Satellite 1800-814 memory upgrade

I have a Satellite 1800 814 with 256 MB of RAM and have been looking for an upgrade of memory for a while. I used a critical technology for an upgrade of my old Packard Bell 6500 multimedia PC, but they could not help with my Satellite laptop.

I have now found an upgrade to 512 MB at Offtek, who seems to have a good range of Toshiba of refoulement (2 x 256 MB modules). See the site:-

http://www.offtek.co.UK/

Their site States that the max memory for the 1800-814 is 512 MB.
Anyone has any experience of Offtek updates before I shell out £131,16 Please? If I can count on the accuracy of their information and the reliability of their product?

Kind regards

Hello

Looks like Offtek memory is right. And yes it's true 512 MB is the maximum that can use a Satellite 1800. But if your laptop is already 256 MB, you only need a 256 MB module.

Good bye

I have a Toshiba satellite 1800-814, which has a dvd - rom SD-C2502 reader. This disc runs out of CD playback more every day. The question is: can I replace it for a clone dvd or dvd/rw cheap or should I stay with toshiba parts?

And a second question. This laptop comes with a disc HITACHI DK23CA-20. What would be the largest size of HARD drive, that I couldn't go?

    Hello

If you can get it on eBay the same drive, it will work with your laptop. Alternative check the user manual. You will find a list of compatible spare disks and don t forget that not all drives are compatible with all laptops. But the drives listed in the user manual are compatible.

AFAIK for notebooks with IDE interface there is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use hard drives 120 GB.
But in the worst case, you can use a 40/60 GB model.

  • Satellite 1800-814: where can I order several keyboard?

I made the mistake to vacuuming my keyboard Satellite 1800-814, a year or two ago.

Surprised myself how it was easy to suck the letter "T" immediately!

Found again after having dustily through the residue of "cyclone" Dyson and he re-joint - after a fashion - got to the keyboard using two small flat white inserts plastic clip - on, but I suspect it's a bit that I have not found that the bottom of the letter rises unimpeded.

Y at - it somewhere, you can get only the letters (pieces of) or I have to buy a new keyboard? If the entire keyboard, it would come from a partner Service or what?

    Kind regards

  • Satellite 1800-814 stops the heat: how to clean the laptop?

    Hello
My Satellite 1800 814 seems to stop after using it for 20 minutes, it shuts down immediately, when it restarts, it stops in a minute. I need to leave it for an hour before using again.
The fan seems to be working: because of the noise, the air coming from the side of the laptop.
I was thinking about 3 things:
-Disassemble the laptop to clean it with air, dust may block air to reach the CPU.
-increase the speed of the fan is - it possible?
-change the fan (if broken), where this part?
    Any idea?

    Hello

I think you need to just clean the unit. I have gift? t know exactly, but I assume that this unit is about 3 or 4 years and if the unit is not cleaned in the past, I assume you will find a lot of dust inside.

If I remember correctly the cooling grill is on the left side. Many users use vacuuming, but I'm not exalted the spirit of this method. In my opinion, the unit must be dismantled and cleaned properly. I have gift? t know if you should do it alone. As you know that laptops are very sensitive units and just small mistake can be due to lack of material.

    Please be careful about this.

  • Satellite 1800-814 failure?

Got a laptop Satellite 1800-814. More often than otherwise, the machine does not start at startup. Took unit apart and put in fan site slowed down when you press the power button, but nothing else. No HARD disk activity. Only the lights on the front of the unit are AC, stack of amd.

Thought of h m/c is probably terminal but don't remember how long I got it to see if it is still under warranty or not (it's around 18-24 months).

On the VERY odd occasion he fired upward (we are talking about a person on 10 attempts and usually when left unplugged overnight) then it goes off well, but crashes after around an hour or two.

If somebody has got all the suggestions will be happy to know.

    Hello

European warranty is two years, but if you have disassembled your laptop, I'm afraid there is no guarantee more. Have you used this opportunity to remove any dust inside your laptop? I think that can be very useful. Notebook work softens and much better.

Can you see the Toshiba logo at the beginning, or come within the parameters of the BIOS? At the end there may be a hardware problem. What laptop again is there some strange noice by the HARD disk activity?

  • Satellite 1800-814: screen sometimes become black (recovered by pressing the cover)

    Hello
In recent months, my Satellite 1800-814 screen suddenly goes black. Works with Windows XP SP2.
Screen can be reactivated by pressing the cover (just above the power of the button on / off) a few times (not too long otherwise it will sleep of course).
However, it makes me nervous about the quality of the portable computer, everyone has experienced this before, know how to solve this problem permanently?

