Satellite A660 - fan 90% on battery optimized mode

Hi all my dear users of Toshiba that I really respect because they use such great brand Toshiba. I hope you have the time to read my problem and that its length can not bother you and you can do me favor and answer me.
I am from Egypt and I recently bought the Toshiba Satellite A660 - 17M. It is really a great device and I've updated the BIOS twice on the official website of Toshiba and now I have the 2.00 BIOS os independent.

My problem now is that the fan cooling and here's what happens with me. When I adjust method in the Toshiba cooling ensures peak performance so that the temp is between 36 to 63% and the fan speed is 52 to 75% and it takes a lot of time turns off because it is not easy to reach the beach of temp which makes it either stops when I'm inactive or work.

The largest part of the problem is that when I change the method of cooling battery optimized mode everything working the fan going to 90% and rest, so never or up to this I put the laptop before in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 minutes. Then it is cool and it stops. So in the meantime either inactive or work done, it jumps again to 90%. When I turned off my laptop and wait to be completely cooled, then turn it on while in battery optimized mode the fan starts working during start-up only stops until Windows starts completely then it climbs to 90% and remaining so ever except when I force him to be cool by placing it in front of the fridge.

My friends, I think that it is not logical to always work in conditions of refrigerator and also it is illogical to have fan always 90% especially that I'm on battery optimized mode.

What is the problem in your opinion, and if someone has the same laptop can help and describe what is happening with him also. I do not remember if these events are produced before BIOS set to day or not as I they weren't in my mind before BIOS update and I don t know whether or not this happens also before the BIOS update.

From what I understand, is that the battery optimized mode fan running weaker than the maximum performance mode. Then what's happening and if you say he remains silent until this than complete Windows starts and runs then 90% to compensate for the accumulated heat, I agree with you, but shouldn't t happen to some extend then stops at the battery life optimized according to the name of the battery optimized mode.

Really I am so disappointed and now know what the problem is. Please help and don t advise me to call Toshiba. Whatever they say please send us the laptop. I m waiting for your responses and thanks a lot for the time spent reading my message.

Hey,.

Normally if you use the battery mode optimized for the method of cooling the fan will run less maximum performance. So your laptop will work more silent, but with a higher temperature but usually you don't notice it.

So if this happened only since the update of the BIOS is you load the default settings in the BIOS after update? Go to the BIOS Setup and press F9 to load the default values. Then save & exit the BIOS Setup.

I would be also interesting to know what operating system you are using. What is the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or your own installation?

The fan should be cleaned from time to time using a jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans. This can also help improve the cooling. An accurate and interesting article on cleaning the notebook, you can find here:

    Hello

Ive recently bought toshiba satellite a660 11 m, its great, but his fans are very noisy even when im doing nothing (zero open applications)
When I open the toshiba pc health monitor he always says temp: 50 c on avrg and fans * always * on 68 to 70%. (now when im typing this fans are at 68% and only google chrome opens sometimes it looks like his office, no cell phone)
Note that laptops is 3 weeks old, so I doubt there is any dust in the cooling system.
Anyone else having this type of problem?

    Hello

What to say... My a500 is also great noise even I tried upgrading the Bios, play with power settings, cleaning of cooling system. fan control utility like speedfan and many other things but still... I just don't pay attention to the noise of the fan. You can reduce the noise loading the Cpu with some applications so that the fan continues to constantly operate at 54% with a less noticeable noise.

  • Satellite A660 - fan always to the strong

    Hi all

I bought the Satellite A660-10 days and I love it so far.
The only problem I have is the fan noise. It is always on 53% of speed even when I do not do anything.
I wonder if this is normal because I have only an i3 with intel.

    Thank you!

Please open the power plan you use and go into the advanced settings. Under open Toshiba option method of cooling energy saving, and then assign the value at a minimum. It should reduce the activity of fan and your laptop runs much quieter.

I also recommend you to use the balanced power plan.

