC use GUID partition to format the key and on Windows, we should use MBR partition.

Then when I format the USB on my MAC using disk utility, on the score of "variants" tab change when to create an NTFS partition MBR (instead of default GUID) partition

After this, format the key and that's it!

Its working fine now, I'm happy with this beautiful, design USB by Sandisk ;-)

  • Option to "Remove" USB key by right clicking in the 'Computer' window it is no longer available.

Using Vista, there is an option to "Remove" a USB key in the drop-down list it with a right-click in the 'Computer' window that lists all of your drives. He was usually right under "Eject" if I remember correctly. Why is it is gone?

Please note that I am aware, you can also use the option 'Remove the device safely' in the task bar, but this application relates to the command drop-down list as the taskbar icon is a bit heavy and I preferred the speed and convenience to make it quickly through the window of the computer.

Which is probably causing this problem?

I see that you have changed your question of 'My Computer' to 'Computer', etc., after my reply to you.

If your original question was 'Computer', etc., my answer would be more than the only option.

Computer errors may occur from time to time, to which we have no precise answer.
