Satellite L - Scary sound high-pitched squeal for 1-2 seconds

Once in a while (maybe once a week? but at no point periodic and predictable) I get this cry very acute squealing coming from my laptop. It is NOT a continuous sound like others have asked on this forum before. It's a VERY short burst. It looks like the sound, we usually hear when we wrote in the internet with a modem 56 k, but it only lasts for about 1 to 2 seconds.

I can't say exactly where because it is very short.

It's a very scary sound, it seems that something is REALLY wrong in there and may cause permanent damage. I am particularly concerned because I've had this laptop a month ago! And I've NEVER heard on any of my previous laptop 14 (which never were Toshiba).

What the hell is that sound, and how it is wrong with my computer. In addition, how to prevent or mitigate. Or (under ideally) do I need to get a new laptop?

Also, I think you should contact the service. Maybe this problem is known to them and I hope they have explanation why this happens.
Who knows what it can be. We can just speculate on this, but it won't help you much.

Laptop is new and probably with a valid warranty. If something doesn't work correctly technicians let check this.

To be honest I never heard something like that on my Satellite P300.

I use this sever for a few years with no problems until what I moved from Atlanta to Florida.  The unit was packed and moved very carefully and there is no incident during the trip as lock breaks, fly through the median, huge potholes.

When I have everything first power unit after the move, he has a grating of high ground which is non-stop.  This happens as soon as the power is on and before rotating readers.  Readers are what I initially thought, but not after, watching the power in sequence.  They are 6 Road, 2T SATA off a PERC 6i run RAID 5.

I checked the logs and see nothing to indicate any problem, searched the web and the Dell forums without a hint of what can happen.

No one has heard of everything related to distance?  Thoughts, suggestions, etc. Please.

UPS? There is nothing in the programming of a 2950 that would provoke a "cry". Could be a hardware/electrical fault, but if it's a constant high-pitch screeching, it sounds like the UPS.

  • High Pitch squeal

There is a high squealing sound height that comes out of the laptop. This happened after I disconnected my HDMI cable. I can't stop. If I disable the sound it will stop. It is only when the laptop is on, of course when power off of the machine, for everything to calm down.

Do you think I can uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers to retify the problem? I don't know what happened... I used the HDMI cable repeatedly.

  • Satellite A660/15J plaintive high-pitched noise

I had a Satellite A660/15 days for 3 months, running Windows 7 64 bit. The machine emits a constant noise whining acute (kinda like the sound emitted by the first CRT television sets). The source of the noise seems to be the CPU (it is certainly not the cooling fan or HARD drive). Is this a known issue? If so, how can I stop?

Since when did you notice this problem?
I can only say that the friend of me has Satellite A660 but without any strange noises. The laptop is quiet, only the fan makes noises so it s running.

For me, it sounds like a hardware malfunction, but before contacting an authorized service provider that you can try to fix it yourself by updating the BIOS. This can be found on the official website of Toshiba.

If it doesn t help I would contact the ASP. Guys you can meet if it s or not normal behavior.

  • Satellite P100-106 - sound and modem driver for WXP Pro

    Hello

I bought a P100-106 (PSPADE) a few days ago that had Windows Vista Home premium pre-installed. What I tried to do is to install win XP pro SP2 because I realized that Vista not fully cover my needs again.

While Toshiba does not support this model with the drivers, I found some models to the driver downloads page, such as PSPA3E, with the same hardware configuration. I downloaded the drivers makes it easy with my system (almost all). After completing installation instructions all worked fine except the sound drivers and modem.
I downloaded the driver for the sound is Conexant 3.11.0.51. After installing the patch kb888111 (UAA), which is included in the record of the driver, my system has recognized the PCI device unknown as "Audio device on high definition audio bus" and the modem as "Device Modem on high definition audio bus". Then I followed the installation instructions that Toshiba has provided (http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6801JF0000R01.htm), but the window that appears, there are no devices listed and no 'OK' buttons to press! Simply "CANCEL".
The same thing happens when I am installing modem drivers.
Can someone help me please? Does anyone of you have the same problem?

I would be grateful for any information or solution

    Thanks in advance

    Hi guys

You are right. For now, that Toshiba does not take in charge the new models preinstalled Vista laptops to Windows XP Home edition. I assume that it will change in the future, but of course the Vista upgrade is a priority. As you know a lot of old notebooks preinstalled WXP must be Vista supported. It makes sense to upgrade is more important than the downgrade.

Anyway, I heard that the new laptop models have a different sound chip and it can happen using soundcard for notebooks WXP drivers help much. Audio driver is also important for the modem function and because of that you also have problems with the modem function.