  • Satellite 1800-814 does not start after the installation of the software

    Hello
If I pass on my old Satellite S1800-814, it seems to start correctly: it shows the symbol of "Toshiba", then "Windows XP loading", then the screen goes completely blank, followed by a black screen showing the cursor that I am able to move. The hard drive continues to hum as usual for a few seconds, but then begins to repeat a series of clicking noises, somewhat like a disk that is stuck. The boot process is not still engaged.

Here's the context: I installed my (old) version of Avid Xpress Pro editing software on my Satellite 1800-814. I managed to install a newer version, even if it does not function effectively, where my attempt to install an older version more closely adapted to the processing speed and the size of the RAM 1800-814. I got the usual warning at the end of the installation program of Avid saying that Windows can be affected if I let the installation ends in letting the computer on. But I pressed the option "continue anyway" (as I've done it before without negative effects). The computer off, but he came in as described above. Please tell me what I broke. Can I ever solve this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

Try to start your computer in safe MODE and try to remove preinstalled software. Please report the results.

  • Satellite 1800-100 microprocessor upgrade

    Hi!, thanks for this forum.

Okay, I bougth a satellite 1800-100 four years ago in a shop, here in Spain. I improve my memory with a module of kingston pc100 144 pin with 256 MB. I mounted this module because this motherboard FSB is 100 Mhz.
Now, my laptop has 384 MB of RAM.

But, I would like to increase the speed of my 1800-100

I opened the laptop to investigate the resources inside. I mounted and dismounted several times, CPU Intel celeron 800 Mhz processor. But I Don t know if it is possible to have more information on the characteristics of motherboard'internals. I would like to know which is the microphone the quicker one can get in my book. ¿Celeron 900, 1000, 1100 or more? Where can I get a pentium III 800, 900, 1000, 1100 or more? I didn t see indications or jumpers in the motherboard on the tensions, or speeds and I Don t now if this motherboard determines automatically the voltage and speed when the microphone is mounted. I have 1 or 2 microphones of fastest in the House, and I want to ride in my laptop
without the risk of burning the microphones or the motherboard. Is posible to find information on our satellite motherboard. I Don t know who is the superior of technology of microphones that are supported in my 100-1800.
It is the only way to increase the speed, because the chipset is not really good, and cheap nor quick. I think that when someone buys a computer, desktop computer or a laptop, it can receive all the documentation about the inner workings of a computer, so isn´t?

I m sorry for my questions severals, but I m very intetesred with this problem...

    Thank you all...

    Hi, Rob

Information about the technical details on his books will be no manufacturer of space available.

A laptop is high designed compact Machine, which is not
be for the upgrade of this element by anyone.

OK, hard drive and memory are no problem as long as you can catch this part by opening a ceiling with screws.

So finally, you won't find the technical details of the motherboard is this Forum here, the only chance I have is to talk directly to a technician of Toshiba.

Maybe he'll tell you a bit about you looking for ;)

    Good bye

  • Satellite 1800-314 memory problem

    Hey everybody.

I just bought an old Satellite 1800-314 (Cel 1.1 GHZ, 256 RAM, 16 MB graphics card) from my college and I tried
the parameters of this model using the AIDA 32 program.
To my surprise to read RAM showed only 148 Mbps - slower than the Pentium MMX 166 test and the writing of RAM showed only 51 MB/s-more slowly then K6 266.
Any applications, such as games (too old) works very slowly.

What can be a reason for this?
    And what is DMI problem?

    Thanks for help

    Hello

There is the original memory built in Notepad?
Seems to be something with the RAM or the motherboard is wrong!

But it is very difficult to find a solution!

In my opinion, you should backup your data and do a restore. After the recovery of finishing procedure install a few different benchmarks and test if the RAM is now faster, isn't.

  • Satellite 1800-400 ME upgrade to XP Pro?

All successful one satisfactory to a Satellite 1800 400 upgrade or similar (384 MB of RAM, 20 GB HD, 800 MHz Celeron) of Win ME?

Would prefer to upgrade to XP Pro, but pure install 2nd choice.

If I have the HD format for a clean install, an updated XP version would recognize the recovery CD Toshiba a legitimate copy of the ME - I've heard that there may be problems?

