Satellite A500-13W - fan changes speed

Hello

my laptop has always changes the speed of the fan from 70% to 90%.

I recently installed the latest version of the Bios but does not solve the problem. As I write this text Toshiba PC Health Monitor indicates that the CPU temperature is 40% and the fan speed is between 80% and 90%. I put my laptop to the power saving mode, but why the fan operates at high speed?

Is there someone who has the same problem or is this just me?

Hey,.

Did you check if battery optimized cooling method is defined in the parameters of the plan power Windows?

Can I ask you if you use the preinstalled Windows operating system from Toshiba?

Overheating can be caused by the driver display so it of important that you use the latest version of driver Toshiba screen.

    Hello

You can change some settings of Windows 7 power management.
Here, you can control the CPU processing and performance of cooling module.
Power management is the only place where you can change these options.

  • Satellite A500-134 fan problem

    Hello!

I recently bought a laptop Toshiba A500-134, and I have two problems with that.
First of all, the largest: fans will always practically. Currently, the temperature is the following (I checked with Everest):
    CPU: 37
    CPU 1 core: 36 c
    CPU core 2: 36 c
    DispIO GPU: 46C
    MemIO GPU: 44 c
    The laptop temperature: 34 c

The speed of the fans (utility Toshiba): 73% and sometimes more (and this is waaay out loud)
Is this normal? Tried another (same type) for laptop and seems he did the same things. He doesn't do anything, that the Vista desktop are running, and the fans are still ongoing.

The second problem is a high tone sound from speakers. In my view, the processor to affect it. When I change the portable powersaving mode, the sound is silent, or it disappears.

    Hey Buddy

To be honest I n t see a problem with the temperature of your fan or your laptop.
CPU and GPU temperature appears to be low and there s nothing unusual.

Cooling performance modules can be changed in Vista's power management:

  • Satellite A500: Can not change screen resolution

    I have an A500 - 15 M with a 16 "display, which is more than a year.
He worked always very happy with a resolution of 1366 * 768, which is the size of the screen (a little unusual).

No reason apparent, this morning, it starts with a screen resolution of 1280 * 800 and does not anyway to get back to its normal resolution.
The result is a screen that is not full width of the screen, but which covers the bottom.

Vista option display settings will not allow anything beyond the amount of 1280 * 800 and no fiddling with the graphics settings (Intel) will fix the problem.
OS is Vista32 but the problem is still there after a relocation in 64-bit mode.

I have this terrible feeling that I did something really stupid, but I am at a loss now - any suggestions or help would be very appreciated

    Hello

You have an Intel graphics card?
I think that first you need to update the graphics driver.
To be honest, I never had no problem changing the screen resolution, but I would like to reinstall the driver first.

I think you could try the latest driver for graphics card in the Intel page.
These drivers should be up to date so try it out and then try to change the resolution again.

Anyone know how I can test the video?
How fast it works with excel?

I use the updating of toshiba, so I hope I have the drivers actually.

    Thank you very much

    Hey,.

Do you use the same version of office on two laptops? Normally the A500 is equipped with Office 2003 and Office 2007 version of trial and that s a little more slowly or more, in my opinion. So this could be one of the reasons for this.

In addition, you play a little with the power settings. Try it with balanced and efficient fashion. It is best to watch videos and play games.

If you have a large Excel files, try to defragment the HARD drive. It is always useful.

  • Satellite A500-13W - after update BIOS the FN buttons do not work

Yesterday I updated my Bios of my laptop to 1.50. After that the FN buttons no longer works. Can someone help me? ^ ^

    Sorry for my bad English

    Hello

You have installed the correct version of the BIOS of your laptop?

Features of FN buttons are normally not depending on the version of the BIOS. So, you need Toshiba value added Package and utility tools to Support Flash Cards. Then I recommend to reinstall two of them.

    You can download it here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Remove all older versions first. Reboot then install VAP and finally Flash Cards Support utility.

  • Satellite A500: update BIOS V1.50 is fan noise problem reappears

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 with fan noise problem.
It has been partially resolved the upgrade of BIOS from v1.20 to v1.30, according to this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=0&TSTART=0

Yesterday I updated the BIOS v1.50, and the sound of the fan returned.
I do not recommend this upgrade if you have had the problem of fan noise.

I have downgrade BIOS v1.30 and fan noise problem is solved again.
I know that people have problems to get the downgrade to BIOS, so I describe the process in this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=50577&TSTART=0

Thanks mate for sharing this with us

But perhaps you could use the v1.5 BIOS and could reduce or reduce the activity of module cooling in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be interesting to check it out

In any case thank you for this info

  • Satellite A500 - fans never stops

    Hello

I did some experiments with methods of cooling of vista...

First of all, when I start my satellite A500, something like three minutes before the fan to start very quickly.
When I opened the Toshiba PC Health monitor, temperatures never exceed 40 ° C, but the fan runs at 70%
Then temperatures decline to something like 35 ° C, but the fan never cease!

It's exactly the same with the two methods of cooling of the vista power management or the difference is really subtle.

But a strange thing is when I change the method's cooling performance to economy of execution while the fan is running, then it stops! And it starts again only when the CPU start to become warmer. But again, it remains always under 40 ° C. I think that's not so hot... and the fan noise is annoying when I want to have quiet little.

So in my opinion, there is a problem.
If I could change the settings in the economy mode, I would reduce the speed of the fan and I would like to raise the temperature when the fan should start. And when the temperature decreases the fan should stop or slow down to become quieter...