I know that you will solve the problem as soon as possible, but if there is no, you must wait for realize Toshiba drivers for Windows XP Home edition and put on download page.

It is very interesting that every day more and more users are not satisfied with Vista n want to use Windows XP Home edition on the newer models. To be honest I still use my Windows XP Home edition and right now I really don't want to install Vista on my lappy.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite A500 - 14 c: high pitch noise coming from speakers?

I think that sound from the speakers even when. But even if I turn the volume down completely the noise doesn't always.

Its a subtle... this kind of electronic noise that becomes really annoying if you're in a quiet room. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hello

I know that these noises, but in my case, it was created by an AC adapter.

The AC adapter cable has been damaged (broken), and therefore this noise appeared.
But it was really, really down, and I couldn't always hear it just sometimes a mostly just for a short period

In any case, I tried another AC adapter and allowed to detect the reason for that

I put t know why that sound comes from the speakers, but most often these issues are related to the material and should be checked by a technician.

  • Satellite P100-160: cooling fan comes loudly for 1-2 seconds every 30 seconds

I have Vista and I tried everything.
I set the thermal control mode in the BIOS to "Silent" (although sometimes I look in the BIOS and it is up to the performance). I have disabled Aero, changed the minimum and maximum processor speed etc..

The irregular, loud fan noise leads me into the wall! I'd rather work permamnently at volume slightly harder than that! The laptop is great, but if someone said "I'll give you a full refund" I would like a shot - only on this noisy fan irritating each ch. 30 seconds!
Can anyone help? I suspect not - I suspect Toshiba needs to work on its drivers and maybe a BIOS update. I kind of feel that I am at the edge "bleeding" here with this purchase. I have other problems too that I'll post separately.

    Hi David

I'm sure that any comment as if it was normal will be good enough for you, but there is really not much to do. You can try to play with the power settings and see if something will be better.

Two weeks ago, I did some experiments with P100 and I installed my Vista with the necessary drivers and tools only. I was positive surprised how Vista works now. If possible, remove all the stuff that you don't need. The fact is that much preinstalled stuff running in the background and force CPU to work under pressure. I really don't see another solution at the moment.

In my opinion it has nothing to do with the drivers, but perhaps with BIOS. We'll see if Toshiba will offer soon new updates to the BIOS.

  • Re: Satellite A350-20s - sound crackling with a loud high-pitched

    Hello

I have a problem with the speakers on the Toshiba Satllite A350-20s. When I turn the sound on all I get is a crackling sound with a very high-pitched. Seems to get by if I plug in external speakers but one have a similar problem if I plug in a microphone. Thin K that could be linked to the microphone on the chicony webcam works do not.

I've upgraded to windows 7, shortly after obtaining the laptop and so far have tried to download the new drivers for the web cam, but this does not seem to have helped.

Any ideas or advice more than welcome!

Have you noticed the same thing with the factory settings (installation of recovery the original image)?

  • My Satellite C850 produced high high pitched noise

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite new C850 of Argos and it s great, apart from the fact it seems to put a sharp nose for the right length at a time.
It s no feedback noise microphone / speaker. The sound is causing my ears hurt even now when I ve turned off laptop.
My ears keep humming for days after using the laptop.

Someone at - it solutions or similar probs... Bravo!

In the past I've used several laptops including Toshiba laptops but I ve never noticed anything like that so, for me, it is not easy to understand exactly what is happening.
Can you tell us what could be source of this high-pitched noise? Where did it come from?

Problem is that some options to solve this problem are very limited due to the fact that, probably, some components of material produced this noise.
I assume that your laptop is always guaranteed valid then perhaps you should contact the nearest Toshiba, service provider and ask for help. They can inspect it and fix it.

  • OS sound produce a high-pitched noise (M70-160) + keyboard cursor jumps

    Hello everyone,

I own a satellite M70-160 for about a year. There are two problems:
    (a) 15 days ago all the sounds of the o/s (for example when windows start/end, wheel etc) no longer works properly and began to produce a high-pitched noise. It's extremely annoying. I downloaded the realtek soundmax which only temporarily solves the problem. Now every time I have reinstall, when sound is shut down it works fine, but then again when I restart the computer it is working properly.
In addition this problem disappears and appears periodically and it seems that most of the o/s sound time is malfunctioning.

    (b) when I type fast in keyboard cursor jumps into other lines or bar tasks or made the selection of text etc. as there is a kind of shortcut (this problem is not related to the first as it appeared from the beginning).

