Satellite A210-10Y increase procedure RAM & warranty

Hi all

I have a satellite A210-10Y with 2 GB of RAM. But now I want to increase the memory to 4 GB.
(which is possible to do so).

My question is; When I open the back of my laptop to install the RAM card, this will end my right to the warranty? Ending date of my warranty has not jet been passed and is still due for a few months, and I'm having some problems with the hard drive so I want to make use of the warranty, some days.

I was also wondering if there are differences in quality between the manufacturers of these cards and what would be the best option for me to choose. I already found a site that looks great to me:

www.Kingston.com

In addition, I understand that my current RAM consists of two cards of 1024 MB each. Is does that mean I have to buy two full nine cards each containing 2 GB?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

Hello!

Yes, it is possible to increase the RAM to 4 GB.
It is the maximum size that the chipset is not supported.
Of course, you can buy RAM Kingston. It is a good RAM and many users bought these modules if you are looking for a little bit in the forum. The part No. for 2GB on accessories for Toshiba is: PA3513U-1M2G

And you will not lose the warranty. It easy to change or update the RAM to use s.

An upgrade to 4 GB, you have two 2 GB modules.

Good bye

    Hello

First of al I have a toshiba Satellite A210-10y, but I have a question for the display driver.
I have a problem with a program of 3D CAD and a suggestion to solve the problem, is to update the display driver.

But I can ' find a new driver on the driver support. It seems that Toshiba leave support after 3 months after the introduction.
Because that's when the most recent driver is out. Is this true or do I go to the wrong place.

    Hello

The laptop seems to support the Mobility Radeon® X 2400 graphics chip.
Have you tried the driver released by ATI?

Toshiba usually provides own pilots on the European driver Toshiba page. But if this version is too old for you, then you should check the driver from makers of graphics chips. Of course there is no guarantee if such driver would be fine, so you will need to test this you know good luck

  • Re: Satellite A210-10Y - disk SMART failure

    Hello

I am the proud owner of a Satellite A210-10Y. (160 GB HDD).

This morning I get an error message during boot: SMART drive predicted failure. Back up all data and press F1.

After some research here, I downloaded the tool form hdtune.com.

This returned value the result that everything was OK, but for the "reallocated sector count".
    The values are:
    49/worst 49/threshold 50/data-925/situation has FAILED.

However, when I use the analysis of the error by HDTUNE, all fields appear in green as "ok".

What is the problem with my hard drive? It's going pretty slow all of a sudden...

Can I do to solve this problem?
Do you know if its possible to return the drive to Toshiba and get a new one? I have this computer for 13 months.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hey Buddy

I m the Satellite U400 owner and suddenly a SMART HARD disk error message appeared on my screen too and the laptop could not start and could not find the HARD drive.
I closed the laptop computer and rebooted again finally the HARD drive has been detected correctly and the error message disappeared.

I discovered that this error can appear if the laptop has been moved or shaken before turning on.
This may affect the functionality of the HARD drive and the S.M.A.R.T (self-monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) reports a HARD drive error.

However, this error may appear if a real HARD disk failure has been detected
In such cases, it s necessary and desirable to back up data from the HARD drive because it can happen that you HDD might die in the near future

However, if the HARD drive was dying and laptop computer s guarantee would be always available you can contact ASP in your country for replacement.
You should also know that these issues are not uncommon and that sooner or later each HARD drive would die because of constraints of HARD drive.

Very rarely (once a week) on the screen colors become suddenly against natural.
The problem even if it means opening / closing of coverage.

    Really the material damage?
    The problem is rarely enough.

    Hello

I m an owner of a portable Satellite A210-10Y but I didn t notice a similar problem; running under Windows XP OS or using the Vista.

I don t want to publish stories great but perhaps that the problem of color could be linked to the issue of the material.
Maybe part of laptop as displays, FL-ups or graphics card would be malfunctions

In my view, a check of laptop would be useful and I recommend you contact the ASP.
If your warranty is the replacement of any piece of material must be covered by warranty.

PS; Updating the graphics driver, what would you say? Did you use the latest graphic drivers Toshiba?

According to the specifications of the laptop , your machine can be upgraded up to 4 GB of RAM.
Initially, it has 2 x 1 GB inside.

I recommend you buy 100% compatible memory modules and Kingston is one of the best options for you. Compatible 2 GB of RAM for your Satellite KTT667D2 part number a / 2G.

This old machine was designed for Vista, but it works perfectly with Windows 7. He is not taken in charge for Win8/Win8.1 so, in my opinion, there is no sense to install it.

    Hello

I currently have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A210 - 17 X - PSAFGE-03600LFR, after the upgrade level of RAM and HARD drive, I would need help to update my DVD-RAM. The original CARPET * a (Panasonic) DVD - RAM UJ-870 doesn't work anymore, because the laser cell seems to be damaged, it will not recognize any disk if the CD-ROM or DVD and firmaware update provided by the assistance of Toshiba Europe has not changed anything.