Thank you for your attention and sorry for my bad English ^^

    Hello

You said that the fans run at 70%
This would mean that the cooling modules run with maximum performance, if the temperature remains at the lower level. and that means that the cooling system control module working properly.

Also you talk about the temperature of the CPU. But there are additional devices such as GPU and HDD that creates the heat dissipation.
This means that the internal temperature would be different from the temperature of the CPU... possiby is higher...
That could be one of the reasons why the cooling modules don't stop and run with lower performance.

However, you should check if your BIOS is up to date.
If the most recent version was released then it s recommended to update the BIOS.

    See you soon

  • After BIOS update Intel speed step does not not on Satellite A500

I upgraded my Satellite A500 PSAM3E model to the most recent BIOS 1.50, now the Intel speed step does not!

My CPU is always 2 GHz +, I have chagned power Plan to balanced, but no change... with precedent the CPU was about 800 MHz.
When I try to change the Windows 7 power management and set the maximum CPU at 50 or 80% performance, the system hangs.

    Hey Szaby59,

What older BIOS version were you using before update to 1.50?

I also use maximum CPU performance option for ecomode (50%), but it does not work properly.

In addition, it would be interesting to know if use you your own Windows installation or factory settings. Normally, after using the Toshiba Recovery disk you don t have install Toshiba tools more. Everything is preinstalled on your laptop.

  • Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) - noisy fan stops is never (BIOS version 1.60)

Hello from the Czech Republic, I have also problem with noisy fan on my new Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) (i430M, GT330M) on 64-bit Windows 7 over Office Standard - see http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=165&tstart=0.

Today I have updated the bios to 1.60 (from 1.20) and there has been no change. When the laptop powered to the top of the adapter in all modes the fan is running at 60-70% (sometimes at 90% - my office is perhaps quieter :-(). What laptop power battery in normal fashion fan and high performance race to 60-70% (loud sound) and in the economy mode to 80% (very noisy). It's crazy that in economic mode produce more noise than mode high performance. The CPU temperature is cca. 37-43 C, GPU 48-57. Fans of course never stops and all it's standart office. No intensive work or games. I can't imagine in games.

Can someone help me please, I'm really helpless. Or this fixes only bios 1.30 and next version not?

    Hey Buddy,

I think that it of really difficult to say why this happens, but in my opinion you should provide more details about your operating system and drivers.
Are you running the Toshiba factory settings or you have installed another OS?
Fan sometimes high activity is due to a different display driver. Have you installed the latest display driver form Toshiba (NOT nvidia)?

Old BIOS versions, you can get an authorized service provider

  • Satellite A500 - 1 2 - where to find the log of changes to the BIOS v1.50

    Hello

Where can I find changelog for the new bios version 1.50?

Anyone had problems with this bios?
Laptop mine (A500 1 2) has version 1.20 and I'm considering if it is interesting to be upgraded because that something works very well (perhaps fan may run a little slower because it works almoust always to 63%).

    Mazu

    Hello

I didn't find the change log or details about the version of the BIOS on Toshiba pilot European page, but I found some details on the Toshiba page we
    Maybe you should check it.

And Yes, I think that fans will run smoothly after the update of the BIOS to v.1.50
I read a few threads here concerning the noise A500 and fan and it seems that the update of the BIOS should help.

  • Satellite A500 - what are the changes in the BIOS 1.90

    Hello

I own a Satellite A500 PSAR3A-026002. He has BIOS version 1.50, the Toshiba site, it shows the latest version as 1.90. I would like to know what was changed from 1.50 to 1.90 but do not find the information anywhere. I was wondering if someone could tell me the changes or direct me to a site that has them.

Not planning on upgrading BIOS at this point that everything works fine, just curious what they updated, corrected or added.

    Hello

This information is not published on the European driver Toshiba page.
But you can visit the Toshiba page we.
I found some of the series Satellite A500 and details about the BIOS versions.
But right now the BIOS 1.9 is not available on the US Just the v1.8 page.

However, if your laptop works properly I wouldn't change anything.

  • Satellite A500 - 17 X - Fan has stopped working and the warning message

    As the title says.

I turned on my laptop today to hear him roar, and then it is simply stopped. I get this warning on every 20-30 seconds:
WARNING: a problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the power immediately and return it for service.

Instead of saying "then put it back in service," I can do to try to fix myself first?

    Hey Buddy,

Other similar topics I found information that the fan control has been optimized with the latest version of the BIOS. I put t know what version of BIOS you have but most recent, a satellite A500 - 17 X (PSAR3E) is 1, 90 - WIN and can be downloaded here:

  • Satellite A500-148 turns on but does not start

Hi all, I have a Satellite A500-148 from a friend who asked me to take a peek, it turns on, but does boot when I press the following power button occurs:
-The power button and the charger are on and the hdd led only flashes once
-The fan comes on for about 3 seconds
-No image on the screen, I indicated a light against it, but there is really no image

Tried to reset by pressing the button for 30 seconds without the changer is plugged.

I disassembled it and noticed that this laptop has an external video card, so my question is, who's broken the video card or the motherboard.

    Thank you

To be honest I don't understand this with an external video card. Can you describe how you mean exactly?
In any case, on this virtual path, it is not easy to offer the exact diagnosis. You can try the little test and remove this external adapter, RAM and HARD disk, and try to start again.

Ask your friend if he had something that may be responsible for this.

One last thing: laptop stays in r might have turned off after a certain time?