I have the intention to upgrade the BIOS and collect all the drivers available for this model proposed by Toshiba for XP, but will there still be problems with all the material?

Toshiba drivers must be loaded in a special order, and that is during or after installing XP?

XP is likely to be faster or more slow/about the same thing as ME, with above hardware specifications?

All advice welcome, because I have not upgraded the OS on a laptop before, and the potential problems seem more important than with desktop computers.

    Geoff

    Hello

I put t not see why Windows XP Home edition should not be working on your device correctly. On this forum I have read many topics where users present on Windows XP Home edition on the old models as yours.

Please see the download page for Toshiba under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp and you will find drivers for Windows XP Home edition.

After installing WXP install display and sound driver first. Then install other drivers of material. The next step is installation of Toshiba stuff:
    Common modules
    Controls
    Energy-saving
    Public services.

It is important to install common modules like the first.

  • Satellite Pro 4300 - memory upgrade problem

    Hello

I know that the issue has been already discussed several times, but it seems that none of the solutions or suggestions posted earlier apply to my situation.
I recently bought an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300. The laptop has a slot filled memory of 64 MB module of the system's total memory was 128 MB.
Because in my opinion, the system has worked to slow down, I decided to buy an additional memory module. I bought 128 MB - module TOSHIBA PA3005U k and placed in the slot B

I was very surprised when I found that, after the upgrade, Windows showed that the total memory is 192 MB.
When I put the 128 MB in the slot module is and the old module of 64 MB in the slot B - the surprise was even bigger, given that windows showed only 128 MB.

I first thought that the slot B is defective, but in this case, it would be impossible to get in the first place the 192 MB. Then I thought that the new module of memory was either defective or it was 64 MB instead of 128 MB, but this option is also likely, according to my observations. Furthermore, I checked with EVEREST software system and it recognizes the new module as 128 MB module, but does not see the old 64 MB module.

The situation is quite strange. Does anyone has an idea whay happens?

    Kind regards

    Sebastian

To my knowledge, the 4300 Satellite Pro can be upgraded to 320 MB max.
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5769&ft=m&St=3

64 MB module which was fitted with your laptop should not be removable.
So in this slot ONLY this 64 MB module could work properly.

I know it's strange but the computer world is sometimes strange ;) you know :D

  • Satellite S1800-204: memory upgrade

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba Satellite S1800-204 memory which I just try to improve, two sticks of Kingston, 64 MB PC100 144pin SODIMM (like the one provided with the laptop) to two sticks of Crucial 256 MB PC100 144pin SODIMM. The laptop will post more, and even if the power light is on it will not start. The screen remains black. The manual of user leads me to believe that it is capable of supporting up to 512 MB and I can not find all the features that say the new memory should not be working.

Can someone help to solve my problem or tell me where I have gone wrong? I hope we have not bombed just from all this money for nothing.

    Spanky

    Hello

Yes. I also think that you should check if your modules are compatible.
I found in the official document that this device supports these modules:

    PC100 256 MB (PA3069U - 1 M 25)
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)

As far as I know that you can upgrade this laptop up. 512 MB memory SDRAM (2x256MB).

  • Satellite 1800-814 does not start if the power adapter is plugged

    Hello
I have a problem with my 3 year old, 1800-814.
It all started with the sudden Windows crashes. He ran sometimes smooth, sometimes he just hung up. So I decided to reinstall the laptop. My problem is when it is plugged by pressing the power on button does not start the laptop. Just the green light is on nothing else happens. Sometimes it starts after a wait of 3 or 5 seconds. On battery it starts every time. What can I do? A defect material or just dust somewhere?

    Thank you

    Hello

It could also be something wrong with the electronic power supply on the motherboard.
It s is not possible for the user to fix it. In such cases, the best way is to contact Toshiba service in your country.

(the original HARD drive is MK2018GAP. Capacity 20 GB 4200 RPM ATA4)
I read on the net that is perhaps the BIOS accept more than 60 GB or HDD companies other than Toshiba. Is this true?

In my country, the best ratio price/GB is a 80 or 120 GB 5400 RPM also label of Toshiba.

I also believe that you can use the 60 GB HARD drive for this oldie.

Please don't be crazy about me, but how you want to install the operating system if you don't want to buy the CD of facilities? If someone give you something for free or what. You can try to order the original recovery media, but in my opinion, it is not in stock, or you can buy the CD of original Microsoft facilities. If you check eBay you can find a used one and have it for little money.