Because I need to replace, I would rather install a newer, more efficient, quieter model, but I'm having trouble to find this replacement.

First, the front "façade" of the current unit is smaller on the right side than on the left most pattern that I find have a rectangular "sham" - that is both sides have the same size, so it does not fit into the laptop. Is that the "bezel" so that I could take the old Chase and put it on the new?

Someone would be able to provide me with assistance to choose the correct replacement drive?

    Thanks in advance

  • Satellite L30 - 10Y black at startup the screen upward after the installation of new modules of RAM

    Hello

I use the L30 - 10Y model with the following memory specification:

    standard: 512 MB
    maximum scalability: 2 048 MB
    technology: DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)
    expansion module sizes: 256, 512, 1 024 MB

I use Windows Vista Home Basic Edition with a 32-bit operating system.

When installing, I removed the standard 512 MB module and added 2 modules of 1 GB compatible. At startup, it stays on a black screen.

However, if I removed 1 1 GB modules and put the old 512 MB module to give me 1.5 GB, it works.

I was wondering if anyone knows why this is and if there is anything that I can try to get the maximum of 2 gb, if it is indeed possible.

    Thanks in advance.

According to the product page Toshiba Satellite L30 - 10Y is able to manage 2 GB of RAM (2 x 1 GB)
I think that the problem is related to memory modules not fully compatible
I think a new, fully compatible RAM modules should resolve this problem.

PS: You updated the BIOS? If this is not the case, check if a new update of the BIOS is available on the European driver Toshiba page.

    Hello

I have a Satellite L30 - 10Y ^ months ago I walking the RAM 1.5 GB by adding a card of 1 GB of RAM in the 512 MB card provided it worked well.
I also have walking my son Hi-Grade lapto with exactly the same specifications of RAM that worked well also. So I decided to grade until my L30 10Y with another card of the same specification to bring it up to 2 GB as specified by TOSHIBA.

I booted the computer to find Hay presto after the message following the start screen appears * "_the file is possibly corrupted.
The file header checksum does not match the calculated checksum_ "* the computer then froze and I turned it off."

Controls, I did tried two cards into the two slots without change, 1 card in both slots (an empty) works very well. Other card in the two sons of slots (works Fine) the two card slots in my computer (works very well) all three cards and 512 MB card in the configuration of the slots and cards (works fine). The three cards 1 GB in all configerations cards and slots to the error message and other times 1 long beep and 2 short.
Yes, the cards have been installed correctly. Impossible to change something to do with the BIOS, even though it may be accssed. Cannot run dvd player although I can select.

I went back to 1.5 GB and reinstalled all OS the drive recovery Toshiba try all over again the same results. Running windows Vista Edition family Basic, Bios is the last download. RAM is compatible. Cheep Hi-Grade son accepts that all RAM in all Configurations without sentence windows XP operating system.

Can anyone think of anything either, I have not tried, or I just have to go and by a Hi-grade computer?

    Hello

I read your announcement carefully, and it seems that you have checked that everything what is possible
So in my opinion the two ram modules are not compatible set
It's the only plausible explanation for this problem.

    AFAIK the L30 - 10Y needs DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules.

Finally the short beeps are coming from the BIOS and it means that the error has been detected.

    Hello

I have a question about the installation of different OS Vista provided with Toshiba Satellite A210-128.

I Mat * a DVD - RAM UJ-850 drive and it will not read the CD bootable XP.
I found a few posts in other forums that this drive won't allow me to install XP.

So here's my question: someone at - he tried to install Windows 7 (RC TE) with this drive? Or maybe someone has been successful with the installation of Windows XP?

Thanks to all those who would like to help :-)

    Hi mate

I think you're a little confused, but I want to help you.
First of all it s any CD/DVD drive is installed in your laptop.
The installation of Windows XP and Win 7 should work with all readers who are able to read the CD or DVD.

I guess that you were not able to install Win XP because the CD/DVD drive was not able to manage this particular drive.
A friend of mine had the same problem with the other player. After a long period of use of the window of disc was not readable.
But he could solve this problem. It has burned (copied) the Win XP disk on another CD and then used the second drive to install Win XP.
The reader to read the other disk correctly.

Win XP and Win 7 are released on different disk but in most cases the readers should not have any problems with this disc
But if so, then it s mostly a problem of CD/DVD disc

    See you soon

  • Problem chart satellite A210-14 - 2 vertical and symmetric lines

    Hello

I bought a Satellite A210-14 s ATI HD2600 1 last week, which, from the point of view of performance, convinces me really.
Unfortunately, during this time, it happened twice, that * suddenly * got grainy and colours with increased contrast, including 2 symmetric and vertical lines of the same width (about 3cm).

Would be important to know in a period of time, due to the money back guarantee option, I have in Germany (14 days)
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

It is not easy to give accurate diagnosis but if possible, try to test it with external display. If the problem persists it is probably caused by a faulty graphics card. You can also use a supplied recovery media and install OS again to see if something is changed.

