  I need it for my study and using home. Computer runs VERY slowly. Now I have a version of Windows XP Pro SP3 64 bits. The programs that I have only Ms Office, Skype, Nero, antivirus - BitDefender. I play all the games. IM from the application for my study only - using Ms Word.

  My computer has been verified in the service center and no defects of any sore - not any software and hardware, virus damage, no all manufacture faults. The owners of these model please give me advice what to do. I stuck!

  What should I install Windows XP 32 bit or install Windows 2000 or upgrade hardware (memory... whatever)? I won't be disappointed by TOSHIBA!

  I have to say that Windows XP 64-bit wasn t popular and there is no official support for Toshiba for this OS. If you use Windows XP, I recommend to install the 32-bit version.

  Did you test your laptop with the factory settings? It works properly with a preinstalled OS from Toshiba?

  I m also owner of the Satellite L300 and I use the preinstalled Windows XP 32 bit of Toshiba. I m very satisfied with this laptop, it s fast enough and need very little energy. :)

  In may, I bought a Saturday C50D-A-134.

  From the very beginning. The internet speed is very slow - Wifi or cable.

  That's what I did:

  Installed the latest drivers (LAN and Wifi)
  Installed latest Bios Update

  Contact internet provider: everything is checked - no problem of provider. (my other laptop on the same network speed gets speeds up to 10 times faster. So it really isn't a provider problem.

  There is no adware installed - it is not a problem of viruses (checked with several programs avast - malwarebytes etc.)

  I think you which is your laptop quite slow. Preinstalled operating system must be configured correctly.

We spread an infection by the virus and adware. I've had problems like this with all my last pc and it has always been the hard drive dying, or near death and it smells the same (saving). So yesterday, the laptop become very noisey which I suspected that the hard drive was probably to jam! However, xp blue screen referred to as core and memory dump. Could the CPU and memory also die? Maybe a fan is declining?

  I got a processor celeron with video shared in the past and they were not fast in the best of cases.

  I've had my A40-151 more than two years now, and up to last month, I got no problems at all. However, last month, it began to be very slow and took hours to initialize. I'm worried that I would lose all the data that I didn't back up, and so I bought an external drive to transfer data.

  As I was doing this, my laptop started making grinding noises, and it took up to 12 hours to transfer a single file. I got to the place, I bought it, and they said it had crashed and that it was not something they could do other than get it back - and so I lost all my data.

  When I came back, it was OK for a few hours and then started grinding again! And I think it might be something to do with the CD/DVD drive. I uninstalled the drive, and the squeaking seems to have stopped as long as the "drawer" player is open! Help, please!

  How can I get the drive replaced? My laptop is no longer under warranty. No I lost everything this that data for nothing?

  No, the squeaking is probably from the reader of CD/DVD being dry, while optical rides on squeak track passing. But the long loading is certainly a hard drive problem. Looks like a head crash. The head is more or less what locates and reads/writes data from the HARD drive. When this plant it is unable to read/write/or locate the data on the surface taking more and more to save the data, transfer data and load the operating system.   Different are many different booklets a series and it will be interesting to know than the one you have. For example I have Satellite A100 and it works fine.

  My download speed has always been slow, but I recently moved to BT infinite thinking that it the network speed was not the laptop.

  As I m wrong not the laptop Satellite C850D does support 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet network card.
  It supports ethernet 10-100 Mbps speed.

  Usually, you can change the settings in the properties of the LAN card.
  Device Manager-> LAN card-> properties-> Advanced tab

  There you will find all the options concerning the performance of LAN.

  The performance is really bad, worse than when I first purchased and installed XP a few years ago. The current installation of XP is only a few weeks and I don t run a large number of programs in the background - just basically Avira antivirus.

  The upgrade of RAM would bring you even more performance. 128 MB is not a lot of RAM and it should be updated for Windows XP.
  As far as I know the laptop supports up to 512 MB of RAM and you need to pass it to 512 MB. Then Windows XP run faster.
  You need RAM PC100 with each 256 MB module.

  To improve performance, you can do many things. For example defrag your HARD drive, clean the startup folder and the msconfig, disable all services that you need in services.msc, disable Visual effects,.