  • Satellite A660 - fan runs fast

    Hello

Today, I bought a new laptop i7 A660-1FM. I'm pretty happy with it so far except the noise from the fan.
The minimum speed at which it works is 68%, from to 75 and sometimes 90% sometimes.

It never goes below 68% even when nothing is running (sitting on the desktop only).
Is this normal? My top in the previous round of Tosh just fan cuts in and out as needed.
This new machine is much too loud, as I use it most of the time in a quiet room.

I played with all power options, including cooling settings, but makes no difference.
Please help as I really don't want to have to talk to the PC World (the place I bought) I know they'll be totally useful United Nations.

    > Is this normal? My top in the previous round of Tosh just fan cuts in and out as needed.
It depends on the internal temperature.
Please don't compare other portable different with different material specifications.
A660 was equipped with processor with high performance and a 3D graphics chip. These devices create a lot of heat and need to be cooled.

But you can also slightly reduce the activity of fan, change its settings in the Windows 7 power management.

    Check this box:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/Ann.jspa?annID=41
It s on Vista power management, but it of very similar to Windows 7.
    There are a few options.

  • Satellite A660 - fan and temperature problem

Probably after that Bios Update to 2.3 increased fan is efficient and temperatures grew deadly
    So please help!

I can't work on my laptop and the children cannot play in games (even simpler)
regards and sorry for my English

I imagine that this behavior is the result of the update of the BIOS.
Can you please tell us what was the reason for the update of the BIOS? Sorry to ask this, but I always say that there is no reason to change anything, if there is not a serious problem.
    What to do now?

In general, you can't do much, but what you can try is to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask if there is a possibility for BIOS downgrade.
I guess that they have access to the database of Toshiba and can get the older version of BIOS for you.

  • Option of Satellite A660 - 11 m and battery

    Hi guys...

My question is that when the round battery is charged and connected and at the same time the cord of the AC adapter are connected to the DC in 19v I can disconnect the round DC power cord and depend on the battery, it is a normal action, I can do it easily... ? or I have to first stop the turn before I can use the battery.

Just unplug the tro DC power cable and continue to use laptop on battery.
You should not stop your laptop.

  • Re: Life of the battery of the Satellite A660-141

How does the satellite A660-141 has a battery 6 cells as many other toshiba models, but has a maximum of 4h15min! How is it?

More than 4 hours on Satellite A660. It's great!
I have more Satellite A300 and I can work on battery power max 2.5 hours. It's good enough for this laptop, but a little more time will be better of course.

What is your experience with Satellite A660? To be honest, I think about exchanging my machine with this new model.

  • How to turn off the cooling on Satellite U fan?

    Hello

Many people who use other laptops, they have all said that they have a BIOS setting so that they can stop or slow down the FAN of the AIR where the WIND comes out of the laptop, because it's so boring bit he Dungeon sounds all the time and it becomes so hot/worm that I can't have my laptop on my lap in order to discuss.
So where in the settings can BIOS I turn off or make the top in the Middle?

Or is there another setting somewhere else?

In my opinion this option will be very risky especially for people who don t understand how it works and have no idea on the hardware for portable computers.

For example, you use your laptop on the lap and block cooling grill down, turn off the cooling fan or set minimum/average then how portable s material should be chilled?
As a first step, I think it's the bad idea to use lap laptop computer donation spot or a bed. Air traffic will be blocked and when the laptop s material reach critical temperature result will be taken out of service or even damage the equipment. Be careful.

You can reduce the activity of fan in the advanced power settings > Toshiba Power saver > cooling method. Set the value to the battery optimized mode.
If you please, do it and let me know if your laptop runs more quiet as before.

  • Satellite A660 - cooling fan is too slow

    Hello

    I own TOSHIBA Satellite A660 - 10 X
the problem is that fan will slow (when the laptop starts its goes much faster that slowing it down). Problem is that the laptop is overheating and that it stops without any warning. I'm working on it and must be reliable.

I tried the power management but there are only "optimized batery' or 'up', but at least it won't max for sure.

Is it possible to check the speed of the fan? I tried several aplications to see fan speed but they do not work.