I shouldn't forget to mention that I installed almost every new driver (might have missed one or two but it is highly unlikely)

    Thank you very much

    Giorgos

    Hello

    (a) I have the same unit, but so far I didn't notice something like that. If this happens regularly, it makes the not so easy diagnosis. Try to test with different volume levels and also with headphones.
    (b) key combination while typing to disable using FN + F9 touchpad. Maybe you touch touchpad with your hand while typing so fast.

The last option you can try is updated BIOS. If you want to do this please READ the document how to do this.

  • Satellite S1800-921: USB - high tone sound appears

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Satellite S1800-921 laptop.

Whenever I plug a device into one of the USB ports, this high pitch noise appears.

Then when I unplug a USB device, the noise disappears.

The noise is coming from the back of the laptop where are USB ports. The noise is very annoying because it's high ground.

I disabled the Ali PCI to device host controller USB in the Device Manager in Windows XP and which seems to stop the noise, but then I can't use all USB devices.

Someone has encountered this problem before and nobody knows a solution?

Any information would be most appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    Andrew

    Hello

The noise does not appear if the USB devices are connected.
Well, I never heard talk about this show.
I know some different USB problem, but nothing on a high sound.

However maybe a Microsoft Update will change something.

  • Satellite U405d-s2850 - noise coming from the fan high pitch

I bought my computer laptop 2nd Friday last for the school. I bought it at Costco after comparing with some other laptops.
I like it so far, it is a tone high from the fan noise. First I thought it was my ear, but it wasn't. This high pitch noise is so darn high, it makes me crazy.

This means, there is something wrong with this laptop?
Or am I just darn sensitive?
My other laptop Toshiba is very good. It's just this new laptop!
    Help!

Should I return this laptop and get a new one or is it normal?

    Hello

Are you sure that this noise is coming from the cooling module?
Usually, it is really hard to say what causes these sounds of high pitch without disassembling the whole laptop and check the single parts.

    > This means, there is something wrong with this laptop?
To be honest, I never noticed the sounds of high pitch on my three different notebooks.
So I guess there might be something wrong with the single computer laptop part.

So if you aren't really sure what causes this noise of high tone, then I recommend contacting ASP in your country for and verification of the laptop.

    Welcome mate

  • Disable the CPU C4 State to correct high pitch sound

The Core 2 Duo processors are initially high pitch noise.
To solve this problem we neede to disable the C4 function in the BIOS, BUT we do not have this OPTION!
We need a new BIOS once AGAIN, for this problem!

I think that you must speak with the nearest service.
My Satellite A500 will run without this high noise pitch and after 1.30 BIOS updated fairly quiet.

  • Satellite C660 - 23 M won't turn on and makes a high pitched noise high

    Hi I'm new here

Ive had my laptop for about 2 years and she had a lot of problems - broken screens, dust in the fan, etc.

yesterday I used it as usual when it off completely without warning.
I'm used to is happening because my laptop overheats and turns off like that on a regular basis.

However, when I turned it back on, it makes a high pitched noise that kept getting more high until the laptop turns off again.
I think the noise of the fan.

There was also a slight smell of burning plastic.
My laptop does not turn on and when I plug it in the orange power light does.

PLEASE HELP I HAVE MY ENTIRE ITUNES LIBRARY AND SCHOOL TO WORK THERE

Also last week the hing on one side of the laptop is broken.
The screen still worked and all the wires were still intact

yesterday I used it as usual when it off completely without warning.

To be honest, all the details do not sound very good...
Everything looks like some causes of serious hardware problem laptop cannot be turned on.
I can't say for sure what the problem is here, but probably the motherboard or the CPU is dead.

In any case, your data on the HARD drive should not be affected, and I guess you could get access to your entire iTunes library. You must remove the laptop HARD drive Bay HARD drive and you will have to use an external USB 2.5 "HDD caddy to connect the HARD drive from the laptop to another computer as an external USB HDD.

This will allow you to move forward and back up the data to another job good HARD drive.

  • Satellite L500 - high-pitched noise when the USB port is in use

I have a Satellite L500-1ZP, aged from 1 month. When I connect a usb key or other device in my usb port, the laptop generates a high-pitched noise.
The sound is not strong, strong but enough to irritate me.
When I disconnect a device, the sound disappears.
The sound is also there when I disconnect my laptop to the grid form.

This is a common problem and can it be resolved?

To be honest I don't think that this is a common problem. Is that what you found more threads with the same description of problem?
The same happens when you use the available USB ports?
You can locate where this noise is coming from? Maybe the speakers?