Anyway, your Satellite of new notebook with valid warranty. I recommend you contact the nearest Toshiba authorized service partner and leave check your laptop.

By the way: when you start your laptop have you noticed something strange when the Toshiba start screen happens?

  • Satellite A350D-10Y - failure of the external graphics card?

    Hello guys,.

I have a toshiba Satellite A350D-10Y and I get some sounds of the sound system of the laptop, but a kind of Mermaid on the mother, accompanied by lights driver dvd, map emitte acoustics is two short beeps. I'm getting these two short beeps loops within a period of 5 seconds +-.

I downloaded a video for you, to listen to the sound emitted by the MB, in the end you can hear better because you get less noise from the cpu fan:

Feature of the motherboard: ATI external graphics card

    Things I've done:
-Remove the battery and try to put on without it.
-Switch of RAM on the slot a RAM
-Clean cpu fan one its exhaust
-Change is the motherboard on a new

Now, the problem was taken up to, or is the processor or the external graphics card.

I think that the problem of the graphics card, because if these was a problem of the processor, I'd get the audio system of the laptop beeps and not a buzzer next to the MB.

    Can anyone here help me?

From my point of few it of not possible to say what s wrong with the laptop without running certain diagnostic tests and check the part.

The often shorter and emits a beep when turning procedure appears due to the POST (power on self-test) failure.

This essential POST routine determines the available memory real quantity and checks for the presence of required hardware components.
In case one of the hardware components would be defective, the power on self test could not be transmitted correctly and the laptop would begin to create some beeps.

If you are sure that the modules of memory so that the card mother isn't affected, then one of the pieces referred to as CPU / GPU can be the troublemaker.

  • Satellite A60 - memory increased

My Satellite A60 has 256 MB of memory and is vey slow these days. I removed several applications, but he healed partially the problem. I also defragment the hard drive. Could I need more memory?

Counsel would be appreciated - how get it and install it?

    Hi Charles,

Increasing your RAM will be an improvement, but only with applications that are particularly intensive memory. It is heavy graphics using games and utilities such as photo manipulation, video editing etc.

It is much more likely that your system is hampered by the excessive task that runs after your first commissioning. Check in your task for the background process manager how you running and how much resources they actually are using. For a typical installation of XP, I would expect that there is between 45-50 running processes.

Unless you have already done so I would recommend running a spyware (ADAWARE SE and SPYBOT S & D) utility that can be freely downloaded from the Internet, to see what presents itself.

I see that you have already defragmented your drive hard, which is great, but I highly recommend running the disk cleanup utility as well to get rid of all unnecessary clutter.

With regard to the RAM, I believe that the maximum that you can expand to 1280 Mb is, and I would recommend that you use Toshiba or RAM Kingston modules like these are tested to work with your laptop. I also used the modules of ORCA in my own laptop wuite successfully. Really, the choice is yours.

Information on the replacement of the RAM modules are usually contained in the manual of your users and should also provide details of the procedure to follow.

  • Satellite A210 display problems

    Hi all

I like my Toshiba A210-10Y, but there seems to be some problems with it.

Portable computer does not always start immediately; Sometimes, I have to press the 'close' button because the Black Guard screen and the blue satellite does not burn (but you can hear it make a sound and light Burns 'on').
    * Close the screen for a while, is a no-go for my laptop. I already changed the "loading windows after closing" settings (sorry, my laptop is Dutch so I don't know what said that.. English for the Dutch people here 'windows hervatten'.) But even that does not always work so I have to press the close button and restart my laptop (how boring when you're in school). What I really want is to close the screen and open it again and go right, back to work... like everyone :(
Blue screen has become a common friend. Sometimes when you're at work... type a little bit, you know. The computer is fr blue screen reboots without reason! It goes right down!
    * I often blocks on the screen... not dead pixels, but the Brown block on the top of the screen... sometimes they disappear, sometimes not.
    * Lately, I have to restart my computer over and over again, because after he loaded it sometimes stuck... "crash" again (not blue screen of death, but a white layer)

I still have the original warranty and I bought an extended warranty. I can fix it on myself with some drivers or re-install windows (vista) or do I give the nice people of the store I bought a call?

    Thank you.

Hmm it of really difficult to say what's wrong with your laptop.
Sounds a bit like your screen to wake up from stand-by or hibernation mode.

But on the other hand is more sounds like a graphics card problem.
    I mean especially this statement:
    > Blue screen has become a common friend. Sometimes when you're at work... Type a little bit, you know. The computer is fr blue screen reboots without reason! It goes right down! I often blocks on the screen not dead pixels, but the Brown block on the top of the screen... Sometimes they disappear, sometimes not.

It sounds really not good if you ve hangs on the screen!

In your case, it would be really desirable to contact the ASP in your country.
The fact is that your laptop warranty is valid, and if something would be wrong with parts, it should be fixed for free
I think that the ASP is not a bad idea.

    Good bye