And I never found fan in BIOS.

You use applications that require a lot of graphics performance?
S your laptop sitting on the desk when you work with it.

Do not forget that all the vents, especially downstairs are not blocked somehow.

  • Satellite A660 - recharge the battery

I'm just after the purchase of a Toshiba Satellite A660-1FM i7-740QM. I brought it home and plugged and then lit it. It turned out perfectly, but it doesn't seem to work on the farm.

Costs associated with 0% and it is fair to say that the battery is charging. He has served for the last hour and so far nothing.

If I plug out then he dies immediately.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

Unplug the computer from the power adapter and turn it on. Let the computer battery power until the computer turns off, indicating that the battery is fully discharged.
    Remove the battery.
Using a soft cloth, wipe the battery packs connectors and AC adapters.
    Reinsert the battery.
Plug the power adapter of the computer
When the PC is turned off, allow the battery to charge until the battery status light
    Disconnect the power adapter.
    Remove the battery.
Wait 30 seconds and reinsert the battery.
    Reconnect the AC adapter.
Let the battery recharge until fully charged battery status.
Now your battery must be charged completely. You should notice more autonomy.

I posted it for a toshiba official support base.

  • Satellite A660 - battery discharge per day in shutdown/Hibernate implementation

I presented my Satellite A660 for troubleshooting, after that months of testing a battery discharged 5% / day in hibernation (4 + % / closing day). When the battery is removed from the laptop, there is no noticeable effluent. The discharge when the battery is inserted is much higher than a previous laptop I've owned, but Toshiba says it's normal.

I was wondering if I could ask people for what they found to be normal (compared to what they have found to be problematic).
    Thanks for the stories.

  • Satellite A660 - battery not charging

Hi all, I'm new. Before all sorry for my English, im from the Russia.

    Here's the problem:
I bought Satellite A660 from about a month ago and now does not work without? harging thread! This morning was OK, but there is 20 minutes, I detect this problem! When I pull the wire out of his turn off laptop!
Don't lights Windows seven has stated that its indicator of battery "98%, is not load" is also

    What is the problem?

    Hi AtlantiB,

And what happens if turn off your laptop and connect the AC/DC adapter? You see that the battery is charging?

Sometimes, if the battery is absolutely empty, it might take several hours until it s full charge and it takes a few minutes until it will be charged of specifications.

Then, turn off your laptop and connect the AC adapter. Then, wait an hour and check what is happening.

  • Satellite A660 will not start again until I turn safe mode

Just buy the toshiba Satellite A660: I tell the story to compensate closely in my answer, I hope...

I just buy new, run the Setup for first use. When its up and running only in that day, that I noticed it start to hang up when I plugged the drive external hard for some Installer (adobe lightroom).

Its still very well, but when I disable it, it does not start again until I have run in safe mode so I can save some files and rerun recovery.

This time on 64-bit. With its completion of its process, this works well for a few hours.
He fell faster now, maybe because its on 64-bit? (any recommendation if its 32 or 64 bit) specifications: i5, 4ram, 1 g ddcatd graphics, family win7 premium,...

Now when I turn it off it never early return time windows say... Startup Repair. ..
I have let it run from this morning till now they can't always find what's the problem (I'm refernce the loptop).

So no idea about whats goin?

    > He fell faster now, maybe because its on 64-bit? (any recommendation if its 32 or 64 bit) specifications: i5, 4ram, 1 g ddcatd graphics, family win7 premium,...

64-bit operating system is better if your computer supports 4 GB or more of RAM.
Why? Because 32-bit Win recognizes max 3.2 GB, even if more RAM is available.
It's limitation of 32-bit; regardless of what OS it is; Linux, Win XP, Vista, Win7, etc.
This is the reason why the 64 bit OS are so popular in the last time

    With regard to the issue of the BONE;
    I recommend that you run a disk recovery again... This means that you need to reinstall the OS usign the option recovery Toshiba;
During the turning on the laptop press F8, choose fix my computer-> drive HARD recovery
